Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tong questioned the demand, economic efficiency and capital sources for the construction of the railway connecting Tan Son Nhat airport with Long Thanh.
Commenting on the railway network plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Ho Chi Minh City proposed to study the railway plan to connect Tan Son Nhat – Long Thanh airport through the extension of Metro No. 4b. (Gia Dinh – Tomb of Father Ca).

The route follows the highway: Pham Van Dong street, Trang Bom – Hoa Hung railway, Ring 2 route (located in Thu Duc city) and connects the rails directly to the Thu Thiem light rail route – National airport. Long Thanh economic zone at the Ring Road 2 intersection with the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway. Ho Chi Minh City also suggested that it is necessary to study the direction of urban railway No. 4b directly connecting with T1, T2, T3 terminals of Tan Son Nhat Airport. The City People’s Committee assessed that this route alignment option, when built, will contribute to the development of the urban railway system in Thu Duc City, convenient for traveling between areas. Talking to Dat Viet, aviation expert – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tong, former Head of the Department of Aviation Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science and Technology, pointed out 3 problems that make the railway connecting Tan Son airport Nhat – Long Thanh is not feasible. Firstly, about the need to build this railway line. According to Mr. Tong, it is not possible to say here in general that there is a need or indiscriminately stating a few numbers, lacking actual research, but needing specific quantitative analysis. “How many passengers will travel on this railway connecting Tan Son Nhat with Long Thanh? There must be data and an explanation for why there is such data”, he emphasized. Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee wishes to have a railway connecting Tan Son Nhat international airport to Long Thanh international airport. The expert said that, in the past, passenger demand for Long Thanh airport was calculated from the passenger demand forecast for Tan Son Nhat airport and then subtracted from the capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport. This simple calculation is based on the assumption that all excess passenger demand of Tan Son Nhat airport will be transferred to Long Thanh airport. “It is expected that when Tan Son Nhat airport is overloaded with over 50 million passengers, and the demand is up to 75 million passengers, then 25 million passengers will go from Tan Son Nhat through Long Thanh airport. This calculation method is very mechanical and mechanical, potentially posing a huge risk in forecasting passenger demand for Long Thanh airport”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tong commented and affirmed that passengers do not wait until Tan Tan. Son Nhat will run out of seats and then go to Long Thanh, but they will go to any airport they want to go to. rather than going through Tan Son Nhat. So which passengers from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh? Only passengers on domestic flights to Tan Son Nhat need to go to Long Thanh to connect to international routes. And vice versa, only passengers on international flights to Long Thanh without a connection from there to other provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang… will return to Tan Son Nhat to fly away. The number of international passengers traveling between these two airports is not much, so there is no need. That is the plan that the Ministry of Transport wants to use Tan Son Nhat airport as a domestic airport and Long Thanh as an international airport. The option of organizing two airports like this is inefficient and unfeasible. In principle of international airport operation, domestic and international terminals must be close to each other. It is best that Long Thanh International Airport is a transit airport for long-distance international flights such as going to Europe and America that need to collect passengers all over the country, and short-distance international flights such as going to Asia. Tan Son Nhat airport and other international airports take over to serve the residential areas of the provinces near the airport. “Most of the excess passenger demand of Tan Son Nhat airport will be transferred to using regional airports, especially passengers in the Mekong Delta will use Can Tho airport. Therefore, from now until then Once the construction of Long Thanh airport is completed, Can Tho International Airport and Cam Ranh International Airport will also be developed to reduce the load on Tan Son Nhat, so that by then there will not be many international visitors for the airport. Long Thanh and other airlines are not foolish to open flights when there are no guests,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tong. The second point noted by the expert is the financial and economic efficiency of the railway. Assuming that when the construction of this route is completed and tickets are collected, will the collected ticket money offset the site clearance costs, railway construction costs, operating costs… or not? Not to mention, if the fare is higher than other means of transport, it is easier for passengers to choose to go by road rather than this railway. “We have to figure out how much those customers pay for a metro ticket between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh, how much is the money collected in a year, how many years will it take to recover the capital? Midway station to serve guests wishing to go to Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat, that is only secondary,” the expert pointed out. The third and most important point, according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tong, is where to invest, especially in the context of high public debt today. He also reiterated his concerns about Long Thanh airport. The project has been pressed to start construction since the beginning of this year, but worries about the investment capital, feasibility and economic efficiency of the project are still there. The state has to invest a lot of money to build Long Thanh airport, and also has to invest a lot in connecting traffic between the airport and Ho Chi Minh City, the area from the South Central region, and the Mekong Delta to bring tourists. to the airport. However, when the airport and traffic connection system is completed, whether there will be visitors to Long Thanh is still an open question and in the event that Long Thanh airport has no guests, it will be a waste. extremely large and must have someone responsible.

