A test report commissioned by the EU does not consider the weed killer glyphosate to be carcinogenic or dangerous to the genetic makeup. Nevertheless, the drug will probably disappear from the market in Europe.

From Michael Heussen, WDR

The specialist authorities from France, Sweden, Hungary and the Netherlands come to terms with glyphosate to a clear result : The pesticide is not carcinogenic, it does not damage the genetic material and it is neither dangerous for human organs nor for the hormonal balance. The four national authorities had assessed the safety of glyphosate on behalf of the European Commission on the basis of existing study results. You confirm the findings of test authorities around the world.

Nevertheless, it can be assumed that the drug will disappear from the market sooner or later. “Glyphosate is socially dead,” said a farmer official in the run-up to the farmers’ day in Berlin. The public had long since made its judgment – even with solid scientific arguments, the majority of consumers could not be convinced of the harmlessness of the substance. Since 2015, the judgment of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which belongs to the World Health Organization (WHO), has been hovering over the evaluation process like a sword of Damocles: Glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic”.

Cancer risk weed killer? New glyphosate lawsuit against Bayer

The Bayer Group will not get rid of the burdens caused by the takeover of the US agrochemical company Monsanto.

“Very low probability”

It is hardly surprising that the glyphosate producer Bayer sees it differently and welcomes the positive study results that have now been published. The chemical giant, which with the US-American Monsanto group also took over its glyphosate-containing bestseller Roundup, also rejects another argument – that the herbicide threatens biodiversity.

“Evaluated scientific studies as well as publicly available research reports show only a very low probability that the proper use of glyphosate-containing pesticides has indirect effects on the biodiversity of most food chains,” says the company. For example, the effects on microorganisms living in the soil, worms, birds, pollinating insects such as honey bees, frogs and other amphibians as well as fish have been investigated, according to a Bayer spokesman. So could it happen that glyphosate may also be used in the European Union beyond the approval period that expires at the end of 2022? Much speaks against it.

The Bayer Group sees itself confirmed by the current audit at EU level. Image: dpa

Federal government expects glyphosate to be phased out by 2024

The Federal Environment Ministry, led by Svenja Schulze (SPD), firmly expects that no more glyphosate-containing pesticides may be used from January 1, 2024 at the latest after the end of the one-year transition period. “In agreement with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, we continue to assume that the Federal Government (…) has decided to phase out glyphosate use in accordance with EU law,” it says WDR -Inquiry . About the corresponding amending regulation the Federal Council will decide next Friday. Until the end of the transition period, the application “may only take place if there are no alternative options, for example in the case of weeds that are difficult to control or areas at risk of erosion” – so it is in the voting proposal. Its use on areas that serve the general public, as well as in house and allotment gardens, is completely forbidden.

Herbicides How dangerous is glyphosate?

The pesticide glyphosate is controversial and can be found almost everywhere: in milk, grain and beer.

No further approval expected at EU level

Federal Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner (CDU) has also emphasized several times, a spokeswoman for her ministry told the WDR “It cannot be assumed that there will still be a majority after 2022 in favor of an extension of the glyphosate approval at EU level”.

In 2017, the dispute over glyphosate between the ministries almost led to a coalition crisis in Berlin. Because the former Agriculture Minister Christian Schmidt (CSU) voted “yes” in the responsible EU committee in Brussels , although the then Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks (SPD) strictly against an extension of the approval for glyphosate was. The different evaluations of the current incumbents are not so obvious. But in the letters of reply to the questions of the WDR There are differences: “Glyphosate-containing pesticides are important for soil-conserving and water-saving cultivation of arable land, especially in areas prone to erosion,” writes the Klöckner spokeswoman. Schulze’s spokesman, on the other hand, emphasizes the dangers for biodiversity: “As a total herbicide, glyphosate destroys all plants indiscriminately and thus destroys the food and livelihood for many insect species such as butterflies and, indirectly, for field birds such as the skylark.”

More money, more shelter and a long-term glyphosate phase-out. That is what the federal government has set out to do.

