In addition to traffic purposes, the Han River Bridge also has great aesthetic value that many people say, it is as beautiful as a painting in the heart of the city. It is even more remarkable that the construction cost of Song Han Bridge is socialized with the support and contribution of the city people accounting for 30%. A corner of the Han River in the night of fireworks (photo: ST). Song Han Bridge not only creates more convenience for transportation, tourism, arouses the economic potential of a large land in the east of the city, but also is a cultural imprint of Da Nang people today. for all generations to come. Since then, the symbol of Da Nang is not only Marble Mountains but also this unique rotating bridge. Thuan Phuoc Bridge Thuan Phuoc Bridge was started construction in early 2003 and inaugurated on July 19, 2009. This is a cable-stayed bridge located to the west of the Han River, where the Han River flows into the sea at the mouth of Da Nang Bay. Since then, a complete transport – tourism system has been completed, opening the possibility of exploiting tourism potential not only in Da Nang but also for neighboring localities such as Hoi An and Thua Thien Hue. Dragon Bridge Da Nang Dragon Bridge has a unique architecture that simulates a strong Ly Dynasty dragon reaching out to the sea, becoming an important highlight and an architectural symbol of the city. The distinctive feature of the bridge is that it is a model of a steel beam structure system in the form of a dragon flying over the Han River, facing the sea. This is said to be a unique design unprecedented in the world for a load-bearing structure that is a combination of steel beams, steel arches and concrete beams. Dragon Bridge shimmering, magical at night (photo: ST). Dragon Bridge (photo: Thai Quan Chung). Another highlight of the Dragon Bridge is that people can admire the fire-breathing and water-breathing dragons every Saturday and Sunday night at 21:00. A very beautiful sight that visitors should not miss. According to experts, the Dragon Bridge not only evokes the proud tradition of being the “Dragon and Fairy grandchild” of the Vietnamese people, but with the imitation of the Dragon shape, it also brings confidence to the people. Dragon and phoenix are two mascots in the minds of Asians, so the image of a fire-breathing dragon at the Dragon Bridge opposite the shape of a phoenix bird spreading its wings over Tran Thi Ly bridge will give strength and faith. about a Da Nang – the cultural, economic and financial center of Vietnam and the region will take off. Tran Thi Ly Bridge Inaugurated and put into use in March 2013, Tran Thi Ly bridge has a length of 731m, a width of 34.5m, a height of 145m designed in the shape of a sail on the Han River reaching out to the sea. The bridge has a reinforced concrete pylon with a 12-degree inclination and 3-plane cable-stayed sections in which the western ropes are arranged to twist the space like sails, expressing the unique, modern and aspirational development of the company. Tien Son Bridge is the last river-crossing bridge on the East-West Economic Corridor before this Trans-Asia Road reaches the East Sea through the deep-water Tien Sa port. This is also considered the main cargo transport bridge across the Han River. Among the 6 bridges spanning the Han River, Tien Son Bridge is the only one invested in construction and managed by the Ministry of Transport. The bridge belongs to package 5 of the Tien Sa – Da Nang port expansion project phase 1 (1999-2004) on the East-West economic corridor, invested from the Japanese Government’s ODA loan and reciprocal capital. from the budget. The rustic and solid beauty of Tien Son Bridge (photo: ST). Tien Son Bridge is more than 500m long with 4 lanes and pedestrian walkway.
