Auction at Sotheby’s www source code will be auctioned

Status: 23.06.2021 12:35 p.m.

It is basically the founding document of the World Wide Web: 9550 lines of programming code. Now the original files of the inventor Tim Berners-Lee come under the hammer.

From Peter Mücke, ARD Studio New York

“This changed everything” is what Sotheby’s calls the auction quite immodestly. Which, for once, shouldn’t be an exaggeration – because who would deny that the World Wide Web has actually changed almost everything. Even if its inventor Tim Berners-Lee was probably not aware of this when he presented his proposal for a system for the exchange of information on March 12, 1989.

It started at CERN

At that time, the British computer scientist was working at the European nuclear research center CERN and had the problem that parts of the laboratories are located on Swiss territory and other parts on French territory. Because the two countries had different network infrastructures, he developed a system that was supposed to facilitate the exchange of information across borders. This original programming code comprises 9550 lines and has since dictated the basic structures of the Internet: the page description language HTML and the transfer protocol HTTP and the identifier URI. A revolution – not just for the scientific world for which the project was actually intended.

Invented the Internet code: the British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee. Image: picture alliance / dpa

Digital collector’s item

Even if the code has long been “open source” – that is, freely accessible to everyone – it is now going under the hammer: the original files, provided with a time stamp and a signature from Berners-Lee, together with a digital poster that visualizes the source code and a letter from the scientist from 1989 in which he describes his project. Everything is conveniently packed in a so-called NFT – a “non-fungible token”. This is a kind of digital certificate of authenticity that is stored on a so-called blockchain. It should prove that the virtual object is unique – even if any number of digital copies can exist. The collector’s item of the digital age, so to speak.

Digital images “Crypto Art” makes millions

A digital work of art was auctioned for a record $ 69 million.

Minimum bid $ 1000

As a computer scientist, it is only logical to auction his invention as such an NFT, says Berners-Lee. It feels right to put your signature under an all-digital artifact. The online auction lasts a week and starts with a minimum bid of $ 1000. The proceeds will go to a foundation.

After the auction houses had long blocked the auctioning of such NFTs, they have been doing this for some time good sales with digital art . Most recently, the auction of works by crypto artist Pak at Sotheby’s raised $ 17 million. At Christie’s, an NFT of a collage by digital artist Beeple changed hands for just under $ 70 million

Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos inspects the New Shepard launch facility in West Texas. A spot on his upcoming flight is up for auction. Photo: EPA This will be the first manned flight conducted by Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin. The flight is scheduled to take place on July 20, the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the Moon. Bezos and his brother Mark, a former advertising executive and volunteer firefighter, will join the flight with the winner of the ship’s airfare auction, with the lowest bid of $2.8 million. USD. In an Instagram post, billionaire Bezos said he had dreamed of traveling into space since he was 5 years old. “I will go on that journey with my brother. The best adventure, with my best friend,” declared the Amazon founder. With an estimated personal fortune of $186.2 billion, Jeff Bezos is one of several billionaire entrepreneurs driving a “new space race,” each pumping billions of dollars into private startups. Their aim is to develop low-cost, commercialized space travel. But while Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson is expected to make a suborbital flight later this year, and SpaceX’s Elon Musk has vowed to “die on Mars,” it’s Bezos who’s the one. Win the race to be the first of this hit trio of billionaires to reach the edge of space. Watch Blue Origin successfully launch and land a reusable New Shepard space rocket (Source: CNBC) Mr Musk has yet to comment on Bezos’ latest statement, while Branson congratulated his rival, saying their two companies are “opening up to space”. “Congratulations to Jeff Bezos and his brother Mark for announcing their plans to go into space. Jeff started Blue Origin in 2000, we started Virgin Galactic in 2004 and now both are opening up access to space – incredible!” Branson tweeted. personal. Musk and Bezos are said to have been head-to-head on several projects over the past decade. Elon Musk sees his tech giant as an “imitation” in some of Amazon’s business ventures, while Bezos mocks the SpaceX CEO’s plans to send people to Mars. Bezos’ company Blue Origin was founded in 2000, touting itself as a means of providing cheaper access to space through the use of reusable rockets – namely the New Shepard that flew 15 times. Jeff Bezos’ space tourism project with Blue Origin is competing with a similar program being developed by Space X, the rocket company founded and run by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and the company. Virgin Galactic is backed by Richard Branson. In April 2017, Bezos revealed that he invests about $1 billion in Amazon stock in Blue Origin every year. Blue Origin’s spaceship system consists of a pressurized crew capsule mounted on top of a reusable New Shepard booster. During the first manned flight into space, the crew aboard the New Shepard will spend at least 10 minutes hovering in zero gravity inside the capsule. Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000. The upcoming space flight is the culmination of more than two decades of forays into space for Jeff Bezos, who announced plans to step down as Amazon’s CEO just now. 15 days before flight date. Instead, he will become Executive Chairman of the company he founded in his garage in 1994 – allowing him “time and energy” to focus on other business ventures. Blue Origin named its space rocket program New Shepard after astronaut Alan Shepard, the first American to fly into space exactly 60 years ago. The upcoming flight will mark a major milestone in the mission to take paying customers beyond space. However, for now, Elon Musk’s SpaceX seems to be leading in the space billionaire race with multiple launches of NASA equipment to the ISS and a partnership to send tourists to space by 2021. On February 6, 2018, SpaceX launched a rocket to orbit Mars, more than 220 million km from Earth, and NASA selected two astronauts to join the first manned Dragon mission performed by SpaceX. . Watch the video of SpaceX’s Starship rocket being launched and successfully landed for the first time on May 5, 2021 (Source: SpaceX): SpaceX has also begun sending a series of 60 satellites into space to help form its Starlink network. Mr. Musk hopes the program will build a network of interconnected satellites around the Earth, thereby providing free Internet to everyone around the world. Meanwhile, billionaire Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic are taking a different approach to conquering space. Virgin Galactic has repeatedly performed successful test flights of the Unity spacecraft. The first time took place in December 2018 and the last time took place on February 22 this year. More than 600 wealthy clients to date, including celebrities like Brad Pitt and Katy Perry, have booked $250,000 for one of Virgin’s spacewalks. Richard Branson introduces SpaceShipTwo, a spaceship with room for six passengers and two pilots. Photo: Reuters Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo can carry six passengers and two pilots. Each passenger has a seat with two large windows – one on the side and one above. Passengers will become “astronauts” when they reach the Karman line, the boundary of Earth’s atmosphere. The spacecraft will then make a sub-orbital journey with about six minutes of weightlessness. The whole flight took about 1.5 hours.

