Whether it’s a quick breakfast in a small bag on the way to school or a plate of sticky rice offered at a wedding, it seems that sticky rice dishes are always with us.
For a country with a rich rice culture like Vietnam, products made from rice still hold an important position in the cuisine. Rice is present in most everyday dishes, from rice-centered family meals, to pho, vermicelli, banh cuon, banh cuon, traditional cakes such as banh chung, banh day, and banh cuon. Tet, banh ú… Besides, there is another extremely popular dish, which is sticky rice.

It’s an early packet of sticky rice that my mother put in a bag to eat on the way to school Packages of sticky rice as a favorite snack, once cost only two to three thousand children. Sticky rice appeared in the lives of Vietnamese children very early, maybe from the time they started to eat and chew, adults would give them some soft sticky rice, sometimes from a pack of sticky rice that their mother bought in a hurry at the beginning of the alley. Then put it in a school bag for your child to eat on the way to school. Just a daily food, but sticky rice also comes to us in many different forms: from sticky sticky rice (mixed with pounded green beans, eaten with fresh and fleshy flesh), xoi xeo (finely pounded green bean sticky rice is held and served with onions. phi), or sticky rice with peanuts, white beans, and black beans. There are also salty sticky rice, served with sausages, spring rolls, pate and quail eggs. No exaggeration, we can eat sticky rice continuously seven days in a week without feeling bored, because no other sticky rice dish is the same. It is a solemn gift that is always included in memorable milestones in a person’s life Having accompanied from the day of school to adulthood, sticky rice is also an indispensable dish on important occasions. Sticky rice has appeared as an indispensable offering item in the cradle party (when children turn one year old), and must also be present in the Worshiping ceremony (the custom of worshiping when children turn 12 years old in the lunar calendar, on the occasion of a full round of rice). 12 zodiac animals). Moreover, sticky rice is also indispensable in both weddings and engagements. Sticky rice on this occasion must also have a fresh color, those who are skillful can shape sticky rice into the word “happiness”, apricot blossom, carp… It can be seen that, more than a simple dish, sticky rice is associated with many important customs in the spiritual life of Vietnamese people. Sticky rice on the occasion of the worshiping ceremony is often accompanied by water-dried tea, bean tea of all kinds, etc., so there are often stories of stalls selling sticky rice or tea from two combined into one, selling both sticky rice and tea. Sticky rice on this occasion is different from regular sticky rice, made in larger quantities and beautifully shaped and bright with the desire to bring good things. Among them, sticky rice is the most popular dish due to its bright and eye-catching red color. In addition, green bean sticky rice with yellow color is equally popular. It is a dish deeply attached to the spiritual culture of the Vietnamese people Sticky rice, no matter what form it takes, in the Vietnamese mind is always associated with the image of a delicious dish. Just mention the story of the rich man and the famous man, when Bom was nothing more than a handful of sticky rice: Phu Ong asked for a handful of sticky rice, Bom smiled “. This story is about the difference in opinion of the value of children and adults, while adults think that other things are precious, for children, just a handful of delicious sticky rice is enough to have fun all day. Writer Thach Lam once described sticky rice as very dear as follows: Sticky rice with beans, sticky rice with peanuts, sticky rice with sesame oil and coconut. Oh, the fat sesame sticky rice, holding each child’s fist, eating is both rich and fleshy. But it’s not expensive! One or two cents is enough. In the cold season, the sticky rice is hot, still slightly rising like a fog, eating both hot and confident. ” It can be seen that sticky rice in Vietnamese cuisine is a gift that is deeply attached to the spirit of the Vietnamese people. Xoi accompanies the Vietnamese generation from childhood to adulthood and old age. This is a dish that all generations, all classes of Vietnamese people love.

When I live in a vibrant and prosperous world, I remember the pure simplicity. For me, rustic is more precious than superficial prosperity, because prosperity is a play in the middle of the world, just need to use money to make money, and true rustic is ‘live’, live so clearly, live sublime, must live full-fledged, natural, barefoot, minimalist, no more – equal, show off, and don’t put makeup on life. So remember that place too, the space of the jar of the other M’nong region…
The space of heaven and earth there is a large low-lying area, with blocks of forests – mountains – lakes – lagoons – swamps – fields of many square kilometers through the Mother River and Krong Ana River. The mountain rings above enclose a distant arc embracing this huge inland basin below.