With just over a week left until the holidays of April 30, May 1, many flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Con Dao… at beautiful hours are already over. When all seats are sold out, the ticket price also increases by 1.5-2 times compared to normal days in the remaining trips.

Photo: Duong Ngoc Vietnam Airlines has just said that up to now, the airline has recorded a high number of bookings on almost all domestic flights, especially on the routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang and Nha Trang. , Phu Quoc, with occupancy rates on some of the peak flight days as high as 95%. In order to serve the increased demand during the holidays of April 30, May 1, in 6 days from April 28 to May 3, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) continues to increase the load by nearly 117,000 seats. , corresponding to approximately 570 domestic flights, bringing the total supply after two increases in load to more than 610,000 seats, equivalent to nearly 3,200 flights. Previously, on March 24, airlines simultaneously announced an increase in flights to serve the peak holidays of April 30 and May 1. At the same time, companies launch many attractive promotions. Vietnam Airlines Group provides nearly 500,000 seats, equivalent to nearly 2,600 flights, mainly increasing seats on routes between famous tourist destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat and Phu Quoc. .. The number of seats increased approximately 100,000 seats compared to usual From the end of March and the beginning of April, Bamboo Airways is expected to increase about 110-150 flights per week, corresponding to 22,000 – 30,000 seats (up 12 – 15% compared to weekdays) on main routes and tourism in the period. holiday section. At the same time, airlines have opened many new routes on this occasion. Vietnam Airlines opens 6 new routes between Da Nang – Vinh; Phu Quoc and Can Tho, Nha Trang, Buon Ma Thuot, Hue, Thanh Hoa; at the same time, restore 2 routes Da Nang – Thanh Hoa, Can Tho – Buon Ma Thuot. Newly opened routes have a frequency of 3-4 return flights per week. Thus, in order to stimulate domestic tourism demand in the summer and develop the economy after the Covid-19 epidemic, the airline has opened and re-operated 28 flight routes, connecting localities with famous tourist destinations. In April, Vietjet Air also opened many new routes connecting Phu Quoc with provinces and cities such as Thanh Hoa, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Hue and Can Tho. The airline’s old routes from Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc have all been increased. Bamboo Airways continues to open routes to Can Tho from Hai Phong, Da Nang and Quy Nhon before the holidays of April 30 and May 1, increasing the network of flights to Can Tho to 6 routes. In addition to the new opening, Bamboo Airways also increased flights on Can Tho – Hanoi routes to 3 round trips/day; Can Tho – Con Dao has a frequency of 2 round trips/day; Can Tho – Phu Quoc fly daily instead of several flights a week as before. Currently, Bamboo Airways has planned to increase flights according to the infrastructure conditions of Con Dao airport. In the past few days, although airlines have been racing to increase flights and open more routes, but due to the great demand, the number of tickets sold out too quickly, not only the cheap tickets are no longer available, but many flights are sold out. According to the leader of an airline, with the current epidemic being very well controlled, airlines not only hope for the peak of this holiday season on April 30 and the coming summer, helping the airline to improve. revenue while waiting for the decision to return to international flights.

Flights from Hanoi to Chu Lai are recording a rare trend. It is a cheap airline ticket that is more expensive than a traditional air ticket during the peak occasion of April 30 – May 1.
According to the survey of Zing , the Hanoi – Chu Lai flight departing April 29 and returning on May 2 has the cheapest round-trip ticket price of VND 4.3 million, including taxes and fees, flights operated by Bamboo Airways. In addition, passengers can also choose flights of Vietnam Airlines (4.6 million dong) or Vietjet Air (4.8 million dong).

