According to reporters, their body length is the same as that of the large hull boat they ride, about 10-2. According to local guides, they are estimated to be more than 2,000 kilograms.
Morocco is a coastal Arab country in northwest Africa. It borders the vast Atlantic Ocean to the west and faces Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar to the north. There are many famous tourist cities on its coastline of more than 1,700 kilometers, such as Asilah, Casablanca, Essaouira… Our trip to Morocco is about driving along the coast all the way to visit the most romantic big cities and towns. Schematic map of Morocco self-driving tour If it were not for more than 7 days, we might only take a walk in the northwestern part of Morocco, and would never have thought of going to Essaouira in the southwest, the sister city of Changde, Hunan Province (2013 On May 20, 2010, Essaouira, Morocco and Changde, China became sister cities). Because it is 700 kilometers from the seaside town of Asilah in the northwest of Morocco to the city of Essaouira in the south, this made us hesitate before we set out whether it was worth it to go so far. But as soon as the car drove out of Asilah, I immediately dismissed the idea. After coming out, the car has been driving along the coastline highway of the Atlantic Ocean, with the vast sea on the right. I opened the window, and the warm sea breeze drifted into the car with the sound of waves hitting the rocks. This journey was originally a good experience. Driving along the coastline to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest coastal city, the car began to leave the coastal road and turn into the A7 highway, and the road became more and more desolate. At noon, the temperature outside the car reached 40 degrees Celsius. At this time, we passed a large desert and a small oasis. Three hours later, the car came from the hot and noisy city on the edge of the desert to the quiet, fresh, cool Atlantic shore. . After I came to Essaouira, I realized that, in fact, coastal themed tours are not all about surf beaches, sunny coconut groves and bikini beauties. For example, in Essaouira, you can see many stone forts. The fortress was built by Barbary pirates composed of Turkic and Moorish people more than 500 years ago to monitor British fleets who came to steal or loot sugar and spices, and these two properties have always been the courts of European nobles. An important raw material for pastries and gourmet food. Nowadays, Essaouira has no need to worry about who will steal, because the tastes of Europeans have also changed, and the way of life and work of Essaouira has also changed. Some people say that maybe Essaouira does not have the best beach in Morocco, but it has the most famous wind in Morocco, and has the reputation of “African Windy City”: the sea breeze from the Atlantic Ocean blows the small town throughout the year, making the human body feel It is comfortable and attracts many tourists and enthusiasts of surfing and windsurfing all over the world. Every morning, large ships full of sardines set anchor from the fishing port of Essaouira and head to distant places for seafood trading. The hotel we booked in Essaouira is only a 5-minute walk from the fishing port. After putting down his luggage, he walked along the stone wall built on the coast towards the fishing port. The air was filled with the smell of fish, and there were countless seagulls flying in the sky. At the end of the stone wall is the old castle, and you can overlook the entire busy fishing port when you walk up. Just like the large fish piers in the coastal areas of China, Essaouira Fishing Port also has a large-scale agricultural and aquatic product trading market. However, the air in the market is not so good. Under the heat wave in the afternoon, the air is bad and even nauseating. Every small stall is full of fresh produce and seafood. The stall owners also follow the principle of returning home immediately after they are sold out, and don’t want to wait for a minute, so whenever there are customers coming Ask for quotations, all smiles greet you, promote sales vigorously, try to empty the goods in advance. Turn back from the fishing port and walk leisurely into the old town of Medina in Essaouira. Here is a little different from Chefchaouen. In addition to the souvenir shops that can be seen everywhere, there is also a lot of artistic flavor here. Under the ancient mottled city walls, you can always see the creations of artists in the old city. People say that when immersed in the art world, the hands of the watch spin as fast as an electric fan. Unconsciously, the sky is getting darker and darker. After walking around the beach, we returned to the hotel and when we passed the central square of Essaouira, we found some people were busy setting up the stage. It is said that a large international music festival will be held here on the night after tomorrow. I suddenly thought of the vendors in the fishing port market. They might look forward to this music event very much. Everyone is rushing for life in the day-to-day fishing and soaking in the smelly fish market. A free concert should be their best spiritual comfort! The ancient Atlantic city of Essaouira, which was formed in the 16th century and built in the 18th century, was once glorious as the most important spice export port in North Africa. This place combines Arabs, African indigenous tribes, and cypresses. The “Cultural Melting Pot” of Berles and Jews is now embracing more new ideas with an open attitude, showing brand-new changes, and is also hosting us foreign tourists who are separated from the ocean in a more gentle way. Tips for Traveling by Car in Morocco: 1. If you are not very proficient in driving in China, or you have only driven in European and American countries, you should carefully consider driving in Morocco. The road conditions here are very bad. 2. The main models in Morocco are manual transmission, but there are often steep slopes in cities, so the proficiency of the slope starting technology is also relatively high. 3. Most national roads in Morocco have only two lanes, so be careful when overtaking. 4. There are a lot of traffic police checking speeding on the Moroccan national highway, and most of them are friendly to tourists. Morocco’s national highways will pass through some towns along the way, and the speed limit will be reduced from 100 or 80 kilometers per hour to 60 kilometers per hour. 5. The Moroccan police will check the driver’s license every time they block a car. It is generally not a problem to use the Chinese driver’s license plus the French translation notarization and the double certification of the domestic embassy.

