The Cano Cristales River is part of the Macarena National Park, Colombia, east of the Andes. This river is a tributary of the Guayabero River and is about 100 km long. Geological tectonics of Cano Cristales has many sediments, the rocks here are about 1.2 million years old.

In addition to the name Cano Cristales given by explorer Andres Hurtado in 1980, the river is also known by tourists with many different names such as “rainbow river” or “river of five colors”. (Photo: Unsual Palace) (Photo: RCN Radio) At the time of the change of seasons of the year, this river will bring different colors such as red, yellow, green, blue, black, creating a magical and rare scene in the land of South America. These colors stand out against the yellow background of the sand in the riverbed, the green of the moss, the water and the dark patches from the rock holes that have given this river its beautiful name. This unique color is produced during the reproduction of aquatic plants in the river, scientifically known as Macarenia Clavigera, a species of river algae Podostemaceae. (Photo: El Tiempo) (Photo: Wiki Travel) This aquatic plant is the reason why the river is sometimes green, sometimes it turns bright red, orange yellow and even dark brown. The outstanding colors have created an interesting picture of nature that makes those who come here and witness this scene first-hand, surprised and admire the magic of nature. Locals say the best time to observe aquatic species is after a storm, when their colors are at their most vibrant. (Photo: Time of India) (Image: Getty Images) The Cano Cristales River is located in a rather remote area and is almost completely isolated from the outside. Therefore, this river still retains its wild and poetic beauty. (Photo: Zen.yandex) (Photo: Traveler) Besides admiring the strange scenery of the river, visitors here are also attracted by the rich flora and fauna. Serrania de la Macarena National Park is home to more than 400 species of birds and many rare animals such as turtles, iguanas and aguilas – birds are the national symbol of Colombia. Every year, this place welcomes millions of visitors. However, the Cano Cristales River only accepts visitors from June to December. From January to May, this area will be closed to let the ecosystem here “rest” and preserve.

Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA : Mixing unique colors, the Fly Geyser geothermal geyser is likened to a natural wonder in the heart of the Black Rock desert in Nevada. Strong water pressure pushes minerals and hot gases off the surface, interacting with oxygen and thermophilic algae in hot and humid conditions, creating a rainbow effect. The color of the fountain as well as the surrounding small ponds is constantly changing with the seasons and the amount of water being ejected. With its magical beauty, this place attracts paparazzi from all over the world. Landmannalaugar, Iceland : This is one of the most impressive landscapes in Iceland with large mountains of strange beauty. Coming here, visitors can enjoy the colorful picture with plateaus, hot springs and fjords. The color mixing thanks to the geological features of Landmannalaugar, which is a volcanic area. Lava from volcanoes forms obsidian green, pink, brown, yellow, purple… With the ingenious color scheme of nature, Yuanyang rice terraces , Yunnan, China, was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2013. This scenic spot was built on the red soil mountains more than 2,500 years ago, located at an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters above sea level. The fields are filled with green, brown and yellow spring water from the forests, creating a fanciful scene. Cano Cristales River, Colombia: The Cano Cristales River, also known as the River of Five Colors, is located in the Serrania de la Macarena National Park. The river wears a colorful shirt and has crystal clear water. The vibrant colors that visitors see are actually algae clinging to the rocks. Palouse, Washington, USA : Located south of Spokane, Palouse is an agricultural area, mainly producing wheat and legumes. This is considered a land with beautiful multi-colored grass like lacquer paintings. The alluvial sand dunes are typical of Palouse. Flat land here is very rare, mainly sloping terrain. The Land of 7 Colors , Mauritius: The famous natural wonder of the island nation of Mauritius attracts visitors by its colorful sand dunes, surrounded by tropical jungle. The dunes are created when basalt lava gradually transforms into clay minerals, encountering different temperatures of the rock, forming 7 distinct colors. Prominent among the vast nature are the smooth strips of land with bright colors such as red, orange, yellow, purple… Painted Hills , Oregon, USA: Drawing Hill is one of the attractions in the US that attracts tourists around the world. Each color layer here corresponds to a geographic period. Geologists believe that the black layer is lignite, derived from ancient riverbank plants. The red layer is laterite rich in iron and aluminum. Gray patches alternate between layers of shale and mudstone. Due to the special geological structure, Doi Ve has almost no living plants. Huay Mae Khamin Waterfall , Thailand: This spectacular waterfall is considered one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Thailand. The chain of 7-tiered waterfalls is white, combined with moss-covered rocks, and the jungle changes colors vividly every season. All create a natural picture with artistic color schemes. Ningaloo Marine Park , Western Australia: Located on the coast of Western Australia, the park owns more than 500 species of fish and 200 types of coral. With a drone view, you can admire the cyan waters that blend with the pale shoreline of Cape Range National Park.