The homeland of the M’nong Rlam people is like that, full of chun and nul (swamp), which Lo (wetland rice fields) is formed in those chun and nul. They know that bha (rice sowing) since the Kinh people in the delta still have to sow rice seeds to create seedling and then transplant. Farming, being that “water rice”, is a special upstream, because when it comes to the Central Highlands, I don’t understand why Kinh people immediately think of life with a civilization of shifting cultivation, farming, or industrial crops. after that. Remember, this highland wet rice civilization has nothing like the nature – the characteristics – the concept of books that Vietnamese (and international) professors write about “civilization”. wet rice” such as in the Red River Delta, Mekong River, Chao Phraya River (Thailand), Irrawaddy River (Myanmar) or in Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Philippines… The fields and villages of the M’nong Rlam people. The M’nong Rlam community earns a living from wet rice, but the spirit of life leans heavily towards the mountains, the spirit of greatness, admires Yang Bre, Yang B’Nom (the god of the forest, the god of the mountain) and all beliefs, habits, rituals are for the forest, for the sun, not for the moon. They have lived like that for decades. They are Australoid and speak an ancient Mon-Khmer language. What is more interesting and unique is that their life form is not like the M’nong people in the central highlands (in Dak Nong province now), the M’nong Nor, M’nong Prang, or M’nong Gar groups. not far from them, and especially the Ede. Their M’nong quality is a unique marriage between the life and culture of the original M’nong ethnic group in the southwest and the nearby Ede (ancient Austronesian) ethnic group in the north of their homeland. Only they have all the wonderful essences of M’nong and Ede. The house does not drop to the ground like the M’nong Gar people, nor does it raise the floor like the long house of the Ede people, but falls in the middle of the other two living spaces – that is, just enough to get off the ground. That they stay in the house on stilts – the long house. That space off the ground is “great”, just enough to avoid the earth’s vapor, and the “drop” space is also strangely smart, just enough to not touch the hot, blue sky. Thinking and lifestyle in harmony with nature. * In the fertile fields out there, the rice seeds they sprouted and then spread out into the mud. About three months to harvest. In the past, the rice was cut by hand and the buffalo pedaled, but now also “play” with the reaper and the thresher. But here and there, the hobby of cutting rice remains. Nul, jar, sheet bhum (rice plant), ple bhom (rice grain), grang pai (rice grain) are not only crops, agricultural products, goods but also “loved ones”, companions. Going to cut together, as a family. This season starts harvesting for one house first, then the other season starts from the next house, and so on. If someone’s field is ripe first, then sit back at the table to flexibly adjust and agree to “settle”. Fairness happens naturally, almost completely. If there is a theft of rice, or theft of rice, it will be imported by free migrants, never from the M’nong Rlam community. Two rice crops a year, no worries about lack of rice. Food, vegetables, meat, fish are on the slopes of mountains, in fields, lakes, lagoons, gardens; planting and bartering, and even buying. It reminds people of what is simple and pure, in harmony with heaven and earth, plants and trees, about the peaceful life that was once real in the world. And, the forest is tolerant, chivalrous, immense kindness. “Where there is a forest, there is food”, the M’nong have a saying. * The twenty-first century has passed a fifth, and oh behold, the long houses of wood combined with bamboo and the wild lifestyle are still rife. The forest has been stripped white even in the mountains, because of the times, the fields appear in their original form. The To, Yel, Kdie, Dham, Pai Bi, Triek, Mih, Duong Krieng, M’Lieng, Le, Jun, Bong Krang, Yang Tao… in Lak district (Dak Lak) are filled with such longhouses. The basket became the inseparable object of M’nong women. The figure of the woman still casts shadows on the houses. They still carry bags on their shoulders up and down the long house. The woman is the owner of the kitchen, and the owner of everything on that long house, and in the fields near and far. The matriarchy, and the children bearing the mother’s surname, stand tall in the midst of this modern age. However, the man is still respected and respected. They still eat hot pot, drink beer, talk about Saigon, Hanoi – from the internet. They still wear jeans, ride motorbikes, and wear sunglasses. But the most meaningful days for them are still baking all that can be eaten, drinking the wine from the jar. They go back to their nature when they can. They do not accept lying when sitting together. Lying will make people smaller, and lose “place” in the community. They take “love” as the quality of life. Take love and sharing as the goal. And material and comfort as tools and means for the other two. All humanity knows the core and ultimate life value in life, but if they can’t do it, here, the M’nong Rlam can do it, gently, naturally… * Every time they wandered, rested, slept, stayed in their long house, how could it feel close, warm and natural. Is not to be careful in walking, speaking, looking, watching, listening, reading. You can sleep anywhere you like. I like to sing whenever I feel inspired. No need to say hello or thank you much. They say gifts for them should not be bought with money but come to them, and remember them when going. They say that they have something to eat when they stay at home, never planning food, drinks, space layout. Bon of the M’nong people who work in wet fields since ancient times has been organized in a lang class. “Modern” and “civilized” are in this spirit of life, not far away. Luxury is the spirit of luxury, not the person, the place, the food, the place to stay, the place to play, the place to talk. The needy soul, the messy heart, no matter how beautiful the dress, how expensive the car is, how big the house is, it’s just fooling your own heart and fooling people. The true happiness of anyone under this sky is also peace. * Thirty-five years ago, the forest still filled those arctic mountains and licked down Lak Lake. In the field is also bustling with aquatic species, let alone rivers and lakes. Absolute purity, originality, originality. And basically there are only M’nong Rlam people, and M’nong Gar people are nearby. Now, dozens of ethnic groups flock here. The land is suddenly cramped, compressed, and pressured on the mountains, down the fields, swamps, and lakes. These M’nong bon are suddenly wrapped, peeled off from the green, suddenly playing with. Pity. Here and there, people from Buon Ma Thuot, forty-five kilometers from them, began to open tours that brought tourists from far away to their places to earn money. Truthfulness, wisdom, and civilization are exploited by shrewdness. Tourist footsteps pressed on his head, the branches and grasses there were buried thick. I love for the model of the world’s pure and beautiful life in the midst of the tumultuous world everywhere and especially when it is in the plans of those far away who do not create value, do not commit, pay tribute. Donate and focus on reaping benefits in the easiest way. This world has been shaken and broken by the trend of “materializing” the world, “convenience”, “maximizing”, “devising”. When is M’nong Rlam’s turn? Articles and photos: Nguyen Hang Tinh