Only about two dozen Karomia gigas trees survive in the Tanzanian wilderness. The flower blooming in this artificial environment is a positive signal for their survival.

According to what plant scientists at the Missouri Botanical Garden (USA), the tiny purple-white flower that has just bloomed in their greenhouse has never been seen, at least by experts like them. In early May, Justin Lee, a gardener, was inspecting a group of Karomia gigas seedlings when he discovered a strange flower. This plant is related to mint and is native to Africa and is one of the endangered plants. Strange flower varieties Giống This flower less than 3cm long has pale purple ring-shaped petals, which slope down to form an arch connected to four white petals, with outstretched pistils. Mr. Lee said: “It doesn’t look like a mint flower. It looks like it’s upside down.” The mint family, Lamiaceae, usually has funnel-shaped flowers. Caregivers think the flowers may attract bees, butterflies and moths, but they may also be self-pollinating. Over the next few weeks, they expect more Karomia gigas flowers to bloom in the greenhouse, and instead of attracting insects, they will attract human hands trying to keep the species from extinction. When more flowers bloom, plants can cross-pollinate and have an extra chance of survival. Currently, only about 20 individuals of Karomia gigas are known in the wild in Tanzania. Roy Gereau, Tanzania project leader at the Missouri Botanical Garden, said it’s not uncommon for anyone to have seen flowers grow from this tree. Karomia gigas is a tall, straight-stemmed tree that can reach a height of 25 m, the branches grow about 13-14 m above the ground, making the flowers difficult to see. Karomia gigas is quite tall and is located deep in the forest. The tree is so rare that it does not have a common name in English, Swahili (the main language of Tazania) or the dialect of the area around the reserve where the tree was found. Of the more than 60,000 known tree species on Earth, Karomia gigas is among the most threatened and endangered in Africa. “As far as we know, there is no scientific record of the flower of this plant,” said Gereau. And now, when the trees bloom, conservationists believe they can keep them from disappearing. “In terms of extinction, this is a really, really good sign. We can make sure this plant doesn’t go away,” said Andrew Wyatt, vice president of horticulture at the Missouri Botanical Garden. There is still hope Growing this tree is a challenge. In the wild, Karomia gigas is highly susceptible to a fungal infection spread by insects. In September 2018, thousands of seeds were collected in Tanzania and brought to St. Louis, but only 100 seeds can be used for germination. The nursery also had to adjust soil texture, water availability and sunlight to mimic the East African environment in which the plants grew. Gardeners are finally able to grow the plants by letting the seeds germinate on wet paper towels (reducing the risk of infection), and then planting them in the potting soil. Currently, they have about 30 seedlings from seeds and one from cuttings. Creating a growing environment for this species is very difficult. “We’re debating whether they can bloom in a caring environment,” Mr Wyatt said. When there are only a few trees of this species left in the world, trying to save them and seeing them grow successfully is very emotional. “You will cherish every stage. They are like your children. You are like the housekeeper of these plants. You not only have a scientific connection, but also a love for them” – he Wyatt shared. Mr. Lee agrees: “They are like my children.” The flower helped scientists understand more about the plant, verifying it was classified correctly, and the shape suggested it was most likely pollinated by an insect. To date, they have not been able to tell if this flower structure is common to the species, or just a genetic mutation in the still young plant. “This single flower … may not be the usual flower form of the tree. This is the first flowering tree of fortune telling” – Mr. Gereau commented. The first flower was recorded. Most importantly, this helps ensure the survival of the tree. Botanists can take cuttings to propagate, but they will share the same DNA. Having genetic diversity will help ensure that plants can withstand harmful elements such as pests. “If crops don’t bloom, we have to depend on wild plants for seeds, and their survival is very low,” Wyatt said. While some species are able to self-pollinate, it is not clear whether Karomia gigas does. Mr. Lee tried pollinating before the flowers died, but said adding flowers from other plants would help create a new generation of plants that are genetically more tolerant. “I’ve chalked the flowers. But so far the self-pollination is still a big question mark. And this time we didn’t succeed. However, we have many seedlings left, if they bloom and pollinate. Cross-pollination is better for genetic diversity.” “Having a tree in bloom is a great start in a species recovery effort,” says endangered tree expert Emily Beech. Although not involved in the tree planting process in St. Louis, in 2016, Ms. Beech and Mr. Gereau and rangers searched for this tree in Tanzania. “When we got there, we didn’t see any sprouts