This flight sector is recording a strange trend. That is the price of low-cost airline fares higher than the fare of traditional airlines. Chu Lai Airport is the nearest airport to Ly Son Island, convenient for passengers in the travel itinerary to visit the island during holidays. If departing from Ho Chi Minh City, passengers can choose to fly cheap with Vietjet Air (2.3 million VND). Other options include Vietnam Airlines (VND 2.8 million) and Bamboo Airways (VND 4.1 million). Phu Quoc ticket prices soar The highest domestic round-trip fare during the holiday season still belongs to the direct route Hanoi – Con Dao with ticket prices up to VND8.4 million, including tax and fee, the operating airline is Bamboo Airways. With the Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc route, Bamboo Airways is also the only choice of passengers when Vasco has sold out all flights during the holiday peak. The ticket price offered by Bamboo Airways for this flight sector is 3.6 million VND. Ticket prices for the island resort flights are rising close to the holiday peak of April 30 – May 1. Photo: Hoang Ha. Another crowded flight during the holiday season is Hanoi – Phu Quoc. Currently, passengers can buy the cheapest round-trip ticket at the price of 3.7 million dong for this flight, the carrier is Vietjet Air. Other passenger options include Vietnam Airlines (VND 4.5 million) and Bamboo Airways (VND 4.7 million). The above price has increased significantly compared to the time of booking a month ago when the airlines offered tickets at 4 million VND. Similarly, fares from Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc depart during the holiday peak also increase heat. Specifically, Vietjet Air is the airline offering the cheapest fares for this flight sector, at VND 2.5 million, including tax and fees. Other airlines operating this flight sector include Bamboo Airways (VND 2.8 million), Vietnam Airlines (VND 2.8 million) and Pacific Airlines (VND 3 million). Once again, the price of cheap flights is higher than two traditional airlines (full service) during the holiday peak. Currently, Vietravel Airlines’ online ticketing system has to stop working for maintenance, so to refer to the fare for the above flights during the holidays, passengers will have to contact the ticket office or the airline’s hotline. The number of visitors through Noi Bai is up to 75,000 people / day In order to serve the growing demand during the holidays April 30 to May 1, in six days from April 28 to May 3, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) said that the business had continued. Increased capacity of nearly 117,000 seats, corresponding to approximately 570 domestic flights, bringing the total supply after two load increases to more than 610,000 seats, corresponding to nearly 3,200 flights. Up to now, the airline has recorded a high number of passengers booking tickets on almost all domestic flights, especially bustling on the routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, with occupancy rates on some of the top flight days as high as 95%. To ensure a smooth journey and avoid unfortunate missed flights, airlines also recommend passengers to arrive early at the airport to complete check-in procedures if needed and move to the screening area. screen, perform before the medical declaration, at the same time wear a mask at the airport and during the flight in the context of the travel rush on the occasion of April 30 – May 1. The number of passengers passing through Noi Bai airport during the peak holiday season from April 30 to May 1 is expected to reach 75,000 passengers / day. Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) also said that from April 23, Tan Son Nhat International Airport had additionally installed and put into use 5 security scanners and magnetic gates to serve. Travel needs of passengers during the holidays April 30 – May 1 and summer 2021. According to ACV, the addition of a projector is aimed at improving passenger service, meeting actual operational requirements, and avoiding congestion at security screening checkpoints. Security scanners and gateways are located at lobby A of domestic terminal (area for passengers of Vietnam Airlines Group and Bamboo Airlines, Vietravel Airlines), improve capacity through the screening security door of the A from 1,728 pax / hour to about 2,400 -2,500 pax / hour.

The “child” passenger receives a souvenir gift of a stuffed starfish keychains from Vietnam Airlines on the flight to Phu Quoc to protect the starfish. (Photo: CTV / Vietnam +) From April 24-29, Vietnam Airlines officially put into operation 9 more routes to “pearl island” Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) to meet the increasing travel demand of people during the summer peak. Accordingly, April 24 marked the first flight of Vietnam Airlines from Buon Ma Thuot to Phu Quoc . Subsequent flights from Hai Phong, Vinh, Hue, Da Nang, Da Lat, Can Tho landed safely on April 25. Today, the first flight from Nha Trang to Phu Quoc is scheduled to land at 12:50 and April 29 continues to welcome the first flight from Thanh Hoa to Phu Quoc. This is the first time Vietnam Airlines exploiting 5 routes connecting Phu Quoc with Thanh Hoa, Nha Trang, Hue, Buon Ma Thuot and Can Tho. In addition, 4 other routes were restored by the airline to meet the increasing demand for tourism in the summer, including between Phu Quoc and Hai Phong, Vinh, Da Nang, and Da Lat. In particular, flights between Phu Quoc and Thanh Hoa, Buon Ma Thuot will be operated every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and the rest will be operated every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Currently, Vietnam Airlines is operating a total of 11 routes to Phu Quoc. In 2020, the airline has made nearly 5,000 round-trip flights and transported 1.5 million passengers to Phu Quoc, accounting for 51% of the total number of passengers coming to Phu Quoc by air. On this special event, Vietnam Airlines organized activities to call for passengers protect starfish on the first 9 flights from destinations to Phu Quoc. The message to protect the starfish is stuck on the headrest of each seat and the flight attendant calls on the passengers to spread the message to the community and give the “child” guests a souvenir gift. Stuffed starfish keychains were produced by deaf girls in the Kymviet social enterprise. “The organization of ‘starfish flights’ is the effort of Vietnam Airlines to accompany the travel and tourism industry to bring about eco-friendly tourism activities towards sustainable development,” said the representative. Vietnam Airlines emphasized./.

