It is the birthplace of Huize, Shanxi and Gansu provinces, and the Weihe River that runs through Longqin. It is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization, and it is also one of the “50 Scenic Spots of the Yellow River in China”, which is a typical representative of Yellow River tourism. The natural scenery here is beautiful, and the culture has a long history. There is a magical phenomenon of “birds and mice in the same cave”. There is a saying that “the rats are inside, the birds are outside, and they give birth to each other without harming each other.” Weiyuan water has been passed down from generation to generation”. It is the source of the Weishui River in Weiyuan County, Dingxi, Gansu.

We know that the Wei River, which flows through dozens of cities and counties in Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, is the largest tributary of the Yellow River. It has a total length of 818 kilometers and accommodates approximately 270 large and small rivers. It is one of the oldest rivers in China. This is the birthplace of the ancestors Fuxi and Nuwa in ancient Chinese legends. It is the origin of the first ancestors of the Chinese people, Xuanyuan Huangdi and Shennongyan. Legendary stories such as Emperor Wen’s “Baling Tuomeng” are one of the oldest habitats of the Chinese nation and one of the earliest birthplaces of Chinese culture. But who would have thought that the source of such a mighty Weihe River, which is dwindling thousands of miles day by day, is the three-eyed clear spring hidden in the depths of a mountain named after “birds and mice”? This mountain is the uncommon mountain Niaoshushan, which is known by the Scriptures. This eye spring is the “Pinzi Spring” in the deep forest on the south side of the mountain. Niaoshu Mountain, recorded in the “Shanhai Jing·Xishan Jing” as “Birds and Rats with the Same Cavern Mountain”, is located about 10 kilometers southwest of Weiyuan County, Gansu, and belongs to the remnant of Kunlun Mountains. It is the watershed of the two rivers of Tao and Wei. The birthplace of the Weihe River. There are many historical records about this mountain. For example, in Shangshu·Yugong, it was mentioned that Yu had “guided the Wei from the same cave and the mountain with birds and mice” during the water management. The record of “Niaoshushan in the south of Weiguting in Shouyang County, Longxi Province” and so on. The name is called because there are a lot of birds and rodents in the mountains, and the geographical environment is particularly special. There are no trees for birds to make nests to lay eggs. In order to ensure the safety of their eggs, the birds decided to settle in mice. In the cave, over time, the bird and the mouse are mutually beneficial and coexist in harmony, and there is a scene of “birds and mice in the same cave” that people have seen. In fact, there are many legends about the same cave with birds and mice. It is said that the bird and the mouse were changed by a loving couple. The wife is hardworking and kind, but the husband is lazy. Although the days are poor, he is respectful and respectful. The husband often admires the birds in the sky, being leisurely and free from labor. One day his wife accidentally rescued the Dragon King of the Weihe River by the river. In order to repay her, the Dragon King asked her to go to the opposite mountain when the cock cried the next day. When the appointment was made, the husband was lazy, and when his wife climbed to the top of the mountain. He just arrived at the mountainside, so the Weihe Dragon King gave his wife a pair of wings that could fly into the sky, but the husband only got a pair of sharp teeth for eating wild fruits. The wife can’t forget the husband she loved, so she went to live with her husband in the cave. This is the beautiful legend of the same cave with birds and mice. Since we talked about Niaoshu Mountain, of course we have to talk about the “Pinzi Spring” at the source of the Weihe River hidden deep in the mountain forest. As the name suggests, Pinzi Spring is composed of clear springs with three eyes in the structure of “Ping”, and each spring has very ancient legends. The “Legend Whip Spring” was named after the word “Legend Whip” was written here by the king of Tang. It is said that Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty, passed by here during his western expedition. When drinking water in the spring, he accidentally dropped his whip and disappeared. So he wrote down the word “Legend Whip” by the spring as a mark. “Yu Yangquan” was named because it was called a divine spring by Yu. The Temple of King Yu by the spring was built to commemorate Yu’s governance of the Wei River. When Dayu and the God of Water worked together in a decisive battle here, his soldiers drank the spring when they were tired of people and horses. They felt refreshed and morale. They defeated Gonggong in one fell swoop and won the victory in water control. “Tuyunquan” is said to be the “Dragon Pond” of the Dragon King of the Weihe River. According to legend, someone once saw the Dragon King here spit out smoke and clouds, spreading clouds and rain, and it is said that it rains whenever there is bubbling in the spring. Of course, in addition to the profound historical and cultural background, and the rich cultural landscape, the natural scenery of Niaoshu Mountain is also extremely beautiful. Here, the green hills are like Daisies, the clear waters are like practice, the forests are dense, and the ecology is excellent. If you have the opportunity to go to Gansu, you must take a look.

Pig Bird is a bird of unique beauty It’s been a long time since I’ve been home. The village has changed day by day, green, yellow, white, red… matching. The village is now no different from the city. In multicolor, I like blue. Green, green, forest green… Green also means sustainability and ecology. Many joys and many sorrows of the revolution” New countryside “. I am born and raised in my hometown. The stumbling blocks on the village road, from my childhood…helped me grow up, walking slowly on the path of life. In a little holy joy, I am glad the birds are back. Not because the trees are more green. Perhaps because humans are less likely to chase and eradicate. Humans have known to cherish the birdsong of freedom in the canopy of leaves. Among many named and unknown birds, I have heard the sound of the Pig bird. Regarding the memory of each tree branch, blade of grass, each bird species, I admire poet Vuong Cuong. All kinds of birds in his hometown, attached to his childhood, he told them all in the work “ The one who made peace with the sky “. I only remember Hello crest (also known as Chuc cat in Nghe An), Warbler, Brown Se (known in Nghe An as Rach Rach or Chop Chop – I wrote in the prose Bird Rach), Pickaxe, Cheo boo… …. Where is the Cheo and the banyan tree of faithful life bamboo groves with yellow ivory growing flute Who’s daughter has dimples (Oh village, poem by Ngo Duc Hanh) “ Eh, eh, eh…”, In the early morning or evening, the sound of the Pig bird in the high, lonely sky. A few days ago, I heard, from strange to familiar. Looks like they’re looking for you. When I was a child, when I heard adults say, whenever I heard the sound of a pig, someone would die in the village. Many people believe that the Pig bird or Pig owl is a harbinger of a death. When the Pig bird cries at the end of someone’s house, that house is about to have someone die, 7 calls for men and 9 calls for women. They believe that when people are about to die, they will release a specific smell that only Pig birds can detect and warn thanks to, thanks to their keen hearing. Scary sound. Proving spiritually, the sound of the Pig bird is synonymous with bad luck. I do not know tissue, numbness. Not even seen. Folks often push “ follow the mouth “. Few people are willing to study in detail. In fact, in the animal kingdom there is a “ surname “The bird is called the Pig Owl. Its scientific name is Tytonidae, which is one of two animal families belonging to the order Owls, some species found in Vietnam are often referred to as pig birds or pig birds because of its pig-like call. Pig Owls are birds of prey, mainly nocturnal, often living in pairs or solitary and non-migratory. Dishes” quiche ” of birds Pigs are mice, insects, lizards and some other birds. “ Eh, eh, eh.. .”, the sound is also scary, isn’t it? Contrary to its slow, calm and mysterious appearance, the Pig bird is actually a professional predator killer. In the dark, its sharp eyes can see even a small mouse running at a distance of hundreds of meters. With the speed of a wind and claws as sharp as knives, no prey can escape death when caught by them.” put in sight “. When I was a child, I went to the garden, sometimes I saw a Pig bird and ran into the house. Bird eyes Pig big, bright, pointed beak; Pig’s bird’s face is similar to that of a cat’s, so it’s easy to confuse the Pig owl (the Pig bird) and the Cat owl. The Owl family has the Cat owl and the Pig owl. Talking about the Pig owl, according to biodiversityist, engineer Le Sy Thuc, once the Director of Hanoi Zoo, there are 3 species of Pig owls in Vietnam, in addition to the Eastern wild boar owl, there is also the gray-backed pig owl. and the brown-backed owl are both classified as animals that are natural enemies of rats, and are strictly prohibited from being exploited from the wild. Among the three species of Pig owls, according to Mr. Le Sy Thuc, the wild boar owl is a species of aesthetic and scientific value, and a valuable genetic resource. Currently, the wild boar owl is included in the Red Book of Vietnam, the level of danger is due to the small number of individuals (not yet determined how many individuals still exist in the wild) and rare. Wild boar owl is included in the Red Book, hunting is strictly prohibited Chirp “ Eh, eh, eh…” is a survival weapon in the natural world that birds have. “Eh, Eh, Eh…”, the Pig bird uses its cry to scare its prey, causing them to panic and run away, then with its super-intelligent eyes, it will easily detect it. During the breeding period, the bird’s food needs increase, so they have to work harder to hunt. Which means they also chirp more. Call to hunt. At night, their cries echo in the quiet space, causing many people to fear and associate with mysterious things. Unlike Vietnam, in the world, people love Pig birds, in addition to their unique beauty, also because they have a very funny heart-shaped face and smooth plumage with many splendid patterns. Dance of the Pig Bird Is it true that a pig’s cry predicts human death? I once asked this question to Mr. Le Sy Thuc. He burst out laughing, not thinking I was that childish. It’s been a shame ever since. Pig Bird” death notice “is a misunderstanding, causing” Color Oan Thi ” for this useful bird. Even in folklore, who knows “ pry “, “ slander”, “give bad news “… about other people often given nicknames” Pig bird “. Disparaged” Birds Pigs “Definitely someone to be wary of. Pig Bird into poetry, perhaps only the song “Bird bird” / 猪鳥啼 translates as “” The sound of birds chirping ” by Confucian scholar Ngo The Lan, Le Mat dynasty (late Le Trung Hung period, 18th century). Oh the sound of birds and pigs sounds scary It called it hissing five bucks Non Thai tilts upside down the evil shadow The land of waves rolling black clouds Red swallows cry for mercy and hide in the forest Weasel wolves are all over the place Who dares to say outside of the court? Oh the sound of birds and pigs sounds scary (Source: Binh Tri Thien celebrity (volume I), Phan Hua Thuy, Thuan Hoa Publishing House, 1987, pp. 60 – 78) The poem shows that the society of the Le Mat period was dyed in a dreary dark color. For the black people, death (because of poverty, harsh policies, and chivalry) kept the party close to them while the rulers became more and more self-indulgent. During the market economy, on the stock exchange, “ Pig bird ” is also used. “ Pig Bird ” are people who specialize in badmouthing stocks or analyzing stocks that will drop in price with the aim of causing the stock to drop below its current price. They are holding money and want to buy stocks so they want the stock to drop in price to be bought cheap. That’s it, it’s very unfair to the Pig bird in the wild. Bad points or good omens are not brought by the Pig bird. Bad or good is due to “ blessings “The life created by each living being and by each nation. Now, every time I hear the pig’s voice, I look up at the sky. Amidst the stars, the wings of the Pig bird are splendid, spread out in a friendly manner. Ha Tinh, June 11, 2021 New Year’s Day

