LTS: Working at the first newspaper to charge readers in Vietnam, journalist Tran Tien Duan, Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus e-newspaper said that charging readers is a trend of the world’s press. To collect fees effectively, newsrooms must orient the production of content for paying readers that specialize in specific areas and must make a worthy investment to improve the quality of articles. Big, hot issues are at the forefront. VietNamNet would like to introduce the following article of Mr. For online newspapers, revenue is mainly from advertising and media contracts. However, now, there is a big shift when businesses choose advertising media through social media more instead of advertising on electronic newspapers. The transformation of advertising methods and the reduction of revenue is a really challenging economic problem for newspaper leaders. E-newspapers want to survive and develop, they need to find new forms of journalism economy, in which fee collection can be a solution for electronic newspapers in Vietnam. Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus Online Newspaper Tran Tien Duan Fee collection at VietnamPlus e-Newspaper There are many newspapers in the world such as Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post (USA), Financial Times, The Economist (UK), Svenska Dagbladet and Aftonbladet New Media (Sweden), Folha de São Paulo (Brazil). .. had early success with the digital-based fee model, before the growth of online advertising revenue slowed down and even declined in recent years. In addition, a harsh reality that has emerged in recent years is that up to 75-80% of digital advertising revenue flows into the pockets of two giants Google and Facebook. Because of that, newspapers found that they could no longer depend on advertising revenue, so charging readers really became a trend of the world press. On June 20, 2018, VNA’s online newspaper VietnamPlus became the first and only Vietnamese press agency to collect fees for reading content on digital platforms. Every day, VietnamPlus only distributes about 5-10 fee-based articles, including in-depth analysis articles, exclusive interviews, etc., produced by the newsroom itself, or translated under the franchise of major press units. In the world. Because the quantity of news sold is small, it does not affect the provision of essential information to serve readers and still ensures the principles and orientation of the VNA. VietnamPlus is the national foreign affairs electronic newspaper under the VNA. Therefore, the newspaper has many advantages due to the information system of the VNA and from 90 resident agencies at home and abroad. Therefore, VietnamPlus has more advantages when it comes to building specialized and in-depth content for its premium products, creating “commodity” products of high value and use value. Target a wide audience willing to pay to own that unique article or news. Interface of fee collection page of VietnamPlus newspaper The content that VietnamPlus has been collecting fees for focuses on 4 main areas: Politics – society, world, economy – technology and culture – sport. These articles are analyzed from multiple perspectives, and more importantly, have a lot of exclusive information because they are provided quickly, timely, and attractively by resident correspondents abroad. public interest. Regarding access organization, while The Straits Times and other fee-based online newspapers often put both paid and free content on the same website, Vietnam Plus separates the fee to https: //pay.vietnamplus.vn and free at https://vietnamplus.vn. This is to avoid offending readers who are not used to paying for e-newspapers, but will also affect the ability to cross-promote for subscriptions. In the near future, the newsroom is also planning to change it to allow partial reading, creating an incentive for users to be willing to pay. Taking the first step on a new path, VietnamPlus e-newspaper has constantly learned from the electronic newspaper fee models in the world, researched the information needs of domestic readers to build and develop this model. in your own newspaper. Currently, VietnamPlus uses many strategies to achieve its goals: Periodical newsletters, information on specific topics (politics, economics, culture, science) to attract subscribers to target each audience. customers and targeting each specific customer group on Facebook, Google does not use advertising to bring its posted content to potential new customers. Vietnamplus aims to continue to produce high-quality, long-form content such as mega-story, long-form, and not only restrict the content to economic, financial, strategic, and business secrets, but also open it up. other fields such as technology, sports, entertainment, politics, new trends, forecast information… and collect fees from these articles. Some problems raised in electronic newspaper fee collection In the economic activities of journalism, in order to collect fees effectively, newsrooms must orient the production of content for paying readers to specialize in specific areas and must make worthy investments to improve the quality. posts. Big, hot issues come first, otherwise there would be no reason to convince people to subscribe. Because the readers who can afford to pay are often businesses, researchers, press agencies, people with high income and qualifications, they need information from experts, managers, comment on a topics that are important to them. A newsletter from the VietnamPlus e-newspaper Through polling and surveying the groups and individuals that buy information from VietnamPlus, they found that the news sold has a high content of information, going deep into a field or issue that public opinion and society are interested in. Such news they accept to pay for the source of information they are using. Through this, VietnamPlus also determined, selling news must focus on readers, must find a way to determine what their readers need. Readers will spend money when they really believe that they have valuable, quality sources. And the question is: how can we create many “goods” that are attractive enough to users, making them “pickpocket” to pay? Payers buy high-quality content, not cheap. Readers pay for content because it helps them stay informed and post about issues they care about. And readers appreciate the exclusive content they have access to more than ancillary benefits like promotional giveaways when they sign up. Paid readers send a clear signal that news outlets that want growth cannot cut costs. Acquiring a paid audience requires an investment in high-quality content and a focus on meeting the needs of the audience. It is not easy to convince readers to pay when they are used to free information, so VietnamPlus’s pioneering in this field is also to help readers get used to reading paid newspapers. money. Must-know content turns free readers into paying readers. Informative, insightful, specialized content motivates readers to withdraw, which is the key to retaining readers. It is also about turning the habits of readers into our habits, understandable that when readers accept to pay for an information, it means that it is the act of paying for their own habits. Therefore, VietnamPlus e-newspaper also focuses on the habits of its readers. Habits are the best way to increase engagement. In addition, a difficulty in selling news is due to technology limitations. When it was newly built to collect fees, VietnamPlus’s method was still limited to only using mobile phones from a network operator. Currently, payment gateways have been expanded, allowing a variety of other payment methods such as bank cards, e-wallets, QR codes… VietnamPlus is planning to upgrade the payment system. Moreover, the fact that copyright in Vietnam has been a difficult problem to solve for many years. A good article just published in a certain newspaper will immediately be copied in its entirety. If a newspaper has a lock on its special articles and only provides them to paying readers, it is also difficult, because a website that aggregates information only needs to spend a little money to read and ” collage”, then this information will no longer be “poisonous”. Because of these reasons, it is understandable that the trend of charging readers to read e-newspapers in Vietnam is prone to failure right from the start. Collecting money from online readers in Vietnam is very difficult nowadays, but if they want to change the revenue structure, press agencies have to start working. The most important thing is to protect copyright, not to let a good article be cut and pasted by dozens of other websites on your site comfortably. The locking of articles and invitations to buy online newspapers need to be carried out simultaneously in many newspapers to create a positive effect. In 2019, Vietnam’s online advertising revenue was estimated at 648 million USD, of which Facebook accounted for 275 million USD, Google 174.9 million USD, domestic units accounted for only 180.9 million USD.

