People move on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, USA, April 25, 2021. Photo: AFP/VNA According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in New York, along with the removal of the regulation of wearing masks and social distancing, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that all shops, restaurants, entertainment centers, theaters and museums from now on. No need to limit the number of visitors to a low level anymore, and the New York subway system, the largest in the US, is also officially operating 24/24 as before the pandemic. Vaccinated people only have to wear masks at nursing homes, hospitals or on public transport. By the end of May 18, about 52% of New Yorkers had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 43% of people had received the full dose. New York is also expected to soon host many famous traditional events that make up its own unique features such as professional volleyball tournaments, marathons and performances at the famous Radio City Music Hall. in this year. The decision to mark this historic moment was made by New York state officials after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued instructions on May 13 that people who have been vaccinated do not need to wear them. masks or social distancing and state data also show that the number of new infections and deaths from COVID-19 in New York has dropped to the lowest level since the pandemic broke out in New York more than a year ago. Answering the VNA, Michelle Khoury, a resident of New York, expressed her joy at not having to wear a mask anymore. “Now people get to experience the real New York, and it suddenly dawned on me that we are almost over the real pandemic,” she said. Matt Mckeon said that although New York has been reopened to normal, “all should still be careful to wear masks in indoor spaces with many people until the pandemic is really over.” Many big-name shopping centers such as Target, CVS, Walmart or Starbucks coffee shop chain have officially applied this newly changed regulation. However, state officials also asserted that New York businesses have the right to have their own policies and continue to require their employees to wear masks if necessary. The New York City Department of Health still recommends that people wear masks in indoor spaces when it is unclear whether those around them have been vaccinated or not, but specifically at stores, gyms, and pharmacies. hairdressing or other health care and beauty services. If the situation continues to turn in a positive direction, Governor Cuomo said he will allow the application of social distancing in small indoor spaces such as Broadway musicals before June 19.

After a year of being heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, rush hour traffic has returned to New York. Complaints about noise are growing and it is difficult to get a reservation at a popular restaurant.
As the pandemic raged through the streets of New York (USA) in 2020, some people declared the city dead. But after a terrible and painful year, the “Big Apple” is now regaining its spirits, according to Bloomberg.

