Nearly 30 years ago, the ‘road of happiness’ with two straight, shady rows of king’s areca running through the green rice fields, has become a symbol of the countryside of Tan Tru, Long An.

Ong Do Nghi street attracts people with two straight and tall areca rows. “Green silk ribbon” of the West Ong Do Nghi route connecting the center of Tan Tru town with Duc Tan commune (Tan Tru district, Long An province) stands out in the middle of rice fields, green dragon fruits cut by two rows of tall areca kings. From a distance, the king areca row looks like a “green silk ribbon” winding, crossing the rice field. Just been concreted, Ong Do Nghi street is nestled between two straight rows of king’s areca, body as big as a hug. During 2km leading to Duc Tan commune, pedestrians are shaded by foliage of more than 300 areca stumps. The “nestled” road between the two rows of king areca trees is planted evenly. Local people said that the areca king on both sides of the road was planted nearly 30 years ago. Each areca tree root is planted a certain distance apart to form a natural fence. From the day areca was planted, people together take care of and protect to this day. Currently, the two rows of areca are soaring, the foliage is intertwined to create shade for the road. The winding road, running through the rice paddies, green dragon fruit gives people passing through here a sense of peace and tranquility. With the age of nearly 30 years old, the tall areca trees, the intertwined foliage cover the road. The people here said that the attraction and beauty of the road change in each time of the day, each season of the year. Early in the morning, the road attracts people to pass through by the scenery of two rows of areca hidden in the misty morning mist. At noon, the sun rises, the rows of areca cast long shadow into a strip of dark blue curling on the green, eye-catching green surface. In the afternoon, many people love the view of sunset through the king’s areca leaves. The road becomes pride, the symbol of Tan Tru town. Visitors on the road before and after Tet will have the feeling of going through the golden strip with the aroma of ripe rice fields. On other occasions of the year, a road like “green silk ribbon” curves across the green rice fields, and the dragon fruit garden is in bloom with yellow or red flowers in color of ripe fruit. “Path to happiness” In recent times, the areca king street has become famous in the distance, attracting tourists by its poetic beauty. From the very beginning of the street, visitors were attracted by the signboard reading “The way to happiness”. From a distance, the road is like a “green silk ribbon” squeezing through the rice fields, green dragon fruit. Locals say, the road is as meaningful to them as the name itself is. On the way home, Mr. Nam (45 years old, living in Duc Tan commune) said: “I am a resident here, walking on this road every day, but I still find it very beautiful. The feeling of walking under the king’s areca leaf, gliding through the straight areca trunks on the two sides of the road is very fond ”. According to Mr. Nam, the local people are “very excited” when the road is concreted clean and has a beautiful landscape. This place becomes a place to rest, stay cool, avoid the sun after every hour of working tired fields for people. To have this clean, beautiful, poetic road, the local people together protect and take care of the king’s areca row. “In the afternoon, surrounding people also come here to exercise. Some go for a run, others ride a bike, go for a cool walk to enjoy the fresh air ”, Mr. Nam shared. The green road is also chosen by many young people, couples choose to be a place of love, wedding photography. At weekends, this place also attracts many tourists to admire the scenery, experience the fresh air, check-in the most unique street in the West. Currently, local people put decorative lights along the road. Every day, people often come here to exercise, take a walk, breathe fresh air. Mr. Long, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City to “see” the happy road, shared: “The road is very beautiful. People say that the king areca row has been planted since 1992. If that is true, it is not easy to have 2 rows of beautiful areca like this “. “Because, more than a decade ago, the king’s areca was very valuable, there was even a fever about this ornamental plant. People around the road must be diligent, unanimous in protection and care to have this intact and beautiful areca goods, ”Mr. Long said. The road becomes an attractive destination for nature lovers. On weekends, young people often come here to “live virtual”. The path of happiness is also the place where many couples are in love.
