“Ten years of dormancy, one burst”, this sentence may be more appropriate to describe one of the most eye-catching new stocks in 2021, Betteni (300957.SZ).

In the past 10 years or so, Betteni steadily incubated China’s No. 1 functional skin care brand-“Winona”, and took the lead in the golden track for sensitive skin. In 2021, Betteni quickly broke through 100 billion in market value within one month of listing, becoming the company with the highest market value in China’s cosmetics industry so far. Recently, in just three months after the A-share listing, Betteni launched a plan to go public in Hong Kong, significantly accelerating the internationalization and multi-brand layout, pointing directly to the blueprint of “China’s skin health ecological enterprise”. Such a fast pace of development and huge potential value are quite eye-catching.

On the market side, they also voted “yes” with practical actions. On June 18, Betteni’s stock price rose again, closing at 257.98 yuan per share, with a market value of 109.3 billion yuan.

(Source: Wind)

Looking further, how did Betteni establish the blueprint of “China’s skin health ecological enterprise”? What is the latest result?

There is room for multiplication in the core track, high repurchase rate and strong supervision help the strong to become Hengqiang

According to previous financial reports, Dermatology-grade skin care products, as Betteni’s basic products, have driven its performance to continue to increase. For the whole year of 2020, Betteni achieved revenue of 2.636 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 35.64%; net profit attributable to parent company was 544 million, a year-on-year increase of 31.94%. Among them, the revenue of cosmetics accounted for 90.07%. In the first quarter of 2021, Betteni’s revenue was 507 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 59.32%; net profit attributable to the parent was 79 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 46.5%.

Looking to the future, it is still an important yardstick for measuring Betteni’s development space. Affected by the popularization of market education in China’s new media and live broadcasts, China’s dermatology-grade skin care product market has grown rapidly. In 2019, the market size reached 13.6 billion yuan, a growth rate of 33%, far higher than the global market’s 4% growth rate. However, in the same year, the per capita consumption of dermatology-grade skin care products in China was only 1.2 US dollars, which is quite different from the mature markets in developed countries. Compared to South Korea’s 3.9 US dollars, the penetration rate of China’s dermatological skin care products market has at least three times the room for growth.

At the same time, this track has market characteristics such as high repurchase rate and strong supervision, which makes it easier to help the strong to stay strong. According to the “Sensitive Skin Care Products Market Research Report”, 92% of the population will repurchase sensitive skin care products, that is, consumers with sensitive skin have higher brand stickiness, which makes it more difficult for new companies to enter. Supervision is also stricter, especially the “Cosmetic Efficacy Evaluation Specification” will be officially implemented on May 1, 2021. The “Specifications” require cosmetic claims to have sufficient scientific basis. The establishment of industry standards has further improved the entry of sensitive muscles. Barriers are conducive to leading enterprises that regulate their operations. After a long period of academic and word-of-mouth accumulation, Betteni has become the leader in skin care for sensitive skin. In 2020, Betteni’s market share in China’s dermatological cosmetics market will reach 21.6%, surpassing major international brands such as Avène, Vichy, and La Roche-Posay. In terms of “Winona”, it became the only domestic brand on the top ten list of Tmall Double Eleven sales in the same year. The product repurchase rate in the past three years was about 30%, and the repurchase rate of international big-name skin care products was also Only around 20%. So there is reason to expect, It is difficult for players to replace Betteni’s market position in the short term, and it is expected to continue its high growth momentum under the logic of the strong. It also means that it has the capacity and space to match a larger business scale, and then incubate new industries around the “skin health ecology”. The multi-brand matrix has been progressing in an orderly manner, and the H-share listing will accelerate this process In terms of specific progress, in addition to the main brand “Winona”, Betteni also owns a number of sub-brands. Among them, “WINONA Baby” is based on the professional infant and child care track, “Acne Care” focuses on acne skin care, and “Beauty Answers” focuses on precision repair, anti-oxidation and anti-aging after medical art. Positioned as a dry skin care brand. In the 2020 annual report, Betteni also stated that in 2021, it will continue to implement a multi-brand plan through intensive cultivation and extensional acquisitions. Intuitively, Betteni’s multi-brand matrix on the one hand expands the scope of the audience and further opens up space for users. On the other hand, it fully meets the needs of users for segmentation and meets the shopping demands of young consumers. It may be based on the brand matrix. Improve brand exposure and favorability. and, The R&D, channels and other resources accumulated by Betteni earlier can be more fully utilized to quickly promote the development of the new brand. Take “WINONA Baby” as an example. This brand is the first brand in China to conduct in-depth exploration through clinical observation of children from newborns to two-year-olds. It was co-created by Betteni and National Pediatric Dermatologist Professor Ma Lin and other experts through medical research. Exclusive skin care products for babies and toddlers. At the same time, it is understood that “WINONA Baby” will use OTC pharmacies and online as the main channels, with core functionalities. This is highly overlapped with the channel network of “Winona”. At the same time, Betteni is advancing the channel construction and alliance cooperation of medical aesthetics institutions to lay a good foundation for medical aesthetics promotion. On this basis, with the advancement of H-share listings, the layout of the Bettenido brand ecosystem may be further accelerated. This move will undoubtedly help the Betteni and Winona brands to increase their overseas visibility. At the same time, Betteni can stabilize the equity structure through the “A+H” approach and achieve efficient acquisition of overseas high-quality brand assets. Betteni also publicly stated: “Whether it is to build a new brand, lay out a new track, or promote the market from China to the world, build an international brand, and go public in Hong Kong is a good choice for Betteni.” summary It can be seen that Betteni’s development path is to focus on the skin health segmentation track, seize the leading position, build a solid barrier, and then expand the industry and market around the “skin health ecology”, returning to the multi-brand strategy defined in the initial period. . As Betteni’s business performance continues to increase and gains high recognition from the market, the opportunity to return to the multi-brand strategy is gradually coming. In the future, Betteni may no longer be limited to cosmetics, but will become an industry provider of “skin health ecology”, opening up a broader space for growth