More than half of adults in New York have had at least one dose of the vaccine. The number of Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations is plummeting. Museums reopen at 50% capacity, cinemas at 33%. Finally, people can sit at the bar to enjoy their favorite drink. The subway will operate 24/7 from May 17, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said. Parks and outdoor areas get crowded. People are starting to take off their masks in public according to the guidelines of the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Rent seems to be stabilizing again. More and more tourists are booking outings. Mayor Bill de Blasio expects 80,000 workers to return to the office on May 4 and has set a target for the city to fully reopen by July 1. “We see a promising return. It feels great,” he said. People enjoy the warm weather in Central Park in New York. Photo: Ed Jones/AP. Optimism about the future While thousands of New Yorkers are suffering long-term health and economic impacts, and most offices are still empty due to the epidemic, things are returning to normal. This makes people optimistic about the future of the city – which suffered the hardest and earliest battle with Covid-19 in the US. After several months of scarcity and difficulty booking vaccination appointments, it is now easy for anyone to do so. By far, it’s the fun things that come back the fastest and most powerful. Over the past few months, Christina Hansen (40), a New York City coach driver for the past nine years, has picked up tourists from California, Texas, Florida and North Carolina. “There is still less work than before, but we are fine. New York is not dead and will never be dead,” Hansen said. MacDougal Street, with its many restaurants and bars in New York, is once again bustling with people. Christina Hansen (right) is delighted to welcome guests back. Photo: Paul Frangipane/Bloomberg. Tickets to next week’s Frieze New York Art Fair, which will bring together collectors from across the United States, are almost sold out. At the Reservoir bar and restaurant in Greenwich Village, locals have to wait about 30 minutes for a table. This place reopened in February, after being closed for almost a year. Another key factor to New York’s return is tourism. The city expects domestic tourism to recover in 2023. Total visitors will surpass the pre-pandemic level of 66.6 million/year by 2024. Devin Cooper (25 years old, living in Los Angeles) immediately booked a flight to New York when he learned that his company allowed employees to travel without being quarantined. He plans to come here in mid-May, when vaccinations are more complete. While it may not be possible to experience some of the city’s famous activities, Cooper says there’s still a lot to see and do. “New York doesn’t seem to have died. This time, I can’t watch Broadway shows and dine outside of restaurants, but it’s a small price to pay for safety during the pandemic,” he said. Slowly recovering Even as most of the art, dining and entertainment life that characterizes New York reopens, the future of work culture, as well as the fate of millions of square feet of office space, remains uncertain. . The subways are far from full, although they will reopen 24/7 hours from May 17, NBC New York news. Mayor Bill de Blasio said office workers would be “a key indicator” of New York City’s long-term return. Some are slowly returning to the workplace. New York will allow offices to increase capacity from 50% to 75% from May 15. Mohammad Naveed, 47, runs a coffee cart near Wall Street. This used to be a prime location that helped him sell about 500 cups of coffee a day. Now, he only sells about 30 cups. “This place is deserted, there are no people,” Naveed explained. During the pandemic, one store after another seemed to be empty. The sector is recovering fast, but it is still far behind. However, between May 2020 and February 2021, 67% of retail jobs, including restaurants, returned to New York state, according to the New York state executive’s office. Coffee carts near Wall Street struggled as offices closed. Photo: Paul Frangipane/Bloomberg. In the real estate sector, the rental market in the Manhattan area shows an early stage of recovery. According to real estate data firm UrbanDigs, new active listings have dropped, monthly leases are increasing, and prices appear to have bottomed out. The number of apartments for rent in New York City is more than double what it was before the pandemic, while maintaining low prices, data from real estate firm StreetEasy shows. StreetEasy economist Nancy Wu said: “The increase in remote work has changed the minds of many renters. Instead of seriously looking for apartments in Manhattan with a short drive to the office, they can afford to explore a host of other neighborhoods in boroughs that might not have been considered before.” Donovan Davis, 24, of Staten Island, waited in line in front of the Supreme store on Bowery Street for about 15 minutes to view the new spring collection and purchase the backpack. Davis was recently vaccinated. Stuck at home for the past year, he didn’t really want to shop until now. “The weather is warming up. I finally started going out and shopping.” Donovan Davis outside the Supreme store in New York on April 30. He only goes out shopping when he is vaccinated. Photo: Misyrlena Egkolfopoulou/Bloomberg. New Yorkers used to not appreciate the crowdedness of the city. The subway isn’t as busy as it used to be. But David felt the city was still alive and slowly returning to normal. “Every time I go out, it’s nice to see that there are still so many people there,” he said.

The center is scheduled to open to the public in May and has pledged to keep fees below those of other charity hospitals in the area. The Kek Lok Si Charity Medical Center is located on the grounds of Lac Lac Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. This is home to a 36.6 meter high bronze statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and a Buddha made from jade mined in Myanmar and carved in China, considered one of the largest jade Buddha statues in the world. . This temple, called Sukhāvati in Sanskrit, which translates as “land of ultimate happiness”, nestled on a hillside, offering panoramic views of the city and sea, is a popular pilgrimage and visitation site. language of the Buddhist followers in the region. Venerable Seck Jit Heng, the temple’s abbot and former President of the Malaysian Buddhist Association, will become the Chairman of the hospital’s Board of Directors. “This is not the first charity hospital in the state, but rest assured that the fees here will be much lower than the lowest fees of all the other charity hospitals here. We only serve Malaysians, especially the poor,” said Dr Teng Hock Nan, Board member and Medical Director at the hospital. The facility has five floors and occupies part of the temple grounds. The center will include X-ray, ultrasound and CT scanners, modular critical care and a hemodialysis center. The hospital will provide 50 beds with 130 staff members, including seven resident consultants, two doctors, two consultants and one visiting consultant. The hospital with modern equipment is working towards 200 beds “We hope to expand our hospital to a total of 200 beds in the future,” said Dr. Teng. Aiming to avoid common medical tourism in the region, Dr Teng said: “If there is an emergency involving foreigners, we will treat them until their condition is reached. they stabilize before being transferred to other hospitals.” The Penang state government has invested RM200,000 (US$48,698) in the hospital, and officials expressed hope that a similar donation would be made every year. “Since the hospital operates entirely on donations, but the costs of the hospital are very high, we hope the state will consider approving the funding for the hospital every year.” Dr. Teng told Penang Premier Chow Kon Yeow when he visited the hospital. In response to this request, Premier Chow called on all NGOs and corporations, the Chinese city hall in Penang, the Penang Chinese chamber of commerce and multinational companies to support the disease. this charity.