in the forest, but the blossoming tree shows that there is still hope for this tree in the future,” she added. One step closer to reinvention Karomia gigas was discovered in 1977 in Kenya. When the last two trees here were cut down, scientists thought the species was extinct. Then, in 1993, several trees were discovered in Tanzania. From 2011 to present, Mr. Gereau and Tanzanian botanists have found more individuals in the wild. According to Mr. Fandey Mashimba, head of the seed department of the Tanzania Forest Service, about two dozen Karomia gigas trees still exist in the wild, in two forest reserves Mitundumbea and Litipo. These two reserves have the Miombo forest ecosystem – common in Central and South Africa. This is the habitat of wild animals such as gorillas, wild boar, wild buffalo and a small antelope called Dik-dik. While individuals studied in the native environment and one growing in St. Louis, their flowers are still a mystery. “We have a person in the nearest village to the reserve, he keeps an eye on them and will notify us when he notices the plants are about to flower,” said Mr. Gereau. However, when someone drove the long way through the forest and reached the tree, no flowers were found. “They’re in a reserve protected by the government, but a lot of people go there to get wood,” Mashimba said. The wood of Karomia gigas is compared to teak – a precious wood, so they have a high value. “We have trees that are still alive. We can make sure they don’t go extinct. Successful conservation of this species is possible. They are protected in Tanzania. We have a bunch of trees in the botanical garden. When we have enough seeds, we can store them in case.” Seedlings are cared for at the Missouri Botanical Garden, USA. Gereau said he does not want to transfer the plants yet, fearing they are too fragile to make it through the trip between the two continents, but his team will actively share knowledge with the Tanzanian government and botanists at the University of California, San Francisco. University of Dar es Salaam, which is conducting research on this plant. For now, a flower is a hopeful sign of what’s to come. The staff at the botanical garden at St. Louis was surprised when it quickly fell from the tree in less than 24 hours. “It withered and fell. I picked it up and used it as fertilizer,” said Mr. Wyatt.

(Source: Reuters) Sumitomo Corp. (Japan) will provide mobile service in Ethiopia through a consortium with a telecommunications service provider Vodafone Group (United Kingdom). The move will make Sumitomo the first Japanese company to enter the African market. Ethiopia has approved a license for the consortium on mobile service providers in the country. It is expected that Sumitomo will hold about 30% of the shares in the new business and invest about 8 billion USD in 10 years, including investment capital for base stations. This will be the largest foreign direct investment on record in Ethiopia. According to the plan, service delivery will begin in 2022. Ethiopia is one of the largest countries in Africa, with 112 million inhabitants. According to statistics, when the rate of mobile phone usage is only about 40%, the new consortium has seen growth opportunities in this country. In addition to mobile services, the consortium also plans to launch services in areas such as digital currency, education, and health information technology. The announcement of the cooperation between Sumitomo and Vodafone comes amid concerns in Japan, the US and the UK about the trend of Chinese companies such as Huawei Technologies and ZTE building much of Africa’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Mosquito cake is a traditional dish of the Africans, and is the main food of the original local tribes. This strange cake is most often made in the summer, when mosquitoes multiply a lot.

(Photo: Internet) The mosquito burger, also known as the mosquito burger, as its name suggests, this burger is made from 100% mosquitoes, not mixed with any ingredients. The cakes have ingredients from 100% mosquito meat. They also have another name, Mosquito Burger, sound and like, but few people dare to try. (Photo: Internet) The method of catching mosquitoes is also very simple. People will find a large pot or a wooden board dipped in water, then spread all over the air to get the mosquitoes to stick, in just a few moments you can catch a few kilograms of mosquitoes very easily. Africans catch mosquitoes to make a 1-0-2 cake. (Photo: Internet) The next step is to dip mosquitoes into a pot of boiled water and knead like flour, make round, flat cakes like donuts, drop on greasy cooking oil, and give off a characteristic aroma. It looks like a dough to make a ramie, but it’s actually made up of thousands of mosquitoes. (Photo: Internet) In addition, Africans still have another way of processing. They will put mosquitoes in special sauce then cook them on stone slabs. It is estimated that each mosquito cake needs from 200,000 to 500,000 mosquitoes, especially this cake has a protein content 7 times higher than beef. Although mosquito cakes are good for the body, not everyone has the courage to eat an animal that specializes in sucking human blood. This dish is very nutritious, the protein is 7 times higher than beef.