Workers give an H9 bird flu vaccine to chicks at a farm in Changfeng district, Anhui province, April 14, 2013. Photo: Reuters. A 41-year-old man in eastern China’s Jiangsu province has been confirmed as the first case of a rare bird flu called H10N3, Beijing’s National Health Commission (NHC) said. The man, a resident of Zhenjiang City, was hospitalized on April 28 and was diagnosed with H10N3 on May 28, the NHC said on June 1, adding that his condition was stable. determined. The NHC did not give details on how the man became infected but said a check of his close contacts found no other cases and the risk of transmission was very low. What does the world know about H10N3? Little is known about this virus, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which appears to be very rare in birds and does not cause serious illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that although the source of the patient’s exposure to the H10N3 virus has not been identified and no other cases have been found in the local population, there is still no indication of the disease. person-to-person transmission. However, avian influenza viruses may have little effect on birds but can have much more severe effects in humans, such as the H7N9 strain that killed nearly 300 people in China during the winter of 2016-2017. The WHO says there are only rare cases of human-to-human transmission of the H7N9 virus. What is the risk of H10N3 infection? The risk of further transmission of H10N3 is currently thought to be very low, with experts describing the case as “sporadic”. Such cases occasionally occur in China, where there are large numbers of domestic and wild birds of many species. And with increased surveillance of avian influenza among the population, more and more cases of avian influenza virus infections are occurring. In February, Russia reported its first human case of the highly damaging H5N8 virus on poultry farms across Europe, Russia and East Asia last winter. Authorities said seven people infected with the virus had no symptoms. Experts would be wary of any cluster of H10N3 cases, but for now, a single case is not a cause for concern. The WHO told Reuters in a statement: “As long as avian influenza viruses are circulating in poultry, sporadic human infection of avian influenza is not surprising, it is a living reminder that the threat of an influenza pandemic persists.” According to Filip Claes, regional laboratory coordinator of FAO’s Transboundary Animal Diseases Emergencies Center in the Asia Pacific regional office, only about 160 virus isolates have been reported. for 40 years to 2018. However, influenza viruses can mutate rapidly and mix with other strains circulating on farms or among migratory birds, known as “reclassification,” which means they can produce new strains of the virus. Genetic changes pose a threat of transmission to humans. What more will the world need to know? The genetic sequence of the virus that infects the patient has yet to be published and will be needed to fully assess its risk. Scientists will want to know how easily H10N3 can infect human cells to determine if it could pose a greater risk. For example, the H5N1 variant that first infected humans in 1997 is the most lethal, killing 455 people globally to date. It takes only a few mutations before the H5N1 variant is capable of spreading easily from person to person, said Ben Cowling, a professor at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health. Having the genetic information of the H10N3 variant will help assess whether it is “closer to the virus we should be worried about,” he said.

Rare rains in early summer have brought the green of the forest back to Yok Don National Park. This is also the time when the Yok Don National Park Ranger force somewhat breathed a sigh of relief. Because, in the dry season (lasting from November to April next year), the forest protection force always faces many difficulties, especially the protection of wildlife.

Ranger Station No. 8 coordinated with Dak Rue Border Gate Border Station to detect animal traps placed in the forest. Photo: Ngoc Lan Yok Don National Park was established in 1992, is the second largest national park in the country, with an area of 115,545 hectares and is also the only place to preserve dipterocarp forest (DDF) in Vietnam. DDF is a unique type of forest ecosystem, containing many important and endemic species. Yok Don National Park is home to many wildlife species, including 92 species of mammals, 373 species of birds, 18 species of amphibians, 55 species of reptiles, 373 species of birds and 1,006 species of plants, hundreds of species freshwater fish and thousands of species of insects. Many of these species are listed in the Red Book of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Mr. Pham Tuan Linh, Director of Yok Don National Park said: “Yok Don National Park manages and protects a large forest area. Meanwhile, the swidden area of the people is interwoven with the forest area managed by the Ranger Stations, so the subjects take advantage of the forest to hunt, shoot, trap and catch forest animals. In particular, during the dry season, when the vegetation is on fire, forest animals will move into semi-evergreen and evergreen forest areas for shelter and in places near the remaining water sources in the forest such as forests. lake, puddle. Taking advantage of this behavior of forest animals, many subjects have hunted, shot, and trapped wild animals. Since the beginning of 2020, the Yok Don National Park Ranger force has promptly detected, prevented and handled 37 cases related to wild animals. In which, there are 20 cases with owners and 17 cases without owners; The seized exhibits include 5 individuals of wild animals and more than 120kg of animal meat. In addition, the Ranger force also seized 27 custom shotguns and more than 150 cable traps of all kinds. Most of the main violations are hunting, trapping, illegally catching wild animals and transporting, buying and selling wild animals, violating the State’s regulations on forest protection (carrying vehicles, tools, etc.). illegal hunting of wild animals). Although the number of cases is not large, it has shown the initiative in deploying many preventive measures early and remotely by the Yok Don National Park rangers. For many months now, Mr. Nguyen The Cuong, Deputy Head of Ranger Station No. 9 of Yok Don National Park, and his teammates have had to stretch themselves constantly at a key point deep in the forest, he shared: “The 9th Ranger Station manages the forest. manage and protect 17 sub-zones, equivalent to about 17 thousand hectares of forest. This area is located in the core zone of the National Park. During peak times, there are days when the Station has discovered more than 10 wire traps of all kinds. Most of these wire traps are located in evergreen forest areas and near puddles and water holes in the forest, when animals come to drink water, they will easily get caught in the trap. Specifically, the incident happened on May 5, 2020. During the process of patrolling and undercover, the Ranger force of Ranger Station No. 9 discovered and arrested 6 subjects who violated regulations on wildlife protection; The confiscated exhibits include more than 10kg of dried wild boar meat, a living Mang (roe deer). Ranger Station No. 9 has sanctioned administrative violations against the subjects. In the first half of May, 2021, the Ranger force of Ranger Station No. 9 discovered and seized more than 33 wire traps of all kinds that are installed in the forest. The Force of Ranger Station No. 9 asked the violators to release wild animals back into the natural environment. Photo: Ngoc Lan According to Deputy Head of Forest Protection Station No. 9, if these traps are not detected and seized in time, forest animals will be at very high risk of being trapped. seriously injured or dead; Many times when the patrolmen also encounter these traps, which are very dangerous… Therefore, in order to promptly prevent activities of encroachment and destruction of forests, especially wild animals, the Ranger Station No. 9 has arranged 3 key positions, stationed at key places, coordinated with patrol activities around the area where objects can be used to hunt and capture animals. In addition, the station also cooperates with officers and soldiers of Se Re Pok Border Station and Dak Lak Border Guard to patrol and protect forests. Not only Ranger Station No. 9, but all 16 Ranger Stations and Mobile Teams of Yok Don National Park must always strengthen the force of stationing, latching and clinging to the forest, especially in the dry season to promptly detect and prevent forest encroachment. The coordination work is also effectively implemented by the Ranger Stations, especially with the Border Guard stations in the forest area of Yok Don National Park. Pham Tuan Linh, Director of Yok Don National Park emphasized: “In order to manage and protect forests in general and protect wildlife in particular, Yok Don National Park has directed the implementation of many drastic measures. synchronously, such as increasing the frequency and density of patrols and secret uniforms of the forest rangers, combining patrolling and secret uniforms with focusing on de-trapping and applying science and technology in the process of performing tasks. . At the same time, promote legal propaganda and education to each population in the buffer zone in order to change the habit of depending on the forest of some people. We also work closely with relevant authorities and local authorities, in which, effectively implement the regulation on coordination with the Dak Lak Border Guard Command, between ranger stations and border guard posts.