Mr. Vien Long Binh, aged 91, is considered the father of hybrid rice. Photo: CCTV. “We recognize and highly appreciate the contributions of Professor and Academician Vien Long Binh to the world agricultural science in general and China in particular, especially appreciate the results of hybridization to create The world’s first hybrid rice was developed in 1973. With this success, he has helped nearly 20% of the world’s population escape hunger and contributed to making China one of the world’s leading rice producers,” said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan. First letter of condolence, sent on May 23, 2021, to the family of the late Professor, Academician Yuan Longping and the Chinese agricultural industry. Mr. Yuan Longping was born in 1930, is China’s leading agricultural scientist on hybrid rice. He and his colleagues have contributed to bringing rice yield from 4.5 tons/ha to 15 tons/ha. This is considered the key to helping China solve the food security problem for more than a billion people in this country. Thanks to the late Professor Vien Long Binh, hybrid rice has been replicated throughout Africa, America and Asia. In Vietnam, the first generation of hybrid rice that was put into wide production was the variety Bac Uu 64 (also known as Tap Giao 4 – TG4), starting in the early 1990s. Thanks to this variety, along with the following varieties. such as San uu 63 (called Tap Giao 1), San uu Que 99 (Tap Giao 5), Vietnam has stabilized domestic food. After nearly ten years of access, our country has self-produced high-quality hybrid rice varieties such as HYT100, HYT 57, LC2, LC3, especially VL20 and TH3-3. However, the pioneer in the development of hybrid rice still belongs to the late Professor Vien Long Binh. Minister Le Minh Hoan continued: “In his working life, Professor, Academician Vien Long Binh has visited, worked, and supported projects/programs on hybrid rice many times, and trained staff. Research and technology transfer for Vietnam’s agricultural industry These are solid agricultural scientific foundations, gradually contributing to poverty reduction, ensuring food security and creating an export miracle. rice export of Vietnam”. At the end of the letter, Minister Hoan expressed his gratitude to the man who is considered the father of hybrid rice: “In the face of infinite grief, on behalf of Vietnam’s agricultural industry and in my personal name, I would like to send to the whole family of Mr. and the Chinese agriculture industry deeply condolences for this great loss and grief.”

Mr. Vien Long Binh was still diligently researching hybrid rice until the last days of his life. Photo: CNS. The following article by Christina Jiang- a Chinese international student studying in the UK about the merits of professor-academician Yuan Longping, was published in 2019 in the newspaper. The Oxford Scientist. Jiang wrote: A few weeks ago, on October 1, 2019, something quite strange happened in my house: Our whole family had dinner next to the TV screen! It was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, in 1949, after years of conflict and political instability. While we were reviewing the parade that morning and the gala dinner that lasted until midnight, my parents and grandparents started talking about Chinese history and culture. In 1973, Mr. Vien Long Binh was the first to develop hybrid rice and achieved hybrid dominance in rice. Hybrid dominance is where progeny hybrids of two different parents are produced with difficulty but are more productive and grow faster. The conversation eventually turned to the Chinese, especially scientists, who are quite famous at home, but barely known abroad. I felt very ashamed when I realized that out of all the names they were mentioning, I didn’t recognize any though sure, I had vaguely heard of them but couldn’t remember any. what. The great merit of agronomist Vien Long Binh helped the once-poor and most populous country in the world overcome hunger. Photo: CRI. The conversation continued until everyone talked about a special man: Vien Long Binh. Again, I don’t know what he did, but after listening and learning more about him, I understand why the people of this country respect him so much. When you start thinking about scientists, what do you usually think of? For me, those are big fields like physics, chemistry or medicine. And Mr. Vien here works in an industry that I didn’t even realize was considered science. He is an agronomist, a scientist active in the field of agriculture. Whether he did not cure a rare disease or discover fundamental truths about the universe, I think what he has achieved is equally important. Due to the self-pollinating nature of rice plants, hybridization is considered impossible