After arguing with his parents six years ago, Andres Canto used a hoe to create his own cave.
Andres Canto, 20, started digging underground shelters in Alicante six years ago with a pickaxe. This cave has a living room, a bedroom with heating, wifi and a music system.
Inside Canto’s cave. After being scolded and criticized by his parents, 14-year-old Canto started digging in his family’s garden after school. Finally, Canto invited a friend to use a pneumatic drill to create a 3m deep cave. Canto also reinforced the roof and walls of the cave with concrete and columns. The total cost of the project is only about 60 USD (nearly 1.4 million VND). “I have always loved building small huts. I live in the countryside and when I find discarded wood, I build a nice house,” Cantor said. 
Cantor in his cave. Cantor’s cave sometimes suffers from flooding and is often visited by insects, spiders and snails, but the amateur builder doesn’t mind. A social media post about the cave caught the attention of local officials. The authorities have sent inspectors to check, to ensure the safety of the cave. “My mother also came down and said it was smaller than the picture in the video,” Cantor said.
