Shangqiu, Henan, is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese civilization and the Chinese nation. (Qi) Yu Shang (now Shangqiu), his tomb was called “Shangqiu”, and the place name of Shangqiu came from this. The ancient city of Shangqiu is Dayi, the famous capital of all dynasties. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, with the opening of the Grand Canal, grain merchants, salt merchants, tea merchants, and silk merchants from all over the country gathered here, making Shangqiu a well-known commercial metropolis at that time. “The place where merchants gather”. Du Fu once wrote the poem “Qian Huai” here, and Li Bai also wrote the famous line in “Liang Yuan Yin”: “Dancing shadows and singing are scattered in the green pond, and the vacant water flows into the east”.

For thousands of years, the most thrilling battle that took place in the ancient city of Shangqiu was a battle to defend Suiyang in which the famous general Zhang Xun of the Tang Dynasty fought here during the Anshi Rebellion. After this battle, the ancient city had ten rooms and nine empty spaces until the second year of Song Jingkang (1127), when Zhao Gou ascended the throne and proclaimed himself emperor in Nanjing Yingtianfu (now Shangqiu Ancient City) and established the Southern Song Dynasty. The ancient city we see now was built in the 16th year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1503) and lasted eight years. Because it was the Mansion of Guide in the Ming Dynasty, it is also called the Ancient City of Guide.

Within ten miles of the ancient city of Shangqiu, the city of Guide in the Yuan Dynasty, Nanjing City of Yingtianfu, the companion capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, Song City of Sui, Tang and Song Zhou Dynasty, Suiyang City, the Capital of the State of Qin and Han Dynasty, Suiyang City of the State of Qin and Han Dynasties, and the Capital City of Song State of Zhou Dynasty are stacked in sequence This ancient city reproduces the history of nearly 5,000 years of ancient city changes since the establishment of Shangqiu in three dimensions. It is known as “living fossils” and “time-space museum”.

The 93 streets in the ancient city divide the city into multiple 200-meter square squares. The layout is like a chessboard. When viewed from the air, the entire ancient city is round and square like a huge copper coin. As the only surviving large-scale ancient city site in the world that integrates the trinity of Bagua City, Water City, and City Stack City, Shangqiu Ancient City was ranked first in the “Top Ten Most Potential Ancient Cities Ranking in China” in 2011. In 2013, it was awarded the title of “China’s Top Ten Tourist Destinations with the Most Investment Potential”.

Shangqiu is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization. Laozi, Confucius, Mencius and others often give lectures here. A large number of thinkers such as Zhuangzi, Mozi, Huizi and Song were born here. Founded in the second year of Xiangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty (1009), Shangqiu Yingtian Academy was the highest academy in the Northern Song Dynasty. It was also the only academy in ancient China that was upgraded to the Imperial College and was rated as one of the four ancient academies in China. .

Located outside the south gate of the ancient city, Zhang Xun Temple was built to commemorate Zhang Xun, Xu Yuan and others who were martyred to defend Suiyang during the “Anshi Rebellion”. There is Zhang Xun’s tomb in the park. In 757 AD, the rebel Yin Ziqi led 130,000 troops to attack Suiyang, Suiyang prefect Xu Yuan and Yongqiu defense history Zhang Xun led 6,800 soldiers to hold on for 10 months. After more than 400 battles, more than 120,000 enemies were killed. He died heroically and made great contributions to quelling the “Anshi Rebellion”.

The Baguanzhai on the opposite side of Zhangxunci, stands an eight-sided stone pavilion dating from the seventh year (772) of the Tang Dynasty Zongda calendar. The stone pavilion is used to describe the Tang Dynasty Songzhou (present-day Shangqiu) officials holding the Baguanzhai meeting in return for virtue. Established. The stone building is engraved with an article written by Yan Zhenqing, a calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, and his handwritten article “There are Tang and Song State officials Baguanzhai Huibao De Ji”.
