From time to time, I come across a strange feeling about Saigon, which is only possible when we are lost in a foreign land. This time when I went to a friend’s newly bought cafe in Gia Dinh park. This is the place where I used to be in the 90s, but now there is almost no familiarity. It was completely strange, so strange that it took me by surprise and immediately reminded me of the feeling I had twenty years ago…

This is the emotion that was engraved in my memory the first time I set foot at Mien Dong bus station. Lost and insecure, precarious as if walking on a bumpy slope. But the emotion in the early 90s of the last century was something full and hot, and this time it was a bit more profound. The only thing that has not changed and has become familiar is the coffee atmosphere that we can easily feel in any coffee shop in Saigon. Although I have settled in Saigon for more than twenty years, half the time in my homeland, there is no Landmark in Saigon that makes me remember much. The things imprinted in my brain are just nameless little things. For example, the General’s shrine is in a certain alley near Saigon station that I can no longer locate. The temple is just an altar in the style of Mr. Dia, located in the most spacious part of the alley. The shrine is modest, but the smoke of incense sticks out all day. Nearby is a toad cafe owned by an alley gang boss. Somehow, I got used to this “brutal” guy. Perhaps the naivety of a teenager from distant Quang Nam touched his heart? No, the reason is from the shrine. He told me that the General was “outside” everywhere. A few years ago, his junior brought back an old bag. It claimed “stealing” from an old man outside the station. Inside were only a few old clothes, a tin box containing a strange black powder. When he was depressed, another kid running from the station said that the old man was rolling around crying near death on the platform, his head was covered with blood. In the end, the senior had to go to the place to witness the incident and understand everything. That tin box contained something very sacred: remains. That old man was a son from Quang Nam who went to collect his father’s bones to bring back to his hometown and then it happened as we know it. The brothers and sisters forced the junior to return the bag and especially the tin box to the old man, but he claimed that it had already been spilled. The little black powder in the tin box was thrown down the alley, right where the General’s shrine is now. The junior thought for a while and then jumped out near the canal. After a while it brought back a pile of black soil… When the old man received his bag back, and especially when he saw that the tin box was still intact, he was as happy as if he had caught gold. As for the brothers and sisters, they found the altar and placed it right where the junior had dropped the bones. Since then, the temple has been taken care of by the whole gang, and smoked fruit incense all day. The General was also tolerant when he didn’t blame the people who pulled vertically, but also occasionally hit a few numbers. And he became famous from there. I once dared to ask “your hand” why did you call the General? “Hands and sisters” explained that to win such a lottery, it must be done by the General. The General’s Shrine and your coffee shop toads are what make me picture Saigon most vividly, in a way that nothing in this land can replace. Then there are so many places I have been, the roads I have walked, until now, I can no longer imagine. But the feeling they give me is still intact. A coffee shop toad disappeared somewhere under the floor of a building. An attractive road leading to Long An in the past, has now been replaced by a luxurious and busy urban area. Then Binh Dong wharf, which contains the development history of this land, now who has the strength to recall? But one thing that never dies is the emotion they sow in our brains. Saigon will forever be there no matter how many conspiracies across this land. For one thing, those who come first or come late, come in a friendly attitude or steal, will sooner or later be tamed by this land. As well as the very familiar coffee atmosphere that I encountered even in a strange place. We will remember the roads we have walked, and we will also remember the roads we have never walked. The emotion that Saigon sows in the souls of predestined people is immortal.

Even though it’s just a vermicelli shop located on the sidewalk, this bun rieu is still known by many people, also known by the name 1-0-2: ‘hate vermicelli’.
Among the many unique dishes that make up the name of Hanoi cuisine, the noodles also make up a large part. From pho, bun cha, snail vermicelli to vermicelli, chicken noodle… all kinds of noodles in the world are available in Hanoi. There, people also often mention vermicelli – a familiar dish in the life of Ha Thanh people, regardless of winter or summer.

Bun rieu – an indispensable dish for Hanoians. (Photo: Internet) In the heart of the old town, people still hear about a vermicelli shop located at the beginning of a small alley with a very strange name: “hate vermicelli”. In fact, the shop still has a very carefully stamped signboard over the decades “Yen – special bun ziu burden – welcome”. But because the shop is located next to a small relic, there is a stele “Ingrained hatred”, so people who are used to eating here call it “bun ziu hate” as a way to distinguish it from other noodle shops. What makes this special name is because this shop is located next to the monument of the stele “Engraved with hatred”. When guests arrive, they arrange plastic chairs to sit, using higher plastic chairs to make a table to place a bowl of vermicelli. Photo: Internet Bun rieu here still only includes familiar ingredients such as crab, fish cakes, beans… Each bowl of vermicelli noodles costs only 20,000 VND. Besides, this “hate” vermicelli restaurant also sells snail vermicelli, beef vermicelli (with beef) for 30,000 VND, and if anyone wants to eat a full bowl, it will cost 40,000 VND. Photo: Internet Photo: Internet Photo: Internet The bowl of vermicelli noodles is always full, eating one bowl is full. Add some raw vegetables and chili peppers and it’s delicious. Customers usually don’t come in droves for a while, but from one turn to another, from early morning until noon, there are almost always people coming. Every day, the shop is usually open from 7 a.m. until early afternoon to clear the goods.