Skybed Scar – mighty lion king once dominated the Kruger grassland. In April 2018, in Kruger National Park, South Africa, photographers Larry Pannell and Greg Parker took a rare set of photos of male lions that spontaneously breath their last breath outside of the wild. wild. In the last moments of his life, Skybed Scar – the mighty lion king that once dominated the Kruger grassland and photographers stood at a distance of more than one meter apart. This male lion is a famous lion king in Kruger Park and once dominated a swarm of lions for several years. In his heyday. Skybed Scar has a mighty and majestic appearance, with muscular muscles and a loud roar that can make the surrounding herbivores tremble, even other male lions want to usurp its throne. also must carefully consider the enormous power hidden in this roar. However, at the time the two photographers took these pictures, Scar was older and had to leave her lions, or be kicked out of the lions, so she could only hunt alone. Lions are the only species of herd social behavior among large cats. They hunt together and take care of the offspring in herds. This makes them more effective at hunting and may even kill large animals such as the African buffalo. A group of lions will normally consist of a male lion and a few female lions, sometimes even a group of lions running in the background. A group of lions can have up to 50 individuals and in such large groups there may also be a few more mature male lions. Throughout her life, female lions in a group of lions will be mainly responsible for hunting, while male lions are mainly responsible for territorial patrol, threatening other lions or other lions. invaders, protect the safety of lions, and sometimes help female lions with hunting. When the male lions are close to reaching adulthood (under 3 years old) they will be kicked out of the herd to roam, sometimes they will bond with a few male lions like them to hunt together. bait. Until these male lions are 6 years old (fully mature), they will bring their power to battle with other male lions to gain dominance over lions. The defeated dominant male lions will often be killed by severe wounds, but if they are not dead, the rulers of this era will be kicked out of the pack and have to roam alone, even if they do. being a target for hyenas and being able to die naturally would become a luxury. The photographer saw the Skybed Scar at a watering hole, where usually a herd of small elephants drink. When they got there, they noticed that a lion was drinking water on the shore, seemingly having a problem with its left leg because its seat angle is not very normal right now. And then they saw the lion standing up in a swaying posture like a drunk, but finally they discovered that it was an old lion and had not eaten for a long time, its body covered with skin bone. Parker is a local photographer and recognized the old lion as Skybed Scar. It left the puddle and stumbled toward a small, tall field. Every few steps it will stop, bow to rest, accumulate the remaining strength in the body to be able to take a few more steps. After walking up the high ground, Skybed Scar looked back at the puddle one last time and then slowly stepped down the slope, but only halfway through the road it fell. But just then, a herd of elephants came to the puddle to play and to satisfy its thirst, an elephant left the herd of elephants toward the high ground, seemingly wanting to stand at a higher position to see the pulse Are there any dangers around? At first, it did not detect Lion Scar at 30 meters away, and Scar deliberately avoided view to avoid the elephant from discovering her. But unfortunately, the elephant still found it, stepped back and rushed towards Scar with a roar, when the other elephants heard the sound, they started to rush towards the old lion. Scar wanted to growl at the elephants as a child to drive away these terrifying giants, but right now, she had only one option, to turn around and run with all her might. The sound of loud footsteps gradually disappeared, the dust also subsided, two photographers drove to find the old lion, finally found Scar lying on the grass under the shade of trees, dying unable to move. This last run had obviously exhausted him. Scar looked at the photographer with sad eyes, no one dared to approach the former king, but now, the photographer more than a meter away, stared at its death. The old lion breathed hard, his chest was undulating weakly, and his eyes were fading. Finally, after taking his last breath, Skar safely left this world with his eyes closed forever, and a generation of lion kings fell. You can often hear the traditional virtues of respect for the elderly and care for young children on buses, but in essence, such a statement clearly confuses many animals. Once the weak old male lion will be kicked out of the lions, only death waits for it; The new lion king will also kill the old lion king’s cubs, so that the female lion can mate with it In fact, most of the animals in the wild are unlikely to survive to old age, it is not that they do not want to die, but that their congeners do not. Think again, have you ever seen wildlife dying of old age? Most people may not see that in their life.