Fukang meteorite is the name of a rock discovered in China. Belonging to an iron-rock meteorite (Pallasite), it is recognized by fragments of olivine crystals embedded in an iron-nickel substrate.

The Fukang meteorite is auctioned off. Where this extraterrestrial object originated and how was formed is still a topic of discussion among scientists. Coming from an asteroid The Fukang meteorite glows in the sunlight. The Fukang meteorite was discovered near the town of Fukang in Xinjiang, an autonomous region in northwest China, in 2000 by an unidentified hiker. Every day, this person often stops by a giant rock to have lunch and rest. Once, he was suddenly curious about the structure of this object, when he noticed that it seemed to have metal and crystal inside, so he decided to break some pieces and send it to the US for confirmation of the type. He was surprised to learn that these samples did not come from Earth, but belonged to a meteorite. In February 2005, these objects appeared at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Exhibition (USA). Here, it was noticed by Professor DS Lauretta (a specialist in Planetary Science and Astrochemistry at the University of Arizona), who is also the principal investigator of NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission. Then, the remains of the Fukang Meteorite (with a mass of 983 kg, excluding the 20 kg mass smashed by hikers) was directly studied by the University of Arizona (USA). Scientists said that this rock belongs to the type of iron-stone meteorite, called Pallasite. Pallasite meteorites contain olivine, which is thought to come from the crust of a rocky planet orbiting between Mars and Jupiter. If not from the planet, it could belong to an asteroid with a rocky shell and a metal core. Pallasite can be distinguished by a meteorite iron substrate, embedded with silicate crystals, mainly olivine (a yellow to greenish-yellow crystal). The Pallasite meteorite is named after Simon Peter Pallas, a German naturalist. He was the first to describe Pallasite Krasnojarsk, a 700 kg meteorite, discovered in Russia in 1772. The origin of the Fukang meteorite, like other Pallasite meteorites, has not been scientifically explained so far. It is hypothesized that it originated from an asteroid with a melted and decomposed metal core and surrounding olivine mantle and formed with the solar system about 4.5 billion years ago. In addition to its rarity, the Fukang meteorite, like other Pallasites, is a very beautiful object. When shined through the olivine crystals, the light will make the meteorite glow brightly and spectacularly. Most expensive A cross section of the Fukang meteorite is on display at Arizona State University (USA). Because of this beauty, collectors have always wanted to own pieces of the Fukang Meteorite. The largest part of this meteorite, weighing nearly 420 kg, is currently in the possession of an anonymous collector or group of collectors. In 2008, the above Fukang meteorite was auctioned at Bonham’s, New York (USA) with a starting price of about 2 million USD. A curator and online auction organizer has placed the Fukang meteorite at number one in the “Top 10 Most Expensive Meteorites Ever Discovered on Earth”. However, no one participated in the auction for this treasure perhaps because the price was too high. Meanwhile, other small pieces of the remaining meteorite, have been purchased in auctions and distributed around the world. Particularly, the University of Arizona Meteorite Laboratory (USA) holds a total of 31 kg of Fukang meteorites. Their website describes the Fukang Pallasite as “the most breathtaking example of the splendor of the natural universe”. In February 2021, the famous auction house Christie’s said it had sold “part of the most beautiful extraterrestrial matter known”. That tiny piece of meteorite alone brought the seller $30,000, far exceeding the initial estimate of $3,500 – $4,500. What makes the Fukang meteorite so special? First of all, this is not an “ordinary meteorite”. Pallasite is an extremely rare heaven stone. This is because most Pallasite cannot survive falling into Earth’s atmosphere. It is estimated that less than 1% of rock falling from the sky is Pallasite. Therefore, the Fukang Meteorite is considered by scientists as one of the most important celestial rock discoveries of the 21st century. According to the Planetary Science Institute, based in Tucson, Arizona, USA, there have been about 1,100 observed and found meteorite falls in history. Meanwhile, the number found but not observed goes up to 40,000. The Fukang meteorite is among these. The institute estimates that about 500 meteorites collide with Earth every year, most of which burn up in the atmosphere, the rest fall into the ocean or in remote, desolate regions (According to Science 101).

NFT is a digital platform specializing in creating videos about sneakers, t-shirts or fashion accessories. After that, users will spend a certain amount of money to buy virtual products through an online payment gateway.