In the Yangtze River Delta, a tourist resort with few beautiful scenery has become popular recently. It is located in a city but far away from the hustle and bustle with its innate cultural atmosphere and unique natural environment. It integrates tourism, sightseeing, sports, and leisure. Countless modern urbanites have come to go out for a quiet walk. This is the natural Great Lake Bay, “Suzhou Bay”, located in the south of Suzhou city, across Wuzhong and Wujiang districts, above the water of Taihu Lake. Suzhou Bay in April is full of flowers, red grass and green, fresh air, and picturesque scenery, which is very suitable for outings in the countryside. On the bank of East Tai Lake, there is a large-scale ecological leisure park integrating the city and the lake, and the water and green are interdependent: the East Tai Lake Ecological Park, which has become a popular place for citizens and tourists for leisure and sightseeing. It is not only smoke, green grass, and the environment is very original, but also has various leisure and entertainment facilities. It is perfect for outdoor sports, outings, picnics, and scenic walks. The desirable green and low-carbon life can be easily realized in the East Taihu Ecological Park. This ecological park is located on the south side of the East Taihu Lake Bridge in Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is an important waterfront system of the entire Wujiang Riverfront and East Taihu Lake. It is 47 kilometers in length and encompasses the entire lake area with an area of 185 square kilometers. It is currently one of the few in Suzhou. A large open park on the edge of Taihu Lake. After 50 months of comprehensive planning and remediation, the area of East Taihu Lake Ecological Park has been transformed into an ecological park with vast expanses of blue waves and greenery. The entire ecological park is divided into three parts: the waterfront square area, the central park area, and the ecological experience area. It is open to the public free of charge. It is an excellent place for sightseeing, leisure and entertainment in Suzhou Bay. Relying on the grand plan of Suzhou Bay, the entire East Taihu Ecological Park, surrounded by the rich natural resources of Taihu Lake, stands in a prosperous city, yet far away from the hustle and bustle. People who have been here can’t help but sigh, here is the natural beauty of clear water and hibiscus, as well as beautiful makeup The acquired finishing touch, the water and soil are beautiful, the environment is fresh and pleasant, and the scenery is full of poetry. There are four distinct seasons in Suzhou, and the four seasons of the Ecological Garden are also different. Spring can enjoy flowers and birds, summer can enjoy bird watching, autumn can enjoy colorful red leaves, winter can enjoy the ice and snow Jiangnan, the scenery is not as good as Hangzhou West Lake, although tickets are not accepted here. However, there are not many tourists. It is an ideal place to experience the extravagant life in the suburbs of the city. With the profound historical and cultural heritage of this area, it is like a modern Wangyou Park like a peach blossom field. The design of East Taihu Lake Ecological Park combines the waterscape of East Taihu Lake with distant mountains and near water. It pays attention to the leisure space for citizens and advocates the humanized design of the waterfront. Tourists can camp with their families, fly kites, or make appointments. Three or five friends walk or ride by the lake, or have fun with parents and children, and taste delicious food. Relax here and enjoy a pleasant vacation time in the suburbs. With the theme of civic space, the water square area is equipped with tourist service centers, supermarkets, children’s play areas, amusement project rental points, silk squares, green slope squares, water flower island maze and other supporting projects, suitable for tourists of all ages. Especially in April when the spring is boundless, it becomes a paradise for children outings. Everywhere on the grass you can see happy figures chasing me, cheering and laughing endlessly. The Central Park area is themed to show the artistic conception of a water village in the south of the Yangtze River, and the Meizhuang area is the most distinctive. Small bridges and small bridges flow through the entire Meizhuang complex. The white walls and black tiles shape the atmosphere of the settlements in the south of the Yangtze River. It has a modern style and the charm of Wudi. The ecological experience zone constructs the original ecological habitat environment with small islands, shoals, aquatic plants and undulating gentle hills of multi-layered forests. The viewing trails are mainly gravel paths and wooden plank roads, which provide a path close to nature. The ecological environment here is good. Egrets and wild ducks can be seen in the evening, giving tourists the original ecological tourism viewing experience. Visitors can also wander through the plant trails of the Nature School and feel the infinite charm of nature. Among them, there is one attraction that is worth checking in, and that is the “Wangong Dike”. The Wangong Dike is 1,350 meters long. It used to be a part of the Taihu Lake Dike. Now it has been transformed into a landscape belt along the lake. This dam echoes the Suzhou Bay Bridge. It was named after Wan Qing, an expert on water conservancy in the Qing Dynasty, and is a historical and cultural mark of Suzhou Bay. Strolling here, the dam is surrounded by deep and tall trees, full of green, fresh air, is a quiet and comfortable “urban green lung”, very suitable for a leisurely stroll, breathing air full of negative oxygen ions. And walking in the dense tree-lined road, just take a quick shot, it’s a photo of an internet celebrity check-in.

For the sustainable cultivation of fruit trees, ecological zoning is required, in which ecological conditions must be carefully assessed.
The process of taking care of fruit trees

When having a good soil environment for plants, plant care is also very important, mainly fertilizing and pruning. Fertilization, it is necessary to follow the rhythm of the tree’s life. For example, a newly planted tree, its life cycle is the bursts of buds (buds). As for fruit trees, the tree’s life rhythm is: harvesting, creating buds, flowering and raising fruit. The following is the plant care process Dr. Tran Kim Tinh, lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and Applied Biology – Can Tho University, introduces it to readers for reference. Plant ground cover grass. Photo: Minh Dam. First, plant ground cover grass. Keep the water in the ditch 50-60 cm above the ground. Sprinkler irrigation (small rays) or permeable irrigation. Post-harvest pruning of fruit trees. The tree is still small, after each bud, needs to be pruned, created a canopy and only produces 3-4 buds in a year. In terms of fertilizer use, organic fertilizers must be applied annually and only when needed to produce sprouts for seedlings. For fruit trees, fertilize when creating buds to use high nitrogen. When the tree is in the stage of growing young fruit, it reduces nitrogen and increases potassium. As fruit trees grow, farmers should further reduce nitrogen and increase potassium. Farmers should fertilize plants with organic fertilizer every year. (In the photo: Compost production at Clean Farm Company). Photo: Minh Dam. Common mistakes in farming Currently, on land crops, there are too many errors in soil preparation for planting and crop care. The prerequisite is to have the right soil physical environment for plant roots to develop. A lot of gardens, the preparation and management of the land is not right. Errors such as soil compaction are very common in all provinces. This leads to vegetable plants not growing evenly, corn not developing roots, orange orchards yellowing leaves, sleeping during the day. The structure of the soil (clump of soil) is not suitable, the lump of soil is too big for the roots to develop. Soil is compacted, reducing permeability. Keep water too high in the orchard. Use soil that is too acidic to grow fruit trees. Converting rice land to grow fruit trees, but there is no way to prepare the land properly. Improper watering. Planting trees buried roots too deep. Too much nitrogen fertilizer and foliar spray have too many growth stimulants, making the canopy unbalanced with the roots, the tree sleeps during the day. The soil structure must be suitable for the plant. Photo: Minh Dam. In farming there are mistakes, which can be easily remedied. For example, over-fertilizing nitrogen, spraying foliar fertilizers, but there are many errors in cultivation, which are difficult to overcome or even impossible to overcome, but must be cut down to replant. For example, in rice farming, farmers are advised to withdraw water mid-season, or to withdraw water several times in a crop. If farmers withdraw water by draining water from the field, this is a very dangerous practice. Because of doing so, the rice soil becomes acidic very quickly. Instead of recommending water withdrawal, it must be recommended to squeeze the water. That means adjusting the amount of watering so that by that point the field becomes dry. For upland crops, soil compaction is very dangerous, because when the soil is compacted, it is very difficult to overcome. The pH must be right One thing to be concerned about, the soil pH in the Mekong Delta is now seriously declining and depleted of potassium. Plants cannot absorb nutrients effectively when the pH is not raised to 6-6.5. Due to the serious decrease in organic matter in rice soil, when flooded, it is not possible to raise the pH. There are still many shortcomings in rice cultivation, when it comes to soil, that need to be studied. Soils in the Mekong Delta are seriously lacking in potassium and need to be supplemented with potassium, especially in the fruiting stage. Photo: Minh Dam. It is not enough, soil pH must be suitable and nutrients for plants must be sufficient in quantity and type. It has been shown in science that the mineral nutrients for plants must be sufficient in type (14 types) and in quantity, if one of the 14 types is lacking, the crop yield will decrease, even though 13 types The rest are high. In order for plants to absorb nutrients well, the pH of the soil must be suitable, preferably 6-6.5. Below pH 6, absorption of some nutrients is difficult and when the pH drops to 4-5, nutrient absorption is severely reduced. No plants grow normally under low pH and high pH conditions. For example, the pineapple tree can grow on acidic soil, but it is not normal. For sustainable farming, the following criteria should be considered and trained for farmers: Technical level of farmers, organic content in soil, soil pH in profile, soil texture, soil structure in analysis. area, irrigation capacity, drainage, fertilizer application process. Currently, there are still many issues that need to be studied to determine the soil properties that need to be addressed. The ecological characteristics need to be analyzed thoroughly, for ecological zoning. Minh Dam – Ngoc Thang ( write the)