because self-pollinating species have to undergo a long process of selection. Thus, all the inferior traits are removed and only the superior ones are left, which is detrimental to hybridization. But Mr. Vien Long Binh proved this wrong. He used a male sterile wild rice variety and produced a rice that was up to 20% more productive. Since then, its productivity has continuously increased. Currently, 50% of rice in China comes from agronomist Vien Long Binh’s hybrid varieties and produces 60% of the country’s total rice production. An estimated 300 billion kilograms of the rice varieties created by Mr. Vien have been planted in the past 20 years, and its yield growth alone is more than enough to feed an additional 60 million people. “Father of hybrid rice” Vien Long Binh cut his hair at a familiar salon in Trường Sa, Hunan province. Photo: Global Times. Those who have been interested in China’s long history of development will see why the topic of hybrid rice has attracted so much attention and become such a big deal. And that is also what prompted Mr. Yuan Longping to embark on his research career in response to one of the greatest disasters of the 20th century, the greatest famine in China. The disaster that left at least 36 million people starved to death began in 1959, when the Great Leap Forward was unleashed with misguided policies and natural disasters, leading to a food shortage crisis. on a nationwide scale. Although he has been working and producing results since the 1970s, it is only in the past 20 years that Mr. Vien Long Binh’s efforts have been recognized to a higher level. He was awarded the World Food Prize in 2004 and the Confucius Peace Prize in 2012. In 2019, at the age of 89, he continued to work, devoting his life to developing rice with higher yields and more difficult growing conditions. There are varieties that can grow in very arid conditions in Africa and may even one day grow in salt water. Hybrid rice varieties have since been grown in many countries in Africa, the Americas and Asia, providing food for areas at risk of famine. Because of his contribution, Mr. Vien was dubbed the “Father of Hybrid Rice” by the Chinese media. In the world’s most populous country, there are now at least four famous landmarks and a university named after him. Professor-academician Yuan Longping born on September 7, 1930 is a famous Chinese agronomist, known for creating the first hybrid rice varieties in the 70s of the last century. He won the China Preeminent Science and Technology Prize in 2000, the Agriculture Prize and the 2004 World Food Prize. Before his death, he was still the leader of the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center. He is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a former associate of the US National Academy of Sciences. Mr. Vien Long Binh also served as chief advisor to FAO in 1991.

Chinese scientist Yuan Longping passed away at the age of 91 on May 22. Photo: scmp.com China’s top rice researcher has died at a hospital in Trường Sa city, capital of Hunan province. Born in Beijing in 1930, agronomist Yuan Longping succeeded in creating the world’s first high-yield hybrid rice in 1973. With five decades of research on hybrid rice varieties grown on the ground. Covering 9% of the world’s total arable land, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering has helped nearly 20% of the world’s population escape hunger. This hybrid rice variety can yield 20% higher than conventional rice varieties. After that, this rice variety was widely grown in China and many other regions around the world. Currently, about 16 million hectares of agricultural land in China is planted with this hybrid rice variety, accounting for 57% of the total rice area in the country, thereby helping to feed an additional 80 million people every year. Agronomist Vien Long Binh has contributed to making China one of the world’s leading rice producers. With this success and contribution, he is considered the “father” of hybrid rice. In recent years, scientist Vien Long Binh and his research team are still breeding and developing a hybrid rice variety that can be grown in saltwater environments. Scientist Vien Long Binh once said that he has two dreams, which is “enjoying the coolness under the shade of rice plants taller than a person’s head” and that hybrid rice can be widely grown around the world to solve the problem. global food shortage.

Amidst thousands of seas, officials and employees of Lighthouse stations day and night silently dedicate their youth so that the Lighthouse never goes out. That ‘divine eye’ not only illuminates the way for ships to pass in the dark, but also affirms the landmark of sovereignty over the country’s sea and islands.