Occasionally, cosmetic companies launch a special edition product line with limited quantity, or suddenly announce to discontinue a line of selling products. From that lead to many interesting stories.

When Chanel introduced Vamp 18 nail polish in 1994, it instantly became something every lady wants to own. Vamp paint color is a little bit of a cool grunge style but still maintains the signature elegance of French fashion. Then the Vamp stopped producing, it made millions of women’s hearts want to stop beating.

Chanel’s famous Vamp 18 nail polish bottle.

World of discontinued beauty products (discontinued beauty products)

The aforementioned $ 15 bottle of Chanel nail polish has become a cultural standard when it is loved by top stars. With its low cost, it is extremely successful in the mass consumer market. Throughout the history of Chanel, there has never been a miracle comparable to Vamp nail polish bottles. It is also the product beauty Best-selling Chanel of all time.

Vamp is the best selling Chanel beauty product of all time.

Most cosmetic products are discontinued as they are gone forever, driving you crazy with searching. The association loves the discontinued cosmetic lines (discontinued beauty products) always crowded and powerful. The announcement to stop producing certain products also makes the market for buying and selling these products thrive.

Just Google you will find a lot of websites buying and selling discontinued cosmetic lines. Hundreds of products can be found in stages, from big brands like Clinque, Aveda … to obscure brands like Orofluido, Dicesare …

The discontinued purchasing industry also brings huge profits for some entrepreneurs. They invest in buying quality but fledgling brands (acquired by big corporations and rebranding sooner or later), or buy limited edition lines and sell them. when they are out of stock on the market.

Even products that have been used like tried lipsticks or perfumes that have been used several times are still selling well. One example is Candy Yum Yum-colored Mac lipstick.

When a large conglomerate like P&G makes an acquisition, they typically produce multiple products of the acquired brands in a very short period of time, before stopping selling and developing new formulas. It is time for speculators to buy in bulk and then wait until female customers realize their favorite product is no longer available anywhere.

The prices of discontinued products range from 10-30 dollars, but there are also some extremely rare items that sell for hundreds of dollars. Rare records like Redken’s Extreme PPT damaged hair recovery product were acquired by a Japanese customer for $ 500.

Redken’s Extreme PPT hair care product sets a resale price record.

Even used products (like tried-and-tested lipsticks or perfumes that last several times) are selling well as usual. People don’t care what they are second hand, as long as it is a product that they have loved and are familiar with, then pick it up.

The secret behind the guise

The tag “Stop production line” has caused the brand to be transmitted by word of mouth and engraved on consumers’ mind more.

So, what makes a product worth pursuing so many people want to resell? What makes girls accept to pay double or 3 times the original price to buy a cosmetic product?

Reason number one: It’s a great product, they’re already familiar, uncomfortable in absence, and want it back at all costs.

Reason number two: buy to collect, they want to own what no more chance to buy.

The tag “Stop production line” has caused the brand to be transmitted by word of mouth and engraved more deeply into the minds of consumers. So the reputable labels sometimes throw up a great deal to announce stopping production of the favorite products.

After a long enough absence, resale will cause fever and gradually run out, cosmetic labels will begin “reappearance” campaigns. MAC, Esteé Lauder, Chanel … are famous people who specialize in reviving old products.

Esteé Lauder in 2000 made a big promotion for the Gone But Not Forgotten (Gone But Not Forgotten) campaign to revive some old products.

The decision to “revive” is entirely based on feed back customers. For example, the campaign called MAC by Request is a typical example of how to use social media to interact with customers and decide to revive feed back products. One of MAC’s most popular lipstick colors, Candy Yum-Yum from “limited product” is back on the shelves thanks to customer support and has become one of the brand’s best-sellers. .

MAC Candy Yum-Yum is back thanks to consumer support.

Actually, Vamp nail polish is still found in Chanel but under a new look and name.

Since the beginning of the article, Chanel nail polish bottles from the beginning of the article, you thought Chanel would ignore that fertile land, in fact they were later revived with a new look, a little improvement in ingredients and continued to “bomb” on the cosmetic shelf.
