Scholz in the Wirecard scandal Political leadership from yesterday

Status: 22.06.2021 5:50 p.m.

Finance Minister Scholz bears political responsibility for the Wirecard scandal. An apology would be appropriate. Because of his antiquated understanding of political leadership, there won’t be.

A comment by Tobias Betz, ARD capital studio

After eight months of the committee of inquiry, the question of political responsibility remains. And that is a fundamental question of political culture. Because there is not a word of regret from the government. Let’s not kid ourselves: this is shameful, but the reality.

The finance minister is politically responsible

Let’s take a look at the situation: The Wirecard case is one of the biggest financial scandals in Germany. At least 24 billion euros in damage. Everything happened in front of the eyes of the responsible authorities, which did not do their job in any way and at any time. And that is why there is certainly someone who is politically responsible – and that is the Federal Minister of Finance in this financial scandal. But Olaf Scholz makes it easy for himself. Not responsible, not involved, more like an observer. He could very well have – and should have – intervened. Because the Ministry of Finance has the legal and technical supervision of the Bafin. This is the financial supervisory authority. And she made gross miscalculations; she even supported Wirecard at times, reported journalists who had clues.

Not ready for self-reflection

Mistakes have been made. And the Scholz Ministry is responsible for ensuring that the financial supervision process works. If it just doesn’t work, then Scholz, as a minister, could be the size and have the courage to admit that mistakes have happened here. Honest words of regret. Society doesn’t really ask that much, a “Mea Culpa!”, “My mistake!” Is often enough. But Scholz is apparently not ready for this kind of error culture, critical self-reflection.

Don’t make any mistakes, least of all admit none

Maybe he’s not ready to do so because of the election campaign. Just don’t make any mistakes, least of all admit any mistakes. Protect yourself, after all, he is a candidate for chancellor. Namely one who advertises to have a lot of government experience. But leadership doesn’t include ironing out and fending off everything. That is an understanding of political leadership from the past. Mistakes happen, people make mistakes and they are allowed to admit them. That would be honest and brave. But as a consequence, calls for resignation like those from the AfD are out of place.

The Chancellor apologized

That promotes this unspeakable error culture in politics. If every mistake immediately costs the post, then it is already clear that there can be no political Mea Culpa. Chancellor Angela Merkel once broke with this culture of mistakes. During the lockdown policy at Easter. She had to withdraw an overnight decision to introduce an additional public holiday. But she didn’t do that quietly and without comment. No, she stood in front of Parliament and apologized in public for it. Apparently this remains an exception. But the Chancellor has the format of a chancellor. Editorial note Comments generally reflect the opinion of the respective author and not that of the editors