After its promulgation, Decree 38 received the attention of the public, including the press and media agencies, about a number of regulations on sanctioning administrative violations on advertising on electronic newspapers. Specifically, Clause 2, Article 38 stipulates: A fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 15,000,000 shall be imposed for one of the following acts: a) It is not designed so that readers can actively turn on or off the advertisement. in a fixed area; b) The waiting time to turn on or off the advertisement not in a fixed area exceeds 1.5 seconds; c) Design and arrange the advertising part mixed with the news and article content.
Decree 38/2021/ND-CP dated March 29, 2021 of the Government regulating the sanctioning of administrative violations in the field of culture and advertising (Decree 38) takes effect from June 1, 2021.

Some online newspapers and media agencies think that the regulation of the time to turn on and off ads not in a fixed area of the online newspaper within 1.5 seconds is too fast, which will affect the advertising effectiveness. , reducing revenue, affecting the press economy and the development of electronic newspapers in the context of digital technology, especially when newspapers and businesses are facing many difficulties in financial autonomy due to the epidemic. like nowadays. Meanwhile, cross-border social networks and digital platforms are occupying an overwhelming market share in the advertising field such as Google, Facebook or Youtube… due to a simpler and more convenient mechanism than electronic newspapers because they are not regulated. by this provision. Therefore, it will inadvertently push the same ad units to redirect to cross-border ad networks. It should be affirmed that the activities of posting and broadcasting advertisements in the press must comply with the provisions of the Press Law and the provisions of the law on advertising. The purpose of Decree 38 is to protect readers and viewers from the current state of rampant and difficult-to-control advertising on electronic newspapers. Decree 38 does not restrict advertising activities of electronic newspapers, but stipulates that advertising needs to meet two requirements of viewers: One is that there is a key to turn it off (on), second, if there is an operation to turn it off (on), must respond immediately within 1.5 seconds, avoiding the case that readers have to watch ads that are forced, inhibiting, unable to fully and continuously receive information sources. This content is specified in Clause 1, Article 23 of the Law on Advertising 2012; and the sanctioning of violations is also available in Clause 3, Article 55, Decree No. 158/2013/ND-CP of the Government on sanctioning of administrative violations in the fields of culture, sports, tourism and advertising . It can be seen that the regulations on handling of violations mentioned above are not new to Decree 38, but have been implemented since 2013. Objects, acts and sanctioning levels in the two decrees are the same and suitable. accordance with the provisions of the Law on Advertising. Thus, the implementation of Decree 38 in the current context will not affect the revenue of electronic newspapers. Newspapers in general and electronic newspapers in particular are essential information channels, operating under the Press Law. For each type of press, there are separate regulations on advertising. Social networking platforms, Youtube channels, etc. have different operational purposes and interactive objects, so it is not possible to rigidly apply regulations on advertising on social networks like newspapers. However, in the trend of digital transformation of newspapers, electronic newspapers are dominating thanks to the popularity of the internet and mobile devices. Advertising on electronic newspapers is effective due to its fast and wide coverage. Activities of digital media are also changing day by day. Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism needs to coordinate with the Ministry of Information and Communications in researching, amending and supplementing the contents of advertising activities in the press, coordinating with relevant ministries and branches to regulate the advertising activities in the press. adjust and complete the legal framework for advertising activities in accordance with reality; suitable to the needs, psychology and tastes of modern readers as well as complying with the law, cultural and ethical standards of society. That necessary adjustment will also contribute to promoting fair and legal business activities of enterprises as well as healthy economic activities of press agencies. It is known that the Ministry of Information and Communications will review the provisions of Decree 38, including the content of advertising on social networks and cross-border digital platforms, inspect, check and promptly handle the time of violations of the law on advertising, propose amendments in line with the current development trend, creating fairness in press and communication activities.

