Technology giant Microsoft has made the decision to permanently stop Internet Explorer (IE), the web browser created 25 years ago.

Accordingly, a Microsoft spokesperson shared that software supplier Microsoft will end support for the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser next year, so it will stop providing it to individual users. The announcement comes in the context of IE increasingly losing ground to web browsers of rival companies such as Google’s Chrome or Apple’s Safari. According to analytics company Statscounter, as of April 2021, Google’s Chrome browser accounted for 65% of the market share, while Apple’s Safari ranked second with nearly 19% market share. Third and fourth are Firefox (3.59% market share) and Edge (3.39% market share), respectively. In the future, Microsoft wants to focus entirely on the Microsoft Edge browser. Microsoft said that from June 15, 2022, IE will stop working. Users can switch to using Microsoft Edge – another browser of the company – instead. Internet Explorer 11 will no longer be supported for Microsoft online services such as Office 365, OneDrive, Outlook,… on August 17th. Earlier, on March 17, 2015, Microsoft announced that Microsoft Edge would replace Internet Explorer as the default browser on their Windows 10 devices.
