March 2021 saw a staggering recovery in the domestic auto market after the end of the Lunar New Year and the Covid-19 epidemic had stabilized.

According to the sales report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the sales volume of the whole market reached 30,935 vehicles, including 21,089 passenger cars; 9,227 commercial vehicles and 619 specialized vehicles.

The multipurpose vehicle (SUV / Crossover) segment also witnessed a significant increase in sales compared to the previous month. Specifically, according to the VAMA report, 8,890 units were sold, more than doubling compared to February (with 4,136 units). This segment also accounted for 40.6% of passenger cars sold in March.

In the past month, the top 5 best-selling cars in the segment were still the presence of familiar names in the first three positions: KIA Seltos, Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-5.

However, the surprise happened in the last two positions when Hyundai Tucson surpassed the “brother” SantaFe. Most surprising is the rise of the SUV Suzuki XL7 to be in the top 5 for the first time.

1. KIA Seltos: 1,602 pcs

KIA Seltos has maintained high sales for many months and reached 1,602 units in March, up 58% from the previous month, leading the segment and ranked 4th in the best-selling car market. .

Seltos uses two engine blocks of 1.4L Kappa combined with a 7-speed automatic transmission for a maximum capacity of 138 horsepower and a 1.6-liter engine combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission for a maximum capacity of 121 horsepower. .

2. Toyota Corolla Cross: 1,390 units

With 1,390 units sold in March, Toyota’s Crossover model has continued to outpace the Mazda CX-5 to firmly stand at number 2 in the best-selling multi-purpose vehicle segment. This sales increased more than 91% from the previous month.

Accumulated in the first 3 months of the year, Corolla Cross sold to the market approximately 3,000 units, also ranked second after KIA Seltos.