Mr. Pham Van Thuong (Nam Yet Lighthouse) cleans and maintains the “magic eye” The “divine eyes” During the voyage, every time the ship 571 anchored to the shore while it was still dark, the only thing for us to know the island’s location was from the light of the Lighthouse, also known as the “magic eye”. According to a sailor, currently on the islands and points of Truong Sa island, there are 9 lighthouses in Da Lat, An Bang, Da Tay, Tien Nu, Song Tu Tay, Truong Sa Lon, Sinh Ton, Son Ca and Nam Yet islands. . All 9 lighthouses are operated and maintained by engineers, officers and employees of the East Sea and Islands Maritime Safety Company. The construction of the lighthouse station on the islands was started when the international shipping route expanded at sea and to meet the requirements of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation. In particular, Song Tu Tay lighthouse was first built on the archipelago (1993), 17 nautical miles away from which ships can see bright white lights, single blinking every 15 seconds. The construction of the Lighthouse depends on the geology and coral background. On Song Tu Tay island, the lighthouse is built in the shape of a circular tower in the east of the island; The lighthouse on Da Lat island is built in the shape of an arrow on a coral background, has an iron and steel structure with flower slanting holes to reduce the acceleration of the wind, while the lighthouse on Son Ca island has a cylindrical shape… Son Ca island lighthouse stands tall like a fortress, standing tall in the middle of the ocean and is considered the most beautiful lighthouse in the 9 lighthouses in the Truong Sa archipelago. Tran Van Chien – Head of Son Ca Lighthouse said: “Son Ca lighthouse is 28m high, 25.5m bright center, group 2 white flash, 10 seconds period, 15 nautical miles effective range. During the day, in good weather, dozens of nautical miles away from passing ships can be seen. The lighthouse operates from 5:30 p.m. the previous day to 5:30 a.m. the next morning. On a day with thunderstorms, fog, or bad weather, the lights must be turned on earlier and turned off later. When there is a problem, the main light is damaged, the auxiliary light will be turned on for replacement and the main lamp must be repaired immediately. Under no circumstances shall the Lighthouse be turned off. Because the lighthouse is not only a landmark for ships operating in the area, but also a light of national sovereignty at sea. The “lighters” With the task of not letting the Lighthouse be turned off under any circumstances, engineers, officers and employees of the East Sea and Islands Maritime Safety Company must work day and night. The environment is harsh, often in contact with batteries, acids, mechanical equipment, and conductive objects, but they always fulfill their noble duties. They are considered to be diligent “lighters”, so that the flame of love for their homeland and country always shines. Their idyllic work is a silent sacrifice, the Lighthouse shines with time, which means that their hair is partly gray because of the sun and wind. Son Ca Lighthouse Station Mr. Pham Van Thuong (SN 1990, Nam Yet Lighthouse Station) worked for 4 years in the profession and went to 6 islands to do his duty. “Due to saltwater contamination, the lighthouses are often rusted, if not maintained continuously, the lights are easy to catch fire. Whether it’s scorching sun or howling wind and rain, we have to climb to the top of the lamp post for periodic cleaning and maintenance. At a height of tens of meters, it only takes a small mistake to have an accident. When the sea is rough, at the lighthouse stations on the island, the waves hit the ground floor. Every 15 minutes, the brothers have to take turns on duty to check the technical parameters. Now there is solar power, so it’s less difficult, but before, it was very tiring to use the generator to generate electricity. It was an opportunity for me to come to the profession,” said Pham Van Thuong. The “magic eye” is never allowed to turn off, because it is lit from the hearts of all officers and employees of the Stations and the naval soldiers guarding the rooster of the Fatherland on a remote island… As a senior in the profession of “lighting lighthouses” for more than 24 years, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan (SN 1976, Song Tu Tay Lighthouse Station) has celebrated Tet more than 15 times on the island. Mr. Tuan confided: “Working in harsh climates and poor conditions, although it is hard, it has trained me more will and bravery. I am proud to work in Truong Sa. Looking at the bright lights in the black sky, I feel that my country is too sacred. Each flash is the breath and life of the person lighting the fire. To do this job, you must love the job, love the sea and islands of the homeland to complete the task well.” Mr. Bui Van Son (Chief of Sinh Ton Lighthouse Station) is considered an ancient tree of lighthouse stations in Truong Sa. With a period of more than 25 years, Mr. Son has gone to all 9 stations, with the lighthouse he went to for the fifth time. “Each station has its own look, different facilities and conditions. As the