Fight against cryptocurrencies China closes data centers

As of: 06/22/2021 8:26 am

Virtual means of payment like Bitcoin are a thorn in the side of the Chinese government. That is why it is vehemently against it: Now data centers have been switched off in several parts of the country.

From Steffen Wurzel, ARD studio Shanghai

The Chinese government continues to vehemently oppose everything that has to do with Bitcoin. Banks and financial service providers were again asked not to offer any more services that have to do with crypto payment methods. One wants to preserve the stability and the security of the financial market and protect the assets and property of the population, said the state central bank of China.

China had banned trading in crypto-currency such as Bitcoin as early as 2017, as the first large country in the world. The so-called mining, however, i.e. the electronic generation of Bitcoins and Co with huge computer networks, was still tolerated by the Chinese authorities. The government has only been systematically taking action against decentralized and digital means of payment for around six weeks. Huge data centers were shut down in several parts of the country. Most recently, around two thirds of all new Bitcoins worldwide were generated with computers in China. This share will now decrease rapidly and significantly, say analysts.

Booming cryptocurrency China’s answer to the Bitcoin

In China, almost two thirds of all bitcoins on the world market are mined – still tolerated by the state.

Concept of bitcoin contradicts politics

Monetary and currency policy are centrally controlled in China. The central bank is directly under the communist leadership. The Chinese currency, renminbi or yuan, is not freely convertible. The decentralized and open concept of Bitcoin contradicts this policy and is therefore rejected by the Chinese government. At the same time, the government is working on its own digital currency, which, however, has almost nothing to do with Bitcoin.

The stricter action taken by the Chinese authorities against crypto-currency has helped Bitcoin to lose around half of its value in the past two months. The Bitcoin price is still a good three times as high as a year ago

