Netizens scrutinized Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg wearing a bracelet designed to ward off shark attacks while surfing this week.
Photo: TMZ Specifically, images from TMZ show Mark Zuckerberg wearing a Sharkbanz ankle bracelet while surfing in Kauai, Hawaii. A spokesperson for Sharkbanz meanwhile confirmed Mark Zuckerberg purchased two Sharkbanz devices from the company’s website.

This current can make sharks more likely to sense electromagnetic fields as they search for prey. Sharkbanz’s products have actually been used by quite a few people, including former US President Barack Obama.

World-renowned diver Erich Ritter told DW in 2017 that he did not believe Sharkbanz was effective. “These bracelets only protect people psychologically,” he said. “They don’t work at all.” Chris Lowe, director of the Shark Lab at California State University, says he’s never seen any data that suggests people should use a product like Sharkbanz. Even so, Sharkbanz and many 3rd parties confirm that sharks tend to stay away from ringed dummies in tests.