Tulip turbines are “planted” in urban areas, on the rooftops of houses in Amsterdam, the Netherlands Traditional wind turbines are often located in the sea, are huge in size, make loud noises, can harm birds, and it is important that very strong winds are needed to generate electricity. The new tulip-shaped design overcomes all of the above shortcomings, it only needs a normal wind to generate enough electricity for a family to use comfortably all day. Israeli-American Dr Daniel Farb, the inventor of the tulip turbine, said the unique aerodynamic design makes the turbines quiet, efficient and capable of generating more than 50% of the electricity in clusters. Shaped like glossy flowers in a variety of colors and sizes (1m, 3m and 6m high), the tulip turbines are designed to double duty as electricity generation and artistic decoration on the rooftops. home, shopping mall, school… In addition, a solar system combined with tulip turbines could reduce overcrowding during the late afternoon peaks in many parts of the world when sunlight goes out and strong winds pick up.

GS. Vo Quy is a famous Vietnamese scientist on biodiversity and environment. Most of his friends call him the ornithologist. However, few people know, he also spent his life researching the effects of dioxin poison.
  Friend of birds

GS. Vo Quy loves nature , interested in raising birds from a young age, he soon oriented himself to pursue a major in Ornithology right from the moment he started teaching at the Department of Biology, Hanoi University (1956). Ornithologist Vo Quy. “I have a habit of watching birds since I was 5-6 years old, so I know all the birds in my hometown. Knowing the habits of each species such as what time to wake up, when to return to the nest, what fruit to eat, how to reproduce… When I went to university, I decided to follow the path of science and birds become my research object”, while still alive, Prof. Vo Quy once confided to the press. When he was just over 30 years old, GS. Vo Quy discovered a new species of pheasant – Hemorrhoids Ha Tinh, in Ke Go area (Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province). Although scientists around the world refused to recognize his discovery, Prof. Vo Quy Kien still persists in researching Tri Lam Ha Tinh (also known as “big chicken” in the local language). Twenty years later, those documents convinced international scientists and the International Council for the Protection of Birds (ICBP) to name this bird “in memory of the man who discovered and accurately described a species of bird.” Rare new hemorrhoids. Up to now, GS. Vo Quy and his colleagues and students made information records for more than 1,000 species and subspecies of birds in our country. He wrote 14 books about birds such as: “Birds of Vietnam” (volumes 1, 2), “Life of birds”, “List of birds in Vietnam”…; is the main translator of 3 books on the environment and is also the author of more than 100 scientific works published in the country and abroad. Therefore, this brilliant scientist was loved by his colleagues and students as “the ornithologist”. In his scientific life, besides birds, Prof. Vo Quy conducts many research projects on rare animal species as well as many other fields of biodiversity and environment. Attaching life to… Agent Orange Knowledge of birds has made Prof. Vo Quy noticed the impact of toxic chemicals (dioxins) on Vietnam. Because he understood that where there were birds, there was life. The images he recorded of the vast forests dying from Agent Orange, the desolate landscape, without a single bird call convinced the world about the terrible impact of Agent Orange on the environment. our country school. GS. Vo Quy on a business trip. He started working on dioxin research in the 1970s. In the smoke and fire of the war in the South, at the suggestion of Prof. Ton That Tung, he and a group of scientists went to survey the war consequences caused by US chemical poisons in the Ben Hai area. However, at that time, the war was fierce, the delegation of Prof. When Vo Quy entered Hien Luong, he could not cross the 17th parallel to enter the South, the trip was unsuccessful. In 1974, despite knowing many difficulties and dangers, Prof. Vo Quy resolutely applied to enter the South again, bringing a delegation of 10 people. Three months of diving along Truong Son Road. He witnessed with his own eyes thousands of hectares of forests were sprayed with toxic chemicals by the US, all life was brutally destroyed. During that survey, Prof. Vo Quy and his colleagues recorded 300 16-millimeter movies of vast forests with old trees that many people could not hold to die from Agent Orange. The landscape was desolate, not a single bird chirping, gibbons singing. It was from what he witnessed firsthand that made GS. Vo Quy came to the conclusion as early as the 1980s that it would take hundreds of years for two million hectares of poisoned forest to regenerate itself. “The work of resurrecting the dead land is extremely difficult. Where it is sprayed a few times, the remaining trees may have a chance to regenerate, where it is sprayed many times, the trees die, the soil is eroded, the grass is covered, the American grass is covered, the forest trees are very difficult to grow. return without human impact.” In addition, GS. Vo Quy further affirmed, even if people try to plant forests, but do not fully understand the characteristics of the land degraded by toxic chemicals, in order to choose suitable tree species, afforestation will be difficult to succeed. public. He estimates that the cost of planting a patch of forest contaminated with toxic chemicals is 10 times more expensive than planting a plot of normal forest. Therefore, unable to wait for the forest to regenerate naturally, he and his colleagues proposed a solution to afforestation and received many responses from many localities. In 1994, at the Global Strategy Conference on the Environment in Canada, Prof. Vo Quy made the point that in order to protect forests, there must be community participation, persuading each person to be a ranger. Invite readers to watch the video: The 18-year-old girl in Dien Bien escaped from isolation twice.

The bald eagle is considered the national bird of the United States. Why is it being hunted and killed for its bounty in this very country?
In fact, the bald eagle was the first bird in the world to be considered a national bird – it is considered a national forbidden species of the United States. This bird was officially designated a national bird by the United States Congress in 1782. It was the first country in the world to identify a national bird and followed by many other countries that also declared the bird one after another. symbol of his country.

Bald eagles prefer to live near large bodies of water such as lakes and oceans and in areas with a good supply of food to eat and trees to nest. They are found largely in North America including Canada, northern Mexico, Alaska and the United States. The bald eagle is a North American bird of prey that is one of the rulers of the North American skies. It is about 71 to 96 centimeters long, has a wingspan of 1.68 meters to 2.44 meters, and weighs between 3 and 6.3 kilograms. Those who like the bald eagle will surely be impressed by its wonderful appearance with its yellow eyes, beak, and feet; dark brown plumage and white head. This bird has a majestic and majestic appearance. Unlike other eagles that eat carrion, bald eagles have a very strong hunting ability, they fly in the air, run on land and can swim in water. Everything in its eyes can become prey of this bird. Records show that a bald eagle tried to grab a large brown bear by the nape of the neck, possibly because the opponent’s fur was too thick to “take action” so they had to give up. . Even the subterranean rulers of North America are seen as prey by them, which shows that they are extremely “big” birds and are considered to represent bravery. Therefore, the fact that the bald eagle can become the national banquet of the United States seems to be not difficult to speculate. However, things did not go so smoothly, because Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding members of the United States, considered it simply inappropriate to represent the image of the United States. Franklin believed that the choice of turkey as the national bird was preferable because they were hardy and strong, never surrendered without a fight, and represented the true American spirit. As for the bald eagle, Franklin once said in a letter that it has many bad qualities such as dishonesty and cowardice, even a species that likes to attack other small birds boldly. But it must be said that, although the bald eagle is brave and good at fighting, the selfishness and cruelty of this bird is undeniable. In a nest of young birds, the strongest will try their best to get food, which can cause their siblings to die from malnutrition; When food is scarce, the larger bird will even kill and eat other young birds directly in the nest. Not only that, bald eagles are also openly hostile to humans. They plunder the fisherman’s catch at sea, and on land kill herders’ lambs, even adult sheep. In 1983, the Wilson Gazette recorded a case in which a bald eagle killed a 60-kilogram pregnant sheep. The most unbelievable thing is that there are reports that this eagle even hunts children. Either way, in the past, people in the US have developed a hatred for this bird, and some local governments even offer rewards for hunting bald eagles. Along with the widespread use of the pesticide DDT in the last century, the eggshells of birds have become thinner and more fragile, as have habitat reductions, collisions with power lines, and other reasons. Elsewhere, the number of bald eagles has plummeted. In the 1950s, only 412 of the 48 states of the continental United States remained, of which Alaska killed about 70,000 bald eagles in the first 12 years of the 20th century. After a successful pairing, the bald eagle couple will choose a tall and sturdy tree, they will frame the tree underneath and outside with branches, and then spread thick weeds and other animal feathers to make a nest. . When they have free time, they will do nothing but look at their nest. This nesting behavior lasts for the rest of their lives (about 20 – 30 years), they will constantly repair and as a result their nests get bigger and heavier – becoming the largest bird’s nest on the planet , with an average diameter of about 2.5 meters to 4 meters. Especially with the nests weighing up to 1 ton, it is definitely an extremely luxurious residence among birds. The largest bald eagle nest found to date is near the city of St. Pittsburgh, Florida, 2.9m wide, 6.1m deep and weighs more than 2.7 tons, and obviously it has been included in the Guinness Book of World Records. Of course, not all bald eagle nests are centuries-old and highly durable homes. Due to inappropriate site selection, many nests are often destroyed by storms in less than 5 years, or broken down by branches.

Honoring the ‘heroes’ of wildlife conservation in the period 2010-2020.
Mr. Le Van Hien, born in 1961, in Thanh Son commune, Kim Bang district, Ha Nam province, was recently awarded the title of Conservation Hero by the Disney Conservation Foundation (USA). Notably, in the past, Mr. Hien was a hunter, then he changed his mind and decided to give up this profession, and actively participated in survey and research missions in Kim Bang forest. .