Source丨Forbes Author 丨 Martin Giles Compiler丨Technology Walker Equinix may not be well-known, but their services support the trillion-dollar global network business system. This company, headquartered in Redwood City, California, has a market value of US$72 billion, with total revenue of US$6 billion last year, and operates a comprehensive infrastructure network of more than 220 data centers in 26 countries or regions. Equinix customers use a large number of servers (with a total area of more than 2.4 million square meters) provided by these data centers to store and process massive amounts of data necessary for online business. In addition, customers can also use the nearly 400,000 optical fiber links managed by Equinix to transmit data between their own servers and servers of other enterprises, and enjoy smooth and convenient interconnection support. Milind Wagle became the CIO of Equinix in September 2016. In his opinion, “The company has become the engine room of the digital economy. After all, the Internet must have a physical foundation to form and maintain operation, and this foundation is the data center.” Picture: Milind Wagle, CIO of Equinix The infrastructure operated by Equinix, as well as the service resources provided by competitors such as Digital Realty Trust and CyrusOne, will not directly appear in the eyes of customers. But the failure of these facilities is likely to cause serious damage: earlier this month, another network backbone company, Fastlyl, suffered an accident that affected multiple websites involving customers such as Amazon, The New York Times and Forbes. Although the incident itself has received high levels of attention, there are still many serious problems that people cannot feel at all, and technology executives such as Wagle have been looking for ways to enhance network resilience. “Foresight” in the data center Like other competitors, Equinix also needs to measure when the server in the data center may reach the upper limit of usage, when it needs to purchase land, and plan for the construction of new data centers and how much electricity the new facilities may require. Wagle explained, “Accurately predicting the power consumption and space occupancy of a data center is a very important task.” According to Equinix data, a data center that can accommodate thousands of servers often requires an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars. The cost depends on the specific location, local electricity price, selected equipment and hardware configuration. Data center companies also need to seriously consider designing long-term power purchase contracts. This is because each data center consumes several megawatts of power, and any calculation errors may bring huge costs. An Equinix spokesperson also shared an example of a Silicon Valley data center contract that contains a monthly fine of $223,000, emphasizing that the center’s expected power consumption should not be less than the committed use of 3 megawatts. For a long time, Equinix has been reviewing historical trends through the planning process, manual spreadsheets and dedicated planners, and combining information from customer channels to make clear estimates of future needs. But with the development of the business, this work has become more and more complicated. To this end, the Wagle team began to seek new applications of AI technology, hoping to develop algorithms to assist Equinix planners to improve their work efficiency and enhance their forecasting level. But the early results gave everyone a blow. Wagle recalled, “At first, everyone was not very interested, and most employees were skeptical about it, and our model was not 100% accurate.” But during the exploration, he also realized the great potential of AI technology and advocated for the team. Allow more time. He firmly believes that algorithms and a large amount of data from customer channels and historical usage patterns are the key to the company’s upgrade of the planning process. Wagle’s IT team found that an important reason why its AI model did not perform well in predicting demand in the early stage was that some of the input information itself was not accurate enough. To this end, he began to persuade colleagues to participate together, helping him to broadly improve the quality of data throughout the enterprise. Many observers believe that this incident is also an important node for Wagle to win the trust and support of opponents. Brian Lillie, who worked with Web domain registrar Verisign and Wagle, said, “His will is very firm. As long as he sees things right, he can always burst out strong willpower and enthusiasm for work, and must pull opponents out. Come to my side.” It was based on his understanding that Lillie decided to invite Wagle to join Equinix and take up the position of CIO. “AI Exploration” in the Data Center Wagle also said that Equinix has now fully launched a new idea of using AI to promote facility planning. “This brings us a very valuable modeling tool, we can predict how long the data center capacity will be completely exhausted, in order to make better supply chain decisions.” These models also help Equinix more Targeted optimization of its own power consumption, as far as possible to improve the environmental sustainability of the business. His team has also been trying to introduce AI technology in other fields. In terms of sales, they built new models to identify and attract new customers. This set of models absorbs about 100 different input indicators, including the target company’s financial status and expected growth trajectory. They also use AI technology to promote workflow automation, including working with internal finance teams to develop algorithms, reducing the amount of manual approval work that needs to be processed every year to about one-third. Picture: An Equinix data center in Amsterdam. The establishment of new Equinix data centers everywhere also reflects the tremendous benefits that Wagle’s efforts have brought to the enterprise itself-since this year, Equinix’s stock price has risen by 17%, which greatly exceeds the overall increase of the Nasdaq index. The company said that 2021 has become one of the most active years of business expansion in its history, and it is currently building 36 infrastructure projects in 19 countries or regions. Their plan also includes the construction of more “super large-scale” giant data centers, sufficient to support the data and processing needs of Internet giants such as Amazon and Google. On June 14 this year, Equinix announced that it has reached a US$3.9 billion deal with Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC for the continued expansion of facility construction. Equinix is also continuing to expand its fiber optic cable network to maintain efficient data flow between corporate customers. Timothy Horan, an analyst at Oppenheimer, an investment bank, believes that “many customers choose Equinix because they can more easily communicate with other companies here.” Horan compares Equinix to the central station of the Internet. Wagle and his team plan to further promote the full application of AI technology to ensure that these key interconnection systems and the data centers that support the network system always maintain stable and reliable operation

The ministry said five data center companies, Naver Cloud, Douzone Bizon, Kakao Enterprise, NHN and KT, along with the Artificial Intelligence Industry Cluster Agency, signed a memorandum of understanding with Korean server chip companies SK Telecom, Rebellions, FuriosaAI, and Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute to expand the use of products Semiconductor domestically produced artificial intelligence (AI) in data centers. Demand for AI semiconductor products from data center operators has been increasing in recent times. These companies need chips to process large volumes of data efficiently. Ministry of Science and Technology Information – Korean media predicts that the global server AI chip market will grow from $3.5 billion in 2020 to $34.7 billion in 2030. Under the aforementioned agreement, the companies will also cooperate on chip development, as well as pursue plans to establish a semiconductor test environment at an AI industry complex in Gwangju, 329 kilometers south of Seoul. The ministry said it would support the cooperation plan of the company and hope that this agreement will boost the semiconductor industry of Korea in the context of a recent global supply shortage.

