The house is decorated with thousands of rolls of wool and lovely teddy bears, which Mr. Nghia spent more than 3 years perfecting based on his wife’s hobbies and passions.
At 2pm, Ms. Phung Le Lan Thanh (35 years old) temporarily put aside her work of knitting and crocheting teddy bears to open the door to welcome reporters Zing.

Her family’s house impresses right from the door by the gentle rose scent and gorgeous colors looking through the glass window. This nest is a gift that Mr. Huynh Trong Nghia – Thanh’s husband – spent a very long time building for his wife. Build a house according to your wife’s passion Since the age of 8, Ms. Thanh has been interested in wool and knitting. After many years of collecting, she has owned thousands of woolen rolls of all colors and materials. Ms. Thanh’s work also involves rolls of wool. She spends every day crocheting teddy bears, clothes or pictures. Her handmade products are often ordered by customers in advance, many times even sent abroad. Thousands of woolen rolls are decorated on the first floor of the house. 10 years of dating, 8 years of marriage, Mr. Nghia understands his wife’s passion. It was his wife’s love of wool that inspired Mr. Nghia to design a house for the couple. In August 2017, Mr. Nghia started calling workers to build the rough part of the house, including 1 ground floor, 1 mezzanine and 2 floors. At that time, the couple planned to complete the work in just over a year, the two would give birth to a baby and take the child home. “But the baby is now more than 1 year old, so we can live here,” Thanh said. White painted wooden shelves and cabinets highlight the vibrant colors of the wool rolls. The construction of the house lasted mainly because Mr. Nghia was careful and wanted to comply with his wife’s wishes. He first asked his wife what size furniture she wanted, then designed everything to fit into the overall space. Every decorative detail is rounded or molded, only Nghia made as meticulous as possible. Especially the chair that Ms. Thanh sits crocheting every day, Mr. Nghia studies carefully to match the height and recline of his wife. “My husband and I have experienced exactly 3 Tet holidays from the day we bought the land, and we didn’t have a house until October 2020. My friends tease me all the time ‘Oh Thanh, when will the house be finished’, ‘Can you come and play yet’ makes me laugh too. “Many people came to visit, complimented and asked about the architect’s design. I said that the whole house was conceived by Mr. Nghia himself, monitored the construction process, even… manually built the interior. But no one else. believe”, Ms. Thanh laughed when recounting. You pay attention to every little detail in the house. “I do everything for my wife” Not studying or working in the construction industry, but Mr. Nghia has an aesthetic taste and meticulous calculation. Talk to Zing Mr. Nghia said the house met about 80% of expectations. At first, he sketched the idea himself, then hired an architect to redraw it into a construction drawing. “There are specialized technical regulations that I couldn’t calculate at first, so I had to change later. If I want to do 100% of what I want, I don’t have money to do it anymore,” Mr. Nghia confided. The house took 3 years and 2 months to build and decorate. The biggest difficulty in the process of building a house is that the machining teams cannot make products according to his design. Some workers still quietly left, leaving many unfinished items. “My calculations are both from the couple’s hobbies and intentions. But the crews are only used to making things in an industrial style, then I have to fix a lot. But no matter how difficult it is, I still try to do it without changing the original intention,” Nghia said. Ms. Thanh has been passionate about wool and made crafts from wool since she was very young. The amount of money to build the rough part of the house is 800 million VND, the interior finishing is another 300 million VND. He thinks this cost is relatively economical. “Whoever comes to visit also says that making furniture will cost billions of dong, because this type of house is usually only available in villas. But my house only costs more than 300 million because most of it is for hire or self-build. All use plywood, cheap wood to close and paint white. Light colors both make the house brighter, highlight the wool rolls and hide the defects of the wood.” In the mezzanine and 2nd floor of the house, Mr. Nghia spends a lot of lovely dolls and a small room for his wife to organize workshops. In terms of costs, Mr. Nghia and Mrs. Thanh spent more than 1.1 billion VND to build their own house. However, that is not the biggest loss, because during the construction of the house, Ms. Thanh was pregnant and Mr. Nghia lost his job, both could not have a good source of income as before for 2 years. “I took time off to build a house too much, so I was fired. After quitting my job, every day I go from my parents’ house to my own house to pack my things, and only come home at 0:00 every day. My wife is very passionate, so I accept it. I do all of this for my wife,” Nghia smiled and said. Mr. Nghia and Ms. Thanh have had 10 years of dating and 8 years of marriage. Currently, they have 2 small children. When she moved to her new house, Ms. Thanh often invited her friends to play, drink tea and make crafts together. She also held a number of small workshops on the first floor to share her knitting experience. As for Mr. Nghia, he still struggles every day to find ways to decorate more furniture on the upper floors. He hopes to have enough money to fill the empty spaces with furniture, and his wife will have more room to display personal products.