The first episode of the five-episode large-scale political film “The Look of You” in the centenary of the founding of the party “Faith” Faith is the spiritual “calcium” of communists. From the bloody revolutionary war period to the arduous new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, for centuries, the Chinese Communists have always strengthened their ideals and convictions, united and led the people to overcome difficulties and invincible. This kind of power travels through time and space and becomes stronger over time, illuminating the way forward and enlightening the future. At the beginning of the 20th century, China was dying and distressed. In the days of wind and rain, the first full Chinese translation of the “Communist Manifesto” was published, like a flash of lightning, piercing the dark night. The founding of the Communist Party of China promoted Marxism toward factories and mines. In the face of heavy oppression, more and more workers have picked up the “Communist Manifesto”, took the initiative to absorb progressive ideas, and draw on the strength of struggle. People also brought pamphlets with the head of the “big beard” to the countryside. The seeds of faith began to take root in the fields. In those days, no matter where they were, many people were using their own methods to pursue the brightest in their beliefs. In 1927, the Kuomintang, which betrayed the revolution, blatantly “cleared the party against the Communist Party” throughout the country. Zhang Chaoxie, then the head of the organization of the CCP’s Yongxiu District Committee, was killed by bandits. Wang Jingyan, who studied far away in Moscow, resolutely returned to China and continued his revolutionary career where her husband had struggled before his death. Wang Jingyan and the male comrades travelled through the mountains and rivers to carry out rural work. Within a year, the county’s Communist Party members grew to more than 400. On a rainy night full of thoughts, she lightly chanted the lyrics “I and You” that she and her husband wrote together, “Great ideals and common ambitions, let us live and die together, I am you.” In June 1928, 26-year-old Wang Jingyan died after being arrested. When Fanghua was 25 and 26 years old, why did Zhang Chaoxie and Wang Jingyan take care of their lives and revolutionize them at their own expense? Later generations tried to understand their beliefs and choices from the letters. Countless young soldiers of the Red Army have traded their young lives for the hope of the Chinese revolution. And most of them couldn’t even leave their names. In 1934, when the Red Army assembled, the 17 brothers in Ruijinhuawu Village, Jiangxi once planted 17 pine trees, telling their families that “seeing the pine is like seeing the person”. They rushed to the battlefield and never returned. Today, these 17 “trees of faith” are still thriving. At the beginning of the founding of New China, one was poor and the other was in vain, and a hundred waste was waiting for prosperity. People embark on a new Long March road. The 26-year-old “Han of Coal” Ma Wanshui responded to the call of the state and came to Hebei Longyan Iron Mine, which supplies much-needed resources for large-scale construction across the country. Yu Changqing, former member of the “Ma Wanshui Group” recalled, “He wielded a 12-pound sledgehammer, and later hit 800 and 1,000. Others won’t work for three or two minutes, and Ma Wanshui’s eye is five or six minutes. His strength is too great.” The real and imminent sense of crisis pushed Ma Wanshui forward. This persevering Communist Party member firmly believes that the hands of workers will eventually build a modern socialist China. Sixty years have passed, and the Ma Wanshui team, which initially had only 18 people, has stepped forward step by step, went abroad, and developed into a company with an annual output value of nearly 300 million yuan. The journey of the road is consistent. The river of history continues to rush forward. In 1977, 19-year-old Huang Danian went all the way north from Guixian, Guangxi to Jilin University. On the days when the snow was flying, he wandered in the sea of knowledge in the thin clothes, hungry and thirsty, not feeling cold at all. When graduating from undergraduate, Huang Danian wrote a farewell message in the notebook of his classmates. Just 9 words, it’s as heavy as possible. The scorching faith, supporting all the efforts and fatigue of these years, has long been melted into the core of his life. Huang Danian’s return to China promoted China’s entry into the “Deep Earth Era” and took five years to complete the 20-year road of developed countries. The hero has no regrets, this Communist Party member who pursues ideals and sticks to his faith all his life dedicated his most precious life to the motherland where his dreams started. Several generations of communists have succumbed to the road, worked hard, and passed on from generation to generation, never giving up. This belief originates from the scientific theory of Marxism. Today, the same belief is resonating in the “back wave.” Time flies, the world on the map has undergone profound changes in a century. The gleams of light in the long chaotic night have now converged into a dazzling galaxy. The vicissitudes of Linggu, the original intention remains the same. No matter what era, the Communists’ determination to pursue their ideals and serve the people has never changed, and their beliefs have become stronger over time. According to the sheet Washington Post, Worldwide, one-fifth of the total rice yield today comes from varieties created by the father of hybrid rice Vien Long Binh. In June 2020, Mr. Vien’s research team embarked on a trial planting of hybrid rice in a field 2,800 meters above sea level in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, northwest China. Not long after a severe nationwide famine in the 1960s, the young scientist was determined to research how to increase the production of rice, a staple food for more than 60% of the Chinese people. And then he began a special lifelong relationship with rice. Mr. Vien Long Binh has achieved many achievements in research and production of the world’s first high-yielding hybrid rice varieties since 1973, which can achieve yields above 500 kg/mu (about 0.067 ha), compared to with the previous only 300 kg/mu. In 1996, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China officially established the breeding program of super hybrid rice. And just four years later, the first phase of the target reached 10.5 tons/ha. This record was broken three more times when it increased to 12 tons in 2004, 13.5 tons in 2011 and 15 tons/ha in 2014. Not only stopping at mainland China, Mr. Vien’s hybrid rice during this period was widely grown in more than 40 countries, including the US, Brazil, India, Vietnam, the Philippines and Madagascar. According to the Xinhua News Agency , the total area of hybrid rice has reached 8 million hectares abroad thanks to the contributions of Mr. Vien and his associates who have worked with dozens of countries around the world to solve the problems of food security as well as the situation of poor people.
Somali Government soldiers patrol the streets of Mogadishu. (Photo: AFP / VNA) Security Council United Nations On April 23, (UN Security Council) passed a statement calling on factions in Somalia to end the violence and immediately return to dialogue in the spirit of considering this as an urgent matter and not setting conditions. This move shows that the Security Council is very concerned about the crisis situation in Somalia. In the release released, members Security Council All expressed concern about the continued political stalemate here and disagreement among leaders of this country over the issue of electoral patterns. Before that, on March 31st, after the emergency meeting, the Security Council was call upon Somali government please resolve the issues related to the electoral process. The legitimate administration of President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, more commonly known as Farmajo, has caused controversy since February when his term ended with a new presidential election still not being conducted. By early April, a bill to extend his presidency by two years was introduced, bypassing the Senate after it was passed by the House of Representatives. Government opposition parties have voiced their opposition because it is an unconstitutional act to cling to power and the bill itself has been criticized by the international community. Somalia’s president and leaders of the five semi-autonomous states in the country last September reached an agreement that paved the way for presidential and parliamentary elections in late 2020 and early 2021 but This plan was broken by controversy surrounding the voting process and since then many rounds of negotiations have not been held to resolve this deadlock issue.

Mr. Kim Boo-kyum (left), a former four-term congressman and former Interior Minister, was nominated as the new Prime Minister of Korea. (Source: Yonhap)

President Moon Jae-in’s selection of this figure in a reform of his cabinet seems to be aimed at giving new momentum to his leadership, which has been affected by the ruling Democrats’ defeat in the Mayor election Seoul and Busan on April 7.

If approved by the Korean National Assembly, Mr. Kim Boo-kyum will replace Mr. Chung Sye-kyun, who has resigned after 15 months in this position. Chung is expected to participate in the presidential election of South Korea next year.