Electric vehicle maker Tesla said on May 25 that it has built a new data center in mainland China and plans to add more databases in the country in the future. The move is said to comply with a recent commitment to retain locally collected data and has no intention of stealing customer information.

Source: CNN “Electric car data security is very important. And Tesla will make efforts to ensure this data security,” billionaire Tesla posted information on Weibo. According to Reuters and Bloomberg, earlier this year, the Chinese military banned Tesla electric vehicles from entering military facilities over concerns that the cameras installed in the vehicles could be used for surveillance. Tesla CEO – Elon Musk voiced China’s concerns about this information. “We always want to keep any customer information confidential. If a customer finds out that Tesla is using an electric car to spy in China or anywhere else, we will shut down,” Billion said US billionaire Elon Musk said at the China Development Forum in March. Tesla has recently faced many challenges in the Chinese electric vehicle market. In February, the company was summoned by regulators to discuss the quality of electric vehicles made in Shanghai. Chinese authorities expressed concern about a number of problems with the vehicles manufactured by the company, such as abnormal acceleration and battery fires. The company has faced direct criticism from consumers. In February, Tesla was forced to apologize after a customer provided a video of an issue with charging. In a public interview last month, billionaire Musk emphasized: “I am very confident about Tesla’s future in China. The Chinese economy will thrive in the next decade and will become a major economy. best of the world”.

The move comes after Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said last week in a statement that it was necessary to “suppress the behavior of Bitcoin mining and trading” to prevent “the transmission of personal risk to social spheres”. Those comments are seen as Beijing’s intention to further block Bitcoin trading and other crypto-related activities. Inner Mongolia’s latest draft proposals are aimed at telecommunications and internet companies involved in cryptocurrency mining. The Inner Mongolia Development and Reform Commission said such companies could have their business licenses revoked if they are found to be involved in Bitcoin mining. In addition, cloud computing or data centers may have their government incentives revoked. In addition, there are severe penalties for individuals involved in money laundering through cryptocurrencies. Inner Mongolia’s tough stance on crypto mining began in March after it announced plans to ban new crypto mining projects and shut down existing operations to cut consumption. energy. China’s Northern Region failed to meet Beijing’s energy use targets in 2019 and subsequently set out a plan to reduce power consumption. In the case of Bitcoin, miners purposefully use computers to solve complex mathematical puzzles that allow a Bitcoin transaction to take place efficiently. These miners are rewarded with Bitcoins. But because the computer has a large capacity, it consumes a lot of energy. According to the Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index, Bitcoin mining consumes around 112.57 terrawatt-hours (TWh) per year, more than the consumption of countries like the Philippines and Chile. China accounts for about 65% of the world’s Bitcoin mining. Of that, Inner Mongolia accounts for about 8% globally due to cheap energy prices, a larger share of Bitcoin mining in the United States. China’s tough stance towards cryptocurrencies is not new. China previously shut down local cryptocurrency exchanges in 2017 and that same year also banned initial coin offerings (ICOs). But Bitcoin trading continues to operate in China even though exchanges have moved overseas. Inner Mongolia’s scrutiny of Bitcoin mining activity in particular comes as China tries to continue the move. Chinese President Xi Jinping said last year that China has set a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2060. But according to a study published in Nature Communications in April 2021, Bitcoin mining could “undermine emissions reduction efforts” going on in the country. The energy consumption of Bitcoin mining operations came back into focus in early May after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the electric carmaker would stop accepting the digital currency for the reason due to environmental concerns. On Monday (May 24), Musk said in a tweet that he has met Bitcoin miners in North America and that they are “committed to announcing current and planned uses of renewables.”

