Porsche Taycan is a battery-electric car of the German carmaker and certainly not the last model to use some new technology.
One of the new technologies from Porsche relates to the exterior paint. It sounds simple, but the reality is that the paint color of a car and the way it is painted are important for lasting quality.
Porsche cars are perfected on a new technological line Painting the body of a new Taycan on an assembly line at the Zuffenhausen factory previously required workers to move a tool weighing almost 7 with just the thumb 3,600 times per work day. It sounds strenuous, but Porsche has adopted a new system that eliminates that stress and improves quality by using patches to seal holes in the bodywork. These holes are not visible to the naked eye, but are intended to be filled by anticorrosive paints while in the paint shop. Once completed, these holes must be sealed so that they are watertight. If not, leaks will form. Taycan was not only the first Porsche to use this new patching method, but also the first car in the world to do so. The holes in the body of Taycan will be painted with new technology A total of 106 of the 143 holes in the Taycan body are now patch sealed in a very quick and automatic process. As noted previously, line workers do not have to push up to 3,600 plugs into holes in the body per shift. This new process is less complicated, faster and produces a higher quality product. The robot does this kind of work that looks like a barcode scanner. It only takes three minutes to do the whole job while 1 person needs more than seven minutes. Dirk Paffe, Paint Shop Process Planning Manager at Porsche: “The key feature of the solution is not just the seal itself, but also the automation of the process. We can glue patches in large quantities and at high cost, speed with absolute precision using a robot. ” New technology on Porsche Taycan will be spread on its models in the near future Does this mean that robots will soon take over all the work on the human assembly line at Porsche? Not at all, but making the worker’s life much easier and securing a better quality car.
