A Scottish architecture firm has announced plans to build the world’s second tallest skyscraper in Russia.

However, the planned skyscraper will have the tallest used floor and gallery in the world at 590m. The current second tallest building is the Shanghai Tower at 632m and followed by the Shard in London at 310m. The Lakhta II Center will be located on the outskirts of St.Petersburg next to the old Lakhta Center – the tallest building in Europe with a height of 462m, and also the headquarters of the energy company Gazprom. The project’s design team leader is Tony Kettle – who designed the Lakhta Center. Lakhta II Center will have office space, accommodation and relaxation space on 150 floors. “The design is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional as it will significantly reduce wind forces acting on the structure, thereby reducing the size of the structural elements required in the building,” says Kettle. .” The old Lakhta Center was St.Petersburg’s first “super-tall” (greater than or equal to 300m) building. The 87-story tower rotates 90 degrees from foundation to top, like a winding needle. This makes it one of the finest examples of “twisted” skyscraper design.