Tourists go on a pilgrimage to Ba Vi mountain to offer incense to the Uncle Ho Temple and the Holy Ghost Tan Vien Temple Look for living witnesses to complete information for visitors In the report dated August 30, 1942 of Ambassador Son Tay Fucat to the Governor of Tonkin on the Ba Vi mountain planning project, evaluated: “Ba Vi mountain area will become a resort with higher benefits than Tam Dao. … ”. The reason is “the road from Hanoi to Ba Vi is very convenient. The distance from Hanoi to the 1,000m level is only 67km. There are only 12km of mountain roads. The slope of Ba Vi mountain is not more than 10% (meanwhile in Tam Dao it is 14%, even 16%). The climate in Ba Vi is not as wet as Tam Dao. The temperature does not change too much, the lowest is 17.8 degrees C and the highest is 29.6 degrees C ”. From 1932 – 1944, the French built many works here such as motels, amusement parks, churches, orphanages, summer camps, youth schools, military bases … At a height of 1,000-1,100m on the western slope of Tan Vien peak is a secret political prison system solidly built to imprison our patriotic communists against the colonial regime. The prison is arranged into 3 zones: Zone 1 is the residence for the prison guards, zone 2 and 3 are the places to keep prisoners. With a total area of nearly 1,000m2, it can detain from 100-200 people. Currently, documents about the political prison are limited, Ba Vi National Park (National Park) is actively looking for surviving witnesses and related documents to gradually refine information. service visitors to visit. National park staff introduced the historical traces Ba Vi National Park is characterized by a mixed forest of broadleaf trees and low mountain subtropical conifers Preserve spiritual and historical values Currently, Ba Vi National Park has 217 vestiges from the French colonial period with unique architecture in harmony with nature. Mr. Do Huu The – Director of Ba Vi National Park took us along the winding road under the lush green trees to visit Ngoc Hoa cave. This cave is located at an altitude of 350m, about 200m from a motorway. Crouching through a small stone arch covered with vines, we can see the cave. Here, we observe a natural phenomenon that took place millions of years ago, that is the slide of geology due to the movement of the Ba Vi mountain formation, which created interesting caves. Above the cave is a large rock formed by 3 solid pillars to create a large arch about 15m2. Next to the rocky cave is a bat cave with a very “fertile” door shape. The cave consists of 4 doors piercing the mountain bed and is home to about 5-6 species of bats. However, the cave is very deep and dangerous, currently Ba Vi National Park has not allowed visitors to visit. Lying above the bat cave is “The Rock”. Legend has it that this is the place where Princess Ngoc Hoa (the 18th son of Hung Vuong) homesick and looks at the land of Phong Chau ancestor. Strolled at the middle top, visited the prison area where the revolutionary soldiers were imprisoned, visited the French post at a height of 600-700m, which is now only ruins. Then let your heart blend with nature, you will be able to climb nearly 1,000 steps to visit the ancient green cypress forest on top of Tieu Dong. This is characteristic of mixed broadleaf and low mountain sub-tropical coniferous forests.

On August 9, 1840, a group of uninvited guests arrived at Dagukou, Tianjin: they were a British fleet led by the British plenipotentiary Yi Lu.

The British army came to Tianjin in order to send envoys to the capital to meet Emperor Daoguang. Emperor Daoguang resolutely did not allow it. Instead, he sent Zhili Governor Qi Shan to Tianjin to negotiate with the British army, and “came properly.”

Qishan, whose name is Jing’an, was born in 1786, born in 1786, from the Borzijit family and from Manchuria Zhenghuang Banner. In 1806, Qi Shan was appointed by Yinsheng to be a member of the Penalty Department, and entered the official career. He successively served as Henan Procurator, Jiangning Chief Envoy, Henan Chief Envoy, Henan Governor, Shandong Governor, Governor of Liangjiang, Governor of Donghe, General of Chengdu, and Zhili Governor, co-sponsored bachelor, Wenyuange bachelor and other positions.

Everyone knows that Lin Zexu is a staunch anti-smoking activist, and his “cigarette sale in Humen” is famous all over the world. However, Qishan also advocated smoking ban. After he became the governor of Zhili province, he launched a vigorous anti-smoking campaign. From August to November 1838, in just three months, Qishan seized 150,000 taels of soot in Tianjin.

