Despite stopping in the top 21 of Miss Universe 2020, it is undeniable that Khanh Van has worked hard and left a mark in this beauty arena. No longer a meek girl in a flowing ao dai, the Vietnamese representative shows other sides of herself through attractive and personality costumes. Confiding to Zing, Tran Dat – the stylist accompanying Van – said: “Many people have said that Van is ‘light’. Therefore, I and the crew want everyone to see her daring angle.” 
Back on the day Van left for the US to compete, fans were surprised by her “makeover” as well as the meanings behind the costumes. “The white dress from designer Vo Thanh Can represents the friendship, the mission on the shoulders and the Fatherland in the heart,” emphasized the stylist. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the makeup team and stylist could not accompany her. Van went to the exam with 15 suitcases of clothes carefully prepared from the crew. When in transit, she changed her own clothes and adjusted her makeup. 
From the first days of appearing in the US, Khanh Van constantly wears cut-out dresses, splits showing a sharp and seductive image. Due to a long travel schedule and changing living habits, Van lost weight. Therefore, wearing looser clothing is inevitable. The green dress is inspired by the green hills of the highlands. She holds a woven bag made of sedge mat – a handicraft product of a Vietnamese craft village. 
The beauty of Ho Chi Minh City had an impressive “hello yard” on the day of meeting other Misses in the costume of designer Do Manh Cuong. This is the time when she shows the brave Khanh Van image, ready to integrate. 
The image of Thap Muoi water lily was cleverly sent by designer Tang Thanh Cong to the dress Khanh Van wore within the framework of the event. This is a flower familiar to Westerners, with a brilliant pink color. Its branches can be processed into many typical Vietnamese salad dishes. The dress model does not cause objection to the beauty when she has a delicate handling, covering the high slit when active. 
On the day of rehearsal for the semi-finals, Khanh Van chose a jumpsuit inspired by the streets of Ho Chi Minh City at night. The detail of the waistband is commented to help her flatter her figure and ensure it is in line with world fashion trends. 
According to Tran Dat, the fashion factor is also closely shown through the masks that are in sync with the clothes. This dress was created by designer Tang Thanh Cong, inspired by the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai, Hoang Su Phi or Sa Pa. Through this, the team wants to promote the beautiful image of the S-shaped country to friends around the world. 
The black rose dress brings a powerful and magical image to Khanh Van. 
In the last rehearsals before the semi-final night, the Vietnamese representative looked cool when wearing the design of young designer Quy Cao. Electric blue corresponds to the color of the Hard Rock Holly hotel – where the contest takes place. Modern shape, accents are reflective lines to help her stand out more. 
Khanh Van’s fashion journey cannot be complete without the presence of the traditional Ao Dai. On the background of silk Ao Dai, jewelry and bags have the lotus symbol clearly visible. This implicitly confirms the message “Van always remembers her homeland wherever she goes”. 
The occasion Khanh Van went when there was also a prominent event was the anti-LGBT day (May 17). Therefore, she brought a dress pattern that matched the theme. “The main part of the dress is made in purple. The color mixed between pink (representing women) and blue (representing men) has long been a symbol for LGBT, associated with the history of struggle of the LGBT community since late 19th century”, Tran Dat explained. 
Khanh Van’s journey at Miss Universe 2020 officially ended. With her charisma, confidence and meaningful things, she brought to the country of flowers enough to conquer the audience in her hometown. “Van has worked hard.
