Thousand Island Lake is located in Chun’an County, the western suburb of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is the largest artificial lake in China formed in 1959. It is also known as Xin’anjiang Reservoir. Its clear waters and wonderful scenery are named after thousands of green islands. “The best beautiful water in the world” and “the middle of a thousand island clear water paintings”. When Mr. Guo Moruo and his wife accompanied the Nepalese Speaker of Parliament to visit Qiandao Lake, Shi Xing sent a letter chanting “Three thousand West Sons, the mountains have fallen high.” The peaks and ridges form islands, and the flat ground rolls the waves. There are many days of electricity, and there is no drought and flood in Zewei. Rejuvenation depends on self-reliance, and irrigation and drainage benefit the rural suburbs.” A poem to express praise for its beautiful and magnificent scenery.
Speaking of the most distinctive scenery in Qiandao Lake, there is nothing more than a thousand dotted and verdant islands. Meifeng Island, as the first-level scenic spot of Qiandao Lake, is the highest among all the islands in the lake, and it is also the best place to climb the scenic lake to see the lake. As the saying goes, “You can travel three thousand islands in the lake, and it will be in vain not to reach Meifeng.” Meifeng Island is named because the five hills that make up the island resemble plum blossoms. The ecological environment on the island is excellent, and the scenery is changeable in the four seasons. The natural and cultural landscapes are integrated, and you can see nearly one-third of the islands in the lake from a high perspective. It can be described as an overview of the beauty of the thousand islands. Of course, there is another way of saying that it is called Meifeng. It is said that the Willow-leaves Chimonanthus was all over the island in the past. Today’s Meifeng Island can be regarded as a veritable plum-appreciating resort in Qiandao Lake. Whenever everything is dying in the severe winter, thousands of plum blossoms on the island are in full bloom, and the fragrance is floating, which is beautiful and poetic. In the southeast lake area of Qiandao Lake, there is also a small island full of Zen flavor. According to legend, the story of “three monks without water to eat” happened there. This small island is Mishan Island, known as the only “Xianshan Mountain in the Lake” in Qiandao Lake. Since ancient times, Mishan has been a Buddhist resort, with curvy Sanskrit sounds and flourishing incense. The reason why it is called “Honey Mountain”, according to the “Chun’an County Chronicles” of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty: “There is honey in the water and empty Shihu”, hence the name. Climbing up the Mishan Ancient Road paved with bluestone slabs, you can deeply feel the tranquility and Zen of the “Bihu Qingshan Ancient Tibetan Temple”. There is a majestic, secluded and solemn Mishan Temple, one of the “famous places in West Zhejiang” in ancient times. There is a sweet water quality and the “first spring in the southeast” which is endless in all seasons. There is also a Mishan spring that commemorates Mr. Guo Moruo’s presence. The poetry pavilion built to recite poems and other historical sites. Osmanthus Island is about two kilometers away from Mishan Island. It is named after the wild osmanthus everywhere on the island. It is also called Longyang Mountain because of its location as the legendary dragon girl herding sheep. It is the earliest tourist attraction developed in the Qiandao Lake Scenic Area, and it is mainly composed of three natural scenic areas: Pine Forest, Osmanthus and Shiyan. Among them, the most eye-catching is undoubtedly the wild osmanthus trees escaping from the jagged rocks, giving people a sense of beauty of “cinnamon sticks with special affection.” Most of them are old and diverse in variety. Every late autumn, wild osmanthus on the island is blooming, sweet and very charming. Of course, the natural rockscape on the island is also a major feature. Osmanthus osmanthus island is a calcareous karst landform. In the process of natural evolution, it has created wonderful landscapes such as oolong water, rhinos roaring in the sky, and clear waves reflecting the moon. While appreciating the beautiful scenery, don’t forget to express the wonderful workmanship of nature. In addition, there are five dragon islands with rich ruins, lock islands shaped like giant locks, strange stone islands lined with strange rocks, Yunmeng Islands and Shenlong islands filled with monkeys and snakes, etc., which can be described as thousands of islands. If you have a chance to go, don’t miss it.
