The ancient amulet has just been presented to the Israel Antiquities Authority. A bronze amulet engraved with God’s name and magical symbols for protection from evil spirits and the “evil eye” curse has been turned over to authorities after being unearthed in northern Israel 40 years ago. before. According to the IAA , the amulet once worn on a necklace is believed to date to about 1,500 years ago during the Byzantine period . At that time, the region was ruled by the Eastern Roman Empire, also known as the Byzantine Empire after Byzantium, the old name of the city in which it was based (later Byzantium was renamed Constantinople and now It’s Istanbul now.) Although the amulet is engraved with Greek letters, they spell the Jewish name IAW, a form of the name “Yahweh” in the English alphabet. This bronze amulet, about eight centimeters long and four centimeters wide, was found near the site of an ancient synagogue at Arbel, just west of the Sea of Galilee. Eitan Klein, an archaeologist with the IAA, said the location and inscriptions suggest that the amulet may have been worn by a Jewish, not necessarily Christian, regardless of its origin. its religion, “Although scholars often identify wearers of such amulets as Christians, the fact that the amulet was found in a Jewish settlement that had a synagogue in the fifth and sixth centuries A.D. might indicate that even the Jews of that period wore amulets of this kind to protect against the evil eye and the devil,” says Klein. Devil’s Eye This type of charm was relatively common at that time in Galilee and what is now Lebanon; They are sometimes known as a form of the “Seal of Solomon”, named after the legendary king of Israel. One side of this amulet features a galloping horseman with a halo on his head, thrusting a spear into a woman lying on her back. A Greek inscription carved above the rider’s head reads “The Only God Who Conquers Evil” and God’s name in Greek letters – IAW – is engraved underneath the horse’s feet. The other side depicts an eye pierced by an arrow and an object split in half. The eye appears to be threatened by two lions, a snake, a scorpion, and a bird below it, and a Greek letter abbreviation meaning “One Lord” engraved above it. above it. The amulet was probably made to protect people against evil spirits and a magical curse known as the evil eye, a long-held belief throughout the ancient world at least as far back as the sixth century. B.C. According to this belief, some magicians are said to be able to lift the curse with a malicious look, while those who receive it will be injured or have misfortune. “The equestrian is depicted conquering evil spirits, in this case a woman identified with the Greek mythological figure of Gello or Gyllou, who threatens women and children,” Klein said. and is related to the evil eye,” Klein said. “The eye on the back is identifiable as a demon eye that is attacked and destroyed in various ways. Therefore, the amulet was probably used to protect women and children.” A family member of the finder, now deceased, recently turned over the amulet to the Israel Antiquities Authority, and Klein encourages those with similar treasures to do the same. The amulet is believed to date back to the late Talmudic period in Jewish history, when traditional Jewish theology and law were formalized in a collection of written works known as the Talmud. The synagogue in Arbel is often mentioned in historical sources from Talmudic times, Klein said; where there was a linen manufacturing industry, and many Jewish sages visited or taught there.

The mysterious crosses carved into one of the walls of the stairs leading down to the Chapel of Saint Helena at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem may not be what they imagined, a new study suggests.