EU assessment expected in 2022

At the European level, the European Food Safety Authority EFSA and the European Chemicals Agency ECHA will start public participation at the beginning of September – results are expected in one year.

Bayer AG continues to rely on the controversial herbicide. Europe does not play a major role as a sales market. The agricultural countries in North and South America are more important. In the USA around ten billion euros have to be paid in the context of a settlement to 96,000 plaintiffs who blame glyphosate for their cancer, and billions more will be due for future plaintiffs . Bayer therefore wants to limit its use for private customers – but Roundup should continue to be used in large-scale agriculture. Only the warning notices should be made clearly more visible. glyphosate The weed killer glyphosate was developed by Bayer subsidiary Monsanto and marketed under the brand name Roundup. The herbicide is also manufactured by other companies, as the patent has expired for years. Bayer is faced with around 9,300 plaintiffs because of the weed killer in the United States, as glyphosate is suspected of being carcinogenic. This is based on the assessment of the International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC), which classified the active ingredient as “probably carcinogenic” in 2015. The Bayer Group always emphasizes that glyphosate is safe when used properly and relies on a large number of scientific studies.

At the end of 2017, the EU Commission extended the approval of glyphosate by five years and now has to make a new decision. A first round of talks is to take place in September and then the EU member states will be involved. Against this background, the EU Commission commissioned the assessment group for glyphosate (consisting of the testing authorities in France, Hungary, the Netherlands and Sweden) to prepare a draft of the risk assessment. This 11,000-page draft was submitted to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in mid-June 2021. A final recommendation from EFSA can be expected in the second half of 2022 after the submission has been examined

Origins of Disease: Animals, Humans, and the Next Global Pandemic (English title: Spillover: Animal Infection and the next human pandemics) is author David Quammen’s masterpiece of media coverage, providing a scientific perspective on pathogens that cause disease in animals and are sometimes transmitted to humans. human itself.

