Because of the land dispute, Fawzi built the ultra-thin house to block the sea view and lower the price of his brother’s real estate.
Located next to the iconic lighthouse of Beirut (Lebanon), the ultra-slim house “The Grudge” is like a wall with the widest part measuring about 4 meters and the narrowest part measuring 60 centimeters. Insider .

Urban planner and architect Sandra Rishani says the house is among the thinnest in the world and was built in 1954. However, it was erected not because of a shortage of land but because of a family feud. , as the name suggests. In the 1950s, two brothers Salah and Fawzi Itani inherited from their father two plots of equal area, located adjacent to each other. However, a passing road took away most of his brother Fawzi’s land. The Grudge – the ultra-thin house in Lebanon. Photo: Lidija Liegis. Fawzi negotiated with his brother Salah to be able to expand and take advantage of the remaining land. However, the two failed to reach an agreement. Not long after, the price of Salah’s land skyrocketed. Frustrated with his brother’s land bargain, Fawzi built a four-story house on what was left of his narrow plot of land. The goal is to obscure the view of the sea, reducing Salah’s house prices. Despite the small area, Fawzi’s house still has a full bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and many windows facing the sea. Over the years, the “hate” house has changed hands several times and become one of Beirut’s most overvalued properties. In recent years, the house has been uninhabited and the current owner is unknown. Despite Lebanese law banning ultra-thin houses, The Grudge still exists and is considered a unique architectural feature, attracting tourists in the capital Beirut.