The information and images collected by him are valuable documents to help scientists and experts of FFI discover the world’s second largest population of langurs in Kim Bang forest. After that, Mr. Hien volunteered to join the Community Conservation Team and was appointed as team leader. Thanks to this Community Conservation Team, from 2016-2018, the number of langurs recorded grew from 40 individuals to more than 100 individuals. Stories like Mr. Hien became the inspiration in the Program “Honoring organizations and individuals who have made great contributions to wildlife conservation in the period 2010-2020” in response to the International Day of Biodiversity. (22.5). The period 2010-2020 was declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the “United Nations Decade for Biodiversity”. Photo: vuonquocgiavuquang.vn. The period 2010-2020 has been declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the “United Nations Decade for Biodiversity” in order to achieve a shared commitment of countries to protect more than 8 million species of flora and fauna in the world. threatened to balance life on the planet. “Humanity may never know the precious opportunities of incurable diseases or other beneficial discoveries from nature because many ecosystems are permanently destroyed or soils are polluted. unusable,” said Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, calling on all humanity to protect the biodiversity on Earth. The call comes as biodiversity on Earth is declining at an increasingly faster rate. More than 1 million species are in danger of extinction. Human activities have changed 75% of the land surface and 66% of the ocean area. Vietnam is in the Top 16 countries with the highest biodiversity in the world, but biodiversity is under increasing pressure due to human activities and climate change. It is noteworthy that human activities are increasingly seriously harming the balance of nature. To counter this trend, over the past decade, many individuals, scientists and conservation organizations have worked to protect wildlife with a series of research, new species discovery and initiatives, jointly provide many effective conservation solutions in Vietnam. Some newly discovered species include Euscorpiopsis Cavernicola scorpion (in Ba Be district, Bac Kan province) and Vietbocap thienduongensis scorpion (Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park, Quang Binh province). The new findings not only have scientific significance but also have high practical value because scorpion venom is a potential natural raw material for the current and future pharmaceutical industry. In addition, precious tree species such as Moc Huong (Aristolochia), genus Arachniodes,… are also studied for their phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships to serve practical applications. Through research, many plant species with medicinal and production value are identified and have a reasonable conservation plan. Many organizations and individuals that have made great contributions to wildlife conservation in the period 2010-2020 also recognized many initiatives and solutions, contributing to improving the effectiveness of efforts of all levels, sectors and the whole society. association in species conservation. For example, the breeding solution has successfully preserved the white-crested pheasant – a rare endemic bird of Vietnam. The distribution area of this rare chicken is in Quang Tri province, previously there were almost no birds and animals due to hunting, trapping and illegal wildlife trade. As a result, the population of the wild Lam pheasant decreased sharply, the last individuals were in danger of extinction. In addition, the breeding pairing of white-bellied Cao Cat (located in Section II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora – CITES) has also been successful, serving environmental education. and preserved in the future. Besides breeding solutions to conserve endangered species, other initiatives also focus on saving wildlife. In which, there are volunteer groups that have rescued 100 sea turtles, of which 94 individuals have been released into the sea; or the bear rescue process, bear farming in a semi-wild environment… These efforts contribute to changing people’s awareness of the importance of wildlife in the ecosystem associated with human life. In a recent report, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) said that 90% of Vietnamese people support closing the wildlife trade market; 91% support the closure of restaurants that sell illegal and unregulated wildlife.

Elephants in the Central Highlands. (Photo source: PV/Vietnam+) Wild animals and plants play an important role in maintaining ecological balance, ensuring Ecosystem are complete systems, contributing to the provision of ecosystem services for sustainable development, bringing direct benefits to people. The strengthening of wildlife protection is one of the most important tasks of biodiversity conservation. A clear legal system, behavior change communication, and effective law enforcement are considered to be the three decisive factors for the success of a conservation campaign. VNA introduces a series of 4 articles “Joining hands to protect wildlife in Vietnam.” Lesson 1: Facing a downtrend According to the United Nations Intergovernmental Committee in the Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, the rate at which biodiversity is being degraded is unprecedented in history. One million plant and animal species out of a total of 8 million species on earth are on the verge of extinction. In Vietnam, in recent years, biodiversity resources are continuing to decline. The situation of illegal hunting, killing, slaughtering, transporting, trading, and consuming wild animals is still complicated, leading to an increase in the risk of extinction of many wild animals in the environment. nature, negatively affecting ecological balance, human health and the country’s reputation in the international arena. There is also a risk of disease transmission to humans, livestock and poultry. Biodiversity is reduced mainly due to natural loss, overexploitation, climate change, environmental pollution from the use of pesticides, plastic products… and invasive species. In which, urbanization, deforestation, and agricultural development are the main causes causing nearly 75% of the terrestrial environment to be changed, causing species and ecosystems to decline. The wildlife trade has also created many consequences, wreaking havoc on the environment, severely reducing species populations with 67% of animals worldwide already in decline. High diversity comes with risk extinction increase According to the 6th national report to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Vietnam currently has about 51,400 species of organisms that have been identified, including 7,500 species/microorganism strains, about 20,000 terrestrial and aquatic plant species, 10,900 species of terrestrial animals, 2,000 species of invertebrates and freshwater fish, and 11,000 other marine species. Many species have great value for conservation, contribute to science and affirm the global importance of Vietnam’s biodiversity, such as saola, silver-backed chevrotain, giant gill, Truong Son gill, striped rabbit, etc. Asian elephants, bison, gray cows, tigers, leopards, star deer, primates, sea turtles and freshwater tortoises… The International Bird Conservation Organization has also identified Vietnam as having 63 important bird areas. important. Compared with other countries in Indochina, the fauna of Vietnam is quite rich in species composition and has a high degree of endemism. Of the 21 monkey species found in this region, Vietnam has 15 species, of which 7 are endemic species and subspecies. Of the 49 endemic bird species in the region, Vietnam has 33 species, of which 10 are endemic to Vietnam alone. From 2014-2018, 334 new species were discovered for science including 208 animal species, 136 plant species described and published in prestigious international scientific journals and the Institute’s Journal of Biology Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. According to statistics, the number of species and individuals of Vietnam’s wild species is on a sharp decline, many endangered, precious and rare species are at very high risk of extinction. Like the Ho Guom turtle, there are only 4 known living individuals in the world, including 1 individual in China and 3 individuals in Vietnam. Other large mammals such as elephants, tigers, bears, big cats and pangolins are also threatened with extinction if no resolute and effective protection measures are taken. Sao la – a species endemic to the Truong Son range is also on the verge of extinction. Investigation and monitoring efforts to date have not found any populations of the species in the wild. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List updated in November 2020, the number of threatened species distributed in Vietnam is 745 species, including 64 mammal species, 53 bird species, 70 reptile species, etc. 45 species of amphibians and 96 species of fish. The total number of wild species recorded in the Red Book of Vietnam is 882 species, of which 464 are precious and rare animals (an increase of 108 species within 10 years). There are 116 species that are critically endangered and 6 species that have been converted from different endangered levels to considered extinct, including two-horned rhinoceros, gray bull, tapir, otter civet, lilac crocodile, star deer . The 2016 species inventory proposed to include 1,211 species in the updated Red Book, including 600 species of plants and 611 species of animals. Compared with the 2007 Red Book, the number of threatened and endangered species has increased significantly. Big challenge According to the assessment of the Department of Nature Conservation and Biodiversity (General Department of Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), the conservation of wild animals and plants is facing many challenges and limitations. . The issue of protecting wild species, especially endangered, precious and rare species has not yet been unified in the approach to management and conservation; management regime for species in different categories. Especially in matters of criteria for species identification, the list of endangered, precious and rare species and endangered, precious and rare species are prioritized for protection. An otter belonging to group 1B, imprisoned in an iron cage, is illegally sold by stall owner Yen Tam in Thanh Hoa, Long An province in 2020 for 10 million VND. (Photo: Hung Vo/Vietnam+) Duplicating the list leads to an overlap in management regimes and makes it difficult to apply legal documents as well as handle violations in practice. Specifically, the three-bar box turtle belongs to the list of endangered, precious and rare species prioritized for protection and is not allowed to be traded, but at the same time belongs to group IIB – forest plants and animals that are not yet threatened. extinct, but at risk of being threatened if not strictly managed, limited exploitation and use for commercial purposes. The overexploitation and use of wildlife resources, deforestation, and conversion of forest use purposes also lead to habitat loss of species leading to increasing conflicts between humans and species in the region. nature. Species conservation programs are approved by the authorities, but in practice there are few resources to implement. The demand for illegal and unsustainable consumption of endangered wild species for food, medicine, pets, decoration… still exists. The illegal trade in these species is increasingly sophisticated, organized and complicated, with elements of transnational crime. Law enforcement is still limited and ineffective due to lack of resources, including physical, human and financial facilities. Remuneration regimes and policies for enforcement officers are not commensurate with the high responsibilities and risks when facing this crime. The specialized force’s ability to fight against this type of violation on endangered, precious and rare wild species has not yet kept up with the sophisticated and professional tricks of criminals. Some shortcomings and gaps in legal documents make it difficult to handle violations such as the lack of regulations on handling exhibits. In practice, it may take a lot of time for the investigating agency, the procuracies or the people’s court, the trial panel to make a decision, or it may also take time to get the assessment results when the individuals Live and healthy wild animals need to be treated and immediately released back into the wild, which is very expensive to preserve until the case is heard. Cooperation between enforcement agencies has improved, but there has not been a close coordination mechanism, no guidance on the investigation process after the arrest of wildlife individuals or products, including: including the process of making and transferring dossiers from customs, border guards and forest rangers to the police, assessment agencies, procuracies and courts; handling wild animals and their parts after confiscation. In addition, the awareness of the whole society towards species conservation, biodiversity conservation has been improved, but there are still many limitations. Some parts of the people still have a high demand to use endangered wildlife, leading to increased hunting, trading and consumption. Awareness of all levels and branches has been raised, but not enough and not drastically to contribute to the conservation of endangered, precious and rare species effectively and comprehensively. Deputy Director of the Center for Education for Nature (Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations) Bui Thi Ha said that corruption is also a big obstacle to wildlife law enforcement efforts because there are With the help of a number of corrupt officials, many criminals have been and are blatantly committing crimes without fear of being discovered, arrested, put on trial or facing punishment. prison./.

