Dongting Dongshan, commonly known as Dongshan, is located in Wuzhong District, Suzhou. It is a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides in the Taihu Lake and is an important part of the Taihu Lake Scenic Area.
As early as the Song Dynasty, it was still a lake island. More than 100 years ago, the lake island was connected to the land to form a peninsula. Dongshan Island is not only beautiful in scenery, but also has a profound cultural heritage. In history, there are many emperors, generals, literati and inkmen who have visited here. Many popular poems.

If you visit Dongshan in Suzhou, there are two scenic spots that can be said to be a must. Not only can you appreciate the scenery of Taihu Lake, you can also feel the profound cultural heritage here, namely Qiyuan and Dongshan Carved Flower Building. 1. Suzhou Gardens: Kai Garden Kai Garden is located on the shore of Taihu Lake in Dongshan. It is located behind the mountain and the lake. It is the only classical garden among the many Suzhou gardens that is surrounded by mountains and water. However, its reputation is not great, perhaps because of its remoteness. It takes nearly an hour from Suzhou city to here. Qi Yuan was originally a private garden, and its owner was Xi Qisun, a native of Dongshan, who bought the land in the 1930s and spent 100,000 silver taels to build this private garden in 3 years, so Qi Yuan is also called Xi’s Garden. The reason why this private garden was built at that time was to commemorate the ancestors who greeted Emperor Kangxi here, and now the imperial dock can be seen near the lake in this garden, that is, the Emperor Kangxi who greeted him here. It has to be said that the site selection of Qiyuan is very good. It is built on the hillside and lives by the water. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and the scenery is self-evident. The interior of the garden is also not to be underestimated. It is not only the small and exquisite gardens of Suzhou, but also the majestic grandeur of mountain peaks and lakes. The pavilions, terraces and pavilions are intertwined with the landscape, which is refreshing. In my opinion, Qiyuan consists of four parts, namely the courtyard, the garden, the small courtyard of Liu Yi and the vast expanse of Taihu Lake. In the garden, the scenery is changed step by step, as if passing through. Compared to other classical gardens, I prefer Qiyuan. One is that there are few people here and it is quiet, and the other is the small scenery here. The scenery is like thoughts, which makes people feel deeply. 2. Dongshan Carved Flower Building Dongshan Diaohualou is located in Dongshan Town, about 2.5 kilometers away from Qiyuan. There are three existing carved buildings in Jiangsu, one of which is the Dongshan Carved Building, the other two are the Taizhou Port Carved Building and the Xishan Carved Building. It ranks first among the three carved buildings and is one of the representatives of architectural sculptures in Wuzhong District, Suzhou. It is enough to show its high status. Dongshan Carved Building was built in 1922 and has a history of nearly a hundred years. It is reported that more than 250 craftsmen were used to build this carved building, which lasted three years and cost 3741 taels of gold, which shows its high cost. From the gatehouse at the entrance of the carved building, you can see rich and delicate carved flowers. The gatehouse is just like the face of the owner, and naturally incorporates many carvings, such as plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, peonies, bergamot, auspicious clouds and the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” Allusions and so on. After stepping through the gate tower, I was instantly attracted and shocked by the sight in front of me. At this moment, I finally understand why it is called the carved building. The beams, trusses, columns and eaves of the entire pavilion are covered with carvings, including wood carvings, stone carvings, and bricks. The sculptures and carvings are very rich and dazzling. I remember that there is a sentence describing the Dongshan Carved Flower Building: “The building is carved everywhere, and the carving is perfect everywhere.” You can only know the true meaning of this sentence when you see it with your own eyes. The Dongshan Carved Flower Building is indeed beautiful. The beauty lies in the carving and the beauty. The story told. I don’t know. Have you ever visited or heard of these two attractions when you visited Dongshan in Suzhou? What is your impression of the scenery here? If you haven’t been there yet, will you check in if you have a chance? Welcome to leave comments.