On May 15, NFT officially opened for sale a unique product inspired by the image of Hermès handbags and transformed into 3D footage. The product for sale this time is “Baby Birkin”, created by two artists Mason Rothschild and Eric Ramirez. Image of handbag “Baby Birkin”. Photo: Highsnobiety. The two created a 3D video of a transparent Birkin handbag containing a 40-week fetus and placed in the dark space of the Milky Way with an image size of 2000 x 2000. The virtual product is officially auctioned with starting at $2,000. According to NFT’s share, “Baby Birkin” is a unique digital item, allowing users to experience the feeling of touching a birkin bag in a dark space with the sound of being lost in space. In addition, this product also implicitly implies that Hermès deliberately created a scarcity to increase the shopping demand of customers and push the value of this bag line up. However, many people think that selling virtual handbags for $ 2,000 is unrealistic, because no one spends a lot of money just to own a fake item. Birkin handbags are always a fashion item that many people are looking for. Photo: ELLE. Before that, many brands also used virtual reality technology to bring fashion experiences to users. In August 2020, Gentle Monster showcased the creativity of the design team through a collection called “Redefinition of Eyewear”. The project of the Korean brand aims to be based on a digital platform to create close access between the public and the product. They create glasses in the traditional way, and then through a phone application turn them into an accessory on the user’s face. This gives shoppers a chance to experience the product before deciding to go to the store. Gentle Monster’s leading collection in the application of virtual reality technology is not intended for sale, but only to attract attention to the online community. One of the artists participating in the campaign – Daisy Collingrid – created glasses with a structure similar to human skin after being layered, revealing the facial epidermis called CLEM. Eyewear products combined with virtual reality technology.
The diamond ‘The Sakura’. ‘The Sakura’, the “perfect inside” pink purple diamond is named after the cherry blossom, a pink flower, typical of the country of the rising sun. This 15.81-carat gem has just become the most expensive purple-pink diamond ever sold at an auction after hitting a record $29.3 million. The diamond was set on a simple platinum ring, according to the auction house Christie’s that organized the sale. The diamond is classified as “internally flawless”, as any internal imperfections are visible only under a microscope and “fancy vivid” because of the depth of color. ‘The Sakura’ was purchased by an Asian private buyer, however the auction house did not provide any further details. “We are delighted to have marked another important chapter in jewelry auction history with The Sakura reaching a record price,” said Chrsitie’s president of jewelry, Vickie Sek. .. continues Christie’s tradition of offering the finest pink diamonds at auction”. ‘The Sakura’ was auctioned off with another diamond called ‘The Sweet Heart’, a fancy vivid heart-shaped pink diamond ring weighing 4.2 carats, selling for 6.6 million dollars. ‘The Sakura’ beat the previous record set by a 14.8 carat purple-pink diamond dubbed ‘The Spirit of the Rose’. It was sold for more than $27 million in an auction held by Sotheby’s in Geneva, Switzerland last November. Only 1% of pink diamonds are said to be larger than 10 carats and only 4% are classified as “fancy vivid”. ‘CTF Pink Star’, weighing 59.6 carats, holds the current record for the highest price paid for a pink diamond at auction at $71.2 million. It was sold in a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong in April 2017.

The vase looks very beautiful, is made of gold with a harmonious combination of light yellow and sky blue and 4 motifs like fish and flowers. The auction of this vase is also one of the most expensive transactions ever made. The value of the vase is not only limited to its materials and sophistication, but also to its historical value and uniqueness. Can you imagine, the soaring price of this vase is 80.2 million USD. Leonardo da Vinci’s Leicester Notebook Leonardo da Vinci’s notebook was written around 1508. It was among the 30 notebooks during his lifetime. The notebook consists of 72 pages with special linen material, containing more than 300 notes, detailed drawings related to the research topic of water and its movement; sketch studies of the famous Mona Lisa; explanation of the fossils found,.. Leonardo da Vinci’s Leicester Notebook However, if you just stop there, the notebook is just an ordinary notebook. What makes it so special and famous is that the notebook was written by its owner using a unique mirror writing technique. This way of writing backwards from right to left will force the reader to use a mirror when wanting to read it. Many people believe that he did this to keep his research secret, but it is also possible that it was Leonardo da Vinci’s own style. US billionaire Bill Gates is the most recent person to own this book for $ 30.8 million at an auction making it the most expensive book in the world today. The notebook is named after the Earl of Leicester, who first acquired it in 1719. Wine cabinet from the 18th century Wine cabinet from the 18th century. It should come as no surprise if this wine cabinet hits a record $30.4 million as it is one of the most exquisite pieces of furniture crafted in Florence during the Medici family’s rule. The lid of this urn is engraved with beautiful patterns with the peaceful natural scenery of the countryside such as plants, fish and poultry. According to the South China Morning Post Sotheby’s, the famous auction house, is now promoting the development of rare shoes to attract the interest of young customers around the world.

They have innovation from auction item to auction format. They not only put on the auction floor items such as jewelry, antiques, fine art… as before. In addition, traditional auctions have also been replaced by online auctions due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. Sotheby’s also said that young people are attracted to auctions of classic products, with unique designs and meaningful stories behind. Rare sneakers become hot items at auctions. Photo: Fabrice Coffrini/AFP. Last April, the company successfully auctioned Nike Air Yeezy 1s shoes once worn by Kanye West for $ 1.8 million. This is three times the previous auction record in the sneaker segment. Not stopping there, Sotheby’s continues to put on the auction floor more valuable sneaker collections. Typically, 13 pairs of basketball shoes have been worn by the greatest athletes in history NBA brought in the match, including Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Josh Pullan, managing director of Sotheby’s luxury goods division, said sneaker shoppers are typically 20-40 years old, younger than regular auction customers. “What’s also really exciting is that over 50% of the buyers and bidders at sneaker auctions are new Sotheby’s customers. So we found this to be a great item to attract new customers to “, he commented. Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy 1 shoes were purchased for $1.8 million. Photo: SCMP. The record for the price of sneakers is constantly being broken. Collecting rare sneakers is no longer a small hobby as it was 10 years ago. Many top collectors have appeared and are not afraid to spend large amounts of money to own “one-of-a-kind” shoes. Sotheby’s auction house appreciates the growth potential of the sneaker market. In particular, the Air Jordan 1s are the hottest. Many designs can be auctioned for about 110,000-164,000 USD. In addition, their value increases even more if they are used by famous artists and athletes.