station chief, I had to balance the food, calculate how it was reasonable, and then call the mainland to buy what’s urgent so that my brothers and sisters would be less needy. In addition to regulating the work in the station, I often capture the emotional feelings of the staff, timely motivate, help people overcome difficulties. Along with carrying out the task of training and practicing island defense plans, contributing to strengthening the island’s combat strength when situations arise, sports and cultural exchanges are also maintained. We all came together very naturally, the brothers on the station lived more together than with their families,” said Mr. Son. Lighthouse lights run on solar power and automatically turn on and off when it gets dark, but always ensure that the engine and generator operate normally in all conditions, especially prolonged rainstorms. Salt vapor and sea breeze easily damage machinery and technical equipment, so officers and employees must regularly check, preserve and maintain equipment on the station. The “magic eye” is never allowed to turn off, because it is lit from the hearts of every officer, station staff and the navy soldiers guarding the rooster of the Fatherland on a remote island…

Together with localities across the country, the army-people in Truong Sa island district (Khanh Hoa) and the DK1 rigs are actively working to prepare for the big festival-election of National Assembly deputies (ĐQH). XV and delegates of the People’s Council (People’s Council) at all levels for the term 2021-2026. We are fortunate to witness the preparation atmosphere for the election day at the front line of the country, in the middle of the immense sea …
Looking forward to the big festival

There are also banners, slogans, and election propaganda panels that everyone sees in these days on the mainland, but seeing that image on the islands of Truong Sa island district and the DK1 rigs, we have The feeling is special. When we arrived at Sinh Ton island commune, the army and people on the island were excitedly preparing for the festival of all people to vote. In the mainland, there are many remarkable activities and images, plus the busy work that distracts many people, not realizing the exciting atmosphere preparing for the election day. And here, the whole island is like on a big festival. Pano, banners, propaganda posters were hung, glued everywhere, loudspeakers broadcast information about the election and songs about election topics bustling across the island … Comrade Ho Luong Hieu, Vice Chairman of Sinh Ton Commune People’s Committee said: The commune has been actively conducting all preparations for the election. In particular, the listing of voters of Sinh Ton island has been completed and consultative meetings have been held. The decoration of the ceremony has also been completed, the propaganda about the election to the fishermen and the units attached to, the armed forces performing the tasks here has been actively done by the locality for many days. The people on the island are well aware that going to vote is the right and duty of each voter, so they are excited to prepare to wait for the election day. Le Xuan Chat, a resident of Sinh Ton island commune, confided: “Outside the remote island, although the access to information is limited, my family and I are always interested in the situation of the country. On this occasion, I heard a lot of propaganda about the election work, I understand clearly the responsibilities of the voters and will consider carefully to elect the most deserving people ”. Officers, soldiers and people in Truong Sa town follow the electoral roll posted at the town People’s Committee. Similarly, in Truong Sa town, the preparation for the election is also actively carried out by the local authorities early. Truong Sa town has 3 constituencies: Unit 1 includes: Truong Sa Lon Island, Da Lat Island; Unit 2 includes: Truong Sa Dong Island, An Bang Island, Da Dong Island, Da Tay Island; The third constituency includes: Thuyen Chai Island, Phan Vinh Island, Toc Tan Island, Nui Le Island, Tien Nu Island. The number of candidates for the People’s Council in Truong Sa town is 24. Truong Sa town is administratively managing many scattered island points, so on election day there will be ships to each island point to coordinate to ensure that all voters can exercise their citizenship. Talking about the election preparation here, comrade Dinh Van Cuong, Chairman of the People’s Council of Truong Sa town, said: “We determine that the upcoming election will be a great festival of the townspeople. On the basis of thoroughly grasping documents of all levels on the electoral work, we set up election committees and established constituencies, electoral groups; fully implemented steps in introducing personnel, consulted and agreed to introduce the candidates for the People’s Council of Truong Sa town in accordance with regulations. Propaganda, ceremony decoration, preparation of constituencies, polling rooms, electoral cards, listing of electoral register … were carefully implemented. All ready for election day. The army and people of Truong Sa town believe that the upcoming