Tram Tau hot mineral spring eco-zone (Yen Bai). As a highland district of Yen Bai province, Tram Tau is favored by nature with soft terraced fields and natural hot mineral sources good for health. Now, tourists can combine sightseeing, eco-tourism and relaxation when coming to Yen Bai. In April, when the banyan flowers cover the Northwest mountains and forests, and the orange groves ripen on the hillsides, backpackers or those who love to travel are eager to discover new lands, places they have never been to. About 100 km from Yen Bai city center, Tram Tau district is far away, but the unspoiled natural scenery, majestic mountains and picturesque terraced fields are factors that draw tourists everywhere. country every time I come here. Cu Vai village, Ta Chi Nhu peak (Ha Ho commune), Hang Te Cho waterfall (Lang Nhi commune) are names that make many backpackers want to immediately pack a backpack and hit the road. Contributing to the map of Vietnam’s terraces, besides famous places to see beautiful terraced fields such as Hoang Su Phi (Ha Giang), Y Ty (Lao Cai), Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai), terraced fields Tram Tau has been named by the community and is a search term that is searched a lot, but equally attractive is the Tram Tau hot mineral spring ecological area. After the winding and dangerous roads, the typical sleeve bends in the Northwest mountainous region, through Nghia Lo town, about 2 km from the center of Tram Tau district, Tram Tau hot mineral spring ecological area is located completely. in the green rice fields, between layers of mountains and immense clouds, surrounded by the peaceful and simple roofs of indigenous people. The system of outdoor hot spring swimming pools over 600 m2, located close to the green rice fields with a view overlooking the lyrical natural scenery, makes Tram Tau hot spring area like a gentle highlight among the majestic mountains. . This source circuit flowing from the ground has created more attraction for Tram Tau, turning this place into an eco-tourism resort. Fluctuating between 43 – 450C, the sulfur content is not too high, relaxing in the warm water helps visitors recover health, shake off fatigue after a day in the car through long and winding roads. elbow. Although it is about to enter the first days of summer, in Tram Tau, the feeling of spring is still around. The sound of birds chirping, the sound of a buffalo muzzle in the distance, the sound of insects chirping, and the cool air… make anyone want to immerse themselves in the natural scenery and feel the four seasons of the year. The dawn dispels the morning dew, the gentle sunlight through the floating clouds and the chilly autumn breeze. It will turn cold in the afternoon, making those who forget to bring a light jacket shrunk closer together. The smell of baked potatoes, the smell of steamed sticky rice in the pot spread throughout the kitchen can make anyone’s stomach boil in the late afternoon. Located on Yen Bai – Nghia Lo – Mu Cang Chai road, Tram Tau can be a stopover in the next travel schedule of tourists, but it can also be a suitable destination for a short trip. From Tram Tau, you can go to Mu Cang Chai to watch rice or conquer the top of Ta Xua mountain to hunt for clouds, or explore attractive places such as Phu Luong mountain, climb Ta Chi Nhu mountain with the flower season like a purple carpet. stretched and covered the mountain slopes. Come to Tram Tau, wander in the villages, chat with H’Mong and Thai girls, learn and experience the cultural life of the people here, enjoy typical dishes such as: Five-color sticky rice, coriander, black Chung cake, bamboo shoots, stream moss, fried bee bamboo shoots, black chicken, drink Shan Tuyet Phinh Ho tea. Currently, Tram Tau is still quite pristine, with little human intervention in the natural landscape, so it is beautiful all year round. In May and June, Tram Tau terraced fields enter the pouring season. The rice season ripens in September and October, when the rice turns yellow, Tram Tau reflects the beauty of labor again, the girls in traditional costumes hide and reap on the golden rice fields. In recent years, Tram Tau tourism has developed. Many homestays, accommodation and dining services, etc. managed by local people have been expanded, contributing to completing the chain of experience activities to serve tourists. Besides experiential mountaineering tourism, community tourism… ecotourism, resort in Tram Tau is a promising model when taking advantage and exploiting the available potential with unique and rich cultural features. .

Image of floods in Central Vietnam in 2020, one of the natural losses of Vietnam. A global study commissioned by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and commissioned by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), shows that public interest in nature has increased markedly (16%). ) over the past five years and continues to increase during the Covid-19 pandemic. The figures are released ahead of the United Nations’ International Day of Biodiversity (May 22), the date chosen to increase public understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. Expressing growing concern about nature People around the world, especially in emerging economies, are becoming more aware of the planet’s environmental crisis. This has impacted their behavior, especially as a wave of what WWF calls an “ecological awakening” is growing. Current trends also show that the behavior of individuals and consumers is affected by these concerns and they demand drastic action to address the loss of nature and biodiversity. The report “Ecological Awakening: Measuring Global Awareness, Participation and Action for Nature” shows that environmental activism is exploding in online media. Over the past four years, mentions of environmental issues on Twitter have increased by 65%, with the topic of nature and biodiversity increasing from 30 million to 50 million. Many influential individuals and entities such as spiritual leaders, politicians and media organizations, news and celebrities, have spoken out for nature, with social media posts. The festival reaches more than 1 billion audiences worldwide. The study also shows that consumers are increasing their interest in nature through Google searches related to this topic, especially in Asian and Latin American countries such as Indonesia (increased). 53%) and India (up 190%). Many consumers around the world are changing their behavior In addition, more and more people are realizing the loss of nature is a serious global problem. Specifically, 96% of people living in Latin America agree with this when surveyed (the region with the highest percentage). This shift from the community reflects a fact worth pondering, as people in developing regions are experiencing more devastating effects from the loss of nature than elsewhere. After an era of protest marches and petitions, now more and more consumers around the world are changing their behavior such as adjusting their buying habits, buying only what is right for them. with their values and needs. The analysis shows a staggering 71% increase in search results for sustainable products since 2016, popular in high-income countries, such as the UK, US, Germany, Australia and Canada. However, this trend is not only found in these economies, but also appears and increases in emerging economies or developing countries such as Indonesia (24%) and Ecuador (120%). This pressure is forcing manufacturing corporations to respond with action, especially in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, fashion and food sectors. Since 2016, more than 159 million signatures for biodiversity-related campaigns have been collected, along with an increase in the magnitude and frequency of protests worldwide to demand requires decision-makers to take drastic action for the planet and future generations, in the face of growing nature conservation movements. Information about Southeast Asian countries in the report. Immediate action is needed to prevent damage to nature However, despite the tremendous rate of destruction of nature and the threat this devastation poses to the global economy and human health, nature is rarely a high-priority topic. global agendas. “Scientists and economists have understood. The public was well aware. And the solutions are also obvious. Both the community and society are supporting the process of transforming economic models and sustainable development in which the protection of nature is considered a moral obligation, in return for the life that the earth brings as well as the vital service this planet provides to our economy, welfare, health and security. This is truly an historic “ecological awakening” and an opportunity to rebalance man’s relationship with nature,” said Marco Lambertini, WWF International Director General. The loss of nature is increasing humanity’s vulnerability to pandemics, undermining efforts to tackle the climate crisis and threatening livelihoods. Leaders are expected to make key decisions later this year on climate and environmental issues. These decisions could represent an important opportunity to reverse biodiversity loss, ensure nature is restored this decade, and support climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals. According to this report, Vietnam, a country with a high level of biodiversity – joined the Climate Change Working Group of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2021. As a country As a member, Vietnam will participate in regional initiatives such as preventing ocean plastic waste, initiatives to tackle air pollution and transboundary water pollution.