Created by designers Mason Rothschild and Eric Ramirez, the handbag inspired by the Hermès Birkin line of bags, titled Baby Birkin, is available only as an NFT (non-fungible token). On May 20, the bag was auctioned on the floor Basic.Space for $23,500.

Hermès Birkin handbags range from $8,500 to $2 million. Unlike traditional bags, the Baby Birkin does not exist in real life and is not manufactured by Hermès. Inside the bag contains a 40-week-old fetus, which is clearly seen from the outside due to the transparent bag. The Hermès bag is sold on the NFT for $23,500. Photo: InputMag. Buyers of Baby Birkin will immediately receive a 3D video of the bag with a resolution of 2,000 x 2,000 pixels, with a proof of ownership token. When admiring the bag, the fetus inside will move and “grow” up to 40 weeks old, to music inspired by space. According to the InputMag , which is also the next difference of Baby Birkin compared to the usual Hermès Birkin bags. Instead of having to go to the store to order and wait for months or years to receive, Baby Birkin buyers will own the product as soon as the auction ends. According to the Basic.Space , the owner of an NFT handbag with the account name Aki Hayashi. There were a total of 32 bids, of which Hayashi made 4 bids and won with the final figure of $23,500. The designers claim this bag is valuable because it is rarer than any other handbag on the market. NFT is a concept that has been in the spotlight recently, when virtual items are traded at sky-high prices. One of them includes painting Everydays: The First 5,000 Days priced at $69.3 million, or Jack Dorsey’s first tweet is owned by a businessman for $2.9 million. Many fashion products such as watches and clothes have been “digitized” and sold on NFT floors, meeting the needs of users to own unique but bogus items. According to the NonFungible , NFT transaction value tripled in 2020, reaching $250 million. In 2021, the NFT fever still shows no signs of cooling down. Like new trends on the Internet, NFT creates mixed opinions about the real value, besides the possibility of just a speculative bubble. Things to know about NFT – the new fever of the world NFT stands for Non-Fungible Token. This is a cryptographic token on the blockchain that represents a single asset class.

Famous auction houses are attracting young people to buy rare fashion items by hiring influencers.
The world’s largest auction houses now tend to sell vintage fashion products as more and more people collect them for investment.

According to the SCMP , the Covid-19 pandemic makes fashion auctions on the Internet more popular. Last year, the number of Chinese customers bidding online for luxury fashion tripled. Katie McNaughton, a vintage store owner in London, UK, says the craving for vintage items has grown so much that people are investing in clothes, bags and shoes. They hope they will turn out to be attractive investments. These people hired McNaughton to take her advice. The bags “profitable” “The classic Chanel bag is like a savings account. It increased in value 12 percent last year and can continue to grow,” McNaughton said. Last year, Hermès handbags, Nike sneakers, Chanel shoes and Patek Philippe watches were the key items that determined sales at hit auction houses such as Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips. The major auction houses are focusing on selling historic items. Photo: SCMP. In December 2020, Christie’s Hong Kong caused a stir when it set an auction record for a handbag. It was the Hermès Himalaya Kelly model that sold for $437,330 to a young Chinese customer. This is like a new development in the fashion industry. As a result, handbags remain the most popular fashion item to buy and sell at auctions. It’s the accessory McNaughton now specializes in. She advises customers around the world to carefully select the items being auctioned for future profits. “If you want a safe and secure investment, you should choose classic bags from big brands like Chanel or Hermès. Because they create styles that are mainly seasonal. Bottega Veneta likes to create pieces. Unique items are also an option you should consider. Similarly, the Dior saddlebags many bought in the 1990s have suddenly become popular again at auction. My prediction for next year is the Fendi baguette,” McNaughton said. Hire storytellers to engage young people The demand for vintage bags is increasing due to the issue of sustainability being promoted in the fashion industry. In fact, designers also regularly revisit their archives to create new collections. This makes the new collections still breathe from the old design. Since then, the old item is remembered and becomes more valuable. Street-inspired items are also put on the auction floor to attract young people. Photo: AFP. Besides, in a pandemic year without much social contact, customers are also looking for personal items and products with meaningful historical elements. Therefore, the shortest way that can be met is to buy an item at an auction. To make the items more valuable and attract young people, brands rely on the help of social media influencers from China. Christie’s has announced the upcoming online handbag sale for Hermès and Chanel through an influencer. Similarly, Sotheby’s tells their jewelry stories with the help of Mr Bags (Tao Liang) – one of the top handbag and jewelry influencers in the world. Mr Bags is a big influence in the fashion industry in the country of billions of people. Photo: Tao Liang. Liang has more than 7 million followers on social media platforms. Recently, he posted a video about himself preparing to participate in the auction. In the end, he won a light gray Hermès Birkin bag for over $10,000. From there, people who watch Liang’s videos tend to follow suit. Aside from handbags, watches and jewelry, the most popular items in the auction are usually streetwear pieces. Auction houses are trending to help young Chinese collectors invest in sneakers, skateboards, sweatshirts and caps. “Many bidders have a love for art. They want to buy shoes and bags the same way they buy paintings or sculptures. They carefully consider both aesthetic value and resale value. in the future. Fendi Baguettes and Nike sneakers are the two items that could explode next.” SCMP identify. The rapper spends a villa room for 200 pairs of shoes Rapper J Balvin is a man with a passion for shoes. In his Japanese-style mansion, he reserved a room to store 200 pairs of shoes.

This is quite a large revenue. This year will be a boom year, there will be More demand than last year and I believe this will be a good start to a great auction season. We look forward to many more spectacular auctions.” Christie’s’ latest auction comes shortly after another auction organized by the same auction house, selling memorabilia related to Emperor Napoleon on the 200th anniversary of his death.