(Source: Medisights) The faces of murderers are different With disease origin, David Quammen weaves an exceptional story, a detective novel with very different, but also very real, killers. They are viruses, bacteria and protozoa that cause disease in animals, but sometimes, they will change their target and jump to humans. Each chapter of the book is a journey in pursuit of a new criminal, led by a team of detectives from all over the world. The book is the notes of David Quammen in the process of accompanying them, following the traces to find the culprit. After the first chapter on the terrible virus that decimates both horses and humans, the Ebola virus emerges through a dark story, with dead gorillas stacked on top of each other, carrion in the woods and magic. The story doesn’t need the usual Ebola hype to create a macabre atmosphere (with bloody tears and melted organs) and the author doesn’t need to, because the disease itself terrible enough. He is more interested in delving into these diseases, learning what we already know about them and how that helps us prevent new diseases from appearing in the future, while limiting their consequences. their fruit. In each chapter, the diseases gradually become clear, starting with just a couple of rumors, a few mysterious deaths that seem unrelated to each other. The investigation process gradually unravels the problem, until finally the truth of the culprit is revealed. Along the way, we’ll see the myriad ways pathogens can move from host to host – through feces, secretions, mucus and blood – and explore possible dangerous behaviors leads to exposure: climbing trees, drinking date sap, eating or simply touching dead animals. The author also looks for unintentional accomplices who are animals that carry the disease before it is transmitted to humans: pigs, birds, monkeys, gorillas and bats. The Detective’s Journey However, the real heroes here are the detectives – scientists who work non-stop, from the lab to the field, looking for answers to cases committed by petty murderers. baby caused. Not only talented in describing how the virus works, David Quammen is also very successful in painting portraits of those heroes: from molecular biologists studying SARS “with the instincts of a epidemiologist with the courage of a red-faced monkey”, to the ecologist with a passion for exotic oriental dishes, to the veterinary pathologist with “the tough and stern body of a The former rugby player has passed the age of 40. The historical details can be found in the book as well: 19th century scientists used optical microscopes to look for tiny organisms in the blood cells of malaria patients, while the virus continued to hide behind a veil of mystery until the invention of the electron microscope in the 1930s. Readers also see important historical milestones such as: President Hoover banned the import of parrots into the United States; an outbreak of arthritis and a rash, preceded by contact with deer ticks, in the town of Lyme in Connecticut; and a series of seemingly harmless, but actually deadly, cases in a series of male patients in the United States in the 1980s. Author David Quammen. Towards the end of the book, we’ll leave reality a little behind and embark on a fictional voyage to the origins of HIV along the Congo River. The author also asserts that the appearance of diseases transmitted from animals, pathogens that find us from other organisms, is not new, but is on the rise. He seeks to find the reason behind that phenomenon in the final chapter of the book: the huge population of humans, along with the immense amount of livestock, the destruction of natural habitats, damaged ecosystems. disruption – things that can completely turn into a debate about nature’s revenge on humanity. David Quammen is one of today’s most influential journalists and authors, a three-time US National Magazine Award recipient.
The Bennington Triangle’s biggest and longest-running mystery is the disappearances that raged in the area from 1945 to 1950. A newspaper reported the disappearance of the Bennington Triangle. When she returned later, she was unable to find her baby. A great search took place, but the boy was still silent. In 1949, three hunters went missing in the mountains. That same year, veteran James Tetford is believed to have disappeared from a crowded bus on Albans Road. Fourteen passengers testified that Tetford was falling asleep and then suddenly disappeared when the bus reached the terminal. A lengthy investigation has been organized, but the whereabouts of the man remains a mystery. The bus where Tedford had mysteriously disappeared. (Photo: Coolinterestingstuff) The year 1950 was the case with Frieda Lander. Lander’s clothes got wet during the hike with her friends and she decided to go back to the camp alone to change. Since then, no one has seen Lander anymore. Police, firefighters, the army and hundreds of volunteers, all rummaged through Glastenbury but it was not until May 1951 that Lander’s body was found. The above events are just six widely known unexplained disappearances among the other mysteries in the Bennington Triangle. (Photo: Internet) The unexplained facts associated with the Bennington Triangle have led many to speculate crazy. The story becomes even more thrilling with rumors of UFOs and giant Bigfoot in the area. The pattern of the disappearances led some to assume that there was a serial killer at Glastenbury. However, the lack of evidence and the diversity of the age and sex of the victim (excluding the common types of serial killers) reject this hypothesis. (Photo: Internet) Without a solid basis for the existence of a serial killer, the next interesting theories regarding a supernatural phenomenon such as a cursed rock that swallows strangers come close into the ravine. . These disappearances coupled with strange lights, sounds and odors led to conspiracy theories about the UFO’s arrival. People try to chain the disappearances together in hopes of finding explanations for the mysteries. The only similarity between these cases is that it happens in the Bennington Triangle. The time of day the victim was last seen is between 3 and 4 pm and is mostly in the last three months of the year. (Photo: Internet) Of all the research that has been done to uncover the mystery of the Bennington Triangle, a number of scientifically based answers have been provided. They still have some meaning, even if not completely satisfactory. One explanation is hypothermia. Temperatures in the mountains can drop very low, especially in winter – a time when the majority of mysterious disappearances occur. With hypothermia, humans tend to dig holes on their own – this is a survival behavior that causes one to find somewhere small and stay away from the crowd. It keeps the wind out and can keep the body warm enough, slowing the frostbite process, but often ends up dying and making the person harder to find. Another interpretation concerns the history of the area – a mining town. The mountain slopes are dotted with unmarked mines that can put hikers at risk. Both of these ways can explain why missing people are never found. (Photo: Internet) However, many people still believe that the above argument is not strong. Perhaps the most practical answer is that not all of the disappearances are the same way. Some may have met the killer, while others dug holes or fell. But if so, why did the disappearances last for only five years and stop so suddenly? To this day, the Bennington Triangle is still the topic of discussion for those who love mysterious stories. And the answer to the events surrounding this land remains a mystery.

Bao Yikang President and CEO of Ericsson

[ 研究显示，智慧工厂每季度可以降低25%的能源消耗。 ]

The epidemic has delayed the speed of 5G deployment in 2020, but 5G deployment is still a priority task in various regions, and its deployment speed depends on the quality of existing 4G and fixed broadband in different countries.