A small bookstore located in an old house in Huzhou city (Zhejiang, China) allows readers to scan a QR code to listen to book introductions, as well as check for updates.
Customers can scan the QR code on their phone or tablet to listen to any excerpt of the book, before deciding to buy.

According to the site’s analysis Dosdoce , putting this method into pilot at bookstores not only opens up a “trick” to attract readers, but also contributes to increasing book sales. After listening to an excerpt, if interested, readers can buy the book right there. Especially, for those who “love” audiobooks, this is the bridge that “pulls” them to experience with the latest audiobooks. That also increases the number of potential bookstore customers. With a phone or tablet, readers can scan QR codes to listen to books. Photo: Sznews.com With this new method, the approach to books becomes more relevant to modern life. Customers who come here only need to select the publication they want to listen to. The headset will be made available after scanning the code. In case you want to listen to that publication the next time you come back, you just need to scan the QR code directly on your phone or tablet (the system will break the paragraph and display the QR code for you to save for your return). next). Readers can listen to the audio version and browse the book at the same time. Photo: Sznews.com Another advantage is that customers can listen to and browse through the actual bookstores, or online books, ebooks. This is a combination form (scan the code – listen to the book – buy the book) that pulls readers to the bookstore. This once again shows that the support of electronic devices is an effective bridge in attracting book lovers. Above all, using QR codes to listen to books helps promote new publications, promote reading culture during the epidemic season, in the context of China where the outbreak of Covid-19 with many peaks.

The emergence of zoonotic diseases – pathogens that reach us from other species – is nothing new but is on the rise, and Quammen seeks to find the reasons behind this phenomenon. the same image in the final chapter of the book: the huge human population, along with the enormous amount of livestock, the destruction of natural habitats, the disrupted ecosystems – things that are absolutely possible. can turn into a debate about nature’s revenge on humanity. Immune system – Discover the body’s self-healing mechanism: In the book Immune system , leading immunologist Daniel M.Davis has likened that, studying the immune system in the human body is like studying the stars and galaxies in our universe. The author gives us an overview of the big picture of the immune system, along with stories about the journey to discover pieces of that picture. The book is divided into two parts. The first part explains the basic concepts of resistance, and tells the journey to explore the cells and complex mechanisms in the immune system. The second part discusses modern research on how different agents affect our immune system. Diagnosis of Covid-19 with Eastern and Western medicine: The book gives readers a first-hand view of the disease by approaching the disease from many aspects, including: clinical features, incubation and disease mechanisms, source and mode of transmission, criteria and diagnostic procedures. diagnosis and progression of the disease worldwide. According to the two authors, the highlight of Western medicine is the treatment with antiviral drugs and antibiotics, immunotherapy drugs, drugs that modulate the intestinal ecosystem, the use of plasma from already healthy patients, the application of Continuous extra-renal dialysis… However, the book also highlights the advantages of Oriental medicine in the way of prevention, diagnosis and recovery, based on the author’s practical experience when working in field hospitals and other medical institutions. Clinical research on oriental medicine. From detailed advice on living habits, herbal remedies combined with acupressure or acupuncture to gentle exercises, all of which help “prevent disease even when there is no disease, support qi to ward off disease”. Guns, Germs and Steel – The Destiny of Human Societies : The work won the Pulitzer Prize. This is a classic book about 13,000 years of human development. The book explains how Eurasian civilizations (including North Africa) survived and conquered other civilizations, while disproving theories of the domination of other civilizations. Eurasian civilization was based on intellectual, moral or genetic superiority. Jared Diamond argues that differences in power and technology between human societies are rooted in environmental differences, in which this difference is magnified. Thereby, he explains why Western Europe, not other civilizations in the Eurasian world like China, became the dominant forces. Although this book is ultimately about history and prehistory, its subject matter is not only of academic value but also of great practical and political importance. The history of interactions between different peoples is what has shaped the modern world through conquest, infectious disease, and genocide. Those conflicts produced lasting effects that, after centuries, are still actively ongoing in some of the world’s most problematic regions today.

After nearly a month of organization, Best Choice Award 2021 has selected 4 worthy names as the most favorite technology devices by readers in the first half of 2021.