Cu Lao Cham Marine Sanctuary in Quang Nam. Tourism potential from white-necked langurs The white-necked langur was discovered by local people in 2012 on the limestone mountain in Thach Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province. Since then, thanks to the strict protection of functional forces and the coordination of residential communities and voluntary protection groups, the white-necked langur herd has grown in number. In 2018, the People’s Committee of Quang Binh province planned a part of the forest to become a special-use forest to balance the needs of conservation and exploitation. According to the survey results of the Center for Indigenous Knowledge Research and Development (CIRD) in collaboration with the Provincial Forest Protection Department, there are 22 herds and 156 white-necked langurs in 3 main areas: Dong Hoa commune, Thach Hoa and Thuan Hoa belong to Tuyen Hoa district. If before, you needed binoculars to see the langurs, now, the langurs are increasingly bold, with our naked eyes we can also look, watch them feed, play in the trees or on the rocks. craggy, according to a representative of the CIRD Center. The appearance of creatures listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world in this area has attracted many photographers, scientists and tourists to come here, creating opportunities for the development of various types of eco-tourism. Recently, Chairman of Thach Hoa Commune People’s Committee said that the locality is orienting to develop community tourism and experience tourism in order to change industries and improve incomes for people. people. Although people are still mainly engaged in agriculture, do not have much investment capital, plus difficulties due to epidemics, the potential for community-based tourism development associated with biodiversity is a long-term problem, helping to solve the problem of sustainable livelihoods for residents. Volunteer groups to protect the white-necked langurs in villages and communes will be oriented to become tour guides, helping guide people to learn, research, take photos, admire the white-necked langurs… Along with At that time, visitors can also combine sightseeing and experience with other destinations and events such as Tran Tao weapons factory (Dong Hoa commune), the grave and church of Admiral Le Truc (Tien Hoa commune), the cave. Len Ha (Thanh Hoa commune), Cau Ca Tang (Lam Hoa commune), boat racing festival in Tuyen Hoa district… In order to promote tourism potential in a sustainable way, local authorities pay special attention to continuing to promote the core role of voluntary conservation groups and local people. Lessons from Cham Island Recently, in the program “Honoring organizations and individuals; replicating advanced examples with many achievements contributing to wildlife conservation in the period 2010 – 2020″ organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Selection Council also recognized the initiatives and solutions. community contributes to improving the effectiveness of efforts of all levels, sectors and the whole society in species conservation. A sustainable tourism model based on biodiversity can be mentioned as the Museum of Marine Life on Cu Lao Cham Island, Tan Hiep Island Commune, Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province. The marine reserve displays hundreds of fish with many different shapes, along with many rare specimens of shrimp, crab, turtle, marine coral … Worth mentioning, at first, the fishermen here just wanted to save samples and images of sea creatures to teach their children and grandchildren how to fish so that they can both profit from the sea and preserve the seed source for later. Gradually, these accumulations have created a unique ecological destination for this place, attracting many tourists to explore, paving the way for sustainable tourism. Accompanied by other cultural features such as Hai Tang pagoda, Champa ancient well, four heritage trees and the temple of nest craft. In addition to the service of diving to see corals and enjoying specialties of bird’s nest water, another highlight is a specimen of sea turtles over a hundred years old with intact dimensions on display. This is also part of the message conveyed to tourists and indigenous people: After many years of tourism exploitation, sea turtles are rarely found along the island, but tend to move to live and lay eggs on islands. small island. According to a representative of Cu Lao Cham Marine Protected Area, for many years now, fishermen on the island have been trained as a model of community tourism, saying no to plastic bags and plastic waste, accompanied by tasks of biodiversity conservation. learn. However, tourism development cannot avoid harming nature, landscapes and creatures, which requires greater responsibility from management agencies, travel agencies and visitors. However, the most important thing is the awareness of preserving and preserving nature of the local people. As nature and living things develop, their livelihoods based on such natural services will grow accordingly. Only when they understand that can they become enthusiastic propagandists, proactively guiding visitors to comply.

With the Gen Z student council, taking the yearbook is no longer the “privilege” of the senior course, but now at the end of the school year, the classes are busy discussing, inviting each other to make quality photo albums to keep memories together.

When taking the yearbook becomes too easy, the matter of choosing the “concept” for the set of photos is a matter that deserves attention. Surely everyone wants “our class” to have a unique, creative and memorable photo album. But you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a good set of photos. It is important to choose a suitable “concept”, with investment in ideas, settings, costumes, accessories … Even weather factors must be taken into account, in order to capture the yearbook. are unforgettable moments, not wasted in terms of time and money, causing physical and mental fatigue. If your class is in the time of studying, choose “concept” to make the year-end yearbook album, invite you to immediately refer to the unique and interesting ideas in the photo series by photographer Peak C (Thailand ) perform. The series of photos taken by photographer Peak C tells a story of youthful and emotional clarity. With clear tones cut out from movies revolving around the theme of youth, photographer Peak C captured the memorable moments of the girls at a school in Thailand. In the photo shoot, the female students dressed in simple, colorless uniforms, taking advantage of the classroom space, the top floor, the stairs, and the school parking lot as a backdrop, making the album exuding intimacy, brightly. The female students in this photo shoot only wear uniforms but still make the viewers flutter.
Oos Lions, hyenas and other predators still stalk the wildebeest, preventing them from eating too much of the plant. The variety of plants and grass supports other species, from fish birds to insects. In turn, these animals carry seeds or pollen throughout the plains, creating conditions for many types of plants to reproduce. Humans also appear there, but with relatively meager density. This is a prime example of an intact ecosystem: complex relationships that together maintain the rich diversity of the Earth. According to a survey of the ecosystems on Earth, most of the land on Earth – about 97% – no longer qualifies for ecological integrity. Researchers announced on April 15 in the journal Frontiers in Forest and Global Change: in the past 500 years, too many species have been either extinct or in decline. Specifically, scientists set the year 1500 AD, which means that only parts of the world are ecologically intact like 500 years ago with the addition of species of similar abundance. can be considered a wilderness. As a result, only 2.8% of planet Earth’s surface matches the description. These “wild plaques”, each with an area of 10,000 square kilometers or more, are scattered in various parts of the world. Of the few intact ecosystems, only about 11% of the land is in existing protected areas. These include Nouabale-Ndoki National Park in Congo, Serengeti-Ngorongoro in Tanzania, Alto Rio Negro indigenous territory in the Amazon forest, Great Siberian Polynya in northern Russia, and Kawésqar National Park in southern Chile. These are very rare and special places to be preserved, but only 11% of them are in protected areas. “Those are the best of the best, the last places on Earth have not lost a species as we know it,” said Oscar Venter, a conservation scientist at the University of North British Columbia. . It is important to identify such places, he said, especially for areas under development threats that need protection, such as the Amazon rainforest. Conservation scientists have long tried to map places that have not been affected by human activity. Researchers estimate that 20-40% of the Earth’s soil surface can be considered ecologically intact. But what can be detected by satellite is the ugly reality of the true extent of wildlife habitat. Beneath the seemingly intact tree canopy, the extinction of mammals and large birds from hunting, invasive species or disease has undermined the biodiversity of the areas. wild in the world. Biologist Andrew Plumptre, University of Cambridge said: “Hunting, impact of invasive species, climate change – these can harm ecosystems, but they are not easily detected. right through the satellite ”. Plumptre and his colleagues began looking for habitats that fully retain natural species, in abundance, in 1500 AD. That is the basis that the International Union for Conservation of Nature uses to evaluate the extinction of species, even though humans have changed their ecosystems by wiping out many large mammals over the past thousands of years. Overall, the amount of ecologically intact soil “is much lower than we expected,” said Plumptre. This shows how terribly man has affected nature. Some scientists question whether study authors are too strict in their definition of ecosystem integrity. Many ecosystems around the world have lost one or two species, but they remain vibrant, diverse communities. The decline of some species may not cause a catastrophe to the entire ecosystem, as other species may replace the role of lost species. The researchers calculated that while only 3% of the land is currently ecologically intact, bringing in up to five species lost could restore 20% of the land as before. This helps the ecosystem gradually return to balance.

