More and more electric cars Boom for Battery manufacturer

Status: 06/17/2021 10:13 a.m.

The growing number of e-cars on the streets is causing the battery market to grow strongly. One EU country in particular can catch up significantly with its Asian competition.

From Oliver Feldforth, MR

For years it was talked about, now the boom in electric mobility really seems to be there. Electric cars are very popular at a leading Frankfurt dealership. One seller says that what is delivered to him can also be easily sold.

The electric cars have contributed to the fact that the corona pandemic could not harm the battery market in Germany. Last year there was an increase of 35 percent. “Above all, the volume of the market for lithium-ion batteries has increased enormously,” says Christian Eckert from the Central Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics Industry ZVEI. Overall, this segment grew by 63 percent. And that is mainly due to electromobility.

The recycling rate should increase

A battery is only as green as the material and the electricity used to make it. Even the electric car is only as green as the electricity with which it is charged. When it comes to battery recycling, German industry is on the right track, said Christian Rosenkranz, Chairman of the ZVEI Batteries Association. The recycling rate for classic batteries is 80 to 90 percent, while it looks worse for lithium-ion batteries, which are in increasing demand. The industry wants to achieve a rate of 65 percent in four years.

Environmentalists see a need for action. “It is not only in Germany that we have to set high social and ecological standards for the production of batteries,” says Benjamin Stephan from Greenpeace. “The car manufacturers are responsible for this, but politics must set clear rules for all companies.”

Poland leads the way in Europe

Germany imports batteries. The manufacturers from Europe overtook the Asian competition for the first time last year. In Europe, Poland is the leading producer, in Asia it is China, according to Christian Eckert from the ZVEI.

And electromobility will continue to grow. Volkswagen sees it that way too. The car manufacturer plans to set up six battery cell plants of its own in the next few years. According to Ralf Brandstätter, head of the Volkswagen brand, by 2030 at least 70 percent of all new Volkswagens in Europe should be electric vehicles, in North America and China more than half.

Solid-state batteries as the technology of the future

The decision as to which drive for cars comes after the classic combustion engine seems to have been decided for the time being. “The battery-electric drive is the most efficient and significantly more economical than fuel cells and combustion engines,” said Benjamin Stephan from Greenpeace. “With the same amount of renewable electricity, a car with a fuel cell can only go half as far as a battery-electric one.”

In the case of car batteries, solid-state batteries are to replace lithium-ion technology. It does not require cobalt, which under questionable circumstances is mainly extracted in Africa. For environmentalists, electromobility is only part of the necessary turnaround in traffic. And so Greenpeace is also calling for a change in mobility towards an intelligent transport system in which bicycles, buses and trains play a bigger role

European market China is significantly reducing investments

Status: 16.06.2021 12:53 p.m.

China invested less in the European market in 2020 than it has for ten years. Great Britain was particularly hard hit. It’s not just the corona pandemic to blame. China significantly reduced its direct investment in the European market last year. According to a joint report by the American Rhodium Group and Merics in Berlin, direct investments by the People’s Republic in the EU and Great Britain amounted to around 6.5 billion euros in 2020. Compared to the previous year, a decrease of 45 percent. That is the lowest level in ten years.

Great minus for Great Britain

In the past year, even 77 percent less Chinese direct investment flowed into Great Britain. Even so, the UK remains one of the top three destinations for China’s investments in Europe – alongside France and Germany at the top. The three most important areas for Chinese investors were infrastructure, information and communication technology and electronics. Poland, promoted by a major acquisition, was a major new recipient last year.

Stricter controls on Chinese purchases

However, many Chinese purchases are now being scrutinized more closely by the EU member states than in the past. Several planned takeovers did not materialize. In Germany, for example, the Federal Ministry of Economics stopped the planned sale of the radar specialist IMST from North Rhine-Westphalia to a Chinese company with links to the military. Several EU countries, including Italy, France, Poland and Hungary, had tightened their inspection mechanisms for direct investments from third countries last year. Investments continued to decline in the current year, according to the report. The reasons are the pandemic, high hurdles for capital outflows from China and tighter controls in the EU.

Sanctions dispute exacerbates tensions

In addition, the tense relations between China and the EU are likely to play a role. That’s the way it is Investment protection agreements agreed in December between the EU and the People’s Republic is currently on hold and ratification by the European Parliament seems to be moving further and further into the distance. Another point of contention remains the human rights violations in China: In March, the EU Sanctions imposed on Chinese politicians and an organization for the first time in 30 years .
Transparency International Germans concerned about economic influence

Status: 15.06.2021 09:26 a.m.