As the world looks forward to reviving the economy after the epidemic, the governments of many countries, including the United States, have announced significant investments in digital infrastructure. Ericsson President and CEO Börje Ekholm said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from China Business News during the Boao Forum for Asia 2021 annual meeting that the pandemic has accelerated the ongoing digital transformation. “In fact, we are beginning to digitize enterprises in a new way.”

However, on a global scale, 5G has not yet officially landed globally, and governments of various countries are still relatively cautious in the supervision of 5G spectrum auctions and supplier selection. There are still policy risks in the commercialization of 5G technology.

In this regard, Bao Yikang said frankly, “Usually, unforeseen risks are often the worst. Like business risks and technical risks, although these risks may occur, you are at least prepared. The hardest things are not. Foreseeable things, this is where I think major problems are most likely to occur. We don’t expect these problems to happen, but this situation may exist.”

The epidemic accelerates digital transformation

China Business News: How has the epidemic changed or affected the deployment of global 5G technology?

Bao Yikang: The pandemic has accelerated the already ongoing trend to some extent. For me, the pandemic has indeed accelerated the ongoing digital transformation. In fact, we are beginning to digitize enterprises in a new way.

One thing that is obvious (not so obvious in China) is that in some other places, not everyone can be connected, and when you disconnect in the digital world, it is a disaster.

Therefore, it can be said that what 5G can do and has not really done is to bridge the connectivity gap. We now see some countries, such as rural Europe or rural America, where there is no connectivity. There, investment will go into infrastructure to bridge this connectivity gap. I hope this is something 5G can do-like providing fiber-like functions in the air.

China Business News: How do you evaluate the Biden government’s plans and prospects for digital infrastructure construction?

Bao Yikang: It is difficult to say exactly how it turned out. But I think it is very clear that American politicians are at least aware of the need to provide connectivity to the people, including students, so that they can truly study and work remotely from home. At the same time, we can also see that 5G technology will promote innovation in new scenarios and use cases. I think that recognizing the importance of connectivity is part of a comprehensive understanding. This is nothing new in China, because it has been part of the plan in China for a long time.

China Business News: What do you think are the policy risks of deploying 5G networks? On a global scale, 5G has not yet been fully deployed, and some governments have changed their ideas about 5G. In this field, what is your biggest concern?

Bao Yikang: Under normal circumstances, unforeseen risks are often the worst. Like business risks and technical risks, although these risks may occur, you are at least ready. The hardest thing is the unpredictable. This is where I think the most likely big problems will occur. We do not expect these problems to occur, but this situation may exist.

Looking for 5G killer apps

China Business News: In your opinion, what are the most promising 5G application scenarios (whether for consumers or for industrial use)?

Bao Yikang: What we see in enterprises is that by transforming the factory into a completely wireless network (the work scenario), all cables can be saved first. Nowadays, in any factory, there are a lot of cables, which you can save.

Second, it can have great flexibility: if the factory does not have fixed wiring, it is much easier to reconfigure the factory. Therefore, with the help of wireless connection, you can move the configuration around.

Finally, the wireless network allows you to connect all the equipment in the factory, so you can really create a digital copy of the factory very easily through wireless connection.

This brings huge benefits, allowing for more flexible manufacturing. I do believe that production will become more personalized, and when everything can be configured via the wireless infrastructure, it will become easier, adjustments can be made when production changes and everything will move together.

I think the entire smart factory and Industry 4.0 itself will be a big use case. But you can have multiple use cases within this scope. This is why the concept of a killer application is much harder.

A smart factory allows you to connect everything without wiring to create a “digital twin”, which can have more flexible production methods, such as drone monitoring of machines, or production monitoring for inspection. All of these appear together in the smart factory.

From a broader perspective, we can talk about the two interesting industries of automobiles and airports. Now everyone is looking for the so-called “killer apps.” In fact, after the infrastructure is complete, this kind of application will naturally appear. This may be beyond the scope of our discussion today.

