Mitsubishi Attrage is from a ‘sluggish’ car model in February, suddenly reaching ‘huge’ sales. Meanwhile, Vinfast LuxA2.0 still showed stable sales for the second time in the top 5 best-selling sedans of the month.

March 2021 saw a staggering recovery in the domestic auto market after the end of the Lunar New Year and the Covid-19 epidemic had stabilized.

According to the sales report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the sales volume of the whole market reached 30,935 vehicles, including 21,089 passenger cars; 9,227 commercial vehicles and 619 specialized vehicles. Passenger car sales increased 119%; commercial vehicle by 145% and special use vehicle by 246% over the previous month.

The sedan segment also experienced significant growth when it sold 7,654 units in March, up 131% from the previous month (with 3,310 units), accounting for 36.3% of total sales of passenger cars. This is still the segment that accounts for the largest share of the domestic car market.

In the top selling sedans in March 2021, Hyundai Accent still shows great performance as this is the third consecutive month this model has been at the top.

Second place was mixed as Toyota Vios took the lead and pushed Honda City down to third place. Perhaps the most surprising is the B-class sedan Mitsubishi Attrage when it first achieved sales of over 1,000 units / month and ranked fourth.

The last position in the top 5 is the name “cult” Vinfast LuxA2.0. This is also the only model in the E-class sedan segment in the top. Meanwhile, C and D sedans have no representation.

Here are the top 5 best-selling sedans in March 2021:

1. Hyundai Accent: 2,094 units

With 2,094 cars sold in March, sales of Hyundai Accent increased nearly 130% over the previous month (with 915 units) and continues to top the segment.

Hyundai Accent shows sales superiority compared to competitors like Toyota Vios or Honda City.

Accent’s Q1 / 2021 sales total was also very impressive when this model reached 4,808 units, leading the domestic auto market, and outperformed two competitors in the same segment, Toyota Vios and Honda City. Accent is also the best-selling model of Hyundai Thanh Cong, with sales of all three Crossover models “in the same house” as SantaFe, Tucson and Kona combined.

Hyundai Accent is a model that TC Motor started to assemble domestically in April 2018. Accent 2021 has just been launched and opened for sale in early December 2020 with many improvements in design.

Currently, the Hyundai Accent 2021 is still distributed with 4 versions, using a 1.4-liter engine with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Accent versions of the price range from 426 to 542 million VND.

2. Toyota Vios: 1,971 units

Toyota’s “divine” car model has fallen dramatically and is accepted behind Honda City in February with only 554 units. However, March saw a return with nearly 2,000 cars sold, a nearly four-fold increase.

Toyota Vios increased 1 place to rank 2nd in the top selling sedans.

Total sales in the first quarter of 2021 of Toyota Vios reached 3,870 units, behind rival Hyundai Accent but still proved to be superior to Honda City. To have sales at such a “okay” level is due to the end of February, Toyota has launched a new upgraded version Vios 2021 with many improvements.

Currently, Vios has a total of 6 versions, an increase of 1 special version (Vios GR-S) compared to before. Vios 2021 is equipped with a 1.5L engine, 5-speed manual transmission or automatic stepless. Vios’s selling price ranges from 478 to 638 million dong.

3. Honda City: 1,182 units

Honda City 2021 appeared at the beginning of 2021, causing this model to achieve very impressive sales in January with 1,579 units. In March 2021, this model also achieved a good sales of 1,182 units, nearly double that of February (613 units).

Honda City 2021 has a significant design change compared to the previous generation.

Honda City 2021 version is newly designed, using a 1.5L engine combined with a CVT automatic transmission. This model is introduced with 3 versions: G, L and RS with prices ranging from 529-599 million VND.

However, this sales is not enough for Honda City to keep the No. 2 position and have to accept being surpassed by Toyota Vios. Total sales in the first quarter of Honda City reached 3,374 units, also ranked third in the segment.

4. Mitsubishi Attrage: 1,002 units

If you look at the sales of 275 units in January and 59 units in February of Mitsubishi Attrage, it is hard to believe that this model could sell more than 1,000 units in March.

With 1,002 units sold in March, Attrage ranked 4th in the top-selling sedans of the month, and for the first time always entered the top 10 best-selling cars in the whole Vietnam market in March 2021.

Mitsubishi Attrage shocked when it first appeared in the top 10 selling cars in the whole market in March 2021.

The addition of New Attrage CVT Premium version at the end of February 2021 with stable supply along with a slight discount policy at dealers recently is considered the reason why this car “sublimation” in terms of price. sales in March.

Mitsubishi Attrage imported from Thailand, is distributed with 3 versions including 1 version of the manual and 2 versions of automatic transmission, all using 1.2 liter engine block. The selling price of this model ranges from 375-485 million VND.

5. Vinfast Lux A2.0

Vinfast’s “cult” sedan has the second month of 2021 being in the top 5 best-selling sedans. Sales of Lux A2.0 in March last reached 548 units, up nearly 60% from the previous month (343 units).

Lux A2.0 still shows stable sales over the past several months.

LUX A2.0 was launched by Vinfast and sold to the market in July 2019, there are 3 versions with 8 colors. All versions of the LUX A2.0 use a 2.0L turbo engine, producing a maximum capacity of 228 horsepower, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The selling price of Vinfast’s E-size sedan is ranging from 1,129 to 1,367 billion dong. This is also the only car not in the B-class sedan segment in the top 5.

In addition to the names in the top 5 best-selling sedans, sales of other sedans in March 2021 were as follows: KIA Soluto: 509 pcs; KIA Cerato: 469 units; Toyota Camry: 461 units; Mazda 3 sedan: 431 units; Mazda2 sedan: 303 units; Honda Civic: 200 pcs; Hyundai Elantra: 179 units; …
