It is in accordance with the good memories of childhood that Yu Fei plunged into the store after graduating from high school and became an ordinary salesperson. Every morning, she couldn’t get up at 5:30, just to arrive at work an hour and a half earlier, sorting out the shelves and going through the “checking books” before other colleagues went to work. “As a party member, I should take more responsibility and do more than other colleagues.”

Compared to the office, she is more willing to stay at the counter, chat with customers, and carefully study the products and displays. For her, this is “the gold content of a salesperson”.

Thinking more and doing more, it also made Yu Fei “sticky” a large part of the customer group. Especially at the moment, there are many online orders, and Yu Fei has to make more than 900 copies a day when he is busy. After the purchase is completed and the customer confirms, she will also call to remind the customer: After the receipt is displayed, a message will be sent to confirm that it is correct. “After this set of procedures, the heart is settled.”

Yu Fei used to have dozens of small books, carefully recording the tastes and preferences of different old customers, and now they have turned into hundreds of mobile memos. Over the years, it even turned into a “habit” and imprinted it in my mind. “She’s not here? I’ll buy it another day.” Many customers recognized Yu Fei. The trust and adhesion built between customers and salespersons are even more precious in the current commercial society.

No matter what job innovation is incumbent on

In the lobby on the first floor of the store, the best-positioned container is reserved for its own brand. For example: “One Box of Shanghai” which focuses on souvenirs, and “Yishi Yipin” for roasted seeds and nuts. Responsible for the sales of these two counters, what Yu Fei more often does now is to introduce new products and develop new products based on sales, and also recommend and match companion gift boxes for customers traveling north and south. Compared with the past, these two tasks are more testing the ability of innovation. “Innovation is particularly important for a 67-year-old company. As a party member and a model worker, I have no shirk.”

Like all time-honored stores, in recent years, with the rise of more and more commercial complexes, coupled with the e-commerce diversion of a large number of customers, long queues have become rare. Failure to take the initiative to innovate and attack is tantamount to “handing over” the consumer market. Since 2015, the store has initiated transformation and upgrading, and created three private brands and counters. Yu Fei is responsible for the operation of two of the private brand counters. Also in the same year, a model worker studio with Yu Fei as the leader was established in the store. Everyone brainstormed and combined the needs of users to make innovations. New products such as Gan Liren and Eight Immortals Fruit came into being.

Butterfly Crisp, originally a pastry snack with the characteristics of old Shanghai, has a short shelf life, is inconvenient to carry, and is fragile, so it does not stand out in the original sales. Yu Fei actively communicated with the R&D team of his own brand, and took the initiative to cater to consumers’ taste changes. The ingredients were improved, and the taste was crispy and fragrant but sweet and not greasy. At the same time, a single small butterfly pastry is packaged with an independent seal, which is cleaner and more convenient to carry. The shelf life has also been extended from 7 days to 3 months.

As soon as the new model went on the market, it was loved by consumers. It quickly became the “sales king” of its own brand, and was even recommended by the municipal consumer protection committee as a special souvenir in Shanghai.

The “story-telling” butterfly pastry was also “coming to the OTC” not long ago, and it has spawned a “eye-catching” Shanghai cultural and creative gift. The traditional tin box, the packaging with the map of Shanghai cultural tourist attractions, the QR code to listen to the Shanghai story, and the taste is full of 256 layers of crisp. “New form and taste”, this time, the long line came back.
