POM House is a small house located on a hillside in Son La province. Like the hill villages of Vietnam over the past decade, the economic development has led to the construction works, making the city more and more cramped. The hill is now a cake with many pieces cut and leveled for a “more convenient” city. When designing the house, the group of architects aims to develop urban and its impact on nature. So half of the land area is for construction and the rest is for natural elements. The eaves are built around the yard as a solid limit to protect the “land” from the impact of construction works. The courtyard is inspired by the patio of the traditional house for midday shade. The living space in the house is arranged quite simply, including a large common space, where all activities take place and is a space for family members to connect. The two side spaces of the house are designed to be smaller as private spaces for rest. Each space is connected to a shared garden but has its own vision for each space. The V-shaped roofs with the lowest point in the middle divide the house into residential and auxiliary spaces. The roof is designed to open to the outside and is carefully calculated to cleverly welcome natural light into the house in the late afternoon when the light intensity has decreased.