Share with Business Insider , Saki (character name changed) accused Google of not resolving her complaint about being harassed by a male colleague from March to September 2020. This is the time when the Google office in Tokyo (Japan) switched to working from home due to the impact of the epidemic. In an email to Saki, a representative of Google’s human resources department said that the harassment took place outside of the workplace, not under the management of the company. However, Saki claimed to be harassed by colleagues while working remotely according to Google’s guidelines. “I’m completely disappointed… I don’t know what it would be like to work in an office,” admits Saki has difficulty reporting the inadequacies of working from home. Instigating texting when married Saki’s story was shared after 500 employees of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, simultaneously signed a request to stop covering up employees accused of harassing colleagues in April. Some documents shared by Saki for Business Insider including screenshots of messages between her and male co-workers, a copy of the complaint email sent to Google’s human resources department in Tokyo, and a statement from two friends of Saki. Saki joined Google in December 2019. Immediately after joining the job, she received a message from a colleague she had never met via LinkedIn. During the first week, the man offered Saki a drink. “I just want to talk about work,” he texted Saki. Google has faced many accusations of irresponsibility when it comes to dealing with employees who have been sexually harassed. Photo: The Guardian. A few weeks later, her colleague flirted with her by texting: “I find you very attractive… You are so beautiful in white. Come out for a drink with me.” Although Saki said that she was busy, this person still wanted to meet. By January 2020, Japan recorded the first case of infection. Both accepted to date in the context of the outbreak of the pandemic. However, only a month later, Saki discovered that the other colleague was married. Wanting to cut ties as soon as she knew the truth, Saki decided to video call Google’s human resources department to discuss. Through his lawyer, the male colleague confirmed that the “serious” relationship with Saki only started after he revealed he was married. However, records show that Saki called human resources on March 1, as soon as she learned that the man who flirted with her was married. Employees harassed for months, Google still “ignored” Recounting the meeting, Saki said the Google representative cited the policy of accepting relationships between two employees in the workplace, as long as one is not a senior of the other. According to Google, the incident described by Saki mainly took place at home, not the office, so it is not considered a workplace problem. “They said to me: ‘He’s not your boss. You also agreed to date so that’s your private matter'”, Saki said that Google considers this relationship a private matter, so it refuses to resolve it. . For the next several months, the male colleague continued to text Saki regularly even though she wanted to cut off the relationship. “I am very happy to meet you. I am always excited every time we meet. Hearing your voice makes me happy all day” is the content of the message he sent to Saki on April 4, 2020. Saki did not reply to the message. Google believes that employee harassment occurred at home, so it declined to investigate. Photo: Bloomberg. “I want to go for a walk with you,” a colleague texted Saki on May 8, 2020. 9 days later, another text message read: “You may be out of interest or not like me anymore, but I’ve been thinking about this relationship… I’d be happy if we could just go for a walk and talk about everything. “. For many months, the man repeatedly wanted to see Saki during working hours, although she repeatedly refused. “I don’t want to be the third person. I don’t want to see your face, we have nothing to say,” Saki replied to a colleague in June 2020. When Google announced that most of its employees would work from home through the end of 2020, the alleged harassing co-worker regularly visited Saki’s house without being invited. In the first time on July 10, 2020, Saki refused when he wanted to come to the house, but received the response “I’m in a taxi”. After being bothered many times, Saki decided to video call the HR department for the second time in September 2020. However, despite the “obsessive” harassment actions, the Google representative still insisted that it was a consensual relationship, a private matter, so he refused to investigate. “Neither of you have the right to impose others in the company. Therefore, we still maintain that this is a personal matter. I understand this is a difficult situation, but we ask for your understanding for the company. does not have the right to interfere in the personal affairs of employees”, the Google representative continued that it was an incident at Saki’s house, so there was no responsibility to solve it. Saki did not accept the above response because like millions of others, Saki’s home became a workplace for the whole of 2020. Not long after Saki’s second complaint, this man left Google to go to another technology company for unknown reasons. “I have to acknowledge his existence from time to time because our fields of work are similar… I still feel threatened on a regular basis,” Saki said, adding that she was still worried by the person continuing. continue to work in a technology company. Tired of the irresponsible handling of the human resources team at Google, Saki decided to leave the company in January 2021. According to research by Open Democracy, working from home has “provided an opportunity for bad guys to threaten, intimidate and abuse women”. Photo: AP. Does working from home facilitate harassment? Reply Business Insider A Google representative declined to comment on Saki’s allegations, but asserted that local policy “clearly prohibits harassment in the workplace”. “We investigate all allegations and will take decisive action if an employee is found to be in violation,” a Google spokesperson declined to answer a question when asked if the harassment policy was updated in the wake of the outbreak. not yet. The nature of sexual harassment in the workplace has changed after the epidemic. According to research by Open Democracy, working from home has “provided an opportunity for bad guys to threaten, intimidate and abuse women”. Although there is still very little research, experts around the world confirm that many companies have failed to adjust their policies. “In the world of remote work, harassment must be reconsidered. People can be harassed via text messages, comments and videos. That’s why it’s important to HR and public leaders. The company is about raising awareness, increasing training and opening up a safe psychological space for employees to speak up,” shared Josh Bersin, founder of HR consulting firm Bersin Academy. Inside Google’s $13 Billion Data Center In February 2019, Google announced that it would build more data centers in North America. This creates thousands of jobs and expands office space and data centers.