Teacher Nguyen Minh Trung, teacher at Gia Dinh High School, Ho Chi Minh City, has taken notes to help grade 12 students master Part 7 of Ecology (Biology) to prepare for the upcoming high school graduation exam. next.

12th grade students AT.1 Gia Dinh High School in Biology class. Illustration Ecology (Biology grade 12) is the part with close knowledge, easy to deduce, so it can be called “easy”. However, the amount of knowledge in this section is very much, so if not codified, it will be “difficult”. Ecology section consists of 3 chapters, 11 lessons, students need to systematize knowledge and understand ecological terms. Specifically in Lesson 35 Habitat and ecological factors , in Chapter I Individuals and biomes , students need the system of ecological factors to include Infertility factor (physical factor and chemical factor) and the existential factor (the organic world and the relationship between organisms). The example in the reference year 2021 Question 87: Which of the following ecological factors is the infertility factor? A. Worm. B. Light. C. Worms that eat rice leaves. D. Rice plants. We can easily know that answers A, C, D belong to the existential factor, and answer B is the physical factor – the infertility factor. Besides, we need to understand about ecological limit and ecological drive. In the ecological limit, it is necessary to know the tolerance interval, the favorable interval, the lethal point, the positive point and we can adopt the example of the ecological limit of Tilapia for easier understanding. Students need to be able to distinguish ecological drive and accommodation to avoid confusion we can remember accommodation is just a place of residence still Ecological drive shows the way that species lives. Next, we need to note about the adaptation of the organism to temperature, it is necessary to understand the two Principles of Becman and Alen. Becman’s Rule tells us that “Thermostats live in temperate regions larger body size compared with animals of the same species or closely related species living in warm tropics. We can remember quickly “Body size: animals in temperate> tropical animals”. About the Anlen rule “ Tropical animals that live in temperate regions have ears, tails, and limbs usually smaller ears, tails, and limbs of similar animals living in hot regions ”. Can remember quickly “ Sizing of parts: tropical animals> temperate animals “. Students in grade 12AT.1, Gia Dinh High School are making mind maps for lesson 35 One of the content that frequently appears in the exam is Lesson 40 Biomes and some basic features of biomes. First of all, they need a system of relationships between species in a community. Example from 2021 references Question 89: In biomes, which of the following ecological relationships belong to the supportive relationship between species. A. Parasites. B. Inhibition – sensitization. C. Competition. D. Symbiosis. When the systematization is easy, we can immediately choose the answer D. At the same time, it is necessary to understand relationship forms and take illustrative examples to easily remember. Test papers often give specific examples asking what relationship it is? Example from 2021 references Question 95: During the breeding season, females in the stork population compete for a favorable place to nest. Here’s an example of a relationship A. competing for the same species. B. supporting the same species. C. Assembly. D. cooperation. Based on the title “female individuals in the stork population” meaning “of the same species”, they “contested”. , We conclude this is an example of a competitive relationship with a species. So for this type of question, we rely on phrases, keywords, and clauses of the question to make inferences. The next and most frequently appearing examples on the test are food chains and food webs. Regarding the food chain, we need to note that there are two types of food chains: the food chain starts from the autotrophic organism and the food chain starts from the organic humus decomposing organism. In food chains and webs, it is easy to confuse the “number” between the nutrient level and the consuming organism. Illustration : Floating plants -> Invertebrates -> Small fish -> Large fish Floating plants are organisms that produce a level 1 nutrient Invertebrates are a primary consumer but are a tier 2 nutrient. Small fish is a tier 2 consumer but is a tier 3 nutrient. Larger fish are tertiary consumers but are a level 4 consumer. Example from 2021 references Question 103: Feeding the food chain: Rice plants Deep eating rice leaves Field frog Hawthorn cobra. In this food chain, which organism belongs to the tertiary consumer group? A. The hawk. B. The bronze frog. C. Worms that eat rice leaves. D. Cobra. With a clear understanding and clear knowledge system, it is easy to identify the Cobra as a third-order consumer. Through basic analysis of the above contents, we easily recognize one thing: Knowledge of Ecology is not difficult, just systematized by mind maps, images, tables, … then we easily solve the questions in the exam. Please plan to systematize your knowledge with mind maps for the Ecology section to do well the 7 questions of Ecology in the high school graduation exam. Based on the 2021 high school graduation exam illustrative exam questions, we can see that the Genetic Mechanism and Variation 9 sentences (with 1 sentence of high application), The genetic rule has 10 sentences (4 sentences with high volatility 2-sentence population genetics (1 sentence highly manipulated), 1-sentence application of genetics, 1-sentence Genealogy genetics, 6-sentence evolution (1 sentence to apply), 7-sentence ecology (1 sentence and Biology in Grade 11 has 4 sentences. Thus, basic knowledge is 7.5 points, applying 1.5 points low and applying 1 point high. We can see that the content of Biology subject with a huge amount of knowledge, to facilitate learning and review students need to systematize knowledge is essential. If students have a clear study and study plan, scoring 7-8 is entirely possible.

Experts and scientists on marine environment and ecology all expressed concern that submerging 200,000 m3 of material into Da Nang’s sea would harm the marine ecosystem.

With the People’s Committee of Da Nang City in principle agreeing to the Vietnam Maritime Administration (Ministry of Transport) to research, survey and implement procedures for submerging 200,000 m3 of material in the sea of Da Nang, experts say. There is a need for a careful assessment of the environmental impact (EIA).

Danang’s marine ecosystem is in decline

Associate Professor-Dr. Vo Van Minh, Chairman of the Council of Da Nang Pedagogical University, said that if there is no other dumping site, there is only way to sink into the sea. However, where to sink, in EIA techniques, it is necessary to determine which sea is the safest, least damaging to the environment.

“Currently, the waters of Danang are not included in the group of protected areas, so it can be submerged. However, from an environmental perspective, falling there will certainly affect immediately, especially coral reefs and seagrass areas. These areas are very important for their habitat and breeding grounds for marine life. Surely it will disturb the environment, affect species of marine fauna and flora “- Mr. Minh said.

