Pet photographer: The secret to taking pictures of animals is…
“Is the cat in the Forbidden City mature?” Everyone who saw the “Forbidden City Cat” photo for the first time would mutter inconceivably in their hearts.
Ruyi: “Did you know that the sheriff hid some dried fish privately and put them in…”

The strange friend Kecha in this issue is a professional pet photographer. At the beginning of 2017, Kecha’s “Forbidden City Cats” series photos taken in the Forbidden City became popular. Under Kecha’s lens, the cats paced gracefully inside the walls of the Vermilion Palace, as if they were the “prince guards” who were still silently guarding the Forbidden City a hundred years later.
Forbidden City Cat “Sheriff”
Kecha remembers the name of each of the Forbidden City cats. “Aobai” looks very imposing, and there is always a “steamed bun” next to him; “Little Cub” is fat, always lonely and elegant lying on the windowsill; “Saqima” and “Tazi Cake” always squatted in the cave, and casually stretched out their paws to grab the cat food that the tourists placed at the door.

At the end of 2016, Kecha joined an animal protection support team in Beijing. At the end of that year, the team organized a small event-“Cat’s New Year’s Eve Dinner”. Kecha and the team came to the Forbidden City to give cats food for the first time. Met the legendary “gong cat”.
Kecha was immediately fascinated by the cats in the Forbidden City. Kecha said that at that time, there were more than 1 million stray cats in Beijing. They were afraid of people and sensitive, so they ran away quickly when they saw people. But the cats in the palace are different. When they see people, they still wander leisurely, doing their own things, sleeping, and basking in the sun, and don’t take people seriously. Later, Kecha said that the staff of the Forbidden City treated these cats kindly, and usually bought them food at their own expense and took them for sterilization.
The palace cat “Little Flower” is particularly energetic.
At the beginning of 2017, Kecha took a camera to the Forbidden City to shoot cats for the first time. After squatting in the Treasure Hall for 3 hours, Kecha finally waited for the famous “little boy”. Kecha remembered that many people were holding mobile phones and cameras at the “little boy”, but it didn’t care and continued to sleep leisurely.

Kecha took a few photos and immediately posted on Weibo. Unexpectedly, this Weibo was liked by the Palace Museum. This is how Kecha and his “Forbidden City Cat” series began.
Before becoming a pet photographer, Kecha liked to take pictures, and small animals were loved by Kecha since he was a child. The encounter with the cat in the Forbidden City is the inevitability of Kecha’s long-standing relationship with small animals . Kecha remembers that when he was a child, he liked to go to the flower and bird market the most.
Kecha, who is a dog, likes dogs the most, but the courtyard house does not allow dogs but cats, so Kecha and cats cultivate a closer friendship. Kecha still remembers that when he was three or four years old, every time he visited his grandma’s house, he always walked with his cousin in the yard with his big tabby cat.
Probably because of this, In each of Kecha’s cats, one can imagine the loving gaze behind the camera. Someone always asks why the cat photographed by Kecha is so aura. Kecha feels that when shooting cats, one must first understand cats and understand each cat’s personality and temperament, starting with respect and understanding of their behavior.
“Papa” is the timidest cat in the Forbidden City.
In the supporting essay of the cat film, Kecha vividly described the characters of the kittens: the “little cubs” with larger characters are not afraid of people at all; but the “maomao” with more sensitive characters are not willing to be in crowded places. Waiting quietly, it likes to fly over the wall; “Cai Cai”, with blurred eyes and a faint smile at the corner of its mouth.
In order to better understand cats, Kecha even flew to Chengdu to listen to an expert from Italy on cat habits.
Kecha has seen many people take domestic cats outdoors for location shooting, and the cats crawl on the ground in horror; he has also seen photographers put cats in various clothes and forcibly pose for a cute effect in pursuit of cute effects. The cat in those photos curled up, with ears turned back, very frightened. Kecha said: “Even though this type of photo has good lighting, color and composition, it cannot be called a good cat portrait, and it can even be said to be a form of abuse.”
Kecha would rather spend more time waiting and taking pictures. He said: “Putting them in a comfortable and relaxed state is the biggest secret.”
“Cai Cai”
As the Forbidden City cat series become more and more famous, many people lie on Kecha’s Weibo “online cats” every day. Kecha said that everyone likes beautiful things. The stray cats are photographed just to record the beauty-the cats living in the Forbidden City are so sunny and lovely and pleasing to the eye. But as the number of shots increased, Kecha discovered that not all cats are as sunny as they appear in the photos.
Most stray cats are living in a dire situation. They are not well taken care of. They roam around the corners of the city, their hair has lost luster, and some are sick, and they have secretions in their eyes, nose, and mouth corners. Kecha remembered a photo of a white cat that moaned in pain while feeding it. The main reason for their wandering is the abandonment of the pet owners. .

Kecha said that the average life span of stray cats is only 3 to 5 years. therefore, When you see the splendid appearance of stray animals in a certain photo, it may be their last image. Kecha cherishes every opportunity to get along with stray cats. In Beihai Park, Xiangshan Botanical Garden, etc., as long as there are stray cats, Kecha will take pictures. With the help of photos, Kecha also wants to alert everyone: “Be kind to your pets, please don’t abandon them at will.”
Now, Kecha still goes to the Forbidden City to see the “gong cats” every time. The first cat he met in the Forbidden City, “White Spot”, has passed away, and the Yuanyuan “little boy” has also gone. Both “Bantou” and “Aobai” have been claimed. Each cat has its own destiny, and Kecha has its own destiny. At the moment, he wants to continue to shoot cats.
