In the communal house of Tan Xuong 2 village, Suoi Cat commune (Cam Lam, Khanh Hoa), there is a small shrine. On the altar is a picture of a Western man with white hair, a firm face, very calm eyes through the dust of time. That is the doctor Alexandre Yersin, who in his rich life, made many miracles, has publicly opened this whole Suoi Dau area since the end of the 19th century. He was worshiped by the people here for many generations as a sage of this land.

Yersin shrine in Tan Xuong village 2 (Suoi Dau, Cam Lam, Khanh Hoa). Mr. Tran Sum, 63, head of Tan Xuong 2 village, when he opened the door for us to visit the communal house, introduced: – Our people still used to call Mr. Yersin Mr. Nam. In Tan Xuong village, we have a temple of Ong Nam for a long time. But this is a new shrine, because since the separation to establish Tan Xuong 2 village, villagers built communal houses and built more teachers’ shrines. He is the sage of the whole region, including the villagers of Xinjiang 2. Our people are forever grateful and remember him! On festive occasions, people here and visitors from all over the world still come here to smoke incense, offer sacrifices and ask for his blessing for a peaceful and prosperous life! It is known that Alexandre Yesin first came to Nha Trang in 1891, when this area was still isolated from the surrounding area. He was a famous scientist who was the first to discover the plague bacteria in the world, named after him (Yersin Pestis), the discoverer of the Lam Vien plateau – Da Lat and also the pioneer of the plague. opened roads from the central region through this plateau to Cambodia and Laos. Love of life and people, like a predestined fate, attached Alexander Yersin to the land of Nha Trang and Suoi Dau, including Tan Xuong village. Statue of Alexander Yersin in the central park of Dalat. In 1898, when he returned to Nha Trang, Yersin built the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang and expanded hundreds of hectares of land in Suoi Dau area to set up a farm. He brought here many precious plants and animals. He planted coffee, coca, opened a rubber plantation, built a center to produce anti-epidemic serum for cows, turning this place into a center for agricultural science research and experiments. He built a dispensary to serve local people, together with them to develop production and improve living standards in this area. From Suoi Dau, in 1914, Yersin continued to explore Hon Ba mountain, reclaimed thousands of hectares of the area around the mountain, introduced new plants to plant, raise and protect birds, plant forests and advise people quit the habit of burning forests. He planted quinoa and experimented with producing anti-malarial drugs for people. The development of Suoi Dau – Hon Ba area to this day originates from the tectonics and expansions of Yersin 123 years ago. The remembrance of the people of this region for him is the Vietnamese principle of “When drinking water, remember the source”. During a recent trip through the Central Highlands and Central provinces, I often think of Yersin’s image when he and a few locals explore this land. The trips through the sacred forests of poisonous water, without human footprints. Long trips with elephants through the plateau to southern Laos and northern Cambodia. There was a trip where he was robbed and nearly killed himself if the locals did not promptly save him… The highways on the Central Highlands are getting longer and wider and linking the whole region today with traces from the trails of the year. Yersin and his companions went to search and explore. In the central park of Da Lat city, there is a bust of Yersin made of gray stone, where a panoramic view of this dreamy city can be seen hidden in the morning mist. Surely Yersin was also pleased when on the plateau that he discovered during his expedition in 1893, such a beautiful city was born. Yersin’s tombstone. On the way from Da Lat to Nha Trang, we passed through Hon Ba – Suoi Dau area, which is undergoing many changes. We visited Alexandre Yersin’s grave (1863-1943) in the middle of a quiet green area, with only the sound of the wind whispering like a song over the years to remember him, a man from far away who came and loved the piece. this land as the fate of his life. On a normal day, there are still fresh flower petals on the grave. 78 years ago, when he passed away, Yersin donated everything he had built to his associates and people here, with his will to be buried in Suoi Dau, his second hometown. The building of Indochina Medical School, where Yersin was the first Principal, formerly. The imprints of Alexander Yersin, a great man who has been honored as an “honorary citizen of Vietnam”, are still preserved in many places in this country: the system of Pasteur institutes (institute of hygiene and epidemiology). in Vietnam, which he and his colleagues laid the foundation for, is still growing and playing a very important role in the fight against the epidemic, especially these days. first, then the Hanoi University of Medicine and Pharmacy, which have developed into large training centers for human health care.Da Lat city on Lam Vien plateau, “city city” thousands of flowers” is also growing day by day, there are roads and flower gardens, centers named Yersin in Hanoi, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat… Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (Pasteur Institute) on Yersin Street in Hanoi. Everyone’s life is finite.
