On the magnificent island of Siargao, there is a place known as ‘a tear in the ocean’. It is a clear blue lake located on the beautiful coast that people often call Magpupungko tidal lake. This place is like a precious and unique gem not only of Siargao but also of the whole world, where you can swim comfortably even at high tide.
Magpupungko is a white sand beach located at Barangay Consolacion at Pilar, Surigao del Norte. Similar to Barangay Catangnan’s Cloud 9 resort, Magpupungko beach faces east and towards the edge of the Pacific Ocean. But unlike Barangay Catangnan, Magpupungko has a natural swimming pool stretching hundreds of meters with rocky cliffs and numerous small niches, like a large turquoise jacuzzi in the middle of the ocean. During high tide, the surrounding natural rock formations keep the lake’s surface calm and safe. You can freely swim or snorkel to see the beautiful aquatic world. There is absolutely not a single piece of trash, but instead there are rows of seaweed like a velvety layer that lifts your heels. Visitors can also walk almost around the lake in the midst of immense waves. The limestone mountain part is where you can jump down or relax and enjoy the view. Magpupungko is not too crowded because it has not been affected by many tourist activities. You are not allowed to bring food, plastic bottles into the lake or smoke throughout the island in general as well as in Magpupungko in particular. Green coconut groves, bring freshly picked coconuts when you ask, with straws entirely made from coconut leaves or bamboo pipes. On the island, there are many homestays as well as hotels for you to stay; Local dishes are made with the warm hospitality of the local people for you to enjoy. Come to Siargao, visit Magpupungko to be forever impressed by an authentic infinity pool in the sun-drenched ocean of this warm tropical country.