Crosses on the wall at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Holy Land of Jerusalem. Until now, religious scholars believe that medieval pilgrims traveling to this sacred site carved images of crosses on the walls. But new research has shown that only a handful of people, be they masons or artisans, carved these crosses on behalf of pilgrims, who may have kept the dust from carved as a sacred keepsake. Some crosses date from the 14th or 15th centuries, hundreds of years after the Crusades in the Holy Land (1096-1291), suggesting that post-medieval pilgrims may have made the trees. Cross. “During our research, we scrutinized, analyzed every millimeter inside the crosses – their depth, their width, even the hands of the people who carved them,” said the project leader. Project Amit Re’em, Jerusalem regional archaeologist with the Israel Antiquities Authority said. The team found that it was one person, or several, responsible for making these crosses, not the hundreds and thousands of pilgrims who visited the church. Re’em got the idea for research while visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The church was built in the 4th century, when Saint Helena, mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, traveled to Jerusalem, and according to legend, helped discover the place where Jesus was crucified, burial and resurrection. Constantine had a basilica built there, and it was later called the Church of the Tomb. Together with colleagues Moshe Caine and Doron Altaratz, professor and senior lecturer, in the Department of Photographic Communication at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem, the team used three photographic techniques to record the shape of the crosses: photogrammetry, reflectance-conversion imaging (RTI) and gigapixel imaging. For the optical measurement, the team took between 50 and 500 images of each subject, with each image at a different angle, and then used software to create a digital 3D image based on the triangulation of all The pictures. Meanwhile, with gigapixel photography, which is similar to zooming in from the whole world to a close-up street view on Google Maps, the team took multiple photos of the carved surfaces. All of these techniques help Re’em investigate the similarities and differences, including the chisel technique, of each carved cross. Furthermore, when the researchers took pictures of the crosses, they noticed inscriptions of names and dates engraved along them. “We found that the crosses were carved around the inscriptions, which means that the crosses date to or slightly later than the inscriptions,” Re’em said. After reading about the research being done in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz recently, William Purkis, a reader of medieval history at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, contacted Re’em. Purkis said he shares the same thoughts with Israeli researchers on the findings that these crosses were made by only a few experts. It is possible that the pilgrims paid a stone mason or an artist to carve a cross for them in the church, and then saved the dust as a sacred keepsake, Purkis said. In the Middle Ages, pilgrims were known to carry small lead vessels filled with souvenirs of the Holy Land, such as water from the Jordan River. Two of these medieval vases are in museums – the Cleveland Museum of Art and the British Museum.

Ancient and poetic cities of Saint Petersburg, Sochi and Crimea during the student’s trip to Russia.
Nguyen Tran Kien (1996) majored in Nuclear Power at Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia. After more than 6 years of studying, before graduating and returning to Vietnam, Kien decided to make a trip through 3 cities of Saint Petersburg, Sochi and Crimea to record student memories.

“There are many reasons why I made the trip, because of its convenient geographical location and reasonable cost, but importantly, after graduation, there will be less opportunity to return to this beautiful land,” Kien shared. . Tran Kien made the trip to keep memories of his student days in Russia. The Ancient Capital of the North – Saint Petersburg Saint Petersburg is the second largest city in terms of economy, culture and science of Russia. This place is also known as the Northern capital of the birch country. This city is where Kien has lived and studied for the past 6 years. “The dormitory where I live is only a 5-minute walk from the Akademicheskaya subway station, so it is very convenient to move to points in the city,” Kien said. Sights: Saint Isaac’s Church, Statue of Pie the Great, Winter Palace, Our Lady of Kazan Church, Peter & Paul Fort Church and Rabbit Island… Church of Saint Isaac From Akademicheskaya I moved to Admiralteyskaya wharf. Travel time between 2 subway stations is about 30 minutes. From the pier, it takes about 10 minutes to walk to St. Isaac’s church, you can’t help but be overwhelmed by the magnificent historical architecture. This place is an ideal place when coming to Saint Petersburg, especially for those who love to explore art. Not only can you visit the inside of the church, you can also set foot on the detour around the giant dome to admire the whole scene of the ancient city. Monument to Peter I I continued walking for about 10 minutes to get to the Monument of Peter I, which is considered one of the symbols of the city of Saint Petersburg. The statue is made of green bronze material, so it is also known as the “Green Bronze Horseman” statue. View of the street and some symbols of the city of Saint Petersburg. Winter Palace From the monument, walk along the banks of the Neva River about 15 minutes to the Winter Palace. Located on the Neva River, this is the most famous architectural work of the city of Saint Petersburg. Palace with rooms decorated lavishly, splendidly with many famous works of art. Church of Our Lady of Kazan The next day, I took the subway to Gostiny Dvor station, then walked along Nevsky Avenue to visit the Church of Our Lady of Kazan. Located in the heart of the city center of Saint Petersburg on the famous Nevsky Street, the Church of Our Lady of Kazan is the symbol of Russia. I was really impressed by the unique and delicate architectural style of the church. Peter & Paul Fortress Church The next day I went to Admiralteyskaya Wharf, walked around the street corners, looked at the beautiful Neva River and visited the Peter & Paul fortress church on Rabbit Island. Inside the fortress grounds are the galleries of the St. Petersburg. Ancient city with iconic architecture of Russia. Sochi and the romantic Crimea Olympic City – Sochi Sochi is a city in the Krasnodar region, located just north of Russia’s border with the republic of Abkhazia on the Black Sea coast. This is considered the largest resort city of Russia. Sochi became more known to the world in 2007, when it was selected to host the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. My first impression when coming to Sochi is that the atmosphere is very pleasant. Sochi has enough qualities to become an attractive destination on the world tourism map from nature, climate to people. The forests, the beach, the high blue sky, the snow-covered hills and the busy streets at night give the city its very own beauty. This is the right place for adventure game lovers. I traveled by taxi along the mountain road, looking from the top of the hill down to the vast space, the majestic forest and the cold winds blowing incessantly made me overwhelmed. There are many thrilling games for visitors such as bungee jumping, Sochi swing, zipline… Sochi is Russia’s largest and busiest summer seaside tourist city. Crimean peninsula Crimea is a large peninsula in Europe located between the Seas of Azov and the Black Sea, connected to the mainland of Ukraine by the Isthmus of Perekop. Having just arrived at the airport, I had to buy a new phone SIM to be able to connect to the internet. Although Crimea is part of Russia, a separate sim must be used here and private taxi services are only available locally. The network here is quite weak, the taxi service is not good, it is difficult to book a trip, so the travel is quite tiring. In return, here has a cool climate, beautiful natural scenery, mountains running along the coast create a feeling of peace and lightness. The first day in Crimea, I went to the castle of the Swallow’s Nest, built on top of a cliff reaching out to the sea, creating a majestic and romantic landscape. On the second day, I went to Vorontsov castle – one of the oldest and largest royal castles of Crimea, located in the town of Alupka. The building was built by Prince Mikhail Vorontsov in 1828-1848 as a personal guesthouse. On the 3rd day, I booked an apartment in Cape Fiolent to enjoy the unique natural landscape on the Black Sea coast, then visited the heart lake. The lake, formed in the Kadykovsky quarry in Balaklava, is one of the most interesting and beautiful places in Crimea. This landmark is famous for its interesting heart shape and turquoise water. On the last day of the trip, I got up early to walk on the beach in Cape Fiolent, then took a taxi to the center of Sevastopol, to visit the iconic Shipwreck – one of the most famous monuments here.