In Paris, we are helping Air France and our partners provide services for the professional ecosystem of more than 120,000 people in these three major airports in Paris, involving approximately 1,000 companies of different sizes and in different industries. The private mobile network deployed by Ericsson provides a safe, fast and reliable private network solution for the airport. It is suitable for all indoor and outdoor spaces.

We just announced that we will cooperate with Orange Spain to empower the dedicated network of automotive design, testing, engineering and official certification companies (Applus+IDIADA). The private network will include 5G coverage to help develop and certify next-generation automotive applications and services. Orange Spain’s 5G private network will cover the entire site, helping to achieve proof-of-concept testing, development and technical certification. Autonomous driving technology, automated services, vehicle performance, telematics, and in-vehicle infotainment are the key points.

If you turn to the consumer side, I believe AR and VR will be dramatic. For example, you can wear AR glasses, and whether it is a game application or other immersive entertainment activities, it provides a lot of flexibility for creating new use cases.

In South Korea, 5G is providing rich content for games, ultra-high-definition video, and augmented and virtual reality-based applications.

Service providers in markets such as South Korea, China, and Japan are developing AR and VR-based services and tying headsets with 5G tariffs. By 2030, AR alone may bring half of the immersive media revenue for service providers.

Another important focus is gaming, including signing contracts and agreements with international gaming companies and providing innovative gaming services to 5G users. According to statistics from SK Telecom, as of the end of last year, 5G users used gaming applications 2.7 times more frequently than 4G users.

The key to improving 5G services is to build the network well. South Korea has proved this, users can migrate all of their business, and this will also encourage users to increase consumption.

Therefore, my confirmation is that 5G will be more dramatic than 4G.

Causes of 5G backwardness in Europe

China Business News: Some analysts believe that Europe is slightly behind in 5G construction. One view is that the rate of return on investment is not proportional to capital investment as the cause of this problem. In addition, there are also views that this is related to the aging of the population. The population aging in Europe is faster than that in China and the United States. What do you think is the reason why Europe is lagging behind in 5G construction?

Bao Yikang: China is actively building 5G networks, South Korea and the United States will also achieve 5G coverage as soon as possible, and Europe will lag behind in this process. This fact is very clear, unless something changes.

There may be several reasons for the backward 5G construction in Europe: first, 5G spectrum allocation and auction methods; second, 5G website access rights; third, whether to legislate to provide compensation to operators, communication operators pay a lot when building 5G networks Additional cost. I also want to say that the European communications market is relatively fragmented. There are three communication operators in China and 200 in Europe. Europe is an extremely fragmented market, so it is difficult for communication operators to obtain scale effects, and only by forming scale effects can a large-scale communication market be established.

CBN: You once said that the development of 5G can reduce global carbon emissions by 15%. How is this achieved?

Bao Yikang: The communication technology industry has applied smarter algorithms and better asset planning. For example, communication technology can turn off building heating or night air conditioning at night. Through the above practices, we can reduce global energy and carbon emissions, all of which rely on digital infrastructure.

For example, we built a smart factory in the United States. Compared with the old factory that installed a lot of cables, the new factory has realized wireless connection. We installed a lot of monitoring equipment to measure the differences in carbon emissions between the old and new factories. Research shows that smart factories can reduce energy consumption by 25% every quarter.

Therefore, we believe that industrial digital transformation can make a huge contribution to reducing emissions. This is the case in the oil and gas industry, and in the shipping industry, things similar to what we do in the United States can also be used to reduce carbon emissions.

If you believe that sustainable development can solve the climate crisis, I think telecommunications infrastructure and digital infrastructure will be one of the key components. I am excited about this. I think investment is expected to enter the field of green economy, which will also contribute to the development of our industry and the world.

In recent years, vehicle safety has become a key concern of consumers, especially new energy products. Due to the frequent occurrence of accidents such as spontaneous combustion and broken axles of electric vehicles, consumers are more suspicious of the safety of new energy products.

Just a few days ago, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu said at the new car launch conference: “Safety is the greatest luxury of electric vehicles.” He also announced that BYD’s all-electric models have begun to switch the blade batteries and start acupuncture testing. As a corporate standard. From this point, we can see that BYD’s determination to build safety products and its confidence in blade batteries.