It is not yet the holiday season from April 30 to May 1, but many travel companies have closed their tours, closed their books, and did not accept guests because of overload.
Information from many travel companies says that up to now, famous tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Ha Long, Sa Pa, Ly Son … have closed the tour, businesses stop receiving more guest. Booking tours of tourists at the present time is almost “impossible”, especially tours by flight. If possible, the price will be very high.

In particular, this year, guests also travel early, go the whole week before the holiday (April 23-27), or after that (from May 2-3) … so the service is continuously full. for a dozen days. Sapa attracts tourists during the holiday season this year. According to Viettravel, in April, the business recorded 35,000 tourists booking tours, of which most flocked on the holidays April 30 – May 1. Currently, most of the tours on this occasion are full. With the tours still available, Viettravel continues to accept tourists, depending on the travel routes. However, without saying anything, businesses can quickly close the book if the number of tourists booking tours continues to increase rapidly as before. The representative of this unit also stated that, after COVID-19, the tourism trend of tourists has changed significantly, from traveling in groups, available schedules to free travel, with fewer people. Groups from 2 to less than 10 people. Despite the high demand, but this year’s holiday tour price does not increase compared to every year. In addition to shifting the trend of freelance travel with small groups, customers will also benefit more from combo packages from service providers. Information with VTC News, Mr. Le Hong Thai – Deputy Director of Hanoitourist Travel Company – also said that the tour was closed for tourists on holidays from about a week ago. The hottest tours on April 30 – May 1 this year are Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Nang, Ha Long Sapa. Many of these tours even refused to receive guests earlier due to full service. “ The number of tourists booking tour during the holiday season 30/4 – 1/5 is much higher than last year. The reason is easy to understand is that the COVID-19 epidemic has been well controlled, people want to take advantage of traveling right in this period of time with the fear of outbreaks again. There are still many customers wishing to call to book tours. Hanoitourist continues to serve and can increase more road tours to Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Sapa … As for the flight tours, to Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, Con Dao, Phu Quoc, it is currently closed. and no more “, Mr. Thai said. A similar situation happened at another travel agency. Representative of Viet Tourism Company said that this unit has now stopped accepting tourists on flight tours to destinations such as Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Nha Trang … The reason is that the number of tourists booking these tours is full. Moreover, the ticket price is also very high. “ Book flights at the present time, flight prices range from 6-8 million VND, equal to the tour price to Phu Quoc if booked early “, the man said. Phu Quoc is one of the most attractive destinations for this holiday season but it is currently difficult to book a tour there. According to information from the Phu Quoc Tourism Association, hotels in tourist areas in Phu Quoc are almost overloaded, customers who want to book for a holiday from April 30 to May 1 must book a month earlier. Hotels and motels in Phu Quoc have opened 100% and are operating at full capacity except for a very small proportion of properties that are difficult to close for repair. Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao – Marketing Sales Manager at Salinda Resort Phu Quoc said that guests who booked a room at this resort since two weeks ago and currently cannot receive more guests. This unit has also been operating at 100% capacity to serve tourists during this holiday.

On the peak days of the holiday season, fares to tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, and Phu Quoc are all high. One of the busiest destinations for this year’s holiday season is Quy Nhon.

Morning flights from Hanoi to Quy Nhon on April 30 are priced at 2.7-3.2 million VND / way. Afternoon flights are priced lower, around 2 million VND / one way. This price is 2-10 times higher than the days before and after a holiday. With the flights to Phu Quoc, although the airlines have increased the load, the fare is still quite high. For example, the first day of the holiday, the ticket price for HCMC – Phu Quoc is from 1.3 to over 2 million VND / time. In particular, some flights have beautiful hours, suitable for hotel check-in time, taking advantage of the vacation time. The flights from Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, Tuy Hoa … were also crowded with high ticket prices. The plans to increase the load on routes between popular tourist destinations are in place. In particular, Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco announced an increase of nearly 500,000 seats in 6 peak days (from April 28 to 3-5). Vietjet and Bamboo also increased by 12% -15% of the supply load on the main routes and tourist routes during the holiday period.