Mr. Kim held the position of Interior Minister from 2017-2019 and ran for MP in Daegu city, 302 km southeast of Seoul, as a candidate for the ruling party.

Mr. Kim was born in 1958 in Sangju town, North Gyeongsang province, the stronghold of the main opposition People’s Power Party (PPP).

Political observers see President Moon’s choice of Mr. Kim as a political message towards national unity.

Both Mr. Chung and Mr. Lee Nak-yon, the first Prime Minister in the Moon administration, are from Jeolla Province, the southwestern province, the longstanding power base of the Democratic Party.

Dozens of artists and celebrities in Myanmar were arrested and wanted. Miss international contest was stuck in a foreign country because of ‘trot’ calling for peace …

Miss Myanmar Peace Han Lay is staying in Thailand after a speech calling for the world to support her people.

The cultural and artistic life is paralyzed. The shadow from the political crisis still lies in the country of these golden towers.

Artists spread the message everywhere

Myanmar is still sinking in days of political instability, a series of areas severely affected, including culture and arts.

All over the newspapers, Burmese artists and celebrities do not appear in splendid costumes, lavish lights or on majestic films, expensive music videos … Thousands of artists fall in. unemployed or having to be lost in foreign countries. Many people took to the streets to call for peace.

CNN said actress Paing Phyo Thu, one of Myanmar’s highest-paid stars, declared to go to the streets to protest against the authorities. She is not even afraid to withdraw her budget to support those who have to quit their jobs to join the protest. Currently, her husband, director Na Gyi, is also running away after being listed as a wanted.

“We want the audience to know that we are always there for them. Knowing that speaking out like this is very dangerous, we have no way back now. We will fight to the end. Whether or not the order has been issued or not, as long as I am alive, I will oppose the military government that is bullying and killing the people, ”said Paing Phyo Thu.

Actress Phyoe Thu regularly participates in marches in Yangon city after the political upheaval took place

Currently, many artists and celebrities have to leave their families to avoid being wanted from the authorities such as: Actor Payeti Oo, director Ko Pauk, actor Lu Min, director Wine, singer Anatga …

The case of Miss Myanmar Peace Han Lay is an example. On the stage of the world level competition, Han Lay made practical calls for the international community to pay attention to the instability problem in his homeland and join hands to help them through the dark period.

A few days later, she was immediately put on the wanted list. Luckily, 9x is supported by the Head of the contest BTC for the cost and job opportunity in Thailand. However, Han Lay still does not stop worrying about relatives back home.

Even worse, many artists were arrested by the military, currently unknown whereabouts. Famous model and actress Paing Takhon was arrested on April 8 for speaking out against the coup. Takhon’s sister told Reuters news agency that the military arrested her brother at 4:30 a.m. at their parents’ home in Yangon. Security forces dispatched eight military trucks and about 50 soldiers to arrest Takhon, not sure where to take the actor. Before that, on April 6, the country’s most famous comedian, Zarganar, was also arrested.

Composing inspiration opposed the coup

Actor Paing Takhon was arrested by the authorities

The news website Coda Story said that while many artists and people took to the streets to call for an end to the violence, the wave of protests still crept through art products, especially music.

A series of rappers day and night produce songs that protest against the coup. “Dozens of tracks by hip-hop artists living in Myanmar and abroad have been uploaded to social media platforms and streaming sites, including Facebook, YouTube and Soundcloud. Music marks a new front in the ongoing information war against the military authorities, ”commented writer Burhan Wazir.

One of the most famous works is “End Game” by Nay Ye Khant, Adjustor, Yung Hugo, GRACEe, D-Vision, Young Yair and EilliE. The work currently has more than 200,000 views on YouTube. The song depicts the current persecution of Myanmar’s dictatorship – the country’s third stage of military rule since its independence from Britain in 1948 – as a war for freedom and democracy. .

Coda Story expressed appreciation for this form of calling. Because, for many years, hip-hop rap has been at the forefront of rallies around the globe. In the US, “Black Lives Matter” has called on dozens of MCs, including Run The Jewels, Meek Mill and Ty Dolla Sign, to release songs highlighting police brutality, racism and inequality. .

In another development, British rappers responded to the knife crime crisis in their own country. Artists in Hong Kong have expressed their support for the pro-democracy movement.

Dr. Jane M. Ferguson, a professor of Southeast Asian history and anthropology at Australian National University in Canberra believes that the pervasiveness of anti-coup rap plays an important role in the protest movement. of Myanmar.

“It offers a creative and fun package that captures the audience’s attention, but it can also ignite support over generations,” she explains.

Not only music, graffiti artist Si Thu Aung, from Mandalay, has been diligently painting walls in towns and cities for the past six weeks. “We have no weapons, we only have art, so we will revolt with our art, until people know our voice all over the world,” said Si Thu Aung. with Coda Story.

Khin Myat Myat Naing, a travel blogger with more than 750,000 wanted followers, said authorities were worried about posts supporting the overturned civilian government. “I will run and do my best for those who have been arrested,” Khin Myat Myat Naing stated on his personal page.