After the ambitious Qi Shan arrived in Tianjin, he did not personally meet with the British envoys, but sent people to the British warships to make negotiations. While negotiating, secretly check the British military’s armament. After the person sent to negotiate returned, Xiang Qishan gave a detailed report. At this moment, Qi Shan felt that things were not that simple.

In Qishan’s imagination, how can the British army be more powerful? However, the negotiators reported that the British military ships were strong and powerful, especially the gunboats, which were three stories high. “There is no wind and no tide, and they can fly with the current.” Moreover, under the gun position, “there is a stone grinding disc and a machine shaft in the middle. Just move the grinding disc and the gun will follow its direction.” Obviously, the British army is not a good crop. If a war really breaks out in Tianjin, it will surely cause endless trouble for him, the governor of Zhili. The most urgent task at the moment is to deceive the British army and leave Tianjin. It is best to return to Guangzhou and return this hot potato to the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi.

On August 30, Qishan enthusiastically received the British Deputy Plenipotentiary Yilu in a hurriedly built yellow big tent under the Tianjin Fort. Qi Shan used methods to persuade them to return to Guangzhou: “His Majesty has decided to send an imperial minister to Guangzhou… It proves that the court is kind and peaceful in handling the problem.” As for the time when Emperor Daoguang will actually send an imperial minister to Guangzhou , It’s not that he can call the shots. If there is really an imperial commissioner traveling, then it will be the imperial commissioner facing trouble by then, not Qishan.

In order to persuade the British army, Qishan accepted the British army’s dissatisfaction with Lin Zexu and agreed to impose severe punishment on Lin Zexu.

At that time, the British army had been in Tianjin for almost a month. They were not afraid of the Qing army, but worried about the freezing winter. If it continues to be procrastinated, the severe winter will bring them a great challenge in logistical support and other aspects. Now, since the Governor of Zhili in the Qing Dynasty has made a promise, they might as well go south temporarily. As a result, the British army departed from Dagukou in Tianjin, headed south along the coastline, and returned to Guangzhou.

Qi Shan succeeded in persuading the British army to retreat, and then he would report to the court to report the details of the matter. In order to show that he has worked so hard in this trip, Qi Shan reported on the strength of the British fleet in a realistic manner. However, Qishan knew well that if he blindly praised the enemy’s strength, he would easily arouse the repugnance of Emperor Daoguang, and he would “steal chickens and lose rice”. As a result, Qi Shan fooled Emperor Daoguang again.

Qi Shan told Emperor Daoguang that after the British army came to Tianjin, after some enlightenment, he “seems to have a sense of shame and hatred” for his previous despicable behavior.

Emperor Daoguang looked at Qishan’s memorial, and Longyan was delighted and praised Qishan for his ability to do things. “Isn’t it a piece of paper, far better than one hundred thousand masters… The one who has been told, the memorial is detailed, and it is integrated, and my heart is full of joy.”

In contrast, Emperor Daoguang looked at Lin Zexu more and more unpleasantly: “Last year Lin Zexu waited to investigate the no-smoking soil, but failed to respect the righteousness of the public, so that he was deceived and mishandled. I ask for the injustice of the emperor, the great emperor. If you have heard about it, you must investigate the crimes one by one and re-punish him.” On September 29, Emperor Daoguang decreed that Lin Zexu should be removed from his post, and “the Ministry will strictly discuss the office and come to Beijing to listen to the ministry’s discussion”.

What Qishan never expected was that on September 28, the day before Lin Zexu was dismissed, Emperor Daoguang ordered him to go to Guangzhou to take over Lin Zexu’s job and negotiate with the British army. Qi Shan dug a hole, but jumped down by himself.

Of course, you have to jump down with tears in the pits you dug yourself. When Qishan arrived in Guangzhou, he finally understood the British Army’s idea, not only to compensate for the loss of opium, but also to cedicate land and open a trading port. Qishan still wanted to fool the British army, but the British army refused to be fooled by him.

In January 1841, under the threat of force from the British army, Qi Shan was forced to sign the “Crossing the Nose Covenant”. After hearing the news, Emperor Daoguang became furious and yelled at Qi Shan: “I am so incompetent, you are intimidated by others, and you are willing to be stinking for thousands of years! Today I have chosen several ways to intimidate me, I am not afraid.”