Fans are not pleased that the designer took off Jimin’s shirt and did not wash it clean.
According to the Pinkvilla The outerwear Jimin wore was created by Korean designer Kim Rieul. This item has a lot of meaning when it is mixed between traditional elements from hanbok and modernity.

The BTS member wore it when performing the song Idol in the program The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in September 2020. The design will be auctioned on April 22 with an initial price of 5 million won (approximately $ 4,469). The shirt was worn by Jimin at Gyeongbokgung Palace. Photo: Allkpop. Kim Rieul made Jimin fans angry when he admitted that he took away the male singer’s shirt and didn’t wash it. The incident was revealed when the designer filmed a video showing off his wardrobe. “This shirt was actually worn by Jimin on stage at Gyeongbokgung Palace to perform. I didn’t even wash it. I got it back right after the event,” Kim said. Koreaboo Comment: “It will be sold with Jimin’s intact body odor”. The BTS fan community thinks that the designer’s actions are unethical. Many people questioned whether Jimin knew his clothes would be sold without washing? Or did HYBE (Big Hit Entertainment) allow the designer to auction? The designer takes a video showing off the shirt that is about to be auctioned. Get your clothes back, “Kim Rieul said. In early April, the auction organization said the original designer did not want to sell the shirt Jimin wore. However, after that, he agreed. Fans were also very excited to hear idol clothes being auctioned at that time.

Around 1.5 million euros for worn sneakers: that’s how much an investor spent to buy a pair of sneakers from US rapper Kanye West – a record price.

From Peter Mücke, ARD Studio New York The most expensive sneakers of all time cost $ 1.8 million, the equivalent of around one and a half million euros. The US rapper Kanye West had worn the black leather shoes “Yeezy 1” at the 2008 Grammy Awards. A marketing coup by the manufacturer Nike, which until then had only named sneakers after athletes. Allegedly, the musician is said to have helped design the sneaker, which was then named after his nickname: Yeezy.

Limited edition available since 2009

The shoe came onto the market in a limited edition in 2009, followed by a successor model in 2012. After that, Kanye West ended its collaboration with Nike on the grounds that it did not get enough of the income. He is now under contract with German competitor Adidas. The pair “Yeezy 1” worn by West previously belonged to shoe collector Ryan Chang, who has now put them up for auction. The new owner is the sneaker investment platform “Rares”. There, buyers can acquire shares in rare sports shoes, similar to how shareholders can acquire shares in a company.

Previous record for Michael “Air” Jordan

Historical sneakers had recently repeatedly fetched high prices at auctions. Previous record holder: Michael Jordan basketball shoes for $ 615,000. Kanye West’s sneakers have now changed hands for three times the sum.

Less than two weeks, a number of businesses with licensed mines on the Tra Khuc River (Quang Ngai) sell sand to the market skyrocketing from 90,000 to 170,000 VND.
From the end of March up to now, a number of enterprises with licensed mines on the Tra Khuc River continuously increased the selling price of sand to the market from 90,000 VND to 170,000, to April 23, adjusted to 140,000 VND / m3. .

Facing the closure of illegal sand mining sites, hundreds of truck drivers flocked to Hop Nghia sand mine in Nghia Dung commune, Quang Ngai city in long queues waiting to buy sand on the Tra Khuc river. The price of sand increased dramatically According to truck drivers, the price of sand surged in a short time, making both the driver and the house-builder face many difficulties. “Seeing that many trucks flocked here are too crowded, so we increased the selling price to 170,000 VND / m3 so that they could withdraw less but not shovel the sand in time. Currently, we have reduced the selling price for each sand block to 140,000 VND” explains Hop Nghia sand mine management staff Dozens of trucks line up to buy sand on Tra Khuc River in Village 6, Nghia Dung Commune, Quang Ngai City. If they neglect to declare or issue an invoice, they will violate the tax law and be fined and collect money. tax like any other business, “Trung stressed. Competition is not fair According to businesses, it takes from 6 months to a year to complete sand mine auction procedures, including: Documenting exploration, reserve assessment, hiring a consultant to design documents, assess the environmental impact. school, gathering community opinions, handing over landmarks … Mining auctions have to pay billions of VND in natural resources tax, large costs to hire consultants to prepare design documents, assess environmental impacts, collect community opinions … “We have to adjust the selling price of sand to compensate for the losses of mine auction costs. Meanwhile, the sand exploiters sold to the market about 50,000 VND / m3 (the selling price is 3 times lower than that). compared to mining auctions) causing unfair competition “, said representative of Phu Gia Thinh Construction One Member Co., Ltd. Sand is scarce, some businesses voluntarily raise the selling price of construction sand, causing many difficulties for people. Photo: Minh Hoang. Mr. Dang Van Minh, Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee, acknowledged that there are many sand mines granted to public investment projects, providing for public investment projects, one, but ten. “Enterprise auctioned sand mines at high prices but could not sell because the illegal sand mining units dumped the price. This led to the consequences of unfair competition from enterprises, creating injustice in the management of natural resources. So I ask all branches and localities to inspect and handle this situation completely, ”Mr. Minh said. Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee, said that the auction plan for the right to exploit sand and gravel in the river bed submitted by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment was not consistent with the mineral planning. building materials, planning and regulation of rivers, planning of inland waterways … Mr. Hien noted that the eligible for licensing sand and gravel mines must be in line with the relevant sector plans and comply with the provisions of law. The localities must check the feasibility and effectiveness of the sand and gravel mines put into the auction, to avoid the situation of not being able to organize the exploitation after the units win the auction. Currently, the three sand mines on the Tra Khuc River (Quang Ngai) have valid exploitation permits. In which, in 2018, Hop Nghia Investment and Development Joint Stock Company auctioned a sand mine in village 6, Nghia Dung commune, Quang Ngai city with an area of 11 hectares with about 18.2 billion VND. Lung Lo Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company 251 auctioned a 3-hectare sand mine in Phuoc Loc village, Tinh Son commune, Son Tinh district, for 5.7 billion dong. Phu Gia Thinh Construction One Member Company Limited auctioned a 3.5-hectare sand mine in Dien Nien village, Tinh Son commune, Son Tinh district for 2.7 billion dong.