Best Choice Award 2021 is an award given by Zing launched, wishing to find excellent and worth buying technology products of the year in each category. The award not only honors outstanding products in recent years, the Best Choice Award is also a prestigious list for users to refer to before choosing to buy. In line with the development trend of technology in life, this year’s awards include 4 categories: Air conditioners, Smartphones, Washing machines, and Headphones. Each category includes 5 prestigious nominations from many different brands. The award results are decided by the vote of the readers. With more than 43.67% votes from readers, the air conditioner model from a Japanese technology company has surpassed 4 other nominations including Daikin Inverter 1 HP FTKA25VMVMV (24.93%), LG Inverter 2.5 HP V24ENF1 ( 19.14%, Samsung WindFree PM1.0 (9.77%) and Gree Multi XS (2.49%). Compared to competitors, Sharp AIoT AH-XP13YHW is more outstanding by balancing many factors such as simple and compact design, protecting user health, saving power and a series of smart features. The feature of this model comes from Plasmacluster ion technology. This is Sharp’s proprietary germicidal technology, introduced in 2001 in Japan. Accordingly, Plasmacluster works on the mechanism of dispersing positive and negative ions into the air. The highly oxidizing OH radical ions will adhere to the surface of molds and bacteria. They will break down the protein structure by removing the H atom on the surface of the protein structure. The radical (OH) will combine with (H) to form water (H2O) in the air. This technology of Sharp is certified to kill 99% of bacteria, remove 99.9% of the H5N1 virus in the air environment. In September 2020, Plasmacluster technology was certified to reduce the infectious titre of the SARS-CoV-2 virus by 91.3%. This is one of the best health protection technologies for users on the market. Besides, this air conditioner model can connect to smartphones through the Sharp Air application. Users can easily turn on, off, and switch the modes of the air conditioner with their smartphone. In addition, the application also displays the air quality, current power consumption and statistical graph of the whole month. With 47.23% of the votes, Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G won overwhelmingly in the best smartphone category in the first half of 2021. This is understandable because the device is equipped with a large screen, powerful configuration, camera. quality, meeting a variety of user needs from entertainment to work. This is the smartphone with the largest screen on the market. Accordingly, the device uses a 6.8-inch screen, Quad HD + resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate. This model offers good visibility, vibrant colors and high brightness. The screen part of the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is flattened instead of 3D curved like on previous versions. According to a survey of the site Gizmochina In February 2020, 71.7% of people said that they prefer to use a flat screen and only 28.3% of people want to use a curved screen. Many people think that the curved screen makes swiping more comfortable. However, the disadvantage of curved screen models comes from being easily broken when dropped. The cost to repair or replace the curved screen is also more expensive than the flat screen. The configuration of the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is in the top today with Exynos 2100 chip, 12 GB RAM, 128 GB internal memory and a 5,000 mAh battery. The device is equipped with a main camera with a resolution of up to 108 MP, 8K video recording, 10X optical zoom and 100X Space Zoom feature, providing quality images, meeting many different photography needs of users. Razer BlackShark V2 scores thanks to its minimalist design that is different from most gaming headsets on the market. The headband of the headset has a jet black color, a plastic case, a thin frame, and a prominent neon green “three-headed snake” logo. This design of Razer brings better versatility to the product. This means that users can use the headset for many different purposes and spaces such as playing games, listening to music in the park, office or on the street. The headphones have a frequency range of 12 Hz-28 kHz, which is wide enough to reproduce most of the sound details. Besides, the sound quality of the model is not interfered with by technology too much, so it ensures the accuracy for gamers. The bass of the device ensures power, the middle range is moderate. Meanwhile, the treble part of the Razer BlackShark V2 is clear and slightly tweaked to reduce the jarring feeling. Razer BlackShark V2 is an attractive headset model with a price of 2.7 million VND. This model is aimed at users who need to find a headset that can be used on many platforms, has a removable microphone, neutral design, comfortable wearing feeling, honest sound quality and quite good sound insulation. Appearing in Vietnam market in April 2021, Samsung AI Inverter WD14TP44DSB/SV quickly gained the attention of many users. Accordingly, Samsung’s washing machine was voted the most by readers with 40.48%. This model shows that Samsung has seriously developed the washing machine industry, helping to improve the user experience. This is no longer an ordinary washing machine that makes friends and understands all the needs of the user. This model owns 4 sensors to help identify the weight and soiling of clothes. From there, the machine optimizes the amount of water, washing water, rinse and time for the user. In addition, this model has an AI Control panel that can automatically remember, analyze and recommend the appropriate washing mode. Users can control the washing machine with their smartphone through the SmartThings app. Not only smart, Samsung washing machines also ensure quality, help clean clothes and remove bacteria. Accordingly, Samsung AI Inverter WD14TP44DSB/SV has Hygiene Steam technology, which removes 99.9% of bacteria and allergens by activating high-temperature steam blowing into the entire surface and deep inside each fabric gap.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused many publishers to reduce the number of books they buy copyrighted, and also pay more attention to readers’ reading trends.