Subsequently, Emperor Daoguang ordered that Qi Shan be dismissed from office for questioning and the family property was checked.

Qi Shan and Lin Zexu, the two imperial ministers, both ended up with a dismissal and questioning, which can be called the same goal by different routes.

According to Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Thi Hong, credit growth of the whole banking system in the first quarter of 2021 doubled over the same period last year, averaging 2.93%.

At the General Meeting of Shareholders in 2021, the leader of VietinBank said, continuing to solve difficulties for businesses affected by natural disasters, epidemic COVID-19.

The results are positive

Information from the State Bank showed that: The credit flow is mainly focusing on production areas, priority areas, for example credit growth in agriculture, forestry and fisheries reached 2.42%; industry 3.04% … Credit in securities in the first quarter of 2021 reached VND 45,300 billion, down 1% compared to the end of 2020; credit in real estate reached 1.85 million billion, up 3%.

Credit growth is also evident in the business results of some banks. At the 2021 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) of VietinBank that took place on the morning of April 16, Mr. Le Duc Tho – Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of VietinBank’s Board of Directors said: Quarter I / 2021, the safety and operational efficiency indicators of VietinBank are much better than the same period last year, of which the main operating income categories all grew by over 25% over the same period last year. 2020, operating costs will be managed effectively, cost-to-income (CIR) ratio will be maintained at a reasonable level; Asset quality is well managed, NPL ratio is managed below 1%.

Notably, the proportion of retail growth in credit growth in the first quarter of 2021 was more than 80%, shows the bank’s consistent orientation towards the retail segment.

On the HoSE stock exchange, stock LPB was in the group of stocks with the highest market price growth in the first quarter of 2021, up nearly 40%, from 12,400 VND / share in the trading session on December 31. / 2020 to 17,350 VND / share in the session on 31/03/2021. Thus, with the results of the first quarter of 2021 reaching VND 1,112 billion, LienVietPostBank has completed about 35% of the profit target in this year’s business plan.

“The COVID-19 epidemic that broke out in some localities across the country continued to negatively impact production and business, especially the accommodation, catering, transportation and tourism industries; the consumption of agricultural products in some localities in epidemic areas has many difficulties …, affecting production and business, revenue and cash flow to repay debts of customers, thereby affecting bank credit activities ” , Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of Credit Department for Economic Sectors (SBV).

In the difficult context of the economy, credit institutions (CIs) have implemented solutions to support people and businesses to overcome difficulties caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, by the end of March. / 2021 has restructured the repayment term for nearly 263 thousand customers with outstanding loans of more than VND 353 trillion; interest rate exemption, reduction and reduction for more than 660 thousand customers with outstanding debt balance of over VND 1.27 million.
Maintain growth, support businesses

According to Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Thi Hong, positive information on the first quarter business index of the banking system is the basis for forecasting credit growth this year will reach about 12%. This number will also be adjusted to suit the actual situation.

According to Dr. Vo Tri Thanh, a member of the National Financial and Monetary Policy Advisory Council, said that at present, the State Bank still operates a credit policy based on the total credit growth, but is flexible in the face of developments. try to both contribute to the economic recovery process but also have to be skillful so as not to cause “break-up” in the macro. “The credit growth rate in recent years has been slower, but the growth rate is not low compared to the previous years. The scale of credit balance / GDP is getting bigger and bigger (currently about 140%), so it is reasonable for the credit control to increase at 12% in 2021. If the economy recovers well, the credit for the whole economy can increase by 11-13% this year and is expected to grow stronger from the second quarter, “said Dr. Can Van Luc, economist. BIDV’s chief forecasted.

“VietinBank continues to proactively implement solutions to balance capital effectively, reduce capital costs to create resources to continue strongly implementing preferential policies, reducing lending interest rates and service fees, maintain the level of lending interest rates and service fees at the lowest and most reasonable level, support and accompany people and businesses affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, ”said Mr. Le Duc Tho.

Outstanding loans of VietinBank in 2021 are expected to grow by 7.5%, complying with the credit limit approved by the State Bank; capital mobilized from economic entities and individuals grew by 8-12%, adjusted in accordance with credit growth, and ensured prudential ratios as prescribed by the State Bank of Vietnam. NPL / credit balance is controlled below 1.5%.