Today, chips are in everything from game consoles and toothbrushes to washing machines and alarm clocks. However, the world is facing a serious chip crisis, showing no signs of stopping. Glenn O’Donnell, vice president of research at consulting firm Forrester, believes the situation will last until 2023 due to high demand and continued supply stress. He forecast personal computer demand will decline slightly next year, while data centers will buy more chips. According to him, combined with the growth in cloud computing and mining, the demand for chips is going to explode. According to Patrick Armstrong, IT director of Plurimi Investment Managers, the chip crisis could last 18 months. There are too many products that require chips such as cars, phones, IoT… All connected to the Internet. The car industry is affected more than any other sector. Earlier this month, the world’s largest chipmaker TSMC said it could catch up with car demand in June. But Mr. Armstrong said that was too ambitious. Ford, BMW, and Volkswagen all stressed they had production bottlenecks and couldn’t buy enough chips needed to build cars. Research firm Gartner predicts the chip crisis will continue until 2021, not to mention chip prices also increase. Analyst Alan Priestley said the situation could improve for some sectors in the next six months, but there could also be a “chain effect” into 2022. The semiconductor industry is doing everything to increase productivity but need time. In fact, Intel announced to spend $ 20 billion for two new chip factories in Arizona, USA. According to Mr. Priestley, it will take two to three years for these plants to operate but it will meet future demand. Reinhard Ploss, CEO of German chip maker Infineon, said last week that it “clearly takes time” until supply and demand balance. According to Wenzhe Zhao, Credit Suisse’s director of global economics and strategy, the recent chip crisis has encouraged inventory stockpiling in the supply chain, leading to a widening supply-demand gap. Not much can be done to solve the current situation, he said, except to adjust orders, production schedules and prices. Du Lam (According to CNBC)

While index Dow Jones is close to record levels, the index of companies providing cloud services is at its lowest level in six months. Stock price of WisdomTree Cloud Computing Fund, a fund that tracks the index of cloud services companies, includes 56 shares, down 2.4%, the seventh day of decrease in the past eight days (as of 10 / 5). Technology stocks began to sell out in February and sold out faster in the past few weeks. The main cause of the market’s diversion is concern about the possibility of an interest rate rise as this will normally negatively impact high-growth firms, combined with the attractiveness of stocks that are often beneficial. so when inflation is as high as finance, goods and industry. Compared to a year ago, the index of cloud services companies fell 15%, while the Dow Jones Index rose 14% and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 4%. In the last year, a sharp increase in the cloud service provider’s index thanks to an unexpectedly fast transition to remote work, forcing businesses to use products that enable employees to coordinate. remote and access to data stored in data centers. From Zoom for video chat and Twilio to text exchanges to CrowdStrike and Zscaler’s security tools, large businesses have had to buy new technologies for widespread use. Global X analyst Pedro Palandrani, who manages venture funds, says 2020 is a phenomenal year for companies providing cloud services by working remotely. He said it would be a mistake to reopen the economy to stop everyone from using computing solutions. cloud Twilio said last week that the first quarter of 2021 revenue increased 62%, exceeding the forecast of analysts. ServiceNow also outperformed the forecast with a 30% increase in revenue. Zoom had three consecutive quarters of growth of over 300% and an estimated increase of over 175% in the first quarter.