Mr. Minh emphasized that in the EIA technique, it is only said to minimize to the lowest level, in the permitted level, not say that it is not impacting. Da Nang’s marine ecosystem is in decline, especially the coral system due to poor conservation, tourism and wastewater impacts.

“I want the EIAs to consult with scientists, but if they do not do well, it is dangerous for the environment” – Mr. Minh worried.

According to Dr. Nguyen Tac An, former Director of Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, in order to carefully analyze the EIA capacity of submerging, it is necessary to understand the dredging method and the submerged technique. It can be said that all the material in the sea when lying still is okay, but when touched and bounced, many problems occurred. Therefore, it is okay to say just taking this place and leaving that place.

Mr. An said that the submergence principle must stay away from sensitive areas such as residential areas, fishing grounds, protected areas and special values of the sea. In addition, when submerged, it is necessary to avoid seas with strong motivations.

“Actually we dumped it, but it will run away. Submerging techniques must be very attentive. Must see if the quality of sediment and chemicals in the area we scraped up is toxic or not. This EIA agency is aware of both. The dynamic maps in Vietnam nowadays all have them. Therefore, when pouring, it must be considered and calculated. The EIA agency will have to take physical samples for testing, calculate the propagation pattern, size, dredging and dredging time “- Mr. An noted.

Mr. An emphasized: Dredging the sea channel is very important for economic development. Dredging cannot be helped. However, how to minimize the impact of the dredger to increase the overall economic value.

Experts believe that when evaluating the EIA, it is necessary to determine which sea area is safe, with the least damage to the environment. Photo: LE PHI

Dredging the sea channel into Tien Sa port will create 200,000 m3 of material and be calculated to submerge in the waters of Da Nang. Photo: TAN VIET

Worry about coral reefs

Talking about the material submerged in Da Nang sea, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, Dean of the Faculty of Environment – Chemical Technology (Duy Tan University), assessed that 200,000 m3 of material is much and will definitely affect the system. marine ecology.

“The affirmation is always going to impact the ecosystem. When we poured like that, we thought it would lie there, but in fact it was not there at all, it had extremely large currents, so it would be swept away. Must see under that sea there are corals or not, because the most fear is the influence of the coral. When pouring like that, the coral cannot withstand the mud, when the water is too turbid, the symbiotic algae of the coral dies and makes the entire coral carpet die “- Ms. Phuong said.

Ms. Phuong further analyzed the great possibility that the sea area is expected to be submerged deep enough that there are no live corals. Most worrying, however, is that the currents will sweep matter around. Especially sediments, if heavy sediments will be deposited, and fine-grained sediments will be swept away.

“Saying a 100-hectare sea area, it will actually wash away very far. The sediment in the dredging site is likely to be fine-grained, not coarse-grained sediment. Fine means it is light, can be washed away, coarse grain is deposited in place and moves slowly. In a period of a few years it will be swept away everywhere and swept seasonally, because the flow changes with the seasons. Wherever the flow is, the coral will die there. The symbiotic algae of the coral needs light, the coral ecosystem is extremely important. And the bottom ecosystem will be temporarily destroyed for a while, then recover “- Ms. Phuong said.

Ms. Phuong added that from a management perspective, any project will have an impact on the environment. If you consider the environmental impact less than the likelihood of economic development, that’s okay, it’s worth the tradeoff.

“Also saying no effect is not right. The impact at sea is difficult to control. If other ecosystems can recover over time, the corals will not, die will die ”- Ms. Phuong affirmed.

177 species of corals around Son Tra peninsula From 2016 to 2018, the Southern Institute of Ecology had the topic “Research on conservation and biodiversity restoration of terrestrial and underwater ecosystems in Son Tra Nature Reserve”. After nearly three years of restoration, the live coral cover increased by more than 10% compared to baseline. There is an increase in organisms living in the reef. The coverage of seagrass beds increases about 20% -30%. According to research by the Southern Institute of Ecology in 2019, the sea surrounding Son Tra peninsula has 177 species of coral belonging to 17 families and 52 varieties. There are also 130 species of fish living in coral reefs, belonging to 32 families and 65 varieties. This sea also has three species of seagrass distributed over a total area of 1 ha and 108 species of extremely diverse seaweed. However, the marine ecosystem here is seriously degraded.

Specifically, the height of Vietnamese youth in the 18-year-old male group by 2020 will reach 168.1 cm (an increase of 3.7 cm compared to 2010). This figure for women is 156.2 cm (an increase of 2.4 cm compared to 2010).

In addition, this result also shows that the average energy level in the Vietnamese diet is 2,023 calories / person / day, a slight increase compared to 1,925 calories in 2010.

According to the survey results, the amount of vegetables and fruits in Vietnam has increased, but only reached 66.4 – 77.4% of the recommended demand from the nutrition pyramid. Meanwhile, Vietnamese people are consuming more meat with 136.4 g / person / day (compared with 84 g in 2010).

Notably, at schools in the city, the consumption of soft drinks and fast food tends to increase. Parallel is the rate of overweight and obesity among school-age children (5-19 years old), increasing from 8.5% in 2010 to 19% in 2020.

The rate of meat consumption of Vietnamese people increased rapidly, while vegetables and fruits still did not meet the recommendation. Photo: Eatthisnotthat.

In contrast, the rate of stunting in children under 5 years old nationwide is 19.6%. This rate is ranked as average by the World Health Organization (WHO). Vietnam still has regional disparities in stunting rates.

Meanwhile, the proportion of Vietnamese people with preclinical vitamin A deficiency and anemia was mild. However, the number of people with zinc deficiency is quite large, especially for high-risk groups such as children, mothers …

At the Conference announcing the results of the National Nutrition Census 2019-2020, Ms. Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, said that the triple burden of nutrition, including stunting and overweight fertility and micronutrient deficiency, Vietnam needs urgent interventions, reviewing and improving its approach.

Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said: “This Census of Nutrition is the largest scale ever. The survey was conducted on a national scale with 22,400 households in 25 provinces and cities. representing 6 ecological regions; simultaneously collecting indicators on anthropology, micronutrients, individual diets as well as information on food security and food safety and hygiene “.

Meanwhile, Professor, Dr. Le Danh Tuyen, Director of the National Institute of Nutrition, said that this National Nutrition Census has important implications in evaluating the goals of the National Strategy on Nutrition. period 2011-2020 and provide scientific evidence to serve the drafting of the strategy for the next phase.

After 10 years, Vietnam has achieved many achievements in nutrition. However, we still face some challenges such as overweight, obesity in children or increasing meat consumption …

The National Nutrition Survey is conducted every 10 years, implemented by the National Institute of Nutrition in cooperation with the General Statistics Office, and is supported by many international organizations.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen, this Census (2019 – 2020) has the largest scale ever in the country, with the participation of 22,400 households in 25 provinces, represents 6 ecological regions.

The research team has simultaneously collected indicators on anthropology, micronutrients, individual diets, as well as information on food security and food safety and hygiene.