Many EU citizens perceive corruption as a major problem – this is evident from the current corruption barometer from Transparency International. Germany too has to do significantly more. From Philipp Eckstein, ARD capital studio Corruption: a problem across the European Union. The perception of the citizens is correspondingly critical. This is how the statements of the corruption barometer from Transparency International can be summarized. Between October and December 2020, more than 40,000 people were interviewed by telephone for the representative survey in the EU. Around a third of them said that they believe that corruption has increased in their country in the past year. The increase in Cyprus was particularly strong at 65 percent.

Corruption scandal in Cyprus

Last year, journalists there discovered that politicians had sold passports to criminals from abroad – probably for a fee. That is one reason why the perception of corruption in Cyprus has deteriorated so significantly, according to Transparency International. Almost two thirds of the EU citizens questioned said in the survey that corruption was a major problem in their government. There are clear differences within the EU.

Big differences between countries

While in Denmark and Finland only twelve and 16 percent perceive a corruption problem in their government, in Bulgaria it is 90 percent and in Croatia even 92 percent. Of the 4800 or so respondents in Germany, 34 percent said corruption was a problem in the federal government. Overall, according to the study, trust in government and politics in Germany is relatively high compared to many other European countries.

    03/11/2021

Criticism of federal states Easy game for lobbyists The federal states do poorly in a lobby ranking compiled by “Transparency International”.

Nevertheless: “We still have a problem with corruption,” says Hartmut Bäumer, Chairman of Transparency Germany. 62 percent of those questioned would say: “The government is essentially controlled in its decisions by large financial interests.” So it follows financially strong interest groups and not the interests of the general public. In addition, more than 38 percent have the perception that the federal government is doing too little against corruption. Taken together, “these are numbers that are really worrying,” said Bäumer, “because they feed those who are critical of the state and our liberal democracy anyway. And that is, so to speak, the breeding ground for everything that changes from lateral thinkers or right or left radicalism developed from. ”

Stricter requirements for lobby registers

The federal government urgently needs to do more to combat corruption and, above all, to ensure more transparency, according to Transparency International, for example through stricter rules for the lobby register. The anti-corruption organization is also calling for corporate criminal law to be introduced. Such measures can regain lost trust.

    01/28/2021

Germany in the corruption register There is a lack of transparency Transparency International calls for more control over party donations and insight into vaccine contracts.

This seems to be urgently needed, especially in the business sector. According to the survey, one in three respondents in Germany believe that all or most of the business leaders are involved in corruption. More than half believe companies use money or relationships to get public contracts.

Company location Less bankruptcies instead of bankruptcies

Status: 10.06.2021 11:38 a.m.

The number of companies filing for bankruptcy in Germany fell in the first few months of the year. Other numbers also indicate no bankruptcy wave so far. But there were significantly more consumer bankruptcies. In the current year, the wave of bankruptcies feared as a result of the corona crisis has not materialized in Germany so far. From January to March, 3762 companies filed for bankruptcy, as the Federal Statistical Office announced. That meant a decrease of 19.7 percent compared to the first quarter of the previous year. “The economic hardship of many companies due to the Corona crisis was therefore not yet reflected in an increase in the number of reported corporate insolvencies,” explained the statisticians. The number of regular insolvency proceedings opened gives indications of further developments. In May, this was seven percent below the value of the previous month. In April there was even a decline of 17 percent after significant growth rates had been registered in February and March.

Effect of the Corona exception rules

One reason for the low number of company bankruptcies in the current year is the obligation to file for insolvency, which was temporarily suspended during the Corona crisis, for insolvent and over-indebted companies. Insolvent companies have had to file for bankruptcy again since October 2020. This obligation was suspended until the end of December for over-indebted companies. For companies that have been waiting for the payment of the government aid that has been planned since November, the obligation to apply for insolvency proceedings since May 1, 2021 applies again in full in the event of an imbalance. On average, the companies affected by insolvency in the first quarter were larger than in the same period of the previous year. At 17.1 billion euros, the expected claims of the creditors were well above the figure for the same period in the previous year of 7.3 billion euros.