From now to the end of the year, VietinBank continues to grow strongly in business activities, accompanied by dramatic improvements in quality and efficiency; implementing appropriate credit growth solutions while balancing effective capital sources; improving the quality of risk management, quality of growth, effectiveness and efficiency of internal control inspection; accelerating debt collection, handling risks, bad debts, improving asset quality. “Continuing to implement solutions to help remove difficulties for customers affected by natural disasters and epidemics, especially the COVID-19 epidemic under the direction of the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam,” said Mr. Le Duc Tho. .

Video: The collage clip was posted by ABC News

The clip shows a group of twerk dancing performing during the reception of the Australian Navy support ship HMAS Supply on April 9, but the ABC station was criticized for editing it to cause misunderstanding.
Twerk is a dance that focuses on movements in the hips and buttocks.

According to the clip ABC News The dance group’s show was attended by high-ranking officials, including Governor-General of Australia David Hurley and Australian Army Commander-in-Chief Angus Campbell, as well as many other MPs and officials.

On the contrary, the Australian Navy insisted that the performance took place before the officials arrived.

Meanwhile, 101 Doll Squadron, the dance group at the event, also accused ABC News modifications to the clip, leading viewers to assume that high-ranking officials are present while they perform.

“ABC I have to answer because it makes us feel threatened and taken advantage of, ”the dance group announced.

The group said that ABC misleadingly cut the clip while filming the dancer at angles that viewers of the performance would not see.

The video shows a twerk dance aboard an Australian navy ship. Photo: ABC News.

The Australian Navy also shared a video of the official ceremony, which did not include the dance.

After being widely shared on social networks, the clip’s ABC News attracted much criticism from the Australian online community. This scene is compared to the movie The Dictator 2012. The dictator Ali G, the main character of the film, is surrounded by an all-female bodyguard.

Congressman Phillip Thompson, also a veteran, criticized the twerk dance as “unsuitable” for such events. ”

“I think the standard of the Australian military must be higher than that,” he said ABC News.

The decision was made 100 days before the Tokyo Olympics opened and amid growing concerns about the possibility of hosting the event as the number of cases is increasing inside and outside Japan.

Ehime Provincial Governor Tokihiro Nakamura said emergency health services in the region are under great pressure due to a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. As a result, the authorities will cancel the torch procession in Matsuyama. Instead, they will hold a torch celebration without the participation of the audience, and tokyo Olympic organizers have also approved the decision.

The torch procession departed March 25 from Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan and is scheduled to pass through a total of 47 prefectures before the opening of the Olympics on July 23. As planned, this torch will pass through Matsuyama City on April 21. Earlier, osaka authorities did not hold torchlight processions on the streets. Instead, torch-carrying athletes ran through an empty park due to the rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases there.

According to statistics, Japan has recorded a total of more than 513,000 infections and more than 9,500 deaths from COVID-19. Notably, the total number of cases in tokyo is more than 126,000, the highest level in the country. Last week, the Government of Japan decided to allow the governments of Tokyo, Kyoto Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture to adopt key epidemic prevention measures amid signs of a strong OUTBREAK of COVID-19. The measures are expected to be lifted in Kyoto and Okinawa prefectures on May 5, and in tokyo on May 11.

In the context of the complicated situation, on the same day, Tokyo Mayor Yuriko Koike pledged to effectively control the COVID-19 epidemic in the capital to ensure the upcoming Olympics take place safely. She stressed that between now and May 11, it will be an important period to win the fight against COVID-19 before the Olympics take place.

Meanwhile, John Coates – chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the body responsible for overseeing the preparations – expressed confidence that the Tokyo Olympics will undoubtedly take place this summer. According to him, the current anti-epidemic measures will help ensure the safety of people, athletes and other participants.

In order to minimize the risk of spread, last month, the Government of Japan officially decided not to allow foreign audiences to enter the country to watch events at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Foreign professional athletes and coaches will be quarantined immediately after arriving in Japan. Testing for these subjects will be conducted every 3-4 days, and individuals who test negative for 14 days of quarantine can participate in training and competition with teammates.

Tokyo Olympic organizers are entering the final stages of preparation. Five agencies in charge of organizing, including the IOC and the Tokyo city government, are planning to convene a meeting before the end of April to decide how many people will be allowed into the competition area.