Buying and selling book rights with foreign partners can be considered as one of the first steps in publishing a translated book in Vietnam. In the context of the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic, the exchange of buying and selling transactions has been largely affected and interrupted.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc – Director of First News Tri Viet book company, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Minh – Director of planning and copyright of Nha Nam book company and Mr. Tran Dang Tu – Copyright employee of Kim Dong Publishing House will share with readers difficulties, challenges and opportunities in buying and selling book rights when the pandemic is changing the world. Convert form from offline to online For book rights trading, the biggest difference when the Covid-19 epidemic took place, according to all three representatives, was that major copyright book fairs in the world were canceled. The London Book Fair in March, the Bologna Book Fair in April or Frankfurt in October… are all major book fairs in the world, where publishers meet and directly introduce outstanding and potential books. big. The world’s major copyright book fairs have all been canceled or changed their organizational plans, switching to online form because of the epidemic. Photo: Reedexhibitions. Especially for children’s books with many beautiful illustrations, which is the strength of Kim Dong Publishing House, is a series of books “very suitable for display at book fairs, now losing the opportunity to attract attention”. Mr. Tran Dang Tu shared. The alternative to the book club is online meetings through online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Team or Google Meets… However, having online meetings with partners who have to work remotely is not always comfortable, from poor connection to difficult search, lack of information, lack of sample books. And instead of meeting partners in just 2-3 days like in traditional fairs, the meetings often span a whole month, and due to the time difference, the appointment is convenient for both. side is not an easy thing either. Amid such difficulties, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Minh said that online exchanges with partners also allow the two sides more time to introduce and negotiate, instead of meeting only 30 minutes like meetings. market. But meeting face-to-face, shaking hands, touching books, enjoying the book-filled atmosphere is still something that copyright professionals really want to experience in the future, just like before. here used to be. Another bright point of online transactions is that “electronic contract signing” is legalized, which replaces direct signatures and must be delivered to the partner’s offices. “This way of e-signing saves costs and time, minimizes risks and conveniently stores data,” said Mr. Tran Dang Tu. In the context of the pandemic and having to work online, there are many shortcomings, but the book company First News still brings back many books of great value, including the autobiography. The Promised Land by former US President Barack Obama, a book about the life of artist Chow Yun Fat, signed a contract to buy book rights with actor representative Keanu Reeves… “The pandemic is a time to prove the dynamism of the copyright team, who can contact and negotiate and buy good titles about Vietnam in any situation,” concluded Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc bought the copyright to a book about the French President at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Photo: FBNV. Observe the reading taste of readers, be careful when choosing new books When the Covid-19 epidemic took place, publishing units in general reduced the number of new books to some extent, so the consideration and selection of titles will be conducted more carefully. The copyright department of the units carefully observes the reading trends of the readers so that they can bring back many titles that are suitable for the tastes of the country. Representatives of three publishing units have different opinions about readers’ reading taste. According to Mr. Tran Dang Tu’s observation, readers tend to change their reading forms, shifting more to e-books (ebooks) and audiobooks (audiobooks). This is completely natural because these types of books are both cheaper than paper books, easy to buy and suitable for conditions requiring social distancing due to the epidemic. However, buying copyrights for e-books and audiobooks in Vietnam still faces many difficulties, because foreign partners do not really trust the Vietnamese market when there is a situation of pirated books illegally posted online. . However, Mr. Tran Dang Tu still hopes that ebooks and audiobooks will capture the market share of future readers to match the technology trend. Next, in recent times, the phenomenon of classic books, books of old authors… are strongly consumed. This is thought to stem from the anxiety that causes many readers to read books they already believe in, or recommend old and good books to others rather than risk new books. Or because the economy is difficult and forced to stay at home, many people take advantage of reading all the old books they have bought, instead of buying new books. But broadly in the world market, new books are still respected and released by publishers. Books in the highly entertaining genre are still well received. For example, Japanese manga in the North American market received huge growth with more than 35% sales growth, many manga books also entered the top sellers with high rankings. This is a good sign for Kim Dong Publishing House to continue to exploit relevant and interesting books about Vietnam. In 2022, Kim Dong Publishing House will celebrate its 65th anniversary, which is the time to release many large, massive and unique books on this occasion. That pushes the copyright department to explore special works even more. Ebooks and audiobooks are considered a new trend of readers during the epidemic. Photo: Deloitte. On the side of First News, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc found that during the pandemic, readers were more interested in self-understanding books, spiritual books, and books that enhance their own inner strength. That’s part of the reason the work Eternal life by Professor John Vu – Nguyen Phong published by First News became the publishing phenomenon of 2020. Episode 2 of Eternal life recently released is also well received by readers, and First News is expected to release volume 3 in the near future. Other books on the subject of Osho’s meditation or books on health and self-care have also received more attention during the pandemic. Nguyen Xuan Minh, representative of Nha Nam, is more interested in readers’ reading taste when the epidemic has passed. Because publishing a book in Vietnam takes time to implement, making the book lag behind the general trend. As a unit specializing in publishing literary books, Nha Nam focuses on the world’s valuable literary titles. In addition, this publishing unit also searches and exploits quality manuscripts from domestic authors, both contributing to the development of the country’s literature and ensuring objective factors such as translation. disease has the smallest impact on publishing.

