Architects G+architects designed a tile shell covering the house from wall to roof to reduce the amount of heat in the west direction behind the house.
Xuan Anh’s house is located in the valley in ward 2, Bao Loc city, Lam Dong province. The house was built for a family of two generations, both to live in and a place to meet friends on weekends.
The building is formed from a frame of columns and floors that have been spontaneously constructed since before architect G+architects participated in the design. The job of the G+architects architect is to expand a part of the floor to meet the function, strengthen the structure, connect the existing and unchanged things to a certain order and modulus. The main direction of the house is Southeast, this is the direction with a beautiful view, behind the West, the sun is quite strong in the afternoon. Therefore, the design team decided to use a tile shell covering the house from the wall to the roof, the hollow part and the glass wall focus all on the front. The work is formed from a frame of columns and floors that have been constructed spontaneously before. With a favorable location located under a small valley, the work can be observed from afar. The red block of tile appears as a prominent view in the middle of the valley. The tile layer covered from the wall to the roof shortens the impact of the westward sunlight into the house. The porch (veranda) is stretched like country houses. The slope of the tile roof allows to push the space of the dining room and kitchen area to become more outstanding and open. The dining room and kitchen are crowded places. Red tiles cover Xuan Anh’s house. With the advantage of a house in the valley overlooking the mountains and hills, the architect designed all glass walls in the front. The porch is also extended like country houses. In this space, the family can sit and sip a cup of tea, catching the sunrise in the morning. The living room, kitchen and dining room are seamlessly connected. The glass facade allows the house to receive a sufficient amount of natural light. The house uses completely glass walls, family members can easily see the nature outside. In addition, homeowners also save energy when the house uses a lot of glass. Architects G+architects chose the form of hiding the attic floor including the guest bedroom and the warehouse due to the relatively low density of use. The owner’s bedroom is separate, has a nice view of the garden and a large private porch and is located in the shade of the roof.