The study estimates that many bird species in Australia, such as the rainbow parrot, number in the millions. Photo: Guardian. The world has about 50 billion individuals of nearly 10,000 bird species, according to a new study that uses public scientific observations to estimate bird populations. Research published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), led by scientists at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), shows that there are six times as many bird species on the planet as possible. human times. There are four species of birds that researchers call the “billion-person club,” with an estimated population greater than 1 billion individuals. These are house sparrows, European starlings, ring-billed gulls and swallows, found in many parts of the world. The researchers estimated the population of 9,700 species, based on hundreds of millions of bird observations recorded by birdwatchers on eBird, one of a number of community science projects on diversity. The world’s largest biome. They combined records with professional scientific observations to develop an algorithm that estimated the population numbers of most species. The team of scientists found that there are relatively few individuals of common bird species, but a large number of rare species. “They can be rare for natural reasons, as they really only live on one island,” said Associate Professor Will Cornwell, a UNSW ecologist and one of the lead scientists on the study. island or the top of a mountain, or they may be rare due to human causes.” Over time, he said, he hopes the models can chart which species are in decline and where conservation efforts are needed. Many bird species in Australia number into the millions such as the rainbow parrot (19 million individuals), the yellow cockatoo (10 million individuals) and the laughing kingfisher (3.4 million individuals). Mr. Sean Dooley, BirdLife Australia’s public affairs manager, is a longtime bird watcher and a contributor to community science programmes. The paper shows the value that people’s observations can contribute to scientific knowledge, he said. “This is a great first step to trying to discover what we have. It will be important if we can continue to do this over time, as we are witnessing a massive loss of wildlife. Research can help us do what is needed to get close to quantifying what’s going on.” By combining bird-watching records and professional monitoring of birds that are the subject of rigorous academic research, scientists have tweaked some of the things that have not been done, said Associate Professor Cornwell. certainly through public science. The model was then applied to birds that have not been studied professionally, he said. The figure of 50 billion birds represents the model’s average estimate for the total number of bird species worldwide. “The really big breakthrough in this study is that we can take the scientific data and the public science data and then fill in the gap for birds that are not expertly studied by scientists,” said Mr. Cornwell. research industry”. There is still some uncertainty in the figures, said Mr. Cornwell, and the researchers plan to refine the model as more professional studies of more species become available. He also said that the study revealed gaps in information due to the importance of scientific attention to birds in developed regions compared to developing countries of the world, and the need to It is necessary to refine global population estimates for all species. According to him, this also shows the role of public science in those efforts. Scientists will conduct another survey in the next few years.

This special ‘diary’ will make you admire the meticulousness and vividness at the hands of an illustrator living in Devon, England.
Jo Brown is a professional painter from South Devon (UK). She graduated from Falmouth College of Art in 2000 with an Honors degree in Illustration.

One day, while walking in the woods behind her home in Devon, Jo Brown was mesmerized by the sight of a green beetle perched on a leaf. Jo liked it so much that she quickly took a picture of the beetle as a document to bring back to draw. Jo Brown is very interested in exploring nature. As a nature lover, she has a passion for painting, so after the first illustration of a green beetle, Jo continued to work hard to draw more mushrooms, birds, and plants. , the flowers she knew in her home studio in Teignmouth. With just a simple pen and ink, Jo creates vivid drawings of the natural world, from the weeds in her garden to the wild nature of Dartmorr. For Jo, illustrating nature brings her much joy and inspiration. Each page is illustrated with Jo as a diary, in which she records the things she discovers from nature in order based on when she found them. Illustrating nature makes Jo very excited, she thinks that in the vast nature there are many things that are worth exploring, understanding, respecting and remembering. Jo has brought nature down, encapsulated in a diary – Video source: Twitter@bernoid After many efforts, Jo has launched a nature magazine called Secrets of the Devonian Forest at the end of 2020, a collection of illustrations that she miraculously made. With this magazine, Jo wants to bring nature closer to everyone, thereby inspiring people to explore the small things in the natural world around each person. By calming down, patiently observing your own small garden, or on the streets that you often pass by every day, you will encounter the wonders of nature that sometimes because of busy worries. or the noise of the city, we have overlooked those interesting things. Thuy Duong According to many sources

Domestic geese are fatter than natural geese because when domesticated, people have chosen large geese, domestic geese can weigh up to 10kg while wild swan geese are only 3.5kg and or gray geese are 4.1kg. Although stout, domestic geese can basically fly. The earliest records of domesticated geese suggest they were raised for fattening and sacrifice, but in Roman times geese were also bred for eggs and bred for specific traits such as calm personalities. or for beautiful, luxurious fur. It was not until 390 BC that geese were raised to become a guardian animal in Roman life. It is said that once at the temple of the goddess Juno, there was a flock of geese, they were considered sacred animals and no one dared to eat them. In 390 BC, Rome was besieged by the Gauls, and late one night, Gaul soldiers sneaked up the Capitoline hill where the temple of the goddess Juno was to surprise Rome. The dogs raised by the inhabitants of Rome were not alarmed because they were easily bribed with fresh meat. With the exception of the geese, they immediately noticed the unusual disturbance and began to call loudly. Thanks to the cry of the geese, the Roman soldiers were awakened and successfully defended their city. Since this event, the geese are considered heroes, sacred animals, and an annual festival is held – dressed in purple and yellow geese costumes and teasing them. Dogs because of “greed for food” forgot their guard duty. Goose has aggressive behavior Aggressive geese – this behavior is related to their size – a large and clumsy bird. Geese are difficult to hide when threatened, so they will display aggressive and aggressive attitudes to avoid danger. Goose tolerates extreme weather well, even when it snows, it still likes to be outside grooming. The ability to protect themselves well plus preferring to be outside rather than indoors, geese are often raised by farmers with flocks of chickens, ducks and geese to protect themselves. Day vision (nearly blind at night) and hearing of geese are extremely sharp, they can sense movements long before humans realize. While most birds do not respond to things they see in favor of humans, geese are the opposite. It emits a loud and aggressive sound – these are ideal sentinel and protective attributes. Geese are also territorial, they know where their home is and protect it. Not many domesticated birds are territorial, and fewer are aggressive in the face of intruders. Goose is more aggressive during mating season or when it is with “wife” and cubs. The male goose will immediately stretch his neck to its full length, turn his head to look at you with one eye and be ready to attack, no matter who the threat is. The goose’s protective behavior for mates and young remains unchanged from that of its wild ancestors. The goose lives with one mate for life and it is very loyal to its owner, not forgetting the people and other animals it lives with. Geese are not affected by food, no matter how good the food is. Therefore, many farmers in the world prefer to keep geese to guard the house and protect other animals than dogs. Vegetarian goose Unlike chickens and ducks, which prefer insects, crickets and protein-rich foods, geese prefer to eat plants, very voracious but all plants. When combining raising geese with suitable plants, they will eat all the weeds around and absolutely do not touch agricultural products. Goose has a good memory, it remembers people, distinguishes who is who by shape, gestures and voice, it also knows which chicken and dog friends are next to him and remembers situations and surroundings. around. So what is unusual, disturbing even small, strangers appear, they will welcome with cries and aggressive attitude. *In 1986, the US military purchased 750 geese from German farmers to protect their military bases. Or in Dumbarton, Scotland, the famous whiskey company Ballantine used geese to guard during 1959 until 2012 when it was replaced with security cameras. These geese are called “Scotch Watch”.

