Toyota Crown SUV seems to be developed from the Highlander in the US market. Despite bearing the Crown name, this model is not for Japanese customers.
The SUV showed up early in China during validation at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) – a procedure that every new model in China must go through. China Autohome page has posted some information and pictures of this Crown Kluger model.
The leaked specifications are not exactly identical to those of the Highlander. The car is 5,015 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,750 mm high. Compared with the Highlander sold in the US, the Crown Kluger is a bit longer and taller, the same width. The 2,850 mm wheelbase is also the common point of the two cars.
Toyota Crown Kluger
According to Autohome, the Toyota Crown Kluger will not be as powerful as the Highlander XSE. The Crown Kluger’s hybrid system uses a 2.5L petrol engine combined with an electric motor, for 189 horsepower, much lower than the 295 horsepower from the 3.5L V6 engine of the Highlander XSE. Even if compared to the Highlander XLE hybrid, the Crown Kluger is still 54 hp less.
There is no information about the interior design, however, it is likely that the car will be equipped with more advanced materials than the Highlander despite sharing the same design. This is supposed to match the name Crown which is a car symbol of luxury in Japan.
It is expected that the Crown Kluger model will be officially launched at the Shanghai Auto Show, which will take place from April 21 to 28.
