Spending 10,000 USD to buy all the belongings of the deceased female teacher, Alex Archbold was surprised to learn that it was a treasure with many expensive and branded antiques.
Antiques collector Alex Archbold met Bette-Joan Rac – a retired piano teacher – a few years ago when he bought her old blue Cadillac. The two of you still keep in touch.
According to the CBC On November 18, 2020, Rac died at the age of 76 after a brief illness. She has no children, so she has no heir. Wishing to own the grand piano that Rac used to teach while alive, Archbold paid $ 10,000 to buy all of her property. Wanting to own a grand piano, Archbold spent 10,000 USD to buy off all of Rac’s belongings. “I just thought it would be possible to break even, if I could sell the piano and find something cool. But I was shocked when I realized she was a millionaire.” Hidden in the mess of the house is a treasure larger than what the antiques hunter could have imagined. Archbold recalls the impression of the late female teacher as someone who often wore colorful, interesting clothing layers, wearing various jewels such as rings, necklaces and bows in her hair. “She’s a lovely lady and definitely stands out in a crowd,” Archbold said. Rac loves traveling and shopping and has amassed collections of designer jewelry and clothing, artwork, furniture and antiques. Among the belongings left by Mrs. Rac, there are many expensive ones. Archbold found a large silver bar, weighing 100 ounces (more than 2.8 kg), that had fallen from a pile of old magazines while cleaning up trash. It was also when he gradually discovered more and more valuable objects in the house. Mrs. Rac’s wardrobe is filled with clothes and skirts from high-end brands, with designer items dating back decades. Archbold also set up a vlog channel to share his treasure discovery journey. Many people in different countries participated in the auction of items in the house. The first auction, hosted online by Edmonton’s Kastner Auctions, included high-quality Rac jewels that earned the collector more than $ 250,000. Auctions for furniture, home appliances and art, heirlooms and jewelry continued to follow. Rac’s huge brand-name wardrobe is sold to local vintage dealers. Archbold estimated that Rac’s total furniture could be worth about $ 400,000. He plans to take advantage of the unexpected chance to fulfill his dream of opening a coffee shop next to his antique store. The collector also said Rac’s grand piano will be on display for those who love and want to play the piano. “Her guitar that we are holding will be placed in a cafe so that her students or other musicians can come and play.” That is also how Archbold pays tribute to the deceased teacher. “We are all very grateful to Mrs. Rac for her legacy that has been passed down through us and I will try to do great things with it.”