Over the past 10 years, many conservation initiatives and solutions have contributed to effectively protecting the biodiversity common home. (Photo: Hung Vo / Vietnam +) After more than 6 months of launching, the program “Honoring organizations and individuals with many contributions to the conservation of wild species in the period 2010-2020” by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment The launch is coming to the last stage. It is expected that the ceremony to honor individuals and organizations participating in the program will be held on May 21, 2021, in response to the Day Biodiversity international (May 22). Thousands of species are named According to the representative of Department of Nature Conservation and Biodiversity (Vietnam Environment Administration, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), in the past decade, Vietnam has witnessed many changes in economic, social and conservation life. biodiversity is no exception. Although operating in silence, scientists and conservation organizations have contributed to creating a brilliant decade of biodiversity with a series of research, new species discovery and initiatives and solutions. effective conservation. Especially, right after launching the above honoring program in October 2020, the program has received many records from individuals and organizations working in the field of species conservation. Many animal and plant species have been studied and discovered for the first time for science and published in prestigious international journals. Among thousands of species of animals and plants recognized and recognized internationally, many species of insects, reptiles, amphibians … are classified as critically endangered, and should be prioritized for conservation; Many studies have found endemic species only in Vietnam. Some newly discovered species include scorpion Euscorpiopsis cavernicola (in Ba Be district, Bac Kan province) and scorpion Vietbocap thienduongensis (Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh province). In addition, precious tree species such as Moc Huong (Aristolochia), genus Arachniodes, … have also been studied on phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships for practical application. Through research, many valuable plant species in medicine and production are identified and have reasonable conservation plans. Many outstanding landmarks in conservation Along with species discovery research, the program honors organizations and individuals with many contributions to the work wildlife conservation the 2010-2020 period also recognizes many initiatives and solutions, contributing to improving the efficiency of efforts of all levels, sectors and the society in species conservation. The precious otter who was illegally confined and sold at the farm product disguised as Thanh Hoa, Long An province, was rescued by the competent forces after receiving a report from the reporter of VietnamPlus. Thereby, it contributes to preventing the impact of the quarrying program, protecting the habitat for langurs. As a result, in 2018, the People’s Committee of Quang Binh province has partially planned the forest into a special-use forest to balance conservation and exploitation needs. In addition, some units also made a mark with the initiative of using camera traps to investigate wild species in some key areas or the application of technologies in monitoring and re-release. wild animals and preserve the gifts given to Vietnam by the Creator. Assessing the significance of the program, professor-doctor of science Dang Huy Huynh, ASEAN Biodiversity Hero, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Nature and the Environment said that this is a conservation initiative. of great significance, helping to motivate and encourage the development of the scientific research movement on biodiversity. During the working process, the review board found that the submitted documents were in compliance with the rules, some documents were carefully prepared, showing the enthusiasm for the program. The dossiers are evaluated on the basis of selection criteria in the issued rules./.

Elephants in the Central Highlands. (Photo source: PV / Vietnam +) According to the General Department of Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), the subject of International Day of Biodiversity (22/5) in 2021 was chosen by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity “We are part of the solution.” The theme was chosen to continue the cross-cutting theme of 2020 “Our solutions are available in nature” as a reminder that biodiversity remains an important solution, an option for Sustainable Development . From nature-based solutions to climate issues, health, food security, drinking water and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation on which we can rebuild for the better. Due to the complicated ongoing COVID-19 epidemic around the world, the 2021 International Day of Biodiversity will be commemorated through an online campaign. In a new study published in the Journal of Frontiers in Forest and Global Change (excluding Antarctica), scientists identified only 3% of the world’s land is still ecologically intact, with healthy primitive populations and undisturbed habitat. This number is only for the nature of “approximate estimate.” The study used range maps of 7,000 word species Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Most of the data is from mammals but also includes some birds, fish, plants, reptiles and amphibians. The world is in a biodiversity crisis, many wildlife populations, from lions to insects, are plunging in numbers, mainly due to habitat loss. Some scientists believe that the 6th mass extinction on Earth is beginning and will have serious consequences for food, clean water and air. Vietnam is one of the most important and biodiversity countries in the world, both in terms of marine and terrestrial ecosystems (especially forest and mangrove ecosystems). According to the Vietnam UNESCO Office, 238 priority ecological zones have been recognized around the world, of which 6 are located in Vietnam. Several nature reserves in Vietnam are recognized by UNESCO for their unique universal natural value, including 3 natural heritages, two global geopark, 9 biosphere reserves and two Wetlands are located in two world biosphere reserves. However, Vietnam’s conservation efforts are facing various difficulties and challenges such as: biodiversity degradation trends have become more important due to deforestation and illegal logging. legal, overexploitation, economic growth and population pressure, have enormous impacts on the key services these ecosystems provide. According to the Department Nature conservation and biodiversity (Vietnam Environment Administration), nature-based solutions is a term that can be used to describe alternative and non-traditional approaches to environmental problems such as flooding, water scarcity or soil erosion, by exploiting natural capital. Can Gio mangrove forest. (Photo: Manh Linh / VNA) Solutions could include restoring and conserving coral reefs and mangrove belts to increase resilience to coastal flooding and sea level rise, serving as the first line of defense for dissipation. energy waves and vegetation to reduce the risk of landslides and create green belts to help replenish groundwater in areas facing water scarcity. In response to the International Day of Biodiversity on May 22, 2021, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will honor organizations and individuals who have made many contributions to wildlife conservation in the 2010-2020 period. According to the General Department of Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), the Selection Council is composed of managers from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and other Leading scientists in the field of species conservation such as Professor, Doctor of Science Dang Huy Huynh – Biodiversity Hero of ASEAN. The dossiers to participate in the program honoring organizations and individuals with many contributions to the conservation of wild species are evaluated on the basis of the selected selection criteria. Each profile is consulted by all experts in the council, ensuring transparency and fairness. According to the Selection Council, the discovery of new species, initiatives and solutions for biodiversity conservation is of an important nature. Documents participating in this program show that there are thousands of named wild flora and fauna species, many of which are endemic to Vietnam. Many initiatives and solutions contribute to improving the efficiency of efforts of all levels, sectors and the society in species conservation. Initiatives on reproduction, breeding and successful conservation of rare species, care solutions, propaganda and especially initiatives from volunteer groups to protect species life and inspire those who has been and wants to contribute to this field. Scientists believe that the first time the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has an initiative to organize a program to encourage and encourage the development of the scientific research movement on biodiversity is a meaningful activity taking place. In the context of increasing climate change, the rate of biodiversity degradation of our country and the world tends to increase. It is expected that the Ceremony to honor individuals and organizations participating in the program will be held on May 21, 2021./.

The reason is considered the precious dish serving the ancient kings and royals is because these dishes have ingredients that are difficult to find, not always found in folk.
“Bat pearl” is the common name for 8 dishes for kings and nobles of the old court. The symbolic element for royal cuisine differs from the ordinary place through two factors: rare and sophisticated. All 8 dishes in the “bowl of pearls” guarantee these two things, so not all kings can enjoy all 8.

  1. Public rolls The peacock’s spring rolls are made from the skin and flesh of a peacock. The meat of this species is said to be very nutritious, can help to purify toxins in the body. Another special feature is that people do not cook public meat, but cook it by fermentation with galangal, garlic, pepper … for 3 days. The ancient people called this bird a giant, they live on high hills or dense bamboo forest, so it is difficult to catch. (Photo: Internet) 2. Phoenix ball Cha pho is a dish made from the meat of a bird of the poultry family, usually pheasants. Because this bird has a pretty color and a long tail, people often mistakenly think it is a phoenix. The preparation of this dish is very meticulous, from cutting blood to plucking raw hair without boiling water, wrapping banana leaves to steam and frying with chicken fat … The preparation of this dish is very sophisticated. (Photo: Internet) 3. Rhino skin Ancient rhinoceros are rhino today, to make this dish, ancient people used only skin in the armpit because it was the thinnest skin of this animal. Skin is sun-dried, heated for 100 days, then soaked in alcohol for a month and then dried, stored in a gold or silver box. When you want to process, you must soak in herbal water for 7 days and nights, wash them, then steam them in a water bath, and slice them to eat like spring rolls. 4. Bear’s hand In ancient times, the forelimbs of the bear species were considered to have obtained enough yin-yang from heaven and earth, so they were great, often offered to the king to eat to “increase strength”. Before stewing with herbs and tonics, this part of the limb will be fatized 100 times to clean the hair and soften the meat. Bear hands with the desire to become ‘mighty warrior’. (Photo: Internet) 5. Veil of deer Venison is just a general ingredient, there are many types of processing to turn into delicious food. Deer thighs will initially be stripped and softened, followed by splitting, ribbed tendons. The venison removed soaked in salt water mixed with vinegar to make it white and soft. When processing, people often stew with other nutritious spices. This dish is said to help people eat healthy, not old forever. The dish is believed to help ‘never grow old’. (Photo: Internet) 6. Orangutan lips Catching the dangerous orangutan, the hardship is no less than catching the merits or phoenix. According to old books, skilled hunters have to rely on the behavior of this species to lure them to … get drunk until tired to catch them. The orangutan lips are the most precious part, only for offering the king “chop chopsticks”. (Photo: Internet) 7. Elephant feet In ancient times, elephants were the means of transportation of the king, as well as being powerful “warriors” in the battlefield. So the ancients only made elephant meat when they died. The soft tendon meat below the elephant’s feet is considered the most precious, processed into a delicacy to offer to the king. This is a very effective remedy for tendonitis. (Photo: Internet) 8. Nests Told as “white gold” in the culinary world, Salanganes’Nest is one of the nutritious Vietnamese bowls that can still be found and bought today. Bird’s nest nests are made from the saliva of the bird’s nest when they saliva into a nest on the high cliffs. Photo: Internet

Dogs have 1 million times sharper sense of smell, eagles can see prey from a few kilometers away, leopards can run 110km / h, lizards can run on water …
Running on the water of a lizard