On the occasion of the real Korean New Year (lunar 3.3 of the lunar calendar), floating cakes, vegetarian cakes become products that many people in Hanoi buy. This morning, April 14, many people in the capital got up early to line up to buy floating cakes, vegetarian cakes to worship their ancestors. are many people in Hanoi looking to buy. This morning, April 14, many people in the capital got up early to line up to buy floating cakes, vegetarian cakes to offer to their ancestors.

According to folk beliefs, the 3rd day of the third lunar month is called the real Korean New Year. On this day, people often make floating cakes, vegetarian cakes to make offerings to their ancestors. This is an opportunity for children and grandchildren to look to the roots of the tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source”.

As noted by the reporter of the To Quoc e-newspaper earlier this morning, many people flocked to a famous store on Ngo Thi Nham street to buy floating cakes, vegetarian cakes for the ceremony.

In the Chinese sense, “Han” means cold, “real” is to eat, the real Korean New Year is to eat cold food. Although originating from China, the real Korean New Year of the Vietnamese still has its own nuances. In addition, this custom also has changes in accordance with the culture and customs of the Vietnamese people.

The use of floating cakes, vegetarian cakes to worship also has many good meanings. This custom represents the long rice culture of the Vietnamese people. Both cakes are made from fragrant glutinous rice flour, the fruits of hard work can be offered to grandparents and ancestors. The cake floats into small balls, the inside is red sugar.