In the early morning of April 23, the semiconductor giant Intel announced the first quarter of 2021 financial report. Although the overall performance exceeded market expectations, the revenue of the data center business, which is regarded as the growth locomotive, fell 20% year-on-year. As of press time, Intel fell 2.17% after the market.
According to Intel’s disclosure, revenue in the first fiscal quarter was US$19.7 billion, a decrease of 1% compared to US$19.8 billion in the same period last year; net profit was US$3.4 billion, a decrease of 41% compared to US$5.7 billion in the same period last year; Not in accordance with the General Accounting Standards, net profit was US$5.7 billion, a decrease of 6% from the US$6.1 billion in the same period last year.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger (Pat Gelsinger) said that the global chip supply shortage may continue for two more years. Kissinger said that the supply constraints will continue until more production capacity goes online to meet chip demand. Data center business is challenged Data center business has become the main source of bad earnings this time. Intel’s financial report shows that the data center group’s revenue in the first quarter was US$5.6 billion, a 20% decrease from US$7 billion in the same period last year. The decline in demand for cloud computing chips and the decline in government and enterprise demand caused by the epidemic have all triggered a decline in data center revenue . As the group’s highest profitability business, the decline in data center profits also dragged down the overall gross profit margin, which fell by 5 percentage points year-on-year to 55.2%. From the industry perspective, Intel is undergoing a transformation from a “PC center” to a “data center”. But in the era when data has become the “new oil”, it is not only Intel that sees the cake of data centers, but Nvidia and AMD are trying to further seize this market through mergers and acquisitions. On the other hand, Intel’s customers in the data center field, Google, Amazon, and Alibaba, have all begun to develop their own chips. “Any customized chip is a differentiated competition for them. For them, the chip is a strategy, not a route choice.” Vice President of Intel Marketing Group and General Manager of China Industry Solutions Department Liang Yali responded to this earlier. On April 8, Intel launched the third-generation Xeon scalable processor and a series of related product portfolios, which were regarded by the outside world as a counterattack to AMD’s attack. Among them, Ice Lake is Intel’s first server chip using 10nm. In addition, in the financial report data, Intel’s personal computer chip business revenue was 10.6 billion US dollars, an increase of 8% over the same period last year. The overall demand for this major notebook computer market has increased. However, it is also worth noting that the past high-end product line cooperation On the other hand, Apple has also begun to use more self-developed chips in the Mac product line. In the entire Intel’s quarterly report, the biggest bright spot is that the autonomous driving system company Mobileye’s revenue rose by 48% year-on-year to 377 million US dollars, and its operating profit rose by 67% year-on-year. “Lack of core” trend will continue At present, the shortage of chips has gradually spread from some links such as foundry, packaging and testing to the entire industry chain, involving multiple consumer fields such as automobiles, mobile phones, and notebooks. As one of the main players in the chip supply chain, Intel claims that the global chip supply shortage may continue for two more years. Prior to this, in order to reverse Intel’s decline in competition in the semiconductor industry, Kissinger proposed the IDM 2.0 plan. In the financial report statement, Kissinger also stated that this year will be an “important year” for Intel. From an industry perspective, Intel represents the IDM (Integrated Device Manufacture) model. The manufacturer is responsible for the entire process of the chip from design to finished product. This model can ensure the integration of the product from design to manufacturing. But in terms of iteration efficiency and cost, the Foundry model represented by TSMC is currently more mainstream. In order to change the current foundry pattern based on TSMC, Intel plans to invest approximately US$20 billion in the construction of two new factories (fabs) in Arizona, the United States. Intel stated that it hopes to become a major provider of foundry production capacity and provide services to customers around the world from the United States and Europe. Research organization TrendForce said that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will begin using the 5nm process to produce Intel’s Core i3 chips in the second half of this year. But judging from the latest news, Intel seems to want to increase its manufacturing capacity centered on the United States in order to reduce its dependence on Asian manufacturers. For Intel at the moment, the biggest problem is that the expansion investment plan may take several years to provide profits for it. In the financial report, Intel expects Q2 revenue of US$17.8 billion, slightly higher than the expected US$17.55 billion; however, the EPS forecast of US$1.05 is slightly lower than expected, and the company explained that it was affected by production capacity expansion expenses. As of press time, Intel reported $62.57 per share. It placed an order of 1.77% on Thursday and dropped 2.17% after the market.