The lizard has the ability to run on the super ‘top’ water The Central American lizard spends most of its time in trees or shrubs watching small insects or vertebrates pass close enough to grab it. But when it is threatened, it can plunge into the water and escape. The reason is that lizards have the ability to walk on water thanks to their skillful “rowing” rear legs with the support of a long tail. This talent for walking on water like doing a circus earned it the nickname “the lizard of Jesus.” Not only that, it is also capable of running on water at speeds of more than 11km / h and diving under water for 30 minutes. Hound’s sense of smell Under the sleeping hound’s sleepy eyes was his super sharp nose. This nose is 1 million times more audible than a human nose. That is why the police used to hunt for missing people or fugitives. A hound’s nose has more than 200 million olfactory cells, so it can store the odor and follow it for days despite the presence of other odors on its way to its target. Thanks to this super-sensitive sense of smell, the hounds become famous “experts” in solving cases in the world. The eagle’s eyesight All birds of prey have sharp eyes. And this is a powerful “weapon” to find food. But eagles have special eyesight above all else. According to calculations by scientists, eagles can see target details at least 8 times better than the most pure human eye. This is due to the fact that the sunshade in each eye blocks sunlight and has a high concentration of cone cells in the vision. As a result, it positioned its prey with incredible accuracy. The eagle can see a hare several kilometers away. That is why they are symbols of sharp eyesight. Find your way in the moonlight of the beetle Scientists have observed that beetles routinely move the dung ball that is many times larger than its body by “planting a banana tree” and using its hind legs to push the ball away. But further research they discovered that this insect also possesses a talent that has never been known in the animal kingdom: navigating paths by moonlight. It can move in a straight line despite obstacles they may encounter along the way. The beetle’s competition for food (other animal droppings) is fierce, so as soon as a colony forms a dung ball, it tries to hide this dung ball to do ” dry wages ”later. The fastest way to escape from another stumbler is the straight path. The miracle is that this species can trace a straight path just thanks to the moonlight. It seems that the insect relied on a pattern created when moonlight interacts with molecules in the air (polarization) to move in a straight line. On days without moonlight, beetles tend to change directions, take a detour to keep them safe and have less trouble. The lion dance Thanks to its incredible power and speed, the leopard leopard is one of the most terrible predators on the planet. But the lion’s leopard high jump and long jump skills are admirable. His muscular hind legs and large claws are designed for a powerful jump. The lion leopard can jump up to 15 meters (50 feet) away and jump up to 6.6 meters, which is quite a big difference compared to humans. It is the advantage of this long jump and high jump skill that makes it easy to catch up with prey even after a long distance. Navigating with the sound of the bat Bats are animals that possess many unique things and have very interesting adaptations. Many species of bats often turn upside down to sleep and live on the blood of other animals. They are also the only flying mammals. But the most impressive feature of the bat is its ability to hunt with echolocation. Accordingly, the bats send high-frequency clicks as they fly, then they hear the oscillation from the echoes bounce back and that indicates the prey position is not far away. With this system, they can catch and eat about 1000 insects per night. The ability of sharks to receive electricity Sharks are one of the most successfully evolved animals on earth. Thanks to the diversity of adaptations, sharks have many advantages in the wild. One of these adaptations is the ability to receive electromagnetic waves, making the electrical impulses in the shark’s body extremely sharp. As the prey swims, this movement sends tiny electromagnetic signals through the water. Sharks receive these signals as the water travels through the jelly-filled pores of the head. Connected to the internal compost, signal reception allows the sharks to find prey quickly and they can kill the prey with great precision even in cloudy water. This hearing organ also makes it possible for sharks to detect the smell of prey blood, even a drop, from miles away. Swimming speed of squid and octopus Squid and octopus are the fastest invertebrates in the ocean. This is in part due to the body’s extraordinary ability to use jet boosts. When water flows into their outer cavity, it is held under pressure and the mouth closes. As the muscles of the wall contract and press, pressurize the full water back through the cartridge and allow it to run at a speed of 40 km / h. These cephalopods can also control the direction and speed of movement, allowing them to escape from a threat or to quickly advance to prey they want. The magic wings of hummingbirds Not only are the hummingbirds one of the most beautiful birds on earth, hummingbirds are also the most impressive flying birds. The joints between the upper and lower wings are located very close to the body so they are agile and have a surprisingly leveraging effect in the air. Hummingbirds flap their wings at a frightening speed-80 times per second. They are also the only birds capable of flying forwards, backwards, upwards and downwards. Hummingbirds can float in the air, which makes it easier for them to absorb nectar while in flight. The running speed of the leopard At a speed of 110 km / h, the leopard is the fastest running animal on the planet. This is thanks to the long limbs, small head, and slim body, the spines will curl and stretch with each stride, helping to push the body forward faster. Thanks to this movement that it has increased speed more than 30 km / h. But the surprising thing is that this species can not speed fast for more than 10-15 seconds, longer it will cause their body to overheat. This is also understandable because leopards mainly live in deserts and steppes where there is very little chance of hiding in the shade.

Unique hair print a whole colorful flower garden Alexis Ferrer, a hair stylist in Barcelona, Spain has spent years developing a beauty technique that allows him to print colorful flowers on human hair. You may have admired layered haircut, highlighting many colors, but hair with many floral motifs like a garden with enough eyebrows must be rare. Alexis Ferrer tested hair printing in 2012 after the Wella Professionals hair care brand commissioned a collection for that year’s international trends trends competition. The aim was to innovate with a technique that is not often used in hairdressing, and printing textures on the hair seems to be a perfect way to visually tell stories. Alexis Ferrer’s first attempt attracted much attention in the fashion world and since then he has focused on improving the technique of hair printing. In 2017, at Barcelona Fashion Week 080, Spanish hairdresser collaborated with designer Txell Miras to create collections inspired by shipping containers and fishermen. Alexis Ferrer prints portraits of fishermen on his hair, which is the first time appearing in the world of hairstylists. At the beginning of this year, Alexis Ferrer, introduced the latest version in hair printing technique. He can create colorful, vivid designs printed on human hair. Of course, Alexis Ferrer does not reveal the final product creation process, he simply describes it as “a combination of handcrafted style with technology”. “It took two months to get results in high definition,” says Alexis Ferrer. The blended technology with knowledge of craftsmanship allows us to recreate amazing patterns in our hair. His latest collection of printed hair designs is La Favorite, inspired by “the finest fabrics for French bourgeois eighteenth century”, featuring many Baroque-style motifs such as peony, butterfly. and colorful birds. Currently, hair printing is not yet on the market as a commercial service but it is certainly in the future, it will be proof of innovation in hairstylist technology and fashion.

The bodies of these species can produce natural anticoagulants, which help them stay frozen even at temperatures below 0 ° C.

Red tree bark flattened beetle

This beetle about half an inch long has a habitat from North Carolina to the Arctic Circle. They live under the bark of a tree and their bodies are purposefully designed to survive the harshest conditions in mid-winter.

The arctic climate in August acts like the resting climate for this species. In laboratories, they can withstand freezing temperatures up to -150 degrees Celsius.

In fact, this is the coldest we’ve ever seen. They can overcome this extreme cold by forcing 30-40% less water in the body and preserving the remaining water by using antifreeze proteins between the cell membranes.

Thyme beef

Muskrats have lived in the Arctic for a long time, from the ice age about 200,000 years ago. With double-layer coat, the first layer is a thick dark gray outer coat that reaches the ground long and the inner undercoat gives them very good resistance to cold to temperatures down to minus 40 degrees. , to withstand the rigors of the Arctic.

Muskrats live in herds from 12-24 in winter and 8-20 in summer. During the summer, musk cows live in humid areas, such as deep valleys, and move up into higher mountainous regions in winter. Their food includes arctic willow grass, lichen and moss under the snow. Thyme is raised for meat, milk and feathers. Currently this species is protected, so the number is kept at a stable level.

Great Greenland shark

The Greenland giant sharks live in deep waters in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions, and these giant sharks not only survive in the cold water, but also have the longest lifespan of any species. are there any vertebrae on the planet – an average of 300 to 500 years old.

Greenland giant sharks have an extremely slow metabolic rate that helps control temperature and prolong life, and they are also the largest shark, can reach 6.4m in length and weigh about 1,000kg . Therefore, this shark is also very slow, often only hunting prey that has gone to sleep.

The price for a 500-year-old shark’s longevity is also not small. Specifically, it not only swim very slowly, difficult to find food, but the body also contains many parasites. Sometimes it even has to eat scavengers to relieve its hunger.

Besides, scientists are also hoping, the study of 500-year-old shark’s DNA could open a way to longevity for humans.

Before that, indigenous people in Greenland and Iceland used to believe in increasing longevity by eating Greenland shark meat.

Greenland shark meat is considered a specialty in Iceland, although toxic if not handled properly.

Snow Sheathbill

The snow Sheathbill is a brave, white, dove-like bird; This is the only native bird that lives on the surface of Antarctica and is the only species to breed here.

With their thick fur to help keep them warm, they live mostly on the ground, trying to pick up other birds’ scattered food scraps. They are also the only birds in Antarctica that do not have membranes.

So how can the snowy Sheathbill keep his toes warm while spending so much time on frozen ground? The secret lies in their life-long “bounce hobby”, they spend a lot of time hopping from leg to foot in order to reduce the coldness from the surface of the ice and snow. Furthermore, Snow Sheathbills also possess an extremely thick, fine coat that helps them retain heat well.

Weddell seals

If you are looking for a mammal that loves a few dozen degrees of negative cold every minute, then you will definitely love the Weddel seal.

They are the farthest Antarctic species of any kind, and spend most of their time living underneath the Antarctic ice, where they can hunt and avoid being caught by killer whales.

With the ability to dive deep to a depth of more than 600 meters, Weddell seals can stay underwater for up to 45 minutes and if they cannot break the ice to get the oxygen they need, they use their teeth to dig a hole. take the gas.