According to Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of World Publishing House, publishing books online in the middle of the pandemic is a big challenge for foreign language book makers.
While Vietnamese book-making units are gradually finding a direction during the epidemic season through promoting online publishing, the path of foreign-language publishers is still quite narrow.

The difficulty of foreign-language and bilingual bookmakers lies in “hunting” readers, because so far the number of readers is mainly foreigners. The pandemic has also made it difficult to transport orders over long distances. Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of World Publishing House, explained that the online book publishing story did not create a breakthrough for his unit during the epidemic season. Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of World Publishing House. Photo: Tran Long. The bookstore is no longer crowded – The pandemic has caused delays in many industries, including publishing. In the middle of the epidemic season, do you think that limiting contact will help publish books online with many advantages? Publishing books online during the epidemic season always has two sides: advantages and challenges. The outbreak makes people have more time to stay at home with their families. It is considered an advantage for people to have more time to relieve stress. If you want to connect with the outside world, you can use the Internet or read books and newspapers. On the other hand, during the epidemic, it must be acknowledged that the people’s priority item is necessities. Therefore, financial funds in the family must be considered when spending for entertainment purposes. That’s why I say the book release during the pandemic has two sides. Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of World Publishing House, shared the difficulties his unit is facing during the epidemic season. Do you think this will overwhelm the development of bookstores? We are facing the fourth technical revolution, electronic devices are becoming more and more popular. Most people have access to online information. I myself am from the generation that loves to read entity books. I like going to book streets, bookstores or going to book exhibitions as a reader. But recently, the bookstores are no longer crowded, maybe only the appearance of nostalgic people still retain the elegant pleasure of reading. Another fact is that as the population increases, the storage space for books in a family will be narrower, leading to the tendency to read more books online. However, I don’t think online books will completely overwhelm physical bookstores because nowadays there are still many readers who like to hold the book directly in their hands, feel its beauty before deciding to buy. Publishing books online, should or not? – Through participating on the book365.vn floor, how did the World Publishing House get results? Besides, through which pages does your unit promote books? With the participation on the book365.vn floor, we set the goal of promoting the brand of our unit; and at the same time introduce foreign language books and newspapers on the copyright exchange with European-American partners, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asian countries. The peculiarity of foreign-language books makes it impossible to promote on Vietnamese pages and reading groups. Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of World Publishing House Through this, we have sold book rights to a number of partners, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam to the world. However, the number of books sold on the floor was also not very positive. The characteristics of the books of the World Publishing House make it impossible to promote on Vietnamese pages and reading groups. In addition to participating on the book365.vn floor, we only introduce books on Tiki and the official website of the publisher. – Many units are “covering losses” by promoting online publishing. Why doesn’t your unit follow that trend? Online book publishing is actually a trend in digital transformation. This is a requirement of the times and we cannot go against the times. World Publishing House was also forced to transform itself to catch up with this revolution. This is a great opportunity, saving a lot of costs and stages. However, publishing books online for a foreign-language and bilingual book-making unit is always more difficult than for Vietnamese online book-making units. Not to mention online publishing, it is necessary to invest in a certain infrastructure, and at the same time, our unit must also take into account issues of copyright, information security, payment, and database. .. To break through right away is very difficult, it must be a process and requires investment in both material and human resources. Publications of World Publishing House are mainly foreign languages and bilinguals. Photo: World Publishing House. What challenges are foreign book writers facing? – When the audience is mainly foreigners, what difficulties do you face in transporting and delivering books to readers during the epidemic season? The whole world is struggling against the Covid-19 pandemic, transporting books is facing many difficulties. About a few months ago, when an epidemic broke out, an American customer ordered 10 of our books for work. Due to the pandemic, the time to send books took a long time. The other reader kept emailing us, expressing his desire to receive the book soon. In the end, he did not have the patience to wait and said that the delayed delivery had missed his plan. He decided to cancel the order. When we contacted the Vietnamese post office, they confirmed that they had shipped the order to the US, but due to Covid-19, it was congested at the port. Then we had to return the money to the other customer and lose the books. Some time later, the books in the jammed port area were delivered to the buyers. Receiving the book, although not timely, was also very emotional. He wrote a letter to us expressing his sympathy for the difficulties faced by the foreign language book-making unit in the context of the epidemic. – The “hunting” of readers is certainly difficult, sir? How is World Publishing House oriented to overcome that difficulty? Our first difficulty must be mentioned is the small number of visitors, “hunting” readers during the epidemic season is really difficult because for nearly two years foreign visitors have not been able to enter, the number of books sold to this audience has decreased sharply . From left to right: Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Mrs. Diana Dudzik (author of two books A and V published by World Publishing House) and her husband Diana. Photo: Tran Long. Secondly, it must also be mentioned that our reading culture has been reduced when facing foreign and bilingual books due to the strong competition of the mass media. The third difficulty, as I said, is the shipping and payment for foreign readers. Currently, we focus on releasing more titles in Vietnamese because from last year to this year, the number of books published in Vietnamese has remained somewhat stable. Besides, promoting cooperation with foreign book-making partners. This is a very important orientation. However, due to the pandemic, all negotiations and contract signings have stalled. – So is it a challenge to associate with foreign units, translate and publish books online during the epidemic season? In my opinion this is a challenge. However, we have to thank some foreign partners because they still pay special attention to us, such as Korea and some Southeast Asian countries. The number of readers is small, the culture of reading books in foreign languages is reduced, and transportation during the epidemic season is hindered are the difficulties that we are facing. Dr. Tran Doan Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of World Publishing House Or as recently, the Venezuelan ambassador had a meeting with us. She asked permission from World Publishing House to translate some publications into Spanish. During the meeting, she also shared that Venezuela is about to host an international book fair, so she is very interested in the fact that there will be publications translated from Vietnamese into Spanish. Or vice versa, Korean publishing companies also regularly work with us to translate some works from them into Vietnamese to promote Korean tourism. But it must also be added that the pandemic makes it impossible for regular meetings to take place in person, but must be done online. Online transactions are still in the early stages, not our familiar ways and methods of working, so there are many difficulties, it takes time to get used to.