The digitization of land information data will limit land fevers. Illustrative photo: Tuan Nguyen Mr. Mathew Powell, Director of Savills Hanoi, shared that digitizing information will bring benefits in controlling land information, in order to ensure the transparency of information. This is one of the solutions that have been given after land fevers continuously occurred over time, when land prices were pushed up because of lack of accurate information. In addition, according to him, one of the solutions can be mentioned is the establishment of national data on land prices – where all land information is stored on a digital platform. Everything is controlled by the land registry, but the national digitization of land transactions creates a more transparent outlook. “Prices are being pushed up based on misinformation or misunderstandings. This has led to confusion in prices and some people will make wrong investment decisions based on misinformation. Therefore, the emergence of a data source where information is widely and accurately disclosed will allow the real estate market to operate stably and minimize price leaps, “he said. this said. Matthew Powell, for example, in the UK already has a national land information management background. Every piece of land and every transaction that takes place on that land is kept for centuries. Such information is accessed and used by all real estate market operators and the government is also used as an effective legal tool. “It is important to improve the storage and transmission of information, minimizing features that have become obsolete in real estate such as over reliance on papers. As papers are digitized. information is not only transmitted more effectively, but also brings higher confidentiality, “said Savills Hanoi Director. In response to the explosive demand for digital transformation, data centers have been rapidly expanding globally. According to Savills, by 2026, the size of the global data market is expected to reach US $ 251 billion with an average annual growth rate of 4.5 %./.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung exchanged the above views at the launch of EcoDC Green Data Center (Eco Data Center) – the project of HTC International Telecommunication Joint Stock Company (HTC-ITC) – just took place on April 15. According to Deputy Minister Dung, the development of digital infrastructure includes developing broadband telecommunications infrastructure, cloud computing platform, electronic identification and authentication, and realizing the vision of each citizen with a smartphone. , each household has an optical fiber line. Talking about EcoDC Green Data Center, Mr. Dung said that the EcoDC data center meeting both Uptime Tier 3 standards in terms of design and operation is a serious work of HTC-ITC. This will also be a steady step in the process of national digital transformation, increasing opportunities to attract more investment sources into the Vietnamese information technology market. Emphasizing that Vietnam is implementing digital transformation, moving all activities from real space to cyberspace, from real environment to digital environment, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung expressed: “We also hope HanoiTelecom and especially EcoDC, let’s take on the mission of being a giant shoulder for small and medium enterprises and especially for Vietnam’s digital transformation process, because the data center is the heart of every application. use, all the platforms and this is very important ”. Vietnam currently has a total of 5 Data Center systems meeting Uptime Tier 3 standards, but this is the first time a Data Center in Vietnam meets both Uptime Tier 3 standards in design and construction.
Facebook logo at headquarters in Menlo Park, California, USA. Photo: AFP / VNA According to a joint statement by Facebook and CleanMax, the 32 MW wind power plant will be located in the state of Karnataka in southern India, as part of a larger project on wind and solar power that the two companies are working with. to provide renewable energy to the Indian power grid. CleanMax will own and operate the above projects, while Facebook will buy electricity from the Indian grid. Facebook’s head of renewable energy, Urvi Parekh, said the tech company usually does not own the power plants, instead signing a “long term” power purchase agreement with the renewable energy company. According to her, this will help projects find the necessary capital. India is currently Facebook’s largest market in terms of users. Meanwhile, in Singapore, Facebook has also announced similar partnership arrangements with energy suppliers such as Sunseap Group, Terrenus Energy and Sembcorp Industries, which can generate 160 MW of solar power. Power from these plants will be supplied to Facebook’s first data center in Asia and located in Singapore, the facility expected to come online next year. Last year, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said data centers were causing technology companies like Facebook to consume about 1% of all global electricity. Tech companies like Amazon, Alphabet Inc and Microsoft have pledged to move towards zero carbon emissions and achieve zero net emissions, amid demand for digital data and services. ants will increase steadily. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on April 15 announced that the company’s global operations are now run entirely on renewable energy and have reached zero net emissions.