Antarctic seawater is actually warmer than surface air (which can drop to -70 degrees Celsius), so especially during intense winter storms, seals will stay warm by diving into the ocean. .

The arctic soil squirrel

If the current epidemic in the world makes you want to hibernate, you can consider the Arctic ground squirrel as an example.

Living in the arctic tundra in North America, where temperatures can drop below -63 degrees C in winter, they can escape the coldest winter by burrowing underground and sleeping for as long as eight. the month of the year.

When hibernation, the temperature in the brains of these squirrels can drop to just above freezing, while the body temperature can drop to -2.9 degrees C and the heart rate drops to just one beat per beat. minute. When the hibernation time is over, the squirrels need about three hours to warm up the body again.

This ability of arctic ground squirrels is due to them being able to cut off nerve connections and synapses to hibernate, then reconnect them immediately after awakening and warming the body, almost 2 – Every 3 weeks during winter.

In addition to its sublime cold tolerance, the arctic ground squirrel is also famous for its ability to fast for 8 months. The arctic ground squirrel body has the ability to recycle its own nutrients during hibernation for many months.

The US Navy tested its ability to navigate at sea using astronomical positioning, instead of relying on GPS, in preparation for the scenario of the system being attacked by adversaries.

There is a copy of the book “The American Practical Navigator” by Nathaniel Bowditch, first published in 1802 on each of the US Navy ships.

This is considered an encyclopedia about navigation, filled with data on the longitude and latitude of many places, from Bugio lighthouse in Lisbon, Portugal, to Kannonzaki lighthouse in Yokosuka, Japan.

The book provides detailed instructions on how to use a hexagonal glass to measure a ship’s current position by observing the Sun, Moon, stars, and horizon. However, the presence of this book on board is only a ritual, as the US Navy has long been accustomed to using electronic charts based on GPS, Nikkei Asia said.

But the threat of electronic warfare from rivals like China, forcing the US Navy to consider the possibility of reusing the supposedly outdated navigation system, in preparation for the GPS system scenario prepares the enemy. disable.

Combining ancient and modern

In August 2020, the USS Patriot, an Avenger-class minesweeper of the US Navy stationed at the port of Sasebo, Japan, crossed a distance of 1,700 km into the western seas solely by astronomical positioning.

A pilot is using the hexagonal glass to calculate the ship’s position in the Pacific. Photo: US Navy.

Every afternoon, sailors would take a hexagonal glass, a centuries-old measuring instrument, to measure the angle of the Sun at its highest point in the day. The data will be fed into a computer program called the astronomical estimation system of latitude and longitude, also known as STELIA.

Sailors also observed the angular distances between the horizon and the Moon, the planets and the stars to calculate longitude and latitude. On the command tower, a navigation team consisting of the captain, subordinate officer and the pilot uses manual measurement data to control the ship.

Astronomical navigation has disappeared from the US Naval Academy curriculum since 2006, because it was deemed obsolete. But since 2015, the technique has been reintroduced into the program, to teach students how to measure and apply math to locate.

The re-teaching of astronomical navigation has been prompted by the acknowledgment that the US armed forces are increasingly dependent on digital systems. An attack on the GPS system that the US military is relying on, could limit the capabilities of the world’s most powerful military.

This concern becomes even more urgent as China invests heavily in electronic warfare and cyberspace.

Peter Singer, an expert at the Center for New Security of America, said the battle to kick off the next big war will take place in silence. In other words, it’s the war in cyberspace.

If digital communication was to be attacked, the US Navy would have to rely on the natural world, ears and eyes to survive, which is the reason for the return of the hexagonal glasses.

Learn how to position birds

Mr. Singer said that in addition to the astronomical navigation system dating back to the 18th century, the US should study another smarter navigation system for navigating ships, or guided missiles without relying on GPS. , similar to how birds migrate annually.

One sailor is working on calculating longitude and latitude based on Bowditch’s book. Photo: US Navy.

“The way they (the birds) move is not memorizing, it’s how they perceive Earth’s magnetic field. Some insects can do this too, so in-depth research is needed to develop a digital version of how birds move, ”says Singer.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) is pursuing the Adaptive Navigation System project, a navigation technique that can work in buildings, under dense canopy, under water and ground. This system is said to be superior to GPS.

In February, a team of scientists released a report stating that birds may have global GPS systems.

“The precise navigation of these little birds is amazing, as they move alone across the sea, across the vast desert and through extreme weather conditions is one of the long-standing mysteries. behavioral biology “, a British scientist wrote on the World Economic Forum.

This may be the answer the US military is looking for in its defense mission against electronic warfare operations by China and other adversaries.

Billy Fabian, senior analyst at data analytics firm Govini, said preparing for the scenario of digital communication disruption is crucial, given the potential confrontation with China.

The starry sky illuminated the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan as it passed through the Luzon Strait. Photo: US Navy

Specifically, at noon, sailors will take a hexagonal glass – a positioning tool that has existed for centuries – to measure the angle of the Sun at its highest point in the day. The data will be fed into a computer program called the Astronomical Latitude and Longitude Estimation System, or STELLA. They also observed the angular distances between the horizon and the Moon, the planets and the stars to calculate latitude and longitude.

On the jetty, a crew consisting of the captain, subordinate officers and the pilot used the above data to control the ship night and day.

The return of astronomical navigation

The Nikkei Asia Financial Times reported that astronomical navigation, or space travel navigation, disappeared from the US Naval Academy curriculum in 2006 because it was deemed obsolete. But in 2015, the school reintroduced this technique as well as sent students to a planetarium to teach how to measure and apply mathematics.

An officer on board the guided missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay uses a positioning device to measure the ship’s position in the Pacific. Photo: US Navy

The return to this method of positioning was prompted by the realization that if the US armed forces increasingly relied on digital communications, a blow to the Global Positioning System. (GPS) – on which this communications system relies on – could make it difficult for the army considered to be the most powerful in the world. That concern is growing in the face of China’s increased electronic and cyber-warfare capabilities.

Peter Singer, strategist at consulting firm New America and author of “Ghost Fleet: A Novel of Next World War” (roughly translated: Ghost Fleet: Novel of the Next World War) commented: “Battle The opening battle of the next great war will take place in silence ”.

According to him, this battle will not be the same as the battle of Pearl Harbor that dragged the United States into the war with Japan in 1941, nor the horrifying battle that opened to the Iraq War in 2003. “It may even have been and is already happening.” Because, in cyberspace, enemy moves still happen weeks, months or years before the outbreak of war.

If digital communications were to be removed, the US Navy would return to the natural world, relying on eyes and ears to survive. Therefore, a return of the hexagonal glass is imperative. But the strategist Singer believes that there are still two other options than this 18th-century utensil.

One is to build a more flexible communications network and improve network security to help the military combat any GPS-related challenges. Second is the development of highly intelligent systems that do not require GPS.

“For example, there is research showing that rockets can fly by navigating against a magnetic field,” says Singer. He equates this with the ability of birds to migrate as they travel thousands of kilometers to reach almost exactly one destination every year.

Answering Nikkei Asia, he explained: “It is not because they remember the way. That’s how they perceive the Earth’s magnetic field. The same goes for insects. So there has been high-tech research on developing digital versions of the way birds and insects navigate.

“Learn” from birds

The Department of Defense Senior Research Projects Administration (DARPA) is pursuing the so-called Adaptive Navigation System. This GPS-equivalent method of positioning, navigation, and time will work even in poorly wave places such as inside buildings, in canyons, in dense woods, underwater and underground. .

In February, a group of scientists including Professor Richard Holland at Bangor University and professor Dmitry Kishkinev at Keele University published a report indicating that birds can possess a “global GPS system. “.

Scientists believe that birds possess a global “GPS system”. Photo: Reuters

“The amazingly precise navigation of these little birds – as they travel alone over stormy seas, across vast deserts, and through extreme weather and temperature extremes – has been one of the the enduring mysteries of biology, ”wrote British scientists for the World Economic Forum.

“An evidence-gathering agency has shown that the Earth’s magnetic field is one of the most likely theories for this mystery. It is thought that the different parameters of the Earth’s magnetic field could form a network of maps that birds will fly with, ”they said.

“If birds know that magnetic field strength increases as they go north, they will be able to detect their position on the North-South axis wherever they go,” the report said. said the report. This means that the birds are essentially navigating using a system similar to Cartesian coordinates – the basis of modern GPS navigation.

Nikkei Asia asked Holland if anything from bird navigation could be used in the military. “In theory, the Earth’s magnetic field could be used as a positioning system,” he said. However, he warned: “It is not clear whether this system can be used on a global scale as GPS could, since there are several locations on Earth that share the same characteristics. magnetism”.

However, this could be the answer the US military is looking for in its mission to protect against electronic warfare by China or other countries.

Billy Fabian, an expert at data and analysis firm Govini and a senior colleague at the Center for New American Security, says it’s important to prepare for the scenario where communications are disrupted. when considering the nature of a potential war with China.

“A future conflict between the US and China will be different from past conflicts in two respects,” he said. One, every sector will be highly competitive, and that’s different from what we’re used to. Second, we will be under enormous time pressure. Most of the places that you can imagine we will fight in the future are in the backyard of China, but one ocean away from the American continent.

The US military is also practicing the concept called “mission command”. Accordingly, the commanders at the front lines are empowered to plan, coordinate and execute decisions without having to ask for instructions from their superiors. In this way, small units can continue to operate even when communication is interrupted.