The porcelain bowl purchased from a second hand market is identified as an antique produced in the Ming Dynasty and can help its owner make more than 14,000 times more profit.
Porcelain bowls were bought by the owner from a second hand market in New Haven, Connecticut in the US in 2020 for only 35 USD, CNN February 25 quoted auction organization Sotheby’s as saying.

Right after buying the bowl from the market, the owner took pictures and sent it to experts for appraisal. The bowl was later identified by the Ming dynasty produced during the reign of King Minh Thanh To (1403-1424). The bowl is white with delicate motifs of lotus flowers, peony flowers, chrysanthemums and pomegranates. The diameter of the bowl is about 15 cm. The lotus bowl originated from the reign of King Minh Thanh To. Photo: Sotheby’s. The ancient bowl is named “lotus bowl” based on the lotus pattern on the outer body. The bowl is priced at 300,000-500,000 USD, 14,300 times more than the original purchase price by the owner. Auction organization Sotheby’s does not disclose the identity of the owner who bought the bowl from the second hand market. “The bowl has an extremely smooth porcelain body and a smooth enamel finish that doesn’t wear,” said Angela McAteer, head of Sotheby’s China Antiques division. The technology for making this bowl is not replicated in the later Ming dynasties, nor in successive dynasties, Ms. McAteer said. According to representatives of Sotheby’s, there are only 6 bowls in the world similar to antiques found in Connecticut, including those on display at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Antiques are scheduled to be auctioned on March 17 during Sotheby’s “Asian Week” event. In addition to the “lotus bowl”, other Chinese antiques at auction include a fine Tang Dynasty silver bowl and an 18th century jade vase. These two items are priced at 1, 5 million USD.

At the end of March, one of Twitter CEO’s first internet tweets, Jack Dorsey, was successfully auctioned, earning $ 2.9 million. And, the assets of this transaction are not only approximate.
  Can’t touch but sell

Similarly, TIME has auctioned three of their covers on digital space and earned nearly half a million dollars. The New York Times also sold their “first article in nearly 170 years of history”, earning $ 560,000. This market is becoming more bustling than ever. A tweet by billionaire Mark Cuban sold for a thousand dollars. Beeple, a cartoonist who specializes in caricatures, has sold millions of dollars of his work, even though no one has ever touched his paintings! Video clips of basketball shoots are gathered on a “marketplace” called NBA Top Shot, and its weekly revenue can reach hundreds of millions of dollars. Is digitization a tool so omnipotent that we have to deny the beauty of the real world? Photo source: Getty In all of these deals, the asset is completely virtualized, and it is sold by a technology called Non-Fungible Token (NFT). NFT is a code that records that a certain original asset (tweet, clip, cover …) belonging to any owner is unique and does not have a second. This unique digital version certificate is purchased, not assets that are materialized in physical form. But, these virtual assets, despite the fact that they may not be as physically interactive as real paintings or newspapers, are costing many times as much as the real thing that can be touched, even if you can. Readers feel this is crazy: these things should not even be sold, in the conventional sense of most of us. Modern people are increasingly moving towards the digital world: today, only about 3% of the circulating money exists in physical form, the rest are simply numbers in bank accounts. . Technology companies digitize enormous amounts of data about a person for advertising and business. Never in history have we acted as both the most active producer and consumer of data, as we do now. In fact, we’ve been selling “untouchable” things for a long time: in 2018, the New York Times published a shocking article about the black market on social media. An American company called Devumi has sold hundreds of millions of followers to 200,000 famous customers, TV stars, athletes, and even pastors and models. On Facebook, user accounts were hacked and fanpages were bought and resold for many purposes. But, the sale of NFT pushes the view of digital to an unprecedented extreme: internet products, based on bits of information, are practically something anyone can access and enjoy. The NFT eliminated this indulgence entirely, leaving only the single acknowledgment of ownership. This vision redefines our worldview: without touching and even enjoying it, we can still price and trade at a hefty price. We often tell ourselves that humans are becoming more and more “materialistic”, when the truth is that we are slowly denying the literal materiality of this world. The 1965 American installation artist Joseph Kosuth’s “One and Three Chairs” can make us reflect on our detachment from reality: it consists of a real chair in the middle, to the right of it. is a picture of a chair and to the left is the dictionary definition of a chair. Try digitizing these 3 objects and imagine how much memory it will take up on the computer’s hard drive. The line that defines the chair only needs about one kilobyte of data. The image even has the highest resolution increase, perhaps only up to 10 megabytes. The real chair can, in a way, be considered limitless. The most accurate digital scan can only produce a “map” of its surface features, and even these features can only be reflected with a certain degree of fidelity. No matter how detailed these data points can convey other subtle things, like the feeling of sitting on the chair, or the personality of the carpenter who made it. Digitization is, in this case, completely powerless against a universal object. Real world discrimination But stories that overblown the virtual world continued to be told. In 2014, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen cheerfully wrote a series of tweets on his Twitter account – he himself called them the “tweetstorm” – announcing that computers and robots were about to free it all. we are free from “the constraints of material needs”. He declared that, “for the first time in human history, we have been able to show our true integrity and integrity: we will be whoever we want to be”. Such prophecies can be easily refuted, but in fact they have shaped public opinion. By spreading a technological utopia, defining that progress is fundamentally just technology, these tycoons have encouraged the masses to give up important aspects of their lives and give them away. Allows entrepreneurs and financial professionals from Silicon Valley to freely recreate culture to suit their commercial interests. Pablo Neruda and what remains in his collection of “blunt rags”. Photo source: Alamy Stock In the book “Digitalization” (published in 1995), Massachusetts Institute of Technology founder Nicholas Negroponte said: “Computers are no longer computers. It is about life ”. Silicon Valley is home to more devices and software than anywhere in the world, and more importantly, it has successfully sold an ideology. This “creed” is utopian technologicalism, with the tool of treating digitization as an all-powerful tool and of infinite value. The people from Silicon Valley are fierce materialists: what can’t be measured means nothing. But, they hate matter. From their point of view, the world’s problems, from inefficiency and inequality to illness and death all stem from its physical characteristics, embodying itself in chaos and lack of flexibility. The panacea is a virtual world, and the commonly told story is that this society will be recreated and redeemed by computer code, with a new garden of Eden built out of bits, dissolving the world of things. add to this virtual network. It has led to a huge rise in the price of virtual things, in the expression of a new wave of progress: a picture, no, even a certificate of ownership. Digital painting on the internet is now a thousand times more expensive than a real picture, something we can hang up, touch, look at it every day and see the beauty in it. The real beauty. Not painting stories. In the process of searching for information for this article, I came across a story by Chilean poet and politician Pablo Neruda: he was a collector of curious objects, such as tubes. bizarre carvings, masks of Africa look rather odd, ships in bottles and whales’ teeth. He wrote in his book “Memories” (1974) that “in my house, I have gathered a collection of toys, large and small, that I cannot live without”. The poems Neruda wrote often praised these seemingly trivial and unique objects. “In my poems,” he wrote: “I cannot close the doors to the streets, just as I cannot close the doors to love, life, joy or sadness.” Today, perhaps we do not often find such people who love things so often, not by the superficial preference of a consumerist, but by someone who understands being able to touch. something and feel it may be the most valuable thing in the world: “Someone who does not play has forever lost the child living in him and he will miss it very much” – Neruda wrote. For Neruda, children are considered materialistic in the purest and purest sense, enjoy the textures, sounds, colors, and smells of objects and are able to live fully in those moments. . In September 1973, during Neruda’s funeral, soldiers following the dictator Pinochet’s truth trampled on the collection and broke most of them. These rough gestures, in a sense, are also regrettable: they lost a chance to see beauty, as Neruda did. Today, no one takes away our right to touch real things with such rudeness. But, it seems that many of us are willing to give this up, for someone else’s story. About things that may not be of any value (compared to something in the flesh) but are being valued in millions.