The Cathedral of Hanoi, or St. Joseph Cathedral, was designed in the European Gothic style, influenced by the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris (France). The main building materials are terracotta bricks, terracotta roof tiles, walls plastered with mache. The church has a length of 64.5m, a width of 20.5m and two bell towers 31.5m high. The building has an opposite facade layout, divided into 3 parts. Two sides are two soaring bell towers, in the middle is a lower block that is terminated by a triangular wall top with a crucifix forming the highlight. Most of the doors and windows on the main façade use the typical Gothic arched form. Particularly in the middle part there is a round flower-shaped window, above and below the cross there is a round clock face. According to the percentile and the door system on the façade, the two bell tower blocks on both sides are 5 floors high and the middle block is 3 floors high. The window and door decorations on the façade are in the form of Gothique but are moderate, not too fussy or cumbersome. Over 100 years with the vicissitudes of time and war, the Cathedral still exists and is a center of Catholic activity in the capital and surrounding areas. Currently, the Cathedral is being renovated and repainted. Most of the renovation work has been completed, the walls inside and behind the Cathedral have been repainted. As for the facade of the work, currently scaffolding and safety nets are being erected for the workers to work. In general, the building has the European Gothic style, but has a combination with indigenous architecture, reflected in the terracotta tile roof system, the interior decoration system with bold Vietnamese traditions. And therefore, it is a product of the very unique East-West cultural exchange. The work is considered a typical church architecture, and is one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in Hanoi and the whole country. The Cathedral is also a work marking a special stage of urban development of Hanoi and is a typical architecture of the capital. The inner wall of the Cathedral has been repainted with a new color, bringing the main gray tone. Originally, the church was named “Saint Joseph Cathedral” (Saint Joseph is the adoptive father of Jesus). Currently, the project is located at 40 Nha Chung Street, Hanoi, adjacent to the Archbishop of Hanoi and many other Catholic institutions. The two church bell towers have a set of bells consisting of 5 bells, with 1 large bell and 4 small ones, which are connected to the clock to tell the time. In front of the church, there is a small square with a statue of Our Lady, which adds to the landscape value of the building. The new church building on the old pagoda was built by the Catholic Church with bricks to replace the old wooden architecture, between 1884-1886, in the context of Hanoi’s transformation into a new western-style urban area. West. The building was inaugurated at Christmas 1887.

