The world famous Palace of Versailles is where many French kings and royalty lived. Built in 1661 during the reign of King Louis XIII, the completion cost of this 2,300-room palace is around $200-300 billion.

Located about 20 km west of Paris, France, the Palace of Versailles is world famous for its massive and splendid design. King Louis XIII chose architect Louis Le Vau, decorator Charles Lebrun and landscape designer André Le Nôtre to be in charge of building the palace. To complete the work, King Louis XIII mobilized 36,000 workers to work. 6,000 horses were used to transport construction materials from all over France to the construction site of the Palace of Versailles. The finest and most unique materials were used to construct the Palace of Versailles. In 1682, the lavish, splendid palace of Versailles was completed. Construction costs were at least 100,000,000 livre (the currency in circulation in France at that time). According to calculations by experts, this amount converted at the current exchange rate is about 200-300 billion USD. With such a large amount of money, the Palace of Versailles overwhelmed many people with 2,300 rooms, 2,513 windows, 67 stairs and 483 mirrors. In particular, the mirror hall (also known as the “Grand Gallery”) is one of the most famous rooms in the Palace of Versailles when there are 17 giant mirror arches. Each mirror arch is assembled from 21 mirrors. In the grounds of the Palace of Versailles, there are 55 lakes and 600 fountains. Inside the Palace of Versailles there are about 6,000 paintings placed in more than 2,000 rooms. In 1979, UNESCO recognized the Palace of Versailles – the largest royal palace in the world as a World Cultural Heritage.