While auction organizer Sotheby’s did not disclose the identity of the owner who bought the precious bowl, Sotheby’s head of the Chinese arts department, Angela McAteer, told CNN By phone prior to the March 17 auction, the person who found the bowl at a second hand market did not haggle when buying it for an asking price of 35 USD. Immediately after buying, he sent a photo of the bowl to auction specialists, and it was immediately identified as an object of historical significance. “Instinctively we have a very, very good feeling about the bowl,” said Ms. McAteer. After more thorough examination, experts identified this antiquity – also known as the “lotus bowl” – produced by the Ming court during the reign of Emperor Minh Thanh To (1403-1424) – during period is famous for its special sophisticated porcelain technique. “The bowl has an extremely smooth porcelain body and the glossy enamel is not abrasive,” Ms. McAteer said. The industry of making this bowl is no longer found in later dynasties. According to representatives of Sotheby’s, there are only 6 bowls in the world similar to antiques found in Connecticut, including those on display at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Bernard Madoff – the man behind the largest and most devastating pyramid scheme in history, taking over $ 65 billion of tens of thousands of victims worldwide, has gone from the pinnacle of fame. hope – from a powerful Wall Street tycoon to an extremely hated criminal who spends the rest of his life in a prison in North Carolina. The US federal prison agency confirmed that Bernard Madoff died at the age of 82 on April 14 while serving a prison term.

Super trick Bernard Madoff. Photo: Reuters

“We think he is God”

For decades, Bernard Madoff, former chairman of the Nasdaq stock exchange, has been regarded as a model of a self-made financial expert who always enjoys luck despite the volatility of the market.

He has attracted a large number of dedicated investment clients, from Florida retirees to the rich and famous, including director Steven Spielberg, actor Kevin Bacon, Fred Wilpon – team boss baseball New York Mets and Elie Wiesel – Nobel Peace Prize winners

Madoff, was born in 1938 in a middle-class Jewish neighborhood in Queens, New York. His father, Ralph, was a stockbroker – the son of Eastern European immigrants in the United States.

Madoff and his brother Peter arrived on Wall Street in 1960 with the meager money saved from working as lifeguards and installing sprinkler systems. Madoff studied political science and law before founding Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities (BMIS). BMIS has built a reputation for large deals on the Nasdaq. In 1980, the company owned three floors of a high-rise building in downtown Manhattan.

Madoff helped make Nasdaq the largest stock exchange in North America through efforts to build its competitive advantage and increase its influence between 1970 and 1980. He was later appointed. President Nasdaq, has become a reliable figure in the eyes of investors as well as regulators.

“We think he is God. We entrust everything into his hands “, Elie Wiesel – Nobel Peace Prize winner shared.

Silently “cheat black child”

But what the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) did not discover is that behind the scenes, in a separate and closed office, Madoff secretly runs the virtual wealth network using the money of the houses. New investments to pay back the old ones. If other ponzi scams work by paying high returns to investors and then collapsing quickly, Madoff pays a modest but steady return to perpetuate the scam over the long term.

Over the years, at least $ 13 billion has been invested in Madoff’s missions, the US authorities said. The collected documents show that Madoff’s profits are always stable at 2 digits even during market downturns. Before Madoff was arrested, many reports said that the amount of invested assets had reached 65 billion USD.