Mocameta Monastery. Cuisine The people of Imereti are surprisingly hospitable and Imereti’s cuisine is also incredibly delicious. Walnut dishes are very popular here, herbs are also used a lot to prepare food. The traditional Khachapuri cheese cake from the Imereti region is famous throughout Georgia. In addition, one of the popular highlights here is fried chicken dipped in juice from blackberries and unripe grapes called Isrimakvali. The Imereti name is also known in the winemaking industry. Due to the diversity of climatic and soil conditions, Imereti is able to grow a wide variety of grapes, making the wine here the richest flavor of Georgia. Main attractions Jewish Quarter is a must-visit for history lovers. The largest synagogue here was built in 1866, can accommodate 500 members. The magnificent Bagrati and Gelati churches such as the Bagrati Cathedral and the Gelati Monastery were recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage in 1994. Motsameta Monastery, located 6km from the city of Kutaisi, built in the 11th century also attracts a lot of tourists with an ancient belief: If a person crawls three times under a crate and makes a wish while touching mascot, wishes will come true. Museum system is also a favorite destination. These include: Kutaisi Historical Museum was established in 1912 with more than 200,000 artifacts; Vani Archaeological Museum, home to unique works created by ancient jewelers discovered in the town of Vani … Sataplia Nature Reserve is located 6km northwest of Kutaisi. Here, you can find preserved dinosaur footprints and a beautiful cave complex filled with stalactites and stalagmites. There is a museum, a glass walkway, and a spectacular natural view on the grounds of the reserve. Also, do not miss the tour of Prometheus – one of the most famous destinations in the area – to admire the wonder made up of stalactites, or to the Okatse gorge with its majestic natural scenery. ..

Photo: Bui Quyet. Share with Zing Ms. Hoang Thi Vuong, Head of the Sa Pa Information and Culture Office (Lao Cai), said that on April 24 alone, the town welcomed about 14,800 visitors. This number approximates the number of visitors coming to the town during the New Year holidays. “Sa Pa’s tourism signal began to warm again 2 weeks ago. From the Mau Thuong Temple Festival (April 9-14) to the present, the number of visitors coming to Sa Pa is quite even. room rate up to 98% “. Fansipan Legend Tourist Area (Sa Pa) also recorded a large number of visitors during this weekend. The tourist attraction said the number of visitors increased by 77% over the previous week. Currently, the resort is applying the cable car ticket discount program until the end of April 26. Ms. Phuong Thao waited for nearly 2 hours to get on the Fansipan cable car. Photo: Phuong Thao. Ms. Phuong Thao (Lao Cai) said: “Yesterday I had to wait nearly 2 hours to get on the cable car. Although crowded, everyone lined up one after another, so we did not have to jostle, it only took time to wait at the station long”. In April. The People’s Committee of Lao Cai province launched a tourism stimulus program called “Flavors of Lao Cai”, attracting more than 100 businesses in the area to participate. Accordingly, many attractions, accommodation services, food and drink discounts from 10 to 70%. The participating units are committed to reducing prices, not changing the quality of product services. The large number of visitors also brought about problems with Covid-19 epidemic prevention in this locality. Mr. Vuong Trinh Quoc, Chairman of Sa Pa Town People’s Committee, shared with Zing : “The epidemic prevention in the town is always appreciated. Currently, the town is promoting propaganda, reminding residents and visitors through the local radio system, reality inspection team. Most tourists and people actively prevent epidemics. Besides, there are still some people who do not wear masks in public. The town will continue to remind and consider administrative sanctions for individuals who do not comply with the Covid-19 epidemic prevention regulations “. The representative of the People’s Committee of Sa Pa town also said that the locality had received 500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Sa Pa people were vaccinated for the first round from April 22.

