It is estimated that Chinese people will make about 200 million trips during the five-day holiday season that starts on May 1.
According to the Bloomberg , statistics of Trip.com show that Chinese consumers book flights, hotel rooms and rent cars 2-3 weeks before the holiday of May 1. The number of transactions increased by 23%, 43% and 126% respectively over the same period in 2019.

The Chinese will make a total of 200 million trips during this period. This is the record number of the holiday season 1/5. Tickets to the Palace Museum in Beijing during the 5-day holiday season have been sold out. Disneyland Shanghai also sold out. The booming demand for travel has made many people unable to buy plane or train tickets to change their plans. Entrepreneur Victor Li, 32, decided to drive from Beijing to Taiyuan (in Shanxi province) to visit his family. A car ride will take 7 hours, while a train ride will only take 3 hours. CCTV reported that the 12306 railway ticket service sold 3.15 million tickets on May 1 from two weeks ago. 12306’s application is sometimes paralyzed because of the overwhelming number of visitors. The average airfare doubled over the same period in 2019, to 1,050 yuan ($ 162). “The 5-day holiday will completely relieve the demand for flying that has been held back for a long time (because of the Covid-19 translation),” said Shang Kejia, representative of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. “The International Labor Day Golden Week is the right time for consumers to travel across the country”.
