The French architectural firm designed the house to resemble a tree and created a ‘result’ that surprised everyone.
To celebrate the architecture of the Boulogne-Billancourt commune (France), the Paris-based architecture firm Jakob + MacFarlane designed La Maison Connectée (The Connected House) – a contemporary house inspired by a tree. Designed with a double facade, this multi-faceted sculptural house is a continuation of the experimental housing in Boulogne-Billancourt. La Maison Connectee is designed to reduce energy use and is equipped with a smart home automation system. The underground water system in the house can provide energy for heating and electricity.

The architects have created a house that combines a biomeasurement system, energy efficiency and modern design. Completed in 2017, this 750 square meter home has 3 floors, a basement and a terrace. The terrace and outdoor balcony are inserted between the two facades. Metal façades provide privacy and shading to all glazed rooms. The architects explained: “The main spaces of the house spread like successive layers of a tree, from the indoor space to the front of the house. The house is designed as a three-dimensional matrix, layer after layer.” To preserve the neighborhood’s history, the architects retained the existing black metal fence and planted shrubs and large trees around the site. This house project has been approved by both the Architect of the French Building and APP – the organization that protects the Parc des Princes district.