Vietnamese version of the comic series “Sapiens – History of humanity” has just been released by Omega + Book Company to Vietnamese readers. The booklet includes full-color illustrations and easy-to-understand text making the content of the work more appealing for readers of all ages, especially children 13 years and older. It is expected that the book includes 4 volumes based on 4 main parts of the original work. Episode 2 is also expected to premiere around the world this year.

Renowned French comic artist David Vandermeulen and Belgian screenwriter Daniel Casanave were the first to come up with the idea for the series, so they teamed up with Harari to create a series of graphic comics. . Author Yuval Noah Harari said: “Their creative talent allowed the three of us to tell human history from a whole new perspective – without them I wouldn’t have been able to. Their humor and intelligence have made the book a truly enjoyable experience ”. The trend of graphicizing books is favored by many readers In the series, Harari plays a narrator, along with her niece named Zoe. He tells stories, guides, and explains Zoe’s questions through the intricate pages of evolution and his theories about how an ape living on a secluded steppe has grown to be a species. dominate the globe. At the same time, he brought Zoe to meet real characters such as scientist professor Saraswati – biologist, professor Robin Dunbar – anthropologist, expert on human communication to bogus characters. Dr. fiction, Detective Lopez … to explain more thoroughly the evolution and development of our species. “Sapiens – human history” (text version) has more than 10 million readers and has been translated into 50 different languages. And Sapiens comic version has now been translated and released in more than 35 countries around the world. Harari also argues that it is imperative to pass the book’s message to more readers because we are living in a global era, you need to understand the big picture of history in order to really understand. my life. Also according to the author, most of the educational apparatus only teaches the history of the country, its own religion and culture. “I spent 12 years in school in Israel and never heard anything about Chinese history or what happened before Judaism. I never took a class that teaches about the agricultural revolution. So everyone needs to see the big picture and Sapiens can provide it in an interesting and accessible way ”- says author Harari. Volume one of the series focuses on the formation of the human race that dominates the Earth today, including 4 parts. Part 1 – The rebels on the grassland: the human race was originally just an ordinary animal like any other, and there have been many different human species in the evolutionary process. Part 2 – Fictional Masters: 70,000 years ago, Sapiens had a Cognitive Revolution. Humankind has left artificial works and achievements thanks to the cooperation on a large scale, through language communication and information exchange. Part 3 – Sex, lying and cave painting: tells about people’s life after the Cognitive Revolution and before the agricultural revolution. Sapiens groups are very different in social structure, family, and religious beliefs. Part 4 – Intercontinental killers: in the process of spreading across the globe, humans have caused many ecological disasters, making many native animals extinct. The author has raised a fictitious trial of the Sapiens species for this crime, and all humans share the common responsibility.

In the current context, many publishers have identified digital transformation as an important step towards promoting reading culture.
According to data from the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam has only 30% of people read books regularly, 26% do not read books and 44% only occasionally read books. However, we have up to 70% of people using the Internet, in the top of the world. Facing this shortcoming, in the framework of the National Online Book Association in 2021, there was a seminar on “Reading culture in digital transformation trend” to discuss solutions to promote reading culture before the digital transformation trend. 4.0.

