Ben Thanh is one of the oldest markets in HCMC. The new market at the current location started construction in 1912 and was completed by the end of March 1914. The market is located between the routes Phan Boi Chau – Phan Chu Trinh – Le Thanh Ton – Quach Thi Trang square. Photo: Duck.min. 
Initially, the location of the market was located on the banks of the Ben Nghe River, near Gia Dinh citadel (then called Quy or Bat Quai citadel). This place is named Ben Thanh, a place for visitors and soldiers to rest when entering the citadel. The old market is located next to it, so it is called Ben Thanh market. Binh Tay Market is located in District 6, in the Cho Lon area, so it is unofficially called Cho Lon. The market campus is 25,000 m2 wide, located between Thap Muoi – Le Tan Ke – Phan Van Khoe – Tran Binh routes. In 2017, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City recognized Binh Tay Market as a city-level architectural and artistic relic. The market was inaugurated in 1930. In November 2017, the city started a comprehensive upgrade and repair project. The entire architecture and lines when repaired are inspected by the Center for Conservation and Promotion of the Value of Historical and Cultural Relics, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City.
