The photographer captures more than 400 locks during the season

A photographer has found something new in artistic expression thanks to the old locks.

Antonio Olmos has been in Brighton (UK) since November 2020 for many personal reasons. When the area was blocked off, he took pictures of his life during social exclusion. Instead of the usual shooting contributions, Antonio discovered an interesting thing on the beach in Brighton. According to Antonio, the lock photos provide a metaphor for a blockade during the season. “There are 459 such bungalows on the beach stretching less than 3 km, from Hove Lawns to Hove Lagoon. I took 423 and only one was left without a lock,” Antonio said. Shooting the locks is not easy at all. This should be done on an overcast day as the sun is often reflected on the lacquered surface. This causes imperfect colors in the image. Antonio made the photo set with the Canon 5D mark IV and 24-70mm lens (mainly at focal length 50 mm). “A lot of people are curious about what I am doing. Some even think I work for the government and are checking to see if people have locked the doors,” Antonio said. Besides curiosity from the locals, Antonio also had a bit of trouble. One resident accused him of taking pictures with intent to break into. A lock has rusted after a long time of use. “In a world where everything is captured, it’s great to find something of your own,” says Antonio of his unique set of photos.