Information at the Conference to announce the results of the National Nutrition Census held on the morning of April 15, Prof. Dr. Le Danh Tuyen, Director of the National Institute of Nutrition said, the census results showed that after 10 years Vietnam has achieved many achievements in nutrition such as growth in height, reduction of the rate of stunting and malnutrition …

However, we still face many challenges such as increasing the rate of overweight, obesity in children or rapid increase in meat consumption …

Prof. Le Danh Tuyen, Director of National Institute of Nutrition presented the results of the National Nutrition Survey 2019-2020 – Photo: Nguyen Lien

Seven main results are announced after the National Nutrition Census:

Meat consumption increased rapidly, the amount of vegetables and fruits consumed was small

According to survey results, the average energy in Vietnamese diets is 2,023 kcal / person / day, a slight increase compared to 1,925 kcal / person / day in 2010. Structure of energy generation from protein, lipids and glucide (2020) is: 15.8% – 20.2% – 64% (compared with total energy intake). This structure is considered balanced as recommended for the Vietnamese people.

The average level of consumption of vegetables and fruits per capita increased from 190.4g vegetables / person / day; 60.9g of ripe fruit / person / day (2010) to 231.0g of vegetables / person / day; 140.7g ripe fruit / person / day (2020). However, this consumption is only about 66.4 – 77.4% compared with the recommended requirement of the Nutrition Tower for adults.

Meanwhile, meat consumption increased rapidly: from 84g / person / day (average meat consumption nationwide in 2010) to 136.4g / person / day (by 2020); consumption in urban areas is higher, at 155.3g / person / day (2020).

Rice consumption tends to decrease. There is a growing trend in city schools to increase the consumption of soft drinks and fast foods.

The rate of stunting in children under 5 years old has reached average level

From the survey results, the rate of stunting (height / age) among children under 5 years old nationwide is 19.6%, which is ranked at the average level according to World Health Organization classification ( level below 20%).

Thus, up to now, Vietnam is on track to achieve the Global Nutrition Target (reducing 40% of child stunting malnutrition by 2025). However, there are still disparities between regions in terms of stunting rates of undernutrition. In rural and mountainous areas, this rate is still high.

Achieved height of Vietnamese youth

According to the research team, the height of Vietnamese people has significantly changed in the group of 18-year-old male youth (reaching 168.1cm in 2020, an increase of 3.7cm compared to 2010: 164.4cm), and young female (reaching 156 2cm in 2020, an increase of 1.4cm compared to 2010: 154.8cm).

The rate of overweight and obese children increases rapidly

The rate of overweight and obesity among school-age children (5-19 years old) increases from 8.5% in 2010 to 19% by 2020. In which, the rate of overweight and obesity in urban areas is 26, 8%, 18.3% in rural areas and 6.9% in mountainous areas.

The rate of stunting in school age is 14.8% (in 2010, this rate was 23.4%).

Deficiency of micronutrients

The results of the Census show that the lack of micronutrients of the Vietnamese people has improved significantly. The prevalence of preclinical vitamin A deficiency and anemia was mild in the public health significance (only for pregnant women, the rate of anemia was moderate). The incidence of preclinical vitamin A deficiency in children 6-59 months decreased. However, zinc deficiency remains high, especially in high-risk subjects such as children and mothers.

About zinc deficiency:Nationally, the rate of zinc deficiency in children aged 6-59 months decreased to 58%, in pregnant women decreased to 63.5%, but remained at a significant level of public health significance according to WHO assessment.

This rate is still very high for children aged 6-59 months in the Northern Uplands (67.7%) and Central Highlands (66.6%) and even higher for pregnant women in the mountainous areas. the North (81.9%) and the Central Highlands (63.9%).

Especially in the metropolitan area for the past 5 years (2015-2020), the rate of zinc deficiency in children 6-59 months old has a high level of public health significance (49.6%) and almost no improvement.

About Vitamin A deficiency: The prevalence of preclinical vitamin A deficiency in children aged 6-59 months across the country decreased at the mild community significance level (9.5%). This proportion is still highest in the Northern Uplands (13.8%) and the Central Highlands (11.0%).

The prevalence of preclinical vitamin A deficiency in children aged 5-9 years is 4.9%, at a mild level of public health significance as assessed by WHO.

Intervention of high dose vitamin A capsules has been implemented for many decades, but the incidence of preclinical vitamin A deficiency in children 6-59 months of age has remained mild and has decreased slowly in recent years.

About anemia: The rate of anemia among children aged 6-59 months nationwide decreased at the community significance level of 19.6%. This proportion is still highest in the Northern Uplands (23.4%) and the Central Highlands (26.3%).

Rate of anemia in children 5-9 years old (9.2%); in children 10-14 years old (8.4%), are at the level of mild public health significance according to WHO assessment.

Rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months

According to the collected data, the proportion of infants exclusively breastfed in the first 6 months improved significantly, increasing from 19.6% (2010) to 45.4% (2020). In which, in urban areas, this rate is 55.7%, rural areas 40.3% and mountainous rural areas 42.7%.

Knowledge and practice of food safety

The proportion of people with correct food safety knowledge and practices improved significantly: 35.8% of the respondents had good knowledge; 55.6% had average knowledge and only 8.6% had poor knowledge.

Regarding food poisoning treatment: 78% of respondents choose to send patients to medical facilities for treatment compared with 44.9% in 2010; The proportion of people having access to official food safety information has also doubled compared with the 2010 survey.

Assessing the results of the implementation of the National Strategy on Nutrition for the period 2011-2020, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said that Vietnam has basically achieved the goal of reducing the malnutrition of young mothers. children.

However, we have not yet met the indicators related to improving micronutrient deficiency, overweight and obesity control in adults and some indicators related to improving capacity to implement the Strategy. .

Mr. Tuyen emphasized that, with the results of the General Nutrition Survey announced this time, we will have orientations to develop the Strategy for the new phase, specifically:

– Increasing investment in essential nutritional interventions during the 1,000 golden days, including nutrition before / during pregnancy, nutrition for breastfeeding mothers, breastfeeding and complementary food. Integrate nutritional interventions in ensuring universal health coverage.

Efforts are being made to address the rapidly growing overweight and obesity among children, adolescents and adults. An approach to the entire food system is needed in response to urbanization and the challenges of the food system, helping people access a healthy and healthy diet. There is a need to improve legislation governing food and diet systems, in conjunction with targeted poverty reduction measures and changing eating behavior among specific population groups.

– Strategic investment and system restructuring are needed to achieve greater equity among ethnic minorities and mountainous areas. At the same time, there should be specific nutritional improvement targets for ethnic minorities and disadvantaged areas.

– It is necessary to shift nutrition from being seen as a medical issue to multidisciplinary engagement and participation. Integrating nutritional strategy into the mandate of other key industries can only change with institutional reform, allowing high-level convening, engagement, and coordination across sectors to address underlying causes. of different forms of malnutrition.

Two months after 8 consecutive floods landed in Hoi An area in October and November 2020, the bank of Thu Bon river of Triem Tay village in Dien Ban town, Quang Nam was still in ruins. The lush, green two-year-old forest was almost dead when, leaving dry branches mixed with garbage from upstream pouring in, accompanied by the fishy smell of dead fish.

“Trees soaked in water for 20 days cannot survive,” said landscape planner Ngo Anh Dao, who has planted dull forests along the 650m long shore of Triem Tay and neighboring Cam Kim commune since 2018. Sad is sad, she said, but this is the law of nature.

The cork tree is the body

According to TS. Ngo Anh Dao is “a pioneer tree and a sacrifice for the posterior generation behind.” As a result, although the number of poor trees is only 1/3, the riverbank of Trem Tay village does not erode like in the previous years when floods came.