In addition to the active and passive safety of the vehicle itself, the health and safety indicators of the vehicle are also important, because there may also be colorless, odorless and invisible “killers” in the vehicle. The indicators of volatile organic compounds (VOC), odor intensity (VOI), and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) of vehicles should also arouse our attention.

In fact, BYD paid attention to these early and has already taken action. It is worth mentioning that BYD’s flagship sedan Han won the five-star evaluation of the “China Automobile Health Index” and the honor of the recommended model in 2020. BYDhan’s three indicators of VOC, VOI, and EMR have reached the industry’s excellent level. It is very difficult to control each indicator. How does BYD do it?

Everyone knows that carcinogens such as formaldehyde and benzene are called “invisible killers.” Due to the use of PVC materials and asphalt, these volatile organic compounds will exist in the car. The concentration of these substances exceeds the standard and poses a threat to people’s health.

BYD has been doing research on volatile organic compounds (VOC) since 2009 and established a fully equipped VOC vehicle test room in 2012. Han adopted a new “baby-grade” coating and cleaning process, replacing all PVC materials with PU materials, and using water-based LASD spray-type damping materials to replace traditional asphalt damping materials for body sound insulation materials to reduce air pollution in the car.

At the same time, in the vehicle VOC laboratory and auto parts VOC laboratory, BYD increases the ambient temperature, increases the volatilization rate of organic substances, and detects the concentration of harmful substances to ensure that various parts and vehicles can meet the standards.

Of course, most products on the market can guarantee that volatile organic compounds are within the standard, but the smell in the car is unacceptable. Although smelling does not mean it is harmful, too much smell makes people in the car feel uncomfortable. Therefore, BYD has set up a special odor identification team to strictly control the comfort of the odor in the car through sniffing. There is no doubt that Han has set the interior odour index in the early stage of development.

In fact, BYD’s odor identification team has gone through a complicated training process, and the employment standards are very strict. Team members must have good living habits, do not smoke, do not drink, have a good work and rest, etc., and are sensitive to smells. Through six months to one year of training on odor sensitivity and memory, team members have exercised a “golden nose” and rated the tested components.

In addition to VOC and VOI, BYD is also very concerned about electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from vehicles. Have you heard of these rumors, such as “5G base stations have high radiation and are harmful to health”, “riding a high-speed train is equivalent to taking X-rays”, “flighting on a plane is equivalent to having 10 chest X-rays”, etc. These rumors have no scientific basis. As a new energy product, electric vehicles will also produce electromagnetic radiation. Although there is no evidence that the electromagnetic radiation of automobiles can cause harm to the human body, BYD will still reduce the level of electromagnetic radiation in the car, so that consumers can rest assured.

Through a large number of scientific experiments in leading laboratories, BYD has controlled the electromagnetic radiation level in the car to be lower than that of air conditioners and LED lights. Han’s vehicle system has been optimized and designed to ensure that the electromagnetic radiation of the vehicle is at a low level under high-speed, rapid acceleration and deceleration conditions. Moreover, in the field of automotive electromagnetic compatibility, BYD has invested a lot of energy and money, and conducted a large number of exploratory tests to ensure that its products can reach higher standards.

Consumers are paying more and more attention to the health and safety of vehicles, as Wang Chuanfu said: “Safety is the greatest luxury of electric vehicles.” For car companies, what they have to do now is to do more research, because the more research, the greater the gain. If you want to stay ahead, you have to explore a lot of things on your own.

The Biden administration is expected to impose sanctions on Russia on allegations of election meddling and the attack on the SolarWinds energy system, Bloomberg reported.

The US intends to punish a series of Russian diplomats.

Accordingly, 12 Russian individuals, including intelligence officials and government officials, and 20 other entities in the US sanctions category.

In addition, Washington is also preparing to expel 10 Russian diplomats.

Just last week, Bloomberg reported that the US administration had completed an intelligence assessment of Russia’s potential role in a cyberattack against SolarWinds and meddling in the 2020 presidential election.

