However, in the past few years, many people from other regions have asked to buy and see the price, since then, her family has expanded the area to grow this specialty chili variety.

In order to have the quantity to be delivered to the wholesalers, she had to collect more chili from the villagers. Calculating, every day, her family also collects about 15kg of chili, but there are customers who order first, it takes 3-4 more days for her to collect again. “Last year, the price of chili fluctuated from 150,000 to 220,000 VND/kg depending on the quantity and time, but this year the chili crop failed so the price is higher. I buy wholesale from 5kg for 220,000 VND / kg, sometimes the retail price of fresh chili is up to 280,000-300,000 VND / kg, customers still compete to buy, “said Ms. Su. In addition to selling fresh chili, she also sells salted chili peppers for 100,000 VND/box (3-4 ounces). Calculating, in a good year, her family earns about 50-60 kg of chili/sticks/year, estimated to earn a few tens of millions of dollars per year. Ms. Hoa, a long-time regiment chili grower in Ka Lang (Muong Te), also said that growing this chili is like a seasonal job, adding a little more field to the field because the season only lasts about 5 months, from May to October, in which the most ripe time is around June to August.

However, this chili variety is quite fastidious, requiring strict growing conditions. The tree only produces spicy, delicious fruit when grown on rocky soil, cool climate. If the weather is too sunny, rainy or cold, the tree will easily die. Moreover, the irrigation also requires experienced growers, new plants to grow. Therefore, this chili variety is increasingly rare and expensive. “On average, each year, the regiment’s chili production of the whole commune is about 4-5 tons/crop. With an average selling price of 150,000 VND/kg, the commune’s estimated revenue from this chili plant is about 600-700 million VND/year,” he said. Chili plants have contributed to increase income for people in the commune. However, the specialty chili regiment provides to serve the needs of consumers in the whole province and neighboring provinces mainly, the consumption is still small and fragmented.