This poor forest is the outermost layer of an ecological soft embankment coping with landslide. Anh Dao put it to the test at her farm An Nhien after the historic flood in 2017 seeped 12ha of the riverbank area. Before the embankment was constructed, each time the flood came, the banks of the Trem Tay River would recede more than ten meters deep and many villagers determined that they would have to leave sooner or later.

TS. Ngo Anh Dao, the concept designer of the ecological embankment. Photo: Yen Duong

The ecological soft embankment model is the result of many years of observation and research by TS. Anh Dao goes downstream of Thu Bon river. She does not consider this as a new invention but simply a process of restoring indigenous ecosystems.

“This is a very sensitive and fragile area,” said the female landscape planner, when she was under pressure from the water pouring in from the Truong Son mountain range, and the pressure from waves and storms. Just comparing the map of Thu Bon river basin from 1984 with the present, anyone can recognize the appearance, swelling and disappearance of floating dunes. If more than 30 years ago, there were four large and small sand dunes in front of Trem Tay, over time, the side of the mudslide, now they have formed a large dune deviating to the north, causing the flow from upstream to crash into the bank of Trem Tay village and the neighboring Cam Kim commune. Therefore, every time the flood comes, the Trem Tay bank will slide and the other sand dune bank accretes.

The villagers of Trem Tay seem to be too familiar with this harsh law of nature. At the age of 54, Pham Duoc had to move his house twice despite being born and raised in this village. His first home was at the head of the village but by the age of twenty, he was forced to move to the middle of the village. In 2009, the commune authorities urged him to continue to move, but because of “comfortable housing, a garden, a chicken”, he decided to stay. However, after the historic flood in 2017, when the water flooded to 1.6 meters deep, he got scared and decided to demolish the house, sell the land and move to his current home at the end of the village.

“I wanted to build a house to leave for the children, so I accepted it,” he was told. Each time like that, he “is not sad” because “has to accept it.”

Also because of the desire to keep the village and have a passion for planting trees, this builder began to work as TS’s farm housekeeper. Anh Dao from 2016 on a piece of land at the end of the village abandoned because some people have retreated inland like Mr. Can. Others, especially the young, have quit farming because their rice land is either no longer available or salty, and go to work on tourism in Hoi An or Da Nang.

On this wasteland, Mr. Can and other workers have built wooden houses with modern designs, combining the high structure of stilt houses with indigenous materials such as bamboo and grass. The houses are mixed with nursery gardens and research of diversity of plants.

Standing from the house overlooking the river bank is a bamboo forest that villagers planted in the 1980s to prevent floods. “Thanks to this bamboo forest, when the flood comes, the flow will decrease”, he is explained. “Like when water runs through that basket.”

In front of the bamboo forest, along the riverbank is the ecological embankment.

Use “soft” against “hard”

Different from the commonly applied concrete hard revetment in Vietnam, the soft revetment does not resist the destruction of waves and floods but backs and accepts it – more similar to the village motto of living with floods. This 200 years old.

“The current popular philosophy is that people are fighting against nature, conquering nature with hard solutions and ignoring the understanding of coastal ecosystems, the access between water and land”, PhD. Mr. Dao analyzed. “Thinking like conquering nature, using it hard against the power of nature will be terrible because its destructive power will be even greater.”

Principle TS. Cherry mentioned that the law is immutable in physics: punching a wall with your hand will always hurt more if you punch the mattress with the same force. And given the increasing intensity and destructive power of storms and floods due to the effects of climate change, new coping measures are becoming more and more imperative to minimize damage from dike breaks.

Illustration of three-layer ecological soft embankment used to cope with the landslide of TS. Ngo Anh Dao. Illustration: lambinh

In the design of the ecological embankment, the cork tree is TS. Cherry brought back to plant from Quang Tri, is the outer layer of the buffer protecting the village shore. The roots of this plant are of two types. The main root is poked straight down, possibly up to ten meters deep. The secondary roots, also known as lung roots, are precipitated when immature, soft and swaying with the waves. When the tree grows, this lung root hardens, protrudes from the mud about 60-80cm, very hard. Therefore, cork trees have the ability to accumulate mud, hold soil, and reduce the destructive power of underground waves.

Next to the cork layer is a layer of grass, including native grasses such as hammer grass, grass with bald roots that can be up to 3m deep below the ground, next to the pangasius is a two-leafed tree, the roots are even deeper. tens of meters. These are easy-to-live, fast-growing plants with good soil holding capacity.

The last layer is a row of casuarina trees planted from 2017 that are 8m high. In addition to the ability to hold soil, the height and softness of the conifers help to both block waves and windbreak.

These three layers together create a green vegetation reinforced with bamboo biological “lock” layers to support soil retention in the early years when the layers are young, the roots are not deep enough.

With the initial results achieved, TS. Anh Dao is confident that the philosophy behind this model is the right direction for the sensitive downstream areas that are suffering from both natural disasters and natural disasters. The flood discharge of dozens of hydroelectricity upstream; exploitation of sand in the river bed; monoculture agriculture, improper exploitation of groundwater, causing subsidence; along with tourism development, regardless of the fragility of the ground here, all contribute to increasing the risk of landslides in the area, he explained.

Natural balance

Realizing the initial efficiency of the project, in addition to the affordable price – the construction cost of 1 meter of ecological embankment is only 1/5 of the cost of building the concrete embankment – Hoi An government plans to extend 900m of longitudinal embankment. According to the territory of Phuoc Thang village in the neighboring Cam Kim commune, where after the flood in 2017, the bank fell 50 meters deep into the mainland.

However, the ecological embankment is not without its risks. “An embankment requires a tree to develop to a certain extent to be effective,” said Nguyen The Hung, vice president of Hoi An city. This is a fact to consider when choosing the time to start planting trees for ecological embankments because according to the experience of the Hoi An people, every three to five years a big flood will repeat and the poor forest also needs that many years. to be able to cope with floods.

The most obvious evidence is the initial failures in the construction of ecological embankments by TS. Cherry. In fact, the horticultural forest she planted in 2018 was the second test after the failure of 2017, when the historic flood hit and killed the immature cork trees that were only one year old.

Therefore, each ecological embankment requires a deep understanding of the local soil and climate. Invited by the authorities of Dak Nong and Dak Lak to study the replication of an ecological embankment model for the Krong No riverbank, which is suffering from severe landslides, PhD. Anh Dao cannot carry the whole model from An Nhien. The key thing that does not change is the principle of using measures of “soft, back and forth” instead of “forward and conquer”.

Post-flood cleaning in An Nhien continues after Tet. Meanwhile, the poor forest has begun to show signs of revitalization. “Maybe I will leave it alone, the cork tree will grow back on its own, or I will plant more, depending on the budget”. Anh Dao said.

What is important according to the doctor is the long-term perspective. Once the embankment ecosystem is returned to its natural equilibrium, other social and economic benefits will follow.

Since the ecological embankment, shrimp, fish, birds, wild ducks, many insects have created a new source of livelihood for the village. Each spring, “so many birds can not sleep at night,” he shared. The green embankment on the transparent river also contributes to attracting more tourists to visit this ancient village.

If before 2015, Trem Tay land was sold for 1 million / m2, not many people bought, now, the land price has increased 15 times thanks to community tourism projects, resorts and the belief that village land will is kept. Walking around the road surrounded by the tea tree fence of the village, you can see that people are taking advantage of repairing and repainting their houses to make them more stable and spacious. From the past two years, young people working away from home have come back with plans to do tourism and open shops. All just wait for the disease to pass to be ready to revive.