election will be successful in the election of the National Assembly and the People’s Council deputies at all levels; At the same time, I hope the Party, State and elected delegates will continue to pay attention to the effective implementation of the Vietnam Maritime Strategy, the development of sea and islands in general and Truong Sa island district in particular to become stronger and stronger. firmly support fishermen to rest assured to reach the sea, firmly protect the sovereignty over the sea and sacred islands of the Fatherland ”. In the Spratly island district, the polling stations prepare the list of contingent electoral cards to be ready to serve fishermen in the area to exercise their right to vote if these voters have no conditions. return to the mainland on election day. Over the past several days, every fisherman’s boat has entered the islands to refuel, water, repair damaged ships or request medical examination and treatment … in addition to helping fishermen, island officials and officials, fighting soldiers stationed on the island also propagated to relatives about the election, and mobilized fishermen if they could not go to the mainland to vote, they would go to the island to register to exercise their voters’ rights and obligations in the great festival of the country. Mr. Cao Van Tho (born 1966, captain of fishing boat KH 99789TS, hometown in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province), who was fishing offshore, was sick, and was treated at the Truong Sa Town Hospital. Here, Mr. Tho was treated by doctors and heard propaganda about the election. Mr. Tho said: “I was informed by the soldiers here about the election and introduced the election points in Truong Sa. Election day, the capabilities of my ship are operating offshore. I will send the ship to the nearest polling place on the island for all crew members to exercise their right to vote ”. Sacred island votes are far away For the soldiers on the islands, the preparations for the election day are conducted very methodically and urgently. The activities of the army, emulation movements, political activities with the theme of the election were actively conducted by all units. On Truong Sa Dong Island, election education and propaganda have been actively and effectively implemented, both integrated into unit activities, mass organizations, and distributed continuously on the system. Internal broadcasting, hanging banners, panels, posters in many locations. The first time to exercise the right to vote, in this special place, soldier Nguyen Van Cong (Truong Sa Dong island) confided: “To me, this will be a memorable memory in my life because not everyone. I was also fortunate to participate in the election in the middle of the sea, in the sacred Spratly archipelago of the Fatherland. My teammates and I were eagerly awaiting the big festival but also quite nervous because this was the first time. Currently, I have the right to vote for the National Assembly and the People’s Council. Being in charge of the education and propaganda unit, I understand that I have to take high responsibility for my vote when voting ”. According to comrade Le Dinh Hai, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Truong Sa island district, the locality has implemented specific election work to each island commune and Truong Sa town. The entire island district has 24 polling stations. Currently, the preparation for the election has been basically completed. Khanh Hoa Provincial Election Committee proposed to the National Election Council for Truong Sa island district to hold elections a week earlier than the whole country. On the DK1 rigs, although the space is narrow and few people, but the preparation for the election for the 15th National Assembly and the representatives of the People’s Council at all levels for the term 2021-2026 is still carried out very methodically and thoughtfully. The day we went to the DK1-9 rigs, panels, campaign propaganda slogans were posted in the most formal and conspicuous locations; Voter lists are posted in the central meeting room of the rig. Senior Lieutenant Do Quoc Trai, Politician of the DK1-9 Rig said: “The election at the rigs is done according to the plan of the Naval Region 4. On the day of the election, the election team will move to each rig house. In the middle of the sea, we clearly see the sacredness of the voting ballot and we always determined to uphold the responsibility, contribute to the successful implementation of the whole country. This important dispatch ”. As far as Truong Sa island district and DK1 rigs were found, even in the middle of the sea, the preparations for the election day were still actively carried out by the Party committee, authorities, troops and people. thoughtful; All voters uphold their responsibilities, eagerly waiting for the day to manually vote to elect people worthy of representing themselves, for the people to join the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels with the expectation that delegates are full Having enough virtue and talent will continue to shoulder the responsibility of building the homeland, the country develops and prosperity day by day.