Digital library Until now, when referring to the library, people often think of the rooms filled with books and paper documents. But the digital transformation trend is gradually changing the way traditional libraries operate, opening a new era in which paper books no longer have a unique position. That method is electronic library, also known as digital library. Digital library is one of the solutions to promote reading culture In the past, documents and paper books in the library often did not have a long lifespan due to complicated preservation process and many difficulties. Each book has been used many times, as well as the negative impacts from the environment such as mold, insects, … On the other hand, some school units still have difficulty, so traditional libraries are only capable There are enough books for a certain number of students. The emergence of the digital library form is gradually solving the problems of traditional libraries. Specifically, the seminar on reading culture in the digital transformation period taking place on April 19 in Ho Chi Minh City mentioned the advantages of e-libraries in stimulating the reading habits of subjects. students and students of all levels. “Thanks to the electronic library, reading can now take place anywhere,” said Mr. Ibadulla Yoldas – vice principal of Horizon International School. It is not necessary to go to school to read books, students can read books at home ”. According to Mr. Yoldas: “Digital library is the solution, an idea for schools to apply in teaching and learning”. Audiobooks The digital transformation process in Vietnam is forming a new habit for modern readers – the habit of “listening to books”. This is said to be the result of real needs of modern young people who do not have much time but still want to cultivate their knowledge. In fact, many hours a day are wasted. It could be traffic jam, waiting for the plane, or even while doing housework … Instead of accepting lost time and feeling bored, many people have used audiobooks as a “countermeasure” solution. dealing with busy life. The seminar “Reading culture in digital transformation” took place at the opening ceremony of Vietnam Book Day 2021 mentioned the trend of “listening to books”. Currently, many Vietnamese audiobooks are constantly improving product quality to bring the best experience to readers. One of them is the application of artificial intelligence to create a reading voice suitable for each type of book. Also during the seminar on Reading Culture, Mr. Le Hoang Thach, Co-Founder of Voiz FM, shared: “In a recent test of the company with 800 customers. Up to 70% of them could not distinguish the artificial voice from books and real human voices ”. According to ICT Vietnam, our country is similar to the international audiobook market in general and the US market in particular in terms of the structure of listeners. Specifically, they are young, employed and educated clients. These subjects tend to spend a large amount of time using the Internet, using mobile devices to receive information. This can be considered as a prerequisite for the application of digital technology, developing audiobooks and forming Vietnamese books’ listening habits. Create reading habits for children With the attraction of programs on Youtube or games on technology applications, children are not currently able to form a habit of reading. This forces families and schools to have strategies for children to adapt to the reading culture. Instead of the time for children to watch entertainment programs, parents should join their children to access online reading applications, read interactive books with their children … At the same time, it is necessary to give children a reading space. New books, stimulate children to find books and help children feel comfortable reading. Online books with interactive programs are a solution to help form reading habits for children Talking about the issue of forming reading habits for children, Mr. Nguyen Nguyen – Director of the Publishing Department emphasized: The habit of reading books for children must originate from families and schools. It is necessary for the children to have space to read books, time to read books, and then form the reading habits so that they love books. And Mr. Nguyen Nguyen also affirmed: “Publishing capacity in Vietnam is not weak, but the reading culture is not high. Digital transformation will help narrow that gap and stimulate reading culture ”./.

According to the goals of the Ministry of Public Security, as of July 1, 2021, nearly half of the Vietnamese population will use chip-mounted Citizen Identification Card, replacing ID card or Barcode Citizen ID.

Fingerprinting for people at the Go Vap District Police. Photo: Thanh Chung – VNA What information does the chip-mounted citizen ID contain? The biggest difference of chip-mounted Citizen Identification compared to other types of identification such as Identity Card or Barcode Citizen Identification is the chip located on the back of the card. The chip contains information about the identity of each citizen, such as: Full name; date of birth; home town; fingerprint, retina, image, identification features … At the same time, in the near future, the chip on the citizen’s ID card also contains information related to insurance, banking, driver’s license … of the user. use. In addition to the chip, the new model Citizen ID card also has a QR code on the front of the card. When scanning this code will display information about the name of the issuer, the old ID number (In the case where the 9-digit ID card was used), the issuer will no longer have to bring it The identity card number of the identity card with A4 paper is very easily crumpled as it is nowadays. Is losing a citizen’s ID with a chip “dangerous”? As mentioned above, the citizen’s ID with chip shows a lot of personal information of the grantee, and also integrates many other specialized information about insurance, banking … Therefore, many people expressed worry that if you accidentally lose this ID card, or have your card stolen, will your personal information be easily leaked out … In fact, only authorities are equipped with specialized chip readers to extract information. Therefore, people can be completely assured that, if the identity of the chip-mounted citizen is lost, the person who finds it is difficult to read the information of the lost person that the chip on the card is keeping. Unlike chips, QR codes are easily scanned, just using an App on a smartphone. However, the QR code does not contain too much information that needs “security” as on the chip. On the contrary, the fact that the ID card attached to a chip stores a lot of information will help people later when they go to do administrative procedures, make transactions with banks, real estate, insurance, apply to study for their children …, No need to bring a variety of papers, just use this card.