And the vegetarian cake is round and flat, with bean filling. Want to fill the green beans in the cake is more fragrant, the worker will choose the type of pepper, small seeds. In recent years, to serve the tastes of customers many people have used natural ingredients with colors to mix to make dough.

The owner of a shop on Ngo Thi Nham street shared: “According to experience from previous years, from the beginning of the third month of the lunar calendar, until March 3, the number of customers coming to buy goods is very large, so we had to command the whole family got up early in the morning to make the cakes. The most crowded peak period starts from 7am, lasts until afternoon and leaves customers gradually into the evening. Each customer usually has to queue from 30 minutes to 1 hour to buy cake ”.

According to observations, in the market for floating cakes, vegetarian cakes this year are convenient and ready-made cakes, users just need to boil them to use them immediately. Although there are more models, the price for each floating cake plate ranges from 15,000 to 20,000 VND.

“Every year, my family has gotten used to it here, so even if I have to wait a long time, I accept it. The cake here still retains the traditional taste of Hanoi, so the food is delicious” – Ms. Huong (Hai Ba Trung , Hanoi) share.

Recognized on many food streets, the air markets for people to go to the season of floating cakes, vegetarian cakes are bustling from the early morning.

“Our family has mobilized all the human resources in the house from last night to deliver goods to customers. This year, people mainly order cakes through home delivery technology applications, so they also reduce the number of customers. to the shop “- said a shop owner on Gia Ngu street.

Not only selling cakes, but small traders here also sell fresh flour for baking. These flour packages include all ingredients, customers just have to mold, shape to their liking and boil.

According to PV VTC News, from 6 a.m. on April 14 (March 3 of lunar calendar), many people were present at some places of making floating cakes, vegetarian cakes to buy cakes for the ceremony.

At Ngo Thi Nham street, a long line of people squeezed their feet to buy floating cakes and vegetarian cakes.

Many people cry to heaven because they have been waiting for an hour but still have not been able to buy the cake.

Sharing with PV, the owner of a floating cake shop on Ngo Thi Nham street said: “The number of visitors this year is higher than last year. We have to constantly add flour and mold to serve the customers buying ”.

“To serve the needs of customers, the store has prepared about 90kg of cake flour. Right from last night, the store has soaked cake dough. At 3 am, the store staff gets up early to do the dough, ready to serve every stage to serve customers ”, said the store owner.

Chen feet in the sea of people waiting to buy floating cakes, vegetarian cakes on the real Korean New Year, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung (in Ngo Thi Nham street, Hanoi) said: “I wait in line here for about 30-40 minutes. This year, I bought 2 kinds of whole vegetarian cakes. In my opinion, buying floating cakes, vegetarian cakes is a beautiful custom of my country. On this day, my family often eat the two types of cakes above instead of cooking as usual ”.

Glad to be able to buy floating cakes to worship the family, Ms. Thoa (in Cau Giay district, Hanoi) shared: “Every year, I come here to buy floating cakes and vegetarian cakes for my family every year. This year does not wait as long as every year “.

Floating cakes at stores cost about 15,000 VND / plate, vegetarian cakes 20,000 VND / bowl. Most of the stores sell both cooked cakes and pastries to customers who buy them to make them themselves.

Beautiful five-color floating cake attracts the attention of many customers.

However, the white floating cake is still the type most customers choose to buy.

On this day, many families also buy sugar, green beans, glutinous rice flour, sesame … to make their own floating cakes, vegetarian cakes to offer to their ancestors.

The Vietnamese custom of offering floating cakes and vegetarian cakes reminds the story of “wrapping a hundred eggs of Au Co’s mother”. Floating cake represents 50 eggs hatched into 50 children to the forest following their mother. Vegetarian cake represents 50 eggs that hatch into 50 children following their father into the sea.

Therefore, the real Korean New Year of the Vietnamese people mainly means towards the origin, commemorating the merits of the dead.

According to cultural experts, when March comes, the weather starts to heat up, preparing to turn into summer. Vietnamese people in the past have created floating cakes, vegetarian cakes which are cool and cool dishes. This dish is sweet, very suitable for hot days.