The White House is considering actions against US diplomats, including punishing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s advisers and agencies involved in allegations of election interference.

In mid-March, US intelligence released a new report, alleging that Putin had authorized the Russian government’s “influence activities” to undermine the then Democratic candidate. Biden in the 2020 election and exacerbated political divisions in the US.

The Kremlin considers the report “completely unfounded and unfounded” and expressed its belief that this is just an excuse to introduce new sanctions. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia does not interfere in the US vote, is not involved in the campaign against any candidate. He also noted that Washington’s sanctions policy could exacerbate bilateral relations.

One day earlier, the RIA news agency quoted information from the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that Russia would act decisively if the US took new “unfriendly steps” such as imposing sanctions.

The same day, the White House announced that the new US administration would work towards a stable relationship with Russia, but to seek predictability rather than trust between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Mr. Biden recently offered to have a face-to-face conference with the Russian president in a European country. The Russian president just “wished him well” and invited Mr. Biden to a face-to-face conversation after hearing that the US President agreed with the view that Putin was a “murderer”.

The deep disagreement is expressed through the latest phone call of the Russian-US President.

On April 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden held a telegram to discuss the tensions in Ukraine, security issues and the importance of nuclear arms control. . The White House has also proposed holding a formal meeting “in a third country”.

In a statement on April 13, US officials confirmed that the two leaders of Russia and the US had talked about “a series of regional and international issues”.

Presidents Biden and Putin telephoned, but Russia-US relations are still difficult to escape tension. (Photo: RT)

Specifically, President Biden has “voiced concerns about unusual Russian military maneuvers” on the Crimean peninsula and along the Ukrainian border. Mr. Biden called on Moscow to take action “to cool down”.

The exchange between the Russian-US President comes at a time when the danger of conflict between the Ukrainian army and Moscow-backed militants inside the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine shows signs of pushing up into a total war. The move to mobilize large numbers of troops and weapons by the Kiev government has led Russia to also strengthen its military presence along the Ukrainian border.

Some Western countries accuse Moscow of planning to invade Ukraine, but Russian officials have repeatedly denied.

In a move intended to show support for Ukraine, Washington dispatched two warships to the Black Sea.

For its part, the Kremlin says the situation in Donbass is “extremely horrible”, and Russian diplomats have previously expressed concerns with their American counterparts.

But US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Washington was worried about receiving “credible reports” about the movement of Russian troops near the border between Russia and Ukraine and called for “Russia. restraint to avoid escalating stress ”.

Over the past few months, the US-Russia relationship has deteriorated. Moscow even summoned the Russian ambassador to the country to conduct urgent discussions about the future of relations with Washington.

Specifically, the Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, returned home after in an interview President Biden called Putin a “murderer”. Mr. Biden’s comments have met with strong criticism from many Russian officials.

For his part, Putin used a maxim to disprove Mr. Biden’s claim. According to Mr. Putin, Mr. Biden is “breaking our belly to the stomach”.

“I remember that when we were kids, we played together on the field and used to say ‘belly-up’. It is not a joke or a kid’s sentence, this one has a profound psychological meaning. We always see our own qualities in others and think they really are like us, “Putin said.

According to Putin, the US is “determined” to build relations with Russia, but “only on matters that are beneficial to the US”.

Concluding a phone call between the two presidents on April 13, the US said that Biden’s goal was to build a “predictable and stable relationship with Russia in line with American interests”. In addition, the US also proposed to hold a summit in the next few months, to create an opportunity for the two leaders to “discuss the issues that Russia and the US are facing together”.

In a statement at the end of April 13, the Kremlin said President Biden “expressed a desire to normalize bilateral relations” and sought a consensus on arms control operations, chapter nuclear process, situation in Afghanistan and global climate change problem.

In the past, Russian President Putin met with Biden’s predecessor, former President Donald Trump, in Helsinki in 2018.

For now, Moscow is still skeptical of the White House wanting to hold a constructive dialogue.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “No one allows the US to talk to Russia in a strong position.” Instead, the two countries should treat each other fairly, Mr. Peskov said.