Kim in the bag for a long time also emerged

It all collapsed in 2008 after Madoff’s business was uncovered as a classic Ponzi scheme that brought the businessman billions. This mission has evaporated all money and wiped out the fortunes of investors – rich and poor, shattering many charities and funds around the world. Madoff – the biggest fraud boss in Wall Street history is so hated that he must wear a bulletproof vest to court after admitting his crime.

Madoff’s crimes not only ruined the lives of 37,000 victims, but also destroyed his own family, including Madoff’s two sons. Mark – one of his children committed suicide in 2010 – two years after his father was arrested. Another left son, Andrew, died of cancer at the age of 48. His wife, Ruth, is still alive and is currently hiding somewhere in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Madoff has created “a legend around him that makes everything special, unique and all,” said Elie Wiesel, a victim of the Ponzi mission that was seized for $ 15.2 million. are kept secret ”. Like many of his clients, Madoff and his wife enjoy a lavish lifestyle. They own a $ 7 million apartment in Manhattan, a $ 11 million real estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and a $ 4 million home on Long Island. In addition, his family has a house in the south of France, private aircraft and yachts.

In a report released in 2009, lawyer Irving Picard, representing the victims of the scam said: “The investigation of Madoff’s assets has led to a maze of funds, nests organizations and many international agencies are related and intertwined in unprecedented complexity with a width that seems to have no stops “.

The report said Madoff’s scam spread widely: Britain, Ireland, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Spain, Gibraltar, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Bahamas. More than 15,400 lawsuits have been filed against Madoff.

Madoff pleaded guilty in March 2009, saying he wanted to apologize to all victims and was deeply ashamed of his behavior. After being confined to an attic apartment in Manhattan for a while, he was sentenced to 150 years in prison in June 2009 and began serving in July 2009. The Madoff’s property was auctioned off. The US government also set up a trust to recoup the money that Madoff’s company has put into investments and pay thousands of victims.

The entire port infrastructure of An Thoi, the largest general seaport in the island city of Phu Quoc, will continue to be leased in the form of auction.

An Thoi port is currently promoting about 17% of its design capacity

Mining right auction

An Thoi Port is a seaport invested by the State with a total cost of 128 billion VND with a design capacity of 280,000 tons of cargo / year, 440,000 passengers / year. At the time the project was put into operation (2012), An Thoi is the main port (main port) and the only port in Phu Quoc that can receive ships of up to 3,000 DWT.

Previously, in January 2014, the Vietnam Maritime Administration gave a consortium of investors, Saigon Transport Services Joint Stock Company – Hiep Phuoc Maritime and Development Investment Joint Stock Company (TRANACO Joint Stock Company – HPI) leases the infrastructure of An Thoi port with the lease period from 2014 to 2043. These two investors have established An Thoi Port Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company to execute the contract with the Department. Vietnam Maritime. However, during the implementation of the Contract, due to a number of reasons from the lessee, the Vietnam Maritime Administration unilaterally terminated the above-mentioned Contract on January 1, 2021.

It should be added that the leasing of maritime infrastructure has been implemented quite effectively by the Ministry of Transport – Transport and the Vietnam Maritime Administration. Since 2004 until now, there have been 4 leases of marine infrastructure invested with state budget funds, with the total rental paid to the state budget up to 1,480 billion VND. .

“The contract no.03 for renting An Thoi port was unilaterally terminated ahead of time because the internal investor consortium had many disagreements, leading to the incorrect payment of rent to the State on time. The operation of An Thoi port in the form of leasing still brings efficiency to the State ”, Mr. Luu Quang Lam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of An Thoi Seaport Investment and Exploitation Joint Stock Company affirmed.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nhat, Deputy Minister of Transport – Transport, to continue to select the lessee to operate An Thoi port according to the provisions of Decree No. 43/2018 / ND-CP dated March 12, 2018 of the Government, The Ministry of Transport has instructed the Vietnam Maritime Administration (the unit assigned to manage assets) to develop the Scheme.

“Up to now, the Scheme’s dossier has been completed and valid according to regulations. The fact that the Ministry of Transport and Transport consulted the Ministry of Finance – the public property management agency – is to comply with the provisions of Decree No. 43/2018 / ND-CP dated March 12, 2018 of the management, use and exploitation of maritime infrastructure assets, ”said Mr. Nhat.

Potential risks

According to the proposal of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the entire maritime infrastructure of An Thoi port will continue to be leased for about 42 years from the time of signing the lease contract (expected from 2021). by 2063 (according to the time of use of the property).

The starting price for the rental auction of An Thoi port infrastructure is about 195 billion VND, determined by two items: fixed collection price worth 160 billion VND (residual value of the property; service costs annual asset management and exploitation of the lessor; cost of project formulation, auction organization) and the change in price of VND 35 billion, based on the lessee’s revenue from exploiting profit.

Representative of the Vietnam Maritime Administration said that this starting price is close to the developments of An Thoi port in recent times. In fact, after 7 years of leasing, it shows that the output of goods through the port only reached an average of 17% of the design capacity.

The main reason is that goods transported to Phu Quoc Island are mainly construction materials for civil construction works, goods related to people. Because it is located in the southern part of the island, far from projects and works under construction, if the cargo is unloaded at An Thoi port, it will take a long road transport process, but the road is narrow, through the residential market small bridges, bridges, low payloads, not suitable for the transportation of heavy and bulky goods.

“That is not to mention, Phu Quoc currently has many temporary ports and inland waterway ports, scattered near the construction works around the island, with cheap rates, quite convenient for loading and unloading goods. The contractor will definitely have experience and a stable source of goods, ”said the leader of the Vietnam Maritime Administration.

An Thoi Port Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company, Phu Quoc Sun Company Limited and some local investors are very interested in participating in leasing the right to operate An Thoi port in the case of the Scheme. approved by competent authorities.
