On the evening of June 2, Huawei Technology Group officially released the self-developed HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system on a series of electronic devices, including smartphones, smart watches and tablets. In particular, the Mate 40, P40, Mate 30 and MatePad Pro tablets are the first models that Huawei “parts” from Android to switch to the new operating system.

Huawei’s HarmonyOS. Huawei launched HarmonyOS in 2019 after the US put the company on a “blacklist” and did not have access to Google’s Android operating system. This embargo, along with Washington’s ban on access to key semiconductors, has crippled Huawei’s smartphone business, just months after becoming the world’s number one smartphone maker. Developed since 2016, HarmonyOS can work on many of Huawei’s internet-connected devices, from smartphones to wearables. This operating system allows developers to easily build apps to work on a variety of devices. According to Huawei, version 2.0 of HarmonyOS has many interesting features such as Mirror Mode, Extended Mode and Collaboration Mode. Currently, the two most powerful operating systems in the world are still calling Android and iOS, other operating systems from Blackberry, Microsoft’s Windows Phone and Amazon Fire devices currently only account for a very small market share. To help its operating system grow, experts say Huawei’s biggest challenge is software applications, with the company having to convince software developers to reprogram its apps and other content. to operate on HarmonyOS operating system, through which consumers will continue to buy Huawei phones. As planned, right in the third quarter of this year, Huawei aims to be able to release HarmonyOS 2 for Nova 6/7/8, Mate 20 and all remaining MatePad tablets. The company is also expected to install this new operating system on V and S series smart displays, M6 tablets and Mate 20 X phones before 2021 ends. In the first half of 2022, Huawei will bring HarmonyOS 2 to Mate 9, Mate 10, P20, P10 and Nova 5 phones.