Vietnam currently has a total of 5 Data Center systems meeting Uptime Tier 3 standards. However, this is the first time a Data Center in Vietnam has met both Uptime Tier 3 standards in design and construction.
HTC International Telecommunication Joint Stock Company (HTC-ITC) has officially put into operation the ecoDC data center (Eco Data Center) in Lang high-tech park – Hoa Lac (Hanoi).

This is the first data center in Vietnam that meets Uptime Tier 3 standards in both design (TCCD) and construction and operation (TCCF).

Uptime Tier 3 is the 3rd on the Uptime Institute’s four-tiered data center scale.

Launching ceremony of ecoDC data center. Photo: Trong Dat

To achieve this standard, a Data Center system must ensure uptime (uptime) of 99.982% or more and downtime (downtime) not more than 1.6 hours per year.

In addition, this system must be capable of redundancy to still be able to operate if the power is lost for up to 72 consecutive hours.

To meet the strict standards of Uptime Institute, ecoDC uses 100% of infrastructure equipment from two strategic partners, Delta and Arista.

Besides, this Data Center also uses an inrow cooling system. This is an energy saving technology for the first time deployed in Vietnam with the ability to control the cooling temperature to each server.

This system includes air conditioning running along the rack with hot air intake assist. Thanks to that, ecoDC can increase cooling efficiency and reduce power consumption.

Vietnam has the first data center with 2 Uptime Tier 3 standards. Photo: Trong Dat

Vietnam currently has a total of 5 Data Center systems meeting Uptime Tier 3 standards. However, these systems only meet Uptime Tier 3 standard in terms of design.

This data center costs the developer about 100 billion VND. Currently, the system has been completed with 6 PODs (box-type data centers) with a total of 150 racks (network cabinets). EcoDC will officially launch and start operating from April 2021.

Sharing at this event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung said that the ecoDC data center meeting both Uptime Tier 3 standards in design and operation is a serious work result of HTC-ITC. This will also be a solid step in the process of transforming the number of countries.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung, in order to have a lasting and strong development, enterprises must associate their mission with the national one.

Vietnam is implementing digital transformation, moving all activities from real space to cyberspace, from real to digital environment.

In the National Digital Transformation program, the Ministry of Information and Communications determined that Vietnam must develop digital infrastructure, including broadband telecommunications infrastructure, cloud computing, electronic identification and authentication. Vietnam is also realizing the vision that each citizen has a smartphone, each household has an Internet fiber optic cable connection.

The most fundamental difference between telecom and digital infrastructure is data centers and cloud computing platforms that make IT a service accessible to everyone.

In that process, businesses need to receive the mission that is in sync with the country’s mission.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung suggested, as an enterprise providing basic infrastructure, HTC-ITC should soon work with functional units of the Ministry of Information and Communications to meet the technical requirements set forth for the ensure network operation and safety.

As a platform provider, HTC-ITC assumes the mission of being a “giant shoulder” for small and medium enterprises and for the Vietnamese digital transformation process.
