A series of Acer-branded laptops have just been released PHOTO: ACER According to Engadget, Acer’s upgraded ConceptD 5 laptop combines an H-series processor with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU for ray tracing. Users can purchase them in configurations with up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of SSD storage. They have a 16-inch 3K display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. ConceptD 5 is capable of 4K video processing, 8K editing, multi-application, multi-monitor workflows, as well as 2D and 3D software rendering programs. They come with several connectivity options like 2 USB-C ports, Thunderbolt 4 support, HDMI 2.1 and an SD card reader. Acer also gives users a choice of ConceptD 5 Pro laptops with Nvidia RTX A5000 or RTX A3000 GPUs. Since both are professional-grade graphics cards, these options will require consumers to spend more money than the non-Pro ConceptD 5 laptop. Meanwhile, the ConceptD 7 Ezel convertible laptop model has also been updated with Intel’s new 11th Gen Core i7-11800H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 mobile GPU. It features a 15.6-inch 4K display and configurable with up to 32 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of SSD storage. The device has a variety of usage modes thanks to Acer’s flexible hinge design and comes with a Wacom ER pen. Like the ConceptD 5, the ConceptD 7 Ezel also comes in a pro version powered by Intel’s Xeon W-11955M processor with Nvidia’s professional-grade RTX A5000 or A3000 GPU. Finally, Acer’s mid-range ConceptD 3 devices have also been upgraded with 11th Gen Intel H-series processors and Nvidia’s RTX 3050 Ti mobile GPUs. They are available in two variants, the standard ConceptD 3 and the convertible ConceptD 3 Ezel. Acer has also rolled out Pro versions of both, with Intel’s H-series processors bumped up to Core i7 options and Nvidia T1200 mobile GPUs. All ConceptD 3 models feature FHD displays, SSD storage, and Thunderbolt 4 support. ConceptD 5 will be the first member of Acer’s new product series to be released, with a starting date of July with a starting price of 2,199 EUR. Other laptop models launched by Acer this time include ConceptD 7 Ezel, ConceptD 3 and ConceptD 3 Ezel priced at EUR 2,699, EUR 1,299 and USD 1,600, respectively.

Recently, Apple, Microsoft and Google announced that they will join chip maker Intel to form a lobbying group to promote the chip manufacturing sector.
The newly formed Semiconductor Alliance in the US said it asked lawmakers to quickly fund the CHIPS Act. In a letter to the leaders, the coalition wrote: “The strong funding of the CHIPS Act will help the United States build the additional capacity needed for a more resilient supply chain to ensure the technologies important will always be available when we need it.”

The global chip shortage has hit automakers hard, especially Ford, as it said it would have to cut production in half in the second quarter. In the latest move, auto industry groups have pressed the Biden administration to secure chip supplies for manufacturing plants. The new alliance will include a number of large chip companies such as AT&T, Cisco Systems, General Electric, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Verizon Communications. The group announced that it will resist government actions to support the industry, which is struggling in production because of the chip shortage problem. Tech companies like Apple or Microsoft are also affected by the situation, but much less severely than automakers. Last month, the iPhone maker said it could lose $3 to $4 billion in sales in the current quarter because of chip shortages. According to Reuters
