The Kremlin today said it was still early to talk about the conditions for being able to hold a meeting between President Putin and his US ally, as proposed by the US leader.

In yesterday’s phone call, Mr Biden proposed meeting for a summit to resolve a series of conflicts between the two sides. But the Kremlin says it will study the proposal.

Japan has vowed to discharge more than 1 million tonnes of contaminated water from its Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea. A decision has angered neighboring countries, including China and local fishermen, condemning the protest.

The official confirmation of the move, made more than a decade after the nuclear disaster, would deal a stronger blow to the fishing industry in Fukushima, which has opposed the measure for years.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said at a meeting of ministers on April 13 that the government had decided that flushing into the Pacific was the “most realistic” and “inevitable” option to achieve Fukushima’s recovery.”

Diluted water release work will begin in about two years, the government said, with the entire process expected to take decades.
