The Pentagon statement emphasized: “Defense Minister Lloyd Austin this morning discussed with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto to express concerns about the disappearance of the Indonesian submarine KRI Nanggala 402 as well as the fragile division of the 53 crew members on board. ” The Pentagon also noted that the two sides had discussed the recent deployment of the P-8 Poseidon to aid the search. Minister Austin has proposed to increase support, possibly including the provision of underwater search assets, for this effort.
