Former midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has bluntly criticized Timo Werner, describing his style of play as a blind horse because he only knows how to run.
Timo Werner.
“If it were me, I would always use Ziyech because he is the best player. He can either run into the lane or do flip flops. Mount can do the same job and Giroud needs something. there.
Werner is super fast and what can work in an away game when you’re under pressure. But Werner is like a blind horse, just keeping his head down and running. He proved it in Germany.
Mount is a great player, and I think he needs a step forward, similar to Calvin Stengs (22-year-old Dutch striker playing for AZ Alkmaar), “Van der Vaart said.
Werner joined Chelsea last summer from RB Leipzig. Despite the great expectations, the German striker only scored 10 goals and 11 assists after 41 appearances in all competitions.
True to Van der Vaart’s words, Werner’s strength lies in speed, but the striker’s ability to finish is super bad, often missing Chelsea’s delicious opportunities. Werner’s confidence has since declined significantly since then, leaving him on the bench for many games by coach Thomas Tuchel.
Contrary to Werner, Mount is more and more rocky and is currently Chelsea’s most important player. If not improving soon, Werner is likely to be completely knocked out of the main Chelsea squad instead of nowadays.