Consumer bankruptcies have risen sharply

The number of consumer bankruptcies developed differently than with companies. This rose in the first quarter by more than half compared to the same period of the previous year to 22,686. “The sharp increase is related to a law to gradually shorten residual debt discharge procedures from six to three years,” explained the Federal Statistical Office. The new regulation enables those affected to make a quicker economic fresh start after insolvency proceedings. “It can therefore be assumed that many over-indebted private individuals initially withheld their application for bankruptcy in order to benefit from the new regulation,” it said.

According to the Top Gear Volkswagen has a different idea about autonomous vehicle technology, that in the future users can turn on or off the car’s self-driving features when needed. The accompanying condition is that the customer must register a subscription.

That means if the autonomous feature is needed, car owners can activate it and pay for it. Currently, any car connected to the internet can receive software updates, similar to electronic devices like smartphones. Even with just one software upgrade, the range of an electric vehicle can be dramatically increased. Existing platforms make Volkswagen’s head of sales and marketing Klaus Zellmer think the group can exploit that way of working to give customers more freedom in the use of their vehicles. Instead of letting customers choose the equipment, Volkswagen will assemble the car with everything but disable them with software. When there is a need to use it, customers spend more money to rent that feature under a monthly or yearly subscription package. To visualize, Zellmer used the example of Level 4 autonomous mode expected on VW vehicles in the future. As soon as this almost the highest self-driving feature is officially adopted and widely used, many people probably still do not believe it and do not use it. So they won’t have to spend money. As for car owners in need, Zellmer shared that they may need to pay about 7 euros, about $ 8.5, per hour to be able to use the level 4 autonomous feature.

With such a sharp increase in import value, Vietnam rubber is accounting for 23.18% of the total value of rubber imported into China in the first 2 months of this year, up sharply from the rate of 15.98% in 2 months. early 2020.

In the Corona year 2020, fewer young people in Germany started an apprenticeship than ever since reunification. But there are big differences between the regions and industries.

The corona pandemic has also left deep marks on the training market. In the past year, so few people in Germany started an apprenticeship as they have not since reunification. According to preliminary calculations by the Federal Statistical Office, around 465,200 people in Germany signed a new training contract in dual vocational training in 2020. That was 9.4 percent less than the year before. Statisticians attribute the decline to the outbreak of the corona pandemic. Although the number of apprentices has tended to decline for years, the current slump is so far unique in its magnitude.

Stronger decline than in 2009

In fact, the decline is stronger than in 2009, when the total number of new contracts had shrunk by 7.6 percent in the wake of the financial crisis. In addition, the statisticians have not counted a lower number of new apprenticeship contracts since 1991, when the data from West and East Germany were combined for the first time. The President of the Central Association of German Crafts, Hans Peter Wollseifer, was concerned about the numbers: “Trainees who are not being trained now will be lacking as specialists in the future,” he told the German Press Agency. It is also noticeable that the number of new contracts in dual training has decreased more among women (by 10.2 percent) than among men (minus 8.9 percent). According to the statistics office, a good third of all new contracts were concluded by women and almost two thirds by men in 2020.

Burglary particularly strong in Hamburg

There are also clear differences when comparing countries. The number of new contracts is declining in all federal states, but the percentage of the decrease differs considerably in some cases. While the numbers fell the most in Hamburg (minus 13.5 percent) and Saarland (minus 12.4 percent), the decline was smallest in Brandenburg with minus 2.8 percent and in Saxony (minus 4.8 percent) . When looking at developments in the individual sectors, there are also major differences. While there was even a slight increase of 500 contracts in agriculture, the number fell in all other sectors, in some cases considerably. Industry and trade were particularly affected, where almost twelve percent fewer new training contracts were concluded. In the trades it was down by 6.6 percent. The statisticians explain the decline in trade with the fact that this area has suffered particularly from the pandemic because of the months-long restrictions with the closure of most shops. According to preliminary results, a total of around 1.289 million people were in dual vocational training as of December 31, 2020. Compared to 2019 (1.329 million), the number of trainees is also down.

Before that, when My Tam announced the venue for Tri Am’s liveshow as Military Zone 7 Stadium, many people speculated that the expected capacity was up to 40,000 spectators. However, the stadium representatives later confirmed that only 18,000 tickets were stamped and the maximum capacity was 25,000.

On the new place is Phu Tho Stadium, some information says that the capacity here falls to about 5000 and can be expanded to 7000 if it is a big event. This means that compared to the original expected number of tickets, the audience participating in Liveshow Tri Am has decreased to only 1/3.

Currently, some viewers are still wondering if moving to a new location with such capacity while the initial ticket sales may be higher, how these cases will be resolved.