TS. Alexandre Yersin born in 1863 in the State of Vaud, Switzerland. At the age of 20, he studied medicine in Lausanne (Switzerland), then continued to study in Marbourg (Germany) and graduated from the University of Paris (France) with a doctorate in medicine. Since 1886, Yersin worked at the Pasteur Institute and collaborated with Dr. Roux to find out the toxin of the diphtheria bacteria. In 1889, Yersin naturalized French. Yersin- the world-famous doctor thanks to the discovery of bacteria that cause plague. A bright future is opening up Young Yersin . However, in addition to his passion for medicine, Yersin has a desire to explore nature. To fulfill his dream of exploring strange lands, he would like to be a doctor on a transport ship floating at sea. In 1892, he went to Nha Trang, Vietnam. The tropical climate is full of mysteries and attractions that make the decision to live, work and stick with this land. Here, he made expeditions to discover new lands. Thanks to these trips, Yersin found Lang Biang Plateau. That was January 1893, he made an expedition that lasted for nearly 7 months. After crossing the rugged mountains and ethnic minority villages, in June 1893 Yersin discovered Lam Vien Plateau (Lang Biang Plateau), 1,500 meters high, today Da Lat city. Yersin wrote in his notebook: “The impression is so profound. Out of the pine forest, I saw right in front of the vast, bare plateau, like the sea was rolling in green waves. The Lam Mountains. Vien with 3 peaks of 2,000 meters, rising from the northwest horizon, creates a majestic backdrop that enhances the magnificence of this region “. In 1897, it was he who proposed to the Governor-General of Indochina, Paul Dumer, to choose this place as the site for the construction of the sanatorium. Then, by a trip to the plateau with the Governor-General of Indochina, he took part in deciding to establish a nursing station on Lang Biang Plateau – the forerunner of Da Lat city later. The first person to find the bacteria that cause the plague In 1894, while preparing to make the next expedition, at the request of the French Government and the Pasteur Institute, Yersin traveled to Hong Kong to study the plague. Here he saw dead bodies of plague dead in the streets, among puddles, in gardens, on moored boats. Yersin has spent most of his life in Vietnam. When Yersin discovered that his colleagues were looking for the plague bacteria in the blood, Yersin said that this is not the right way. According to Yersin, the bacteria must be found in the lymph nodes. With the help of Vigano, an Italian living in Hong Kong, Yersin works in a straw-covered bamboo shack. In order to get the corpses for experimentation, he had to pay money to British sailors who were supposed to bury the bodies. Thanks to that, Yersin was able to enter the body cellar several hours before the body was taken to the cemetery. He had to remove the lime coating the corpse, cut the lymph nodes himself from the corpse and bring it to his laboratory. The microscope shows a multitude of homogeneous images of stick-shaped, two-headed, stick-shaped bacteria. Yersin injected the bacteria into the mouse, twenty-four hours after the mouse died. Other test animals die from two to six days and in cadavers full of lymph nodes. Over a period of seven days, Yersin found the plague bacteria. He sent to the Pasteur Paris Institute a number of fully filled test tubes taken from the sick lymph nodes. When the plague in Hong Kong has calmed down, Yersin returned to France to work with colleagues on the vaccine to prevent it, and the sera (sérum) to treat the plague. When the serum production was completed, Yersin asked to return to Nha Trang to set up a laboratory and build a horse farm in Suoi Dau to produce a lot of serum to prevent patients in neighboring countries. In 1975, the Tenth World Congress of Biology decided to name the plague bacterium “Yersinia-Pestis”. Scientists said that Dr. Yersin was the benefactor of humanity when it was able to prevent the plague at that time. Add more imprints In 1902 – 1904, at the request of Governor-General of Indochina Paul Dumer, Yersin went to Hanoi to establish and run the Indochina Medical and Pharmaceutical School in Hanoi – the first medical training facility of the Indochinese peninsula. built according to the model of the West. Besides medicine, Yersin is passionate about exploring new lands During those difficult early years, Yersin worked actively to found the Medical and Pharmaceutical University and became the first principal of the University (a member of Indochina University in 1906, later to become the University of Indochina). Ha Noi medical university). With his contributions and dedication to the field of medicine, in 1904, Yersin was appointed as a representative of Pasteur Paris Institute in Indochina and Director of Pasteur Institute Saigon and Nha Trang. He also holds many important positions in the health sector. Not only contributing in the medical field, he also has many contributions in the agricultural field. He was the first to import rubber trees from Brazil to plant in Vietnam. Not only importing trees, he also pays special attention to the methods of planting, exploiting and processing rubber to have the highest efficiency. He set up an agrochemical laboratory. Here, the methods of breeding, tapping and coagulating rubber have been studied in a systematic way. Thanks to that, rubber growers in Indochina in the past no longer had to struggle as before. Yersin breathed his last in early 1943. According to his wishes, when he was buried, he was placed on his stomach, his head turned to the sea so that he forever embraced his second home land. Invite readers to watch the video: From a little girl in appearance to the top Beauty blogger in Vietnam.