Kon Tum Cathedral Wooden Church was built entirely of Ca chit wood (red chili) Coming to Kon Tum Cathedral Wooden Church, visitors always feel peace and serenity. In the first few months of 2021, it had to be closed, minimizing people to visit and attend Mass because of COVID-19 translation, so far the church has reopened. Inside the Wooden Church of Kon Tum A Den, representative of the Church, said that Kon Tum Diocese is the most special in the Central Highlands because of all ethnic people. “There are nearly 12,000 parishioners, living in 10 villages, mainly Ba Na people. Most of them do farming and farming. They do not know how to do business or trade. Previously, in the church, there were open schools that taught both culture (teaching Ba Na) and career orientation. Now, since kindergarten, they can learn Vietnamese, so all children can go to outside public schools ”, said teacher A Den. According to the church representative, the Cathedral Parish prescribes that each month there is a baptism for the children on the first Monday of the month, with the number of about 30 children or more / time. In addition, Saturday afternoon and all Sunday are still served at Mass. “Due to the influence of the COVID-19 epidemic, in 2020 and the outbreak from the end of January 2021 in Gia Lai, the Orthodox Parish minimizes the admission of visitors. Particularly, after the outbreak in Gia Lai, the church closed and did not receive guests. The parish stipulates that people go to Mass with only 30 people or less, maximum 50 people on Sunday, strictly abide by the epidemic prevention measures of the Ministry of Health such as hand washing and antiseptic on arrival. gate, measuring body temperature, wearing a medical mask, sitting at a distance of 2-3m in the church “, said teacher A Den and said that at present he still reminds people to be cautious about the complicated developments of the epidemic in India. Degrees and neighboring countries. According to A Den, Kon Tum Cathedral was designed and initiated by a French priest, built in 1913, completed in 1918 and today. In the 1994 – 1996 period, the work was repaired to add two more verandah corridors. By 2013, on the 100th anniversary, the church was remodeled a bit outside. These days, the church is always open to visitors, and there are always people reminding people to wear masks, to take measures to prevent epidemics. Having to go to the church when the afternoon comes, the sunset gradually hides behind the trees of the old tomb. The old porcelain root blossoms with white flowers, and the red confetti to adorn the ancient relics, can fully feel the harmonious design of Roman architecture (France) and wooden stilt houses of the Ba Na people. Through the upheaval in May, the wooden church is still standing there, like the indomitable spirit of the people of the Central Highlands. The material for the construction of the Kon Tum Cathedral Wooden Church is very special, completely made of the best wood at that time, which was Ca chit (red chrysanthemum) – a typical wood of the Central Highlands. Through the skillful hands of artisans from Binh Dinh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai … the work is bonded together by dream without using nails. The church is the only remaining Basilica-style wooden masterpiece in the world.

1. The largest scale and also the central work of the architectural complex of Phat Diem stone church is the St. Joseph church. This church was built in 1891 with the official name of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, now Phat Diem Cathedral.

This church was built of slate, inside there is a wooden frame system with 6 rows of monolithic ironwood columns. The building is 74 meters long, 21 meters wide, 15 meters high, with four roofs and five entrances under the elaborate stone arches. The roof of the church has a low curvature like the communal roof, the temple roof of the Vietnamese.

2. To the left and right of the house thanks to Lon, each side has two small churches, all bearing the same features as Vietnamese temples. The first is the Church of St. Joseph located in the front row on the right. This is the place of worship of St. Joseph, the father of Jesus.

3. Behind St. Joseph’s is the Church of St. Peter. In Christianity, Peter is the chief apostle among Jesus’ 12 apostles, directly empowered by Jesus to rule the Church.

President Macron made the above statement when visiting the Notre-Dame Cathedral exactly two years after the fire at this historic site. The French leader assessed that the restoration of the church had achieved great progress.

Jean-Louis Georgelin, who was chosen by President Macron to direct the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral, said although the church will be reopened for devotees to pray in April 2024. but there is still a need to continue restoration work thereafter. This reconstruction effort received financial support of approximately 833 million euros (991 million USD) through donation campaigns in France and around the world.

The fire at Notre Dame on April 15, 2019 lasted for up to 15 hours, collapsed the tower and burned a part of the roof of this historic site. President Macron has pledged to rebuild the church within five years, meaning it will open its doors to visitors when Paris is the host city of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
