A survey by the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Council (TAB) from March 2021 shows that the trend of ocean and nature tourism is still prioritized by the people of Ho Chi Minh City.
Lam Dong, Kien Giang and Da Nang are the three cities and provinces most chosen by the people of HCMC. These are all names that have appeared in the list of top favorite destinations of Ho Chi Minh City people in September 2020 (also implemented by TAB).

According to TAB’s analysis, Lam Dong with 33% of the votes is the destination that always attracts tourists in Ho Chi Minh City. Southern provinces and seas are popular because it is suitable for family groups. Some northern provinces also appear in the top 10 of Lao Cai, Hanoi and Ha Giang. This is usually the spot chosen by a group of friends or tour travelers. Top destinations for tourists in Ho Chi Minh City. Photo: TAB. Comparing between 2 surveys in September 2020 and March 2021, TAB found that the top 9 destinations of Ho Chi Minh City people did not change. However, the location of the points had a relatively large change. Hanoi dropped to 9th place from 2nd place. Meanwhile, Ha Giang also dropped from 6th to 8th place. The TAB side identified the shift related to destination promotion. The solution they offer is to focus more on promotion. Travel time of tourists in Ho Chi Minh City usually lasts about 2-3 days or 4-5 days, depending on the point. For example, Lam Dong, on a 20% scale, the most chosen time is 2-3 days with 17.6%. The result is similar to Kien Giang when the number of tourists choosing to go 2-3 days accounts for 17.3%. However, with a destination as far away as Lao Cai, the number of tourists choosing to go 4-5 days is slightly higher than that of 2-3 days (10.2% versus 9.3%). The main forms of travel chosen are traveling with family, group of friends and tour company. Quite a few people choose to travel alone. The number of visitors going with the company is not high. Compared to last September’s survey, the ranking of travel trends has not changed. Sea resort tourism, cuisine, nature, and mountain resort are still ranked the highest. Trends like spiritual tourism, shopping or sports are at the bottom. Since the appearance of the Covid-19 translation, the trend to book online has also increased dramatically. Survey from TAB showed that 47.1% of tourists in Ho Chi Minh City use online booking services. The number of people booked directly or through a major travel agency was 29.1% and 17.7%, respectively. The survey was coordinated by TAB with a number of units from March 15 to 29 with 3,755 responses. Through this survey, the TAB shows the travel needs and trends of each Covid-19 tourist group